My family went here a few months ago. We got the peking duck and jellyfish; at least those were the standouts several months later. We haven't been to SF nor Chinatown before, but we picked this place. The waiters were incredibly nice, telling us about various dishes etc. The food came out promptly (though we ordered for about 8 people). I enjoyed it enough to always want to write them a review, I finally got around to doing it. It's a recommend from me.
We so enjoyed our meal here on our last night in San Fransisco. The service was excellent, the host and wait staff were very attentive, despite the restaurant being full. They had a special event that night with a large group in the back. Our food was delicious, the smiles plentiful. Thank you all to the staff for a memorable meal and experience. We were in CA for a wedding. My family hailed from Canada, Australia and Thailand. We agreed that this was a highlight of our trip. I would highly recommend this restaurant if in the area.
This place is so good! I love the beef chow fun. They are closed on Tuesdays but other days I love coming with family. It can be a bit more expensive but you are paying for clean and safe seating. Area outside can get kinda sketchy at night but great parking across the street in the garage. Definitely give this place in China town a try!
Went last minute. There were 5 of us. We had Sweet and sour pork, chicken/seafood fried right, Kung pow chicken, Spare ribs, squid, beef broccoli, chow men, and other stuff. We shared it and the food was fantastic. Will go again.
Absolutely the best chicken corn soup I have had in two decades. Including Hakka in Toronto, Riyadh, Delhi…. This was as good if not better. Missing the chilli vinegar tho!
Some of my favorites were the clams w/black bean sauce, cubes with assorted mushrooms in house sauce, glazed walnut prawns, garlic Chinese broccoli (gai lan), garlic pea shoots, and some others but I don’t know what they are called since my brother in law ordered. Second time here and we enjoyed eating here last time too!
The Garden Restaurant has become one of my favorite restaurants. It has been newly remodeled after serving authentic Chinese food in in San Francisco Chinatown for decades. The food is great, and price very reasonable. It has a semi-private room that easily sits 50 people and 2-3 smaller private rooms downstairs that is perfect for private parties. Highly recommend!
Came in for lunch and had a peaceful experience. The food was very tasteful and the atmosphere was serene. I loved eating here! Will definitely come again!
We almost didn't eat here cuz of the reviews talking about tipping but we're good tippers anyway so we went ahead and tried it. I'm so glad we did! The service was so friendly, the food was amazing and good portions. She gave us to-go boxes based on our meals which was very efficient and not something I've seen in other places. There was no tip added to our ticket, we were able to choose the tip with no comment from our server. The complementary tea was boiling hot and delicious as well. It is a little pricey but worth it in my opinion and we will go back next time we're in town.
The food is good taste. Especially mix mushrooms with beef , walnut prawns, steamed chicken all are excellent 😋 love this place 👌 🙌 👌 👌
Met with an old friend and colleague here. He knows Chinatown well. We had the best lunch with impeccable service. I recommend the short ribs, the spicy chicken 🔥, the sweet red pork, the pan fried noodles w beef + tomato and the mabo tofu. Nice hot tea and rice. Great environment for a long lunch and a nice chat.
Omg! SO FRESH!!! SO GOOD!!! made with care by lovely family. Oh so lucky to find this gem! Happy new year!
Basically had a transcendental experience here. Best part of my trip! They don't have Chinese food like this in the Netherlands. Also very nice waiting staff, great service, small waiting times, excellent atmosphere. Highly recommended!!
Great place to enjoy authentic chinese foods. There are many different chinese dishes that you can try, I love their salt and pepper tofu, saltyfish fried rice. Friendly staff and good environment.
Wonderful restaurant that took me back to my childhood. Great BBQ pork and Orange chicken. Hot tea. The crab rangoon were substantial and had real crab. Service was fast and friendly, and many locals came in to get food and chat with the staff, lending to the wonderful atmosphere.
Got a takeout here, the spicy chicken. It was the best chicken I have eaten in YEARS. Soft, moist, just perfect. I ate the whole thing. Interior looked nice (though a tad chilly), and service was fast and friendly. Price was good, too!
Our first visit here and i would recommend it as a definite place to visit . The service is quick but not rushed. The food delicious 😋 (Sizzling Black bean chicken is amazing) Pricing is moderate, that said the portions are large enough to share . 5⭐️
I am from Canton and I approve this! The food are best in SF in my ranking, and I will for sure come back! The Cantonese food is authentic and yummy. Love this place
Authentic southern Chinese Food. The chef prepared 西红柿鸡蛋 for us. Very friendly staff and quick service. They also have a clean restroom, too.
The lunch meal is so sumptuous. I ordered mixed vegetables with Shrimp. Highly recommended

We visited San Francisco a few months ago and saw this place and we decided to stop and take a look. A gentleman was walking inside and said “just go in, you won’t regret it. It’s the best, we come here all the time.” For some reason we kept walking. We visited San Francisco again and decided we would not miss the opportunity. The food was GREAT! My only regret is that we didn’t have time to go back to try more food. The service was awesome, loved the place. My girls, three and seven, loved the food as well. Will go back in the future for sure!
Large group, fasting so couldnt eat meat. Service very understanding and helpful. Was starving. Was hungry. Food came. Was beautiful. In each particular molecule of each dish I could taste passion and expertise, dedication and years of refinement. Servers very nice, atmosphere very nice, experience was revolutionary and changed my life. Would highly recommend tofu. The tofu was springy like a rabbit, as flowing as a river, and as silky as the Silk Road. The river of Acheron made me forget the hunger and starvation that panged within my stomach just moments before. Fried rice was beautiful, well seasoned and egg made to perfection. Yummy 67/10.
just had a 1 person dinner combo and it was spot on what I was looking for. I had the sweet and sour chicken w/ egg fried rice, combo comes w/ 1 egg roll and small potion of soup of the day which today was my favorite soup ever egg flower soup! all for $20 bucks you better believe I'm coming back.

It was quite a surprise to me how good this place was. It's cleaner and calmer than a lot of Chinese restaurants around Chinatown in the same price range. The quality and flavor of the food here is excellent. The price is very reasonable, except perhaps the $20 lobster noodles. But that $20 was worth it. It was the best prepared lobster in a noodle that I've ever had. The beef in their tomato was very tender and flavorful, braised tofu was delicious. The staff is friendly and attentive. A real wonderful combination of quality, flavor, price and service.
I went here for dinner after a long conference day. I feel like there is a mixture of American Chinese and more authentic Chinese. But mine was well cooked and flavorful
Nice location, good atmosphere. The food was above average. The plates were small but not too pricy. We ordered Pecking duck and BbQ pork, and they were good. The duck was crispy and juicy.
Came here with 2 of us, would have been better with a group to share more dishes. Waited about 10 minutes on a busy Saturday night after the Women's march. Food was really good. Loud atmosphere. Would be a good place for a casual dinner with family.
We got the sweet and sour chicken, the combination fried rice, the green onion pancakes, and the beef broccoli ….my daughter said 9/10 and there is absolutely no leftovers so that’s a good thing! There’s a lot of people eating here and the table right next to us was quite large and a bit loud and laughing a little bothersome but overall good ! $108 including tip wiped the table clean before we could even walk away me and my mom split the bill it’s also right in front of the parking garage super convenient
Solid value food and service. Great lunch. Seafood chow fun hand only 2 shrimp and 2 small pieces of fish but taste was great. Comfort food restaurant
We decided to stop here after walking around a bit. I am glad we did! I ordered Kung Pao Chicken which was very tasty! My wife ordered Beef Mongolian. She liked it but said some meat was a little rubbery. We also ordered crab rangoon but they came out fairly cold and after our meal, instead of an appetizer. Not sure why but explains the temperature. The staff was great but did have to remind them to get water and then refills. I am not sure they are used to people drinking so much water. But they attended well and were nice. They also gave us some delicious soup on the house and some tea. Overall it was a good lunch for under $50.
Our Chinese-American tour bus driver recommended The Garden Restaurant. We weren't disappointed. There's an option to eat "family style" or order individual plates. We opted for the individual plates. Each came with soup, an egg roll, and steamed rice (with an option to upgrade to fried rice or brown rice for $2 extra). The egg rolls came first and were good. The soup of the day was egg drop. I didn't really like it (taste, texture, or smell), but I'm not an egg drop soup fan in general. I ordered the Mongolian Beef. It was very tasty, but a little too spicy for my sensitive stomach, so hubby traded with me. Hubby had ordered the Twice Cooked Pork Belly. So delicious! This was my favorite dish. I think this might be the most authentic Chinese restaurant I've ever eaten at. Very much recommended.
I stopped in at noon on a Friday to this charming little place. The service was excellent. And Fast. I ordered carry out General Tsao's with pork fried rice. They packaged it with the spicy sauce seperate. I liked that. The fried rice was white rice with scrambled egg. It was good. But not what i expected.

I loved the food and the service. One of our dishes was the pan fried vermicelli that was so crispy and the filling within was tasty. Too bad I can't remember the name of this dish. The restaurant was clean and comfortable. The portions were very good. Definitely would come back again.

Service was really, really great. Multiple people checked on us and we were sat and served fairly quickly. Serving tea with the meal is also a pretty cool touch. It's an obvious tourist trap though as it's right next to a group of hotels (and priced like you'd expect). The egg drop soup and egg fried rice were solid but the general tso's and lemon chicken were extremely low quality. Could easily tell they were deep fried from frozen-in-a-bag. For the quality of the food, $16 to $30 per person is decidedly not worth a visit here. If you do stop by, keep your expectations low.
moderately expensive food with 18% automatic tip added. atmosphere is about 7/10, food is about 6.5/10 (Sam Woo is a little better), but the automatic 18% tip added was really something... and the smiles and all end once bill is put on table. so, it just doesnt feel all that good does it. windows are pretty nice with good open street view. food is presented well, complementry tea is excellent, the food is sort of a hit/miss in my opinion. certainly dont waste money on stir fried rice which is more like stired white rice, chinese noodles reminded me of pasta... idk.
Food wasn't cooked all the way through. (Pork) Food mediocre at best. Waitress hovered like a helicopter, very uncomfortable having someone watch every mouthful you take. Restaurant itself looks clean enough, location to Chinatown good, but I wouldn't eat or recommend this place to anyone. A little iffy eating raw food!
Typical Chinese fare: short of Tender Loving Care towards their interior and their food. Ordered Mongolian beef for lunch: so full of salt, MSG, and cooking oil that tastes stale. I'm embarrassed because I am a Chinese: why can't more Chinese restauranteers give their craft more tender loving care?
Looks neat and clean restaurant but food is OK Staff is friendly , quick service
The food we received was okay, but this was the worst service I’ve ever received at a restaurant. The three of us ordered potstickers, sweet and sour pork, steamed rice and chow main. The potstickers were fine, then they brought us sweet and sour chicken by itself. About a half hour later they brought the check. We mentioned we were still waiting on food and she smiled and walked away. A while later they came to clear the table and asked us about paying the bill and we again mentioned we never received half the food. The guy apologized just took those items off the check without even asking if we still wanted the food or not, but we told him that yes we did still want the food we ordered. Maybe 20 minutes later the chow main came (at this point about an hour after we ordered). In the end, they brought us the final bill and it already had a very undeserved 18% gratuity included.
We ordered tender lamb and vegetable dish. We wanted to send a plate back and cancel the second plate but our server wouldn’t let us do that. They ran out of a lot of vegetables, our food did not look like the pictures. We were not given hot water/tea like other tables. Total $48.20

The bbq pork fried rice and the general tso chicken was the worse Chinese food ive ever had!! There was no flavor in the bbq pork fried rice and so much lettuce and the general tso chicken tasted like old sweet and sour chicken which was so gross!! Never going to this place again not worth $45 for just rice and chicken
