The best!! Obama is my influencer .. so I follow him .. food is fresh and test good !!
Delicious dim sum. The Peking duck was excellent too! It was pretty good value too - we weren’t shy about ordering, everyone left very full, and it cost us $25/person after tip.
We ate here for Thanksgiving dinner. There was a waiting line but we got in within 5mins and with the nice supervisor/manager. The place is old but well kept and decor with Chinese painting and wooden doors and displace of roasted duck, bbq meats and fish tanks. The menu is quite big but plenty of choices. We decided to stick with DimSum and 1/2 of Perking Duck. Easy order with our waiter, whom is nice and friendly guy. Wishing 5mins, the foods started rolling out. Quite big portion with reasonable price tag. The foods are hot, quite tasting, and packed with favor. Quite impressive. We really enjoyed our Asian Thanksgiving dinner here at this place a lot more than we expected that we ate them all and were overly full. Thank you.
My mom and I ate here on 11/7 and we had the best dinner here of our whole trip to sf! The food was very tasty, at an excellent temperature and the staff was very attentive. They sat us right away as soon as we entered the restaurant and gave us a delicious hot tea to go with our meal. We will be eating here when we go back to sf for sure!
This is a place I often visit when I’m in San Francisco, and I finally decided to write a review today. Both the food and the atmosphere have always been satisfying, and every visit feels familiar and comforting. I appreciate that they’ve kept up their quality — definitely a spot worth recommending.
When we arrived in San Francisco, we stayed near Union Square, and Chinatowm was pretty close by. We couldn't pass up the opportunity to eat in the largest Chinatown in the United States, so we went with the recommendation provided to us....the Great Eastern Restaurant. When we arrived at the restaurant, we were seated downstairs, and this restaurant had a classic Cantonese setting with white table cloths and a vintage decor. We had Kong Pau Chicken, Sautéed Beef with string beans, and Fried Rice all served with Green Tea. The Kong Pau Chicken was sweet and spicy, the Sautéed Beef was tender, and the Fried Rice had a good balance of eggs and scallions. The prices were reasonable, the portions were generous, and the service was quick. This was actually my first time eating in a Chinese restaurant (as I would usually get take out), and the Great Eastern Restaurant left a great impression. If you are visiting San Francisco's Chinatown, this is a great place to stop for a hearty meal.
Food was out of this world honestly. We came in randomly on a Thursday after work looking to just get a beer. Decided to order some dimsum which was incredible it took us by surprise. And then we got a bit hungry so we ordered some Singaporean egg noodle stir fry and mayo shrimp that’s served with glazed honey. Omygod. Literal 10/10. The atmosphere could be better yes sure. But the food definitely was a total 10/10. Would recommend!!!

Didn't have to wait for a table, but we waited almost 10mins for our server; I dont think any of them wanted to serve us. (We almost walked out) We also, had to track down our server. Then they forgot one individuals entire order. Just dont go in a somewhat bigger group, our wasnt that big though. Food was really good though.
Came to this Chinese dim sum place at the recommendation of ChatGPT…chose it because Lee Hsien Long and Obama was here. Food was 50:50 - half was amazing, other half meh. - long beans sold as four season bean was meh…not crunchy, the seed was large (meaning beans were old) - siew mai was so-so only - every dim sum restaurant would be judged by their siew mai - the prawn was chunky, but that’s about it. What’s really good: - steamed pork rib - the meat was tender and chunky. One of the best I’ve ever had in terms of the flavor - chicken feet was great too - the feet were all so fleshy..very different from what we usually have in Asia. - “Peking duck” was nice…but it’s not really served authentic Peking duck style with the dumpling skin. They serve it with buns instead. The skin of the duck was nice and crispy. Service was not bad for a Chinese restaurant.
Good dim sum and service! Prices are reasonable. It was filled to capacity with diners waiting at the front lobby for an open tabke. The din sum dishes were of a good size and delicious. The noise is loud like a true dim sum restaurant. The wait staff provided good service. A good place for dim sum and tea.
Not a great vibe but the service made up for it. Just had some quick dim sum with fried pork dumplings, hot dog rolls, and some soup dumplings. I would say that the dims sum was better than making at home but worse than some other spots I have had in the city. Having the good company of family made sense why people come here. 7.7/10 Fun fact: Obama has been here and they show a photo of him.
We dined for brunch and had Dim sum. We ordered 6 items of which two were not available. The service was ok but the server was quiet and not very helpful, perhaps if could have been a language barrier. However, what we did order was delicious and fresh. The only thing we didn’t like was the state of the restrooms which were dirty and gave us a yuk feeling. A shame because the Resturant itself was fairly clean and tidy.
Best item: Chung fun rice rolls are so soft and comforting. \nGood dim sum that really old school. You can tell by how many old people are here. If you want upscale this might not be the place for yo…
A decent restaurant in Chinatown. The service was good. The tea especially was highlight as well. Loved our peeking duck and fried crab. Both were delicious. The ambience was decent.

We recently dined at Great Eastern Restaurant in San Francisco, and the overall experience was delightful. While the pricing may lean towards the higher side for portion sizes that are not overly generous, the flavor and taste of the dishes make up for it. The exception was the spring roll, which didn't quite meet expectations. The service was commendable, and the restaurant maintained a clean ambiance, although the interior showed signs of age. The downstairs restroom, although aged, did not compromise cleanliness. However, it's worth noting that the downstairs location could be challenging for individuals with disabilities due to the stairs. Despite these considerations, the dining experience was memorable, especially with the authentic Peking duck, chicken feet, and fried rice. A standout was the tofu skin with ginko nuts, which added a unique and delightful touch to the meal. If you're in Chinatown, San Francisco, Great Eastern Restaurant is a must-try for those seeking an authentic and flavorful culinary adventure.

Avoid this place at all costs!!! The senior man at the front with glasses didn’t greet us or acknowledge us when we tried to check in. He completely ignored us while the check-in line filled up and only spoke to customers who were not people of color. The behavior was extremely rude and felt discriminatory. It genuinely felt like we were treated differently and not properly seated because we are people of color. With the number of negative reviews about this company’s customer service, you would think management would make an effort to improve how customers are treated. Do better!!!!!!!
If I could give it negative stars, I would. Avoid this place at all costs. They took 30mins to seat us, another 25mins to take our order, 30mins for one entree out of 8 entrees, 3 entrees brought out cold 20mins later, water was provided 45mins to an hour of food being served,3 more entrees 20mins later, no refills on water, remaining entrees brought out after we shared all our food with each other. Someone finally came to give water refills, but because I asked for boxes and the check, he only filled one glass halfway. They also demanded I pay a hefty tip even though the service terrible.
Worst dining experience I’ve had. Avoid this place. We came here to celebrate my mom’s birthday and it completely ruined the night. The service was terrible—the waiter barely checked on us, and the food was mediocre at best. Nothing memorable or worth the price. The biggest issue, though, was the billing scam. Our check was scribbled all over, our card was run without a clear explanation, and a tip was automatically added without our consent. When I questioned it, they claimed it was a “suggested tip” written at the bottom, and that if you don’t verbally tell them you don’t want it, they assume you do. That is not standard practice at any restaurant I’ve ever been to. When we pushed back, all they said was, “That’s just how it is.” Completely dismissive and unprofessional. This place ruined a family celebration, and for that alone I will never return. I strongly recommend going elsewhere unless you want poor service and shady billing practices
Food was pretty good but everything else pretty bad. It took literally 40 minutes sitting there doing nothing before the server came by. That right there will make me never come back here. Water never offered. Then the atmosphere... there isn't any. Just a big, open bright room. No bar. No cool, low light areas. Nothing. The atmosphere at Dennys is better. And they do the auto tip thing. They charge you a tip without asking. Thats just bogus. If I want to tip, I will. Don't force it on me.
Very bad food. The chicken soup was stinky, no taste in any food. We ordered Kang pola chicken, veg roll, fried shrimp dumplings and soup. We left the remaining food there, since it was too bad. The owner/person in the counter - demanded tips, which was unreasonable. we informed him the service was bad. We were waiting for the bill almost 15mins. Only 3 waiters were there. I won’t recommend this place
