Great sushi. Adorable location. Excellent service . We really enjoyed our lunch. We had the Cobra on their specials menu, the Harajuku and the Akihabara. All were excellent

You gotta bookmark this Michelin Bib Gourmand spot! Okane is a more laid-back, authentic Izakaya compared to its sibling restaurant @omakase_sf (Michelin starred fine dining). You can choose to dine at a table or sit at the chef's bar, where you can watch them prepare each dish. The fish here is FRESH and sourced from Toyosu Fish Market in Tokyo! There is a lot of selection on the menu ranging from sushi/sashimi, yakitori, and hot entrees. No need to break your bank, get the quality of fine dining but with the comfort of casual here. * Shishito Peppers * Hamachi Kama * Omakase - Chef's Choice Sashimi (10 pc) * Kakuni * Shinjuku Roll * Wakame Salad * Miso Soup * Soy Garlic Edamame * Born Gold Daiginjo

One of the best sushi place in the bay area. Was so surprised about the price as well. Ginza roll is wow! Roppongi too. Toro sashimi is super tender.

Wow! Great sushi alternative to the more expensive sister restaurant next door. They have Omakase and a great selection of sushi, sashimi and nigiri. Spent my birthday here and loved it. You should try it too.

Had a great omakase, some of the best fish we’ve ever had (scallop, halibut and egg custard some of the highlights) we sat at the counter, Camilo was very kind and friendly. Very expensive but worth it.

Amazing omakaze, chef was super friendly and have us some extra things to try (firefly squid and soft shelf crab) which were amazing! We were two adults and got the nigiri omakase x2, amaebi nigiri, uni nigiri (best uni I've ever had) and the Okane roll and left very full and happy! Will have to go back everytime I'm in SF!

5-20-21: Came here for dinner and sat inside. Service was great and staff wore masks all the time! Sushi was excellent. 🐟 tasted very fresh. My favorite was the special rolls. I usually ask for their recommendations and choose a few from the list. The restaurant also has some hard to find Japanese 🍻. Overall, a great place for very tasty 🍣👍.

Really great dining experience. Everything was delicious and uniquely prepared. The amberjack was the best fish I have ever tasted. The server was so friendly and helpful and joined in our jokes. Place is cozy and intimate but still good for groups or a date. We tried almost everything on the menu and are planning to go back!

Reserve the 4:30 pm spot on Sunday. You won’t regret free street parking and no crowds outside when you walk in :) 10/10 would recommend the Omakase menu. It was about $500 for three people including drinks and alcohol.

If you happened not able to book michelin stars omakase next door, this place will decently satisfy you! Good variety of japanese fish, one of greatest uni I ever had (even compared to japanese spots in Tokyo) Definitely recommended for some good sushi!

Continues to live up to the hype by serving great sushi and izakaya dishes! This time my standout dish was the mentaiko udon, which was the best example of udon I've ever had and will always remember from now on as what udon texture should be! I also wasn't a big fan of udon before - preferring soba when I get the chance - but this changes my perspective. I'm going to try more udon from now on Update: 3/25 - Amazing as always. Sukiyaki is also delicious and also a must try!

Incredible food, good service and a very unique sake selection. The best sushi experience I've had anywhere outside Japan. I actually thanked the chefs with a small tear in my eye 🙈 We will visit Okane everytime we're in SF.

First visit. 50% occupancy due to COVID-19 but any indoor dining is a pleasant change for me. Shout out to Eddie, the new itamae. Every dish was exquisitely executed, beautiful, and delicious. Menu was brief but ample daily specials kept it fun.

tried Toro, uni, rolll with Kirin beer. All tasted very fresh and good. Enjoyed it and will go back again. A proof of Vac is required.

Fantastic food and service from everyone there! Comfy and cozy ambience with soft and warm lighting. The staff were extremely welcoming from the beginning and answered all of our questions. The fish was extremely fresh without any hints of "fishiness". We highly recommend the "crispy rice" for appetizers and the omakase experience! 100% would come back - thanks for having us!

Simple wonderful time and experience here. Simple but yet elegant decor for a small place, with music (background, can be loud sometimes). Parking is found by street parking, we parked couple blocks away, free of course. Friendly, attentive and cheerful service throughout our dinning. The foods are fresh and very delicious. We couldn't stop ordered from one to the next and many more. It was a delicious dinner with great service overall.

One of our favorite sushi spots in the city. The fish always fresh and delicious. Their Hamachi Kama Is some of the best. The servers are very good, friendly, and knowledgeable. They also serve pretty late which is always nice.

Had business dinner with my team here on a weeknight, and the restaurant was very accommodating g for a reservation of 10 people. The place was a bit small, but there was enough space to seat all 9 of us. We ordered a lot of items: Hamachi Crudo, Pork and Vegetable Gyoza, Soft Shelled Crab, Edamame, Salmon, Tuna, and Unagi rolls, the Caterpillar roll, and many others. All of them tasted above average, with no bad or bland dishes amongst all that were served. My personal favorite was the fried soft-shelled crab, which was surprisingly light, crispy, and had just the right amount of flavor. The food was overall excellent, though there was no true standout. Highly recommend especially as the prices were fair and not too expensive. 4.5 out of 5.

Absolutely outstanding! The best sushi I’ve had in a long time — fresh, flavorful, and beautifully presented. Every dish was a delight, the service was warm and attentive, and the atmosphere made it all even better. Truly the best of everything. A must visit if you're in the area!

This romantic lil sushi spot made the perfect birthday dinner to celebrate my boyfriend. The staff was attentive and welcoming and sitting at the bar to watch the sushi master delicately prepare each item added the perfect experiential element. For a place that only serves fish imported directly from Japan, it was amazing to walk away spending only $150 total (for two people) while feeling absolutely full. The prices felt very reasonable (for SF, of course) but the quality and creativity of each item was top notch. Favorites included the chicken kaarage, temaki hand rolls, and Rainbow Roll. We ordered the Roppongi Roll after seeing it all over the reviews here (it’s the one wrapped in cucumber), and while it was fresh it was a bit underwhelming compared to the other rolls — I’d probably opt for other rolls next time we go. The staff was attentive and made us feel so welcome — they even brought us a bit of complimentary yuzu sake and a gold-dusted strawberry matcha dessert. Wow! The sushi chefs were mesmerizing to watch work, and they were friendly with those of us at the counter. They answered questions about the fish they were preparing and offered recommendations. It felt very intimate and cozy, really elevating the overall experience. Overall, this was the PERFECT choice for a romantic birthday dinner, and I can’t wait to come back.

This place is the walk-in version of "Omakase" restaurant next door (same owner), which is more formal and requires a reservation in advance. Okane is certainly one of the best high-end sushi houses in SF. Everything is super fresh, and they serve A5 wagyu from Japan. The service could have been a bit faster though, especially for the last 2 items in the omakase course that I ordered. To be fair, they were very busy, so it's understandable. I took all the upgrades on the menu and ordered the A5 wagyu as extra. They like to spray edible liquid gold on some menu items, which was great! It was a fantastic overall experience. Very clean place and friendly staff, and paid parking was also in the same building and very reasonable. Super convenient!

All the fish here is from Japan, that is facilitated through their association with their sister restaurant, Omakase. For a casual, a la carte sushi experience in SF, Okane is top tier. Particularly, we had to find a last minute reservation during Mother’s Day weekend to eat with our friends visiting from overseas. To our surprise, Okane had open reservations that we booked immediately. The highlight is their squid sashimi wrapped in perilla leaves. Their unni, amaebi (sweet shrimp), otoro, chutoro, and scallop were phenomenal. Patience is required as you can tell the 2 chefs cut the pieces to perfection. In addition, since we got there at 9:10 and we ordered a lot for 3 people, the last dish did not arrive until close to 9:50pm. We apologized for keeping them close to closing (10pm). The server said “no problem! We don’t close when we still have sushi to serve” with a genuine smile. Although we enjoy omakase, it is nice to be able to order exactly what you want to eat. Thank you for having us and we look forward to returning. As for tipping, we graciously did 18%.

I wanted to have sushi and sashimi while I was staying in San Francisco and OpenTable suggested Okane. I wanted to sample how fresh the produce were and asked for a chef's selection of nigiri. I also mentioned I would as allergic to Squid and Octopus so that the chef can make amendments to fit my dietary restrictions. Nigiri was fresh and I loved them. The atmosphere was a bit tense (perhaps I was one of the last few patrons in) and felt a bit uncomfortable during my stay. As soon as I finished my meal, I called for the check, paid and left quickly. Delicious food, the chef's selection is a steal ($35 for 6 piece of fresh nigiri), I might give it a try again with friends in the evening.

High quality but overpriced. Would rather go to their sister restaurant Live Sushi (unless you compare it to Omakase which is next door lol then it’s not expensive 😅) Tried the wagyu & snow crab roll (good but not wow), poki salad (too salty), agedashi tofu (wish it was more crispy), chutoro nigiri (amazing but pricey) and chirashi bowl (overpriced for the portion). Would go to either omakase or a more casual place, Okane sits awkwardly in the middle and feels like a place to go when people can’t get a reservation next door lol

Two of us dined in for dinner. Delicious sushi overall and orders arrived on time for the most part. Nori was slightly chewy than I woul've liked ( not saying it was soggy. Just a bit too chewy ). And our order of miso soup never arrived until we finished our meal. Other than that, was very satisfied with the place :)

Food was excellent 5/5 really good toro quality and nice sushi rolls but getting a lower grade because service was rushed and not exxellent… waiters staring at you while you taste the wine. I had 3 different sushis 2 glass of wine in maximum 1:15

Be sure to ask questions otherwise they will automatically opt for the most expensive option dish for you. Like the oysters I ordered, they didn't verify if I wanted the ones with uni and ikura on it or not. Otherwise, foods are great and service is okay but could be better considering the 4 of us, 1 is a 6 year old kid spent $427 on just dinner

$95 Omakase price point. 7 courses including 1 spinach appetizer, 2 oysters, 4 pieces sashimi, 8 nigiril sushi, 1 snow crab steam eggs and 1 green tea cheesecake. The overall experience was good, especially customer service was top. Wish the portion could be bigger🤞

Still one of the Japanese favs in SF. If you’re looking for some real good nigiri, or Japanese specialties in general, Okane is an awesome choice. Make ressies if you can. They do get packed. Some groups looked a little bothered that they had to share a communal table. It’s easy. Call them or book it online. As far as price point, it’s cheaper than their sister restaurant, Omakase, next door. They share the same bathroom, but are quite diff vibes. We basically tried every seasonal nigiri option, Okane handroll, and tried a few apps. The edamame was a bit overcooked. The staff was a little tough to get their attention at times. But overall, still a good experience. 4 stars.

M
Martin L

High quality sushi and rolls. However, it was not good enough to merit the high prices. Service was quick. My friend ordered the udon and the portion was larger than we expected, so the udon carries decent value. I was satisfied with the taste of the chef's choice sashimi combo, although it was not filling enough to compose a meal by itself. The seabream in the Tai Chazuke was very delicious. The rice and tea portion of the chazuke was flavorless other than the furikake seasoning, which is alright if you are looking for something mild but not if you want something that will excite your palate. Overall, I had a decent experience but nothing entices me to return.

A

high quality sushi that comes with a high price tag! be prepared to pay $80+/pp but definitely worth the splurge for special occasions. nigiri: overall, all pieces were delicious but the o-toro and sake toro were my favorites - so creamy. amaebi, kinmedai (snapper) and kamasu (barracuda) we’re also good but would pass next time. ginza roll: soo good! i love any roll with torched fish on top and the little kick from the jalapeño balanced the creaminess shinjuku roll: also tasty with the waygu smokiness highlighting the roll

T
Thanat Jatuphattharachat

Good variety of selections. The sushi portions are not too big, and the prices are reasonable. I just wish the fish could be served slightly warmer - I understand it’s kept chilled for safety, but the strong contrast between the cool fish and warm rice slightly affects the overall enjoyment. Still, it was a good experience overall!

I want to say that first the food is amazing but there's a reason why this isn't s 5 star review. We were a table of 5 and had a good time. I think one of us got the Omakase and the rest of us got regular menu items. Our server was wonderful and the fish quality was amazing on the Chef's choice. Townsend is also a top tier roll that I recommend. Only sour note was at the end we were charged 20% grautity on a party of 5. However on the menu they said they auto charge 20% on parties of 6 or more. So it's just kind of like confusing. It's not that they didn't deserve the tip, but the rule should be clarified for future customers.

Today we have okane. Just getting out I still don’t know how to say the name correctly. Anyways I went in pretty blind. I had No idea where I was eating or where I was. Not super familiar with soma. The atmosphere reminded me of Japan. It had that sort of vibe, though just looking out the window reminded me that I was not in Japan. I went to Japan once, it was amazing. So the service was great. Welcoming and met all our needs even without asking. The fish was fresh and flavorful. The rolls I got mixed the flavor of fish and other ingredients very well. I was satisfied very much with the quality of the rolls and fish. The fish was fatty and fresh. I also got miso soup which came in a big portion. It was warm and prepared me for the meal very well. Overall the quality of fish and blend of flavors makes the food shine and beat out a lot of seafood and sushi places in general. The only thing was the table was super sticky. I don’t know why. It was not a big problem, but I prefer my tables not to be sticky. Not sure when the next review will be so, till next time I guess

My girlfriend went here recently, we think here is a good place to eat some sushi and sashimi. We ordered two Don and one Karaage(Fried chicken), the seafood Don tasted very good, it was fresh and delicious. But another one Sukiyaki don, it tasted like Gyudon, I lived Japan for 2 years and I have to say that the Sukiyaki is kind of anohter food compare with Gyu don. Last, the Karaage tasted soft and juicy, but it was too salty, eat it with some lite foods like Seafood or sushi or sashimi.

Pretty overpriced izakaya menu - one of those restaurants that seems to a bit of everything - sushi, tempura, sukiyaki, yakitori - competently but not memorably.

Quality was good but not amazing, and I liked that the rice to fish ratio leaned more toward the fish. The portion overall was a bit small. The Bluefin Abundance was all tuna and was decent. The Shirokane roll was warm, interesting, and enjoyable. We weren’t very hungry to begin with, so it was fine but if I had been hungry, I probably would’ve needed 2-3 rolls on my own.

Okane offers a nice change of pace from its Michelin-starred sibling, Omakase. Located right next door, Okane provides a more relaxed vibe for enjoying Japanese comfort food. Think shareable plates, creative rolls, and other Asian specialties. The restaurant itself is intimate, with limited indoor seating, including bar stools. It creates a cozy atmosphere, perfect for a casual date night or catching up with friends. Reservations are recommended, especially on weekends, to avoid a wait. Our server, Yui, was fantastic. He was attentive and friendly, even taking the time to chat with us about the menu and the nigiri as he was preparing them. We opted for the nigiri combo, hamachi carpaccio, uni nigiri, and Wakadori Karaage (crispy chicken). The hamachi carpaccio was a bit underwhelming – the slices were thinner than we expected. We also had to request ginger (after our first few dishes), which seemed like an oversight. The star of the show, however, was definitely the nigiri combo. Our 10 pc. nigiri combo included - 1. Hirame 2. Shima aji 3. Hamachi 4. Salomon belly 5. Kurodai 6. Ikura 7. Maguro 8. Hokkaido scallop 9. Japanese baracuda 10. Toro with caviar Each piece featured generous cuts of fresh fish. My personal favorites were the kurodai, salmon belly, Japanese barracuda, and the splurge-worthy toro with caviar. These were melt-in-your-mouth delicious! On the other hand, the uni nigiri was a bit of a letdown. At only $18 for two pieces, it felt like a steal, but unfortunately, the uni itself wasn't as sweet as we'd hoped and had a bit of a fishy aftertaste. The Wakadori Karaage was decent but a bit dry and could have used more sauce for the amount of chicken. Okane is a decent choice for a casual Japanese dining experience. The fresh fish in the nigiri combo was excellent, especially some of the premium cuts. The service was friendly and attentive. However, a few minor stumbles with the hamachi carpaccio, uni, and karaage kept it from being a perfect experience. If you're looking for a more relaxed take on Japanese cuisine with a focus on fresh fish, Okane is worth a try. Just keep in mind the limited seating and make a reservation!

Tried the chef’s counter omakase and left disappointed. The fish was fresh but nothing memorable. There was almost no explanation from the chef or servers, and the whole meal felt rushed. The atmosphere was off and didn’t capture the calm, intimate feel of a true omakase. For the price, it just didn’t deliver the experience I expected.

I went there with my wife for a special occasion. Made reservation 3 weeks prior to try their course menu. The food was fine, it was concise but effective with good quality ingredients and enough depth to each palette. The issue was how the course menu was designed and how it was served. The course menu was a most one hour experience, but we were there for nearly 2 hours. Each course had 20~25 minute wait in between without further explanation from the staff. Eventually towards the end one guy came to us and apologized for the wait due to kitchen being too busy. I understand things can get busy but this is a course menu. Any high caliber kitchen should be able to execute same quality course menu experience 10 out of 10 times. It ruined the night for us on a special day and it was utterly pissing that we were forced to pay over $50 in tips. If you value your time I would not go here. If you enjoy staring at the wall for an hour, yeah why not.

This place is very disappointing. First of all, we were seated next to a large group that was being extremely loud. Their voices and sounds were so sharp that it hurt our ears. I'm not usually someone sensitive to noise but I couldn't even hear my partner talking to me over the sound of the group next to us. We expressed this to the staff, including that my partner's ears were hurting from the loud sounds, and they agreed with us that they were being very loud but said there was nothing that could be done. We asked if we could be moved to one of the other several empty tables that were not immediately next to the loud table, but were denied. The group beside us were allowed to be excessively loud for the next hour. Second of all, we ordered the omakase set course, which at $95 per person in addition to mandatory 20% tip. I expect a much more refined experience. We were sat down at 6:30PM but didn't receive our first small dish until an hour later at 7:30PM. Each following small dish took 15-20 minutes to arrive. Total dining time was 2 1/2 hours due to the slow service which meant we had to cancel our other plans for the rest of the day. The food was nothing special and definitely not worth the price point. While the sashimi and nigiri offerings were average, the other dishes were even more bland and unimpressive. Although we expressed our dissatisfaction with our experience, no one came to speak with us or try to alleviate our concerns. We would have made more complaints at the time but this was a celebratory meal and we didn't want to ruin more of our day. I would never recommend this restaurant to anyone or return myself ever again!

We were a party of two and were sat at a table next to a large group that was so loud it was hurting our ears. We asked if we could be moved since there were other empty tables, but they ignored our request. No one apologized or offered any kind of resolution. We then waited an hour just for the first course of our omakase to arrive. The food is average at best and extremely overpriced. Do not come here!

We had a reservation on New Year’s Day and when we showed up two employees told us that the person with the key disappeared. So us and other customers had to wait in the cold. And apparently that person never showed up so we had to look for something else to eat while starving. That’s not fun at all especially on a New Year’s Day.

The food doesn’t taste good. One piece of uni is 28 dollars. The unagi rice looks like pre made food with the unagi and rice together but separated in the center. Food all look dry. The toro tastes extremely old and bad. WONT RECOMMEND!
