This place was the first burrito I had when visiting San Francisco and wow I definitely did not make the wrong decision in coming here. This was the best burrito I have ever had and while I haven't been to all the popular burrito spots, this has been my favorite thus far on my trip. The food is all very fresh and they grill the meats right in front of you. They also have three options of salsas that are all great. Also, while it may not be the usual order, I also got the fajitas and the steak was delicious. Not only that, this place has a history to it, which I always love to see when I go to a place. I would highly recommend this to anyone in the San Francisco area!
Most massive $8 dollar super taco I ever had in the entire state of California, very cute spot with a water fountain , has plenty of parking and a restroom
I was told this was the place to go for the most authentic mission burrito experience, and they were right. I wound up getting a burrito over two pounds. The thing was massive and exactly what I needed after a long day. This place was on Man Vs. Food and a few other shows, and I can see why. The service was fast, and the food was good. What more could you ask for?
Been going there since 1975, THE best steak and cheese burrito is SF. Every thing is very good. We were able to watch the family grow through the generations.
I’ve been coming to this taqueria for years, and it remains my absolute favorite in San Francisco! As the originator of the Mission-style burrito, they’ve truly perfected the art of CA Mexican taqueria cuisine imo—every bite is flavorful, filling, and hits all the right notes. I especially love that they offer a wide variety of veggie options, making it easy to enjoy something delicious whether you’re in the mood for a classic carnitas burrito or a hearty vegetarian plate. The ingredients are always taste fresh, and the portions are generous without being over the top. I do miss their salsa bar—it added such a fun, customizable touch to every meal—so I’m hoping they bring it back someday. In the meantime, the salsas they provide are still amazing. Bonus points for having a Peninsula location too, which makes it super convenient when I’m out of the city but still craving that Mission-style goodness. Highly recommend to locals and visitors alike! *special thanks to Eddie and his family for always letting my dad sell his succulent plant’s torwards the end of his battle with cancer. He always enjoyed strumming his guitar outside and was a part of the mission vibes.
went back in january while visiting and absolutely loved it! it’s very authentic and you can tell they put money towards their business; the staff is very friendly and service was fast. as a hispanic, i had to get tacos, i couldn’t resist. i got regular tacos de birria; it comes with rice and beans of your choice. this is definitely one of the best tacos i’ve had, will be coming back for more, muchas gracias 🙏🏼🙏🏼
Another delicious place I got to try on the Mission food tour. Honestly would have never tried this place by the looks of it. But it was delicious. First time for me to try beef tongue (our guide highly recommended it) and it did not disappoint. Very smooth texture and super tasty. My friend's chicken taco was also very flavorful and moist. The vegan taco was the only thing that looked a bit anemic and with a tiny slice of avocado. Still giving it 5 stars because of the friendly service
This place hasn't changed in 30 years. One of the originals of the Mission District. Average sized San Francisco burrito. I didn't really think the flavors stacked up to other similar taquerias in the Mission. This place is OK. Nothing special.
As far as how much guac there is, there is plenty. Other than that carne azada is average, the chicken a bit tasteless. Pico de gallo too wet for me. There is too much hype for this place on social media. I say come here expecting normal food (not the best) and you will be OK. It gets expensive once you want add guac.
My ex told me about this place. He used to frequent it when he was stationed in Oakland in the 90s. He asked me if it still existed, and it does. So when I saw it on a recent outing to the Mission, I knew I had to try it. I ordered a chicken tamale plate. For $13, it was a bit expensive, but it was a pretty big tamale, which came with a salad, beans, and rice. The tamale didn't skimp on the chicken, and it was good. Not "I'm so coming back here" good. Though if I were to come back, I would get something less expensive. The people working in the back are friendly and patient. There's also lots of seating inside. They do need to fix the bathroom door though.. It kept swinging open (when unused) and I was facing it. I don't like seeing a toilet when I'm eating.
I used to come every week. Yesterday the burrito was the same price but a third of the size. Beans, rice and a half spoon of carnitas. It will be a long time before I go back.
Ok food, ok atmosphere, ok service, no restroom, calling the city for sanitary compliance, arrogant response for using the bathroom
I've been to this place twice now and the second time was even worst. My burrito was horrible to the point I wanted to ask for my money back. The meat was not seasoned tasted like it was 3 days old. The burrito itself was tasteless and tasted like you were chewing on rubber meat and it was smaller than average. I was also disappointed that the lady who put the burrito together didn't even know how to make it descent as if she's never put a burrito together. I wanted to give this place a second chance but it just was a waste and horrible experience..
My first time? The steak burrito was perfect…I’m assuming because I ordered in person. My second order was not at all what I ordered. The beans were wrong and the meat? It looked like a mix of pork and tongue… I ordered steak. My advice is to order in person. I won’t be going back.
