I recently dined at Kitava in San Francisco’s Mission District, and it was an absolute game-changer! I ordered the BYO bowl with Paprika Chicken and the Farmers Green Bowl, and both were bursting with fresh, vibrant flavors. The chicken was perfectly seasoned with a smoky paprika kick, tender and juicy, while the Farmers Green Bowl was a colorful mix of crisp greens. Every bite felt nourishing yet indulgent, which is hard to pull off! What really sets Kitava apart is their commitment to clean eating—100% free of seed oils, gluten, dairy, and other common allergens, which makes it a haven for anyone with dietary restrictions or just looking for real, wholesome food. The fact that they avoid seed oils entirely is a huge plus, as it’s rare to find a spot that prioritizes such high-quality, health-conscious ingredients without sacrificing taste. The service was friendly and quick, and the casual, clean vibe of the place made it a perfect spot for a feel-good meal. I’m already looking forward to my next visit—Kitava is a must-try gem in the Mission! Five stars all the way
If you’re looking for fresh, healthy, and absolutely delicious food, Kitava is the place to be! I tried the Mezze Harvest Bowl, Caesar Salad, and Immunity Broth, and every bite was perfection. The mezze bowl was packed with vibrant flavors and nourishing ingredients, the Caesar Salad was crisp and well-balanced, and the Immunity Broth was pure comfort—warm, soothing, and exactly what I needed. The entire menu is full of fresh, wholesome options, making it easy to enjoy a satisfying meal that’s both healthy and flavorful. The space itself is modern, clean, and welcoming, and I practically had the whole place to myself, which made for a relaxing dining experience. The staff were friendly and attentive, adding to the overall great vibe. I’m already looking forward to my next visit—this spot is a must-try for anyone seeking nutritious food that doesn’t compromise on taste!
Order at the counter & enjoy delicious, healthy did options with high quality ingredients. Easily customizable & generous servings.
Healthy quick casual food right off the 16th St BART and in adjacent building to a great yoga studio - easy pick up to/from commute. Love the menu options, especially the build a bowl and plantains.
Healthy, clean, and surprisingly flavorful. I can definitely see that there is so much thought and care put in the food from the sauce, side dishes, and the main salad or bowl itself. It can be a bit pricey if you keep adding add-ons. Still the food is high quality and you won't feel guilty to your body afterwards.
Real nice and healthy food! You can build your own bowl. The neighbourhood feels not so safe, but the restaurant was very nice and clean inside. Staff was also friendly and helpful.
TLDR: If you are following any kind of diet or have any allergies, this place is fantastic. If you are not on a diet or allergic to anything, you'll still find something you'll like. One of my coworkers is mildly allergic to most nuts and highly allergic to most fish. She is also trying to go on the keto diet, so she limited herself even more. It was hard trying to find a place to go with her, but she came across Kitava. It seemed like an interesting place so all my coworkers and I went to try it out. Kitava is a order up front, get a number, and take a seat place. I ordered the Cuban Bowl with the braised pork shoulder, one coworker ordered the General Tso's Chicken, and another ordered the Pesto Chicken Cobb. The order didn't take long to come out. We all ordered to go and the food came in a compostable container and with compostable utensils. My Cuban Bowl was very flavorful and everything worked together well. The meat was seasoned really well, the salad was very refreshing, and the plantains added some sweetness overall. The General Tso's chicken was coated really well with the sauce. The chicken was still juicy underneath the layer of crust. I didn't try the Cobb but my coworker really enjoyed it. The salad used mixed greens, mixed with the non-dairy dressing, making it very satisfying to eat. The pesto added a positive twist onto the usual Cobb. Overall, I like this place. Good, healthy food is not always easy to find and this place fulfills it. Everything on their menu is online as well, so you will about to see ahead of time what you can and cannot eat. My coworker with the allergies and diet loves this place and will be going back more in the future.
Location aside, Kitava is awesome. Their bowls are fresh, fast, and healthy. Staff is kind and accommodating.
Update: Been back here many times since, still really love their chicken and have started ordering the wild rice blend which is really good, also tried their power bowl and sweet potatoes and fries and everything is great, this is one of my favorite spots in the mission. Unfortunately I’d say the atmosphere suffers a bit because of the manager work area being right next to the seating area so you can hear everything they are discussing, but not a huge deal. Not really a health food guy but this place is really delicious. Got the chicken build your own with rice and plantains. The plantains weren't great but the chicken was awesome. The sauce too. Rice was a bit overcooked though and price is a bit much sadly. Sure I'll be back!
Yummy heathy bowl. I would def return for sesame chicken and chopped chicken. Only suggestion would be to consider increasing portion for an apt meal.
Great tasting healthy food
Absolutely amazing! So clean and DELICIOUS! I got the Bolognese with beef and it reminds me of Polish bigos. The kombucha on tap is yummy and refreshing! Boyfriend got the doodles with beef meatballs.
Ordered takeout with a friend. We each got the power bowl and split an order of the crispy brussel sprouts. 🥣 Power Bowl: 5/5 - So much flavor and more filling than I expected. I wish there was a little more quinoa and grains to go with all the sauce, hummus, and picked onions. There’s so much flavor I could have used the extra base, but it was great with the mixed salad too. Everything on this was delicious. 🥬 Crispy Brussel Sprouts: 4/5 - Honestly these were so delicious and the aioli was also so good and a little spicy. Only docking a star here because they were really greasy, which also made them less crispy. The taste was amazing though and it was a good portion size for the price. Overall I would definitely order these two items again. It was fast, reasonably priced, and relatively healthy. Highly recommend!

Gluten free restaurant, safe for celiacs, well seasoned, good portion, digital menu, minimalist atmosphere. I recommend!

Clean, nourishing food that still feels comforting Kitava brings health-conscious comfort to the Mission with bowls, roasted veggies, globally inspired flavors, and a menu that manages to feel both satisfying and fresh. Gluten free friendly, dairy free friendly, and very “I did something good for myself today.” If you can over the gross street vibes on 16th and Mission, you'll find a clean haven with tasty rewards. Great for: post-class refuel, clean eating, food that feels kind to your body.
This is my go-to spot for ordering lunch when I don’t want to feel like I’ve overdone it all afternoon :) Make your own bowls and the crispy chicken bowl are always great. Also shout out to the staff here for being so accommodating and careful with my baby daughters’s allergies. I called to confirm a few things and have been so impressed by the clean ingredients and care they take in the kitchen.
Great option for quick glutten free and vegetable forward food. Service was surprisingly great for being an order at the counter resteraunt, and I appreciated that for my dine in order, the food was served on real plates (and my tea in a real glass cup) rather than disposable containers.
I frequent Kitava for lunch as I work quite close. I always get the power bowl, which has lots of good stuff in it. Brought my girlfriend here before a night out and she was very happy with her plantain bowl. Mission st can be a bit busy, but when you come it, it's a nice chill place. Healthy, decently filling and not horribly expensive. Happy to have it in the area.

Amazing, clean, healthy, delicious food! So thankful for a restaurant like this in San Fran! The Kitava at the airport (Terminal 1) serves the absolute best dark chocolate vegan soft serve I've ever had! Service was friendly, efficient, and the food is affordable. Grateful for a couple of vegan options that are seed oil free, refined sugar free, and delicious. So thankful to have food like this at the airport (in addition to Kitava in the Mission district).
Had a great lunch here. Very lean and clean. Simple plates cooked well and reasonable prices. Portions not so large you can’t finish your food. Friendly staff and hygienic atmosphere. The pudding was a little strange almost like a gelatin and not a yogurt texture but otherwise very nice. Would come back.

Wifi, healthy bowls, super fast service. Not a huge portion (but a good lunch still), but not that much protein! Didn’t taste super fresh either, Honestly. Like it works? Was I impressed? No. Would I route there, prob not. But does it work? Yes. Vegan options. I went with signature “crispy chicken” which comes “highly recommended” but really it’s an 18$ chicken + broccoli + white rice. They served the plate without utensils (“go get them over there” was what I was told. Ya just really expensive but works ok

Underwhelming. I have celiac disease so a friend found this place to try together. I’m also vegan, and this restaurant doesn’t cater to vegans. There are options, but the food is pretty bland and boring. I suggest they make a vegan aioli. All of their sauces are vegan except the chipotle aioli which surprises me, because I’ve known many restaurants to provide vegan chipotle aiolis. I would’ve liked to enjoy the Brussels sprouts with it if they had. My friend got a bowl with beef and wasn’t impressed. We both noticed they throw a big thing of salt onto the dishes, even a side of broccoli was covered in salt. Too much. It also upset me their one plant protein option has oats, because many of us celiacs cannot eat oats (regardless if they’re labeled gf or not). I think it’s great they have a kitchen free of so many allergens, and healthier food! I would still refer them to others I know who struggle to eat out because of food allergies and contaminations, just not for me.
