Great coffee with an in house roast (a little too dark for my taste but I guess you can choose different beans if you ask?). You can see them roast the beans in the back and the entire cafe smells like fresh roasted coffee! Would highly recommend!
Best coffee in SF? Had an amazing interaction with Sergio. And when coffee is this geeked out it’s like really good drugs and not a frenetic and anxiety high. It’s a high high and goes really well with the amazing pastry selection! Espresso, good tunes spinning on vinyl, and where to go if you want to the best that SF has to offer when it comes to coffee. Try their cold brew coffee in the cans too!!
First and foremost, this shop is really focused on the quality of their coffee - it was one of the best lattes I’ve had in a while. If you’re looking for a place with specialty drinks full of flavorings and frills, this is not the place for you. However, if you are a coffee purist just looking for a good brew, you would be remiss to pass this spot by. In addition their pastries are very good and made fresh daily. Plenty of seating here as well which is always a plus.
Coffee is good but they seem to only ever have washed beans for drip/espresso (at least for the last 4 months). Definitely don't want to knock their rating for that but it's the one disappointing thing. If a greater variety of beans were available I'd go a lot more often.
Four Barrel was an excellent choice! We were visiting SF this past summer and needed a morning pick-me-up. The coffee is strong, the price is fair, the staff has a smile, and the ambiance is quintessential San Francisco. I'm not a coffee snob but I do know a coffee I do not like... Four Barrel has one of my favorite SF coffees!
I went here on a Friday morning. The place was busy and packed. The coffeeshop is spacious. There were ppl talking or people on their laptops. They only serve coffee, meaning no specialty flavored drinks. My friend ordered our drinks while I saved our seats. The service seems great and the place is pretty big. You can see the staff roasting the beans in the back. My latte was good. I ordered oat milk but it tasted like either 1% milk or non fat milk. Luckily, I wasn’t allergic to dairy so I didn’t bother to bring it up to the staff. Also, I normally get flavored drinks but the latte was good. I would go back
Four Barrels is exceptional in most regards, but where it counts the most is in their roast offerings and those are world class. I had a chance to stop by this summer for a mocha and it was superb. Don't miss a chance to stop if you have the chance, and do yourself a favor by picking up a bag of beans as well.
I have been coming here for years and I love it! Favorite coffee cafe in SF for atmosphere and awesome coffee. Baked goods really good too especially the sweet scones when they have them… they go fast!!! If you live coffee cafes you’ll love Four Barrel. Grateful the owners founded and run this awesome SF institution which most often open on holidays too 🙏🙏
This review is about sustainability only! By 2050, there will be more plastic in the ocean than fish, and it means a lot to me as a customer to find local businesses that are helping to mitigate this pollution crisis on our hands. I so appreciate that nearly every single person I see in this coffee shop is drinking out of a real, reusable glass or mug. It is refreshing! Especially when the norm at other cafes has become to create a constant stream of single use plastic trash, even when staying in that place to enjoy the drink. So thank you for being a leader and setting an example, showing what is possible! Bonus points because the coffee was absolutely delicious, as was the pastry. Keep up the amazing work!
The cortado was silky and smooth to taste. The spongy orange and pistachio cake was spongy, dense and moist all at the same time. plenty of tables and internet. They also have coffee, coffee makers and other tools for sale. Lastly, They display local artists in their walls. This place was recommended to me in an airplane while visiting SF and did not disappoint
I’ve heard of this coffee shop for a long time. When you walked in, you will just get done by their roof and how they decorate the environment. There were plenty of people, but because of these space it feels relaxing. If you walk towards the end, there is a person actually roasting the coffee and it was very cool. We won one day we’re very busy, but they still serve us pretty fast. Their coffee was very unique and it has like a nut taste in their coffee bean. This is the best coffee shop I’ve ever been in SF.
This cafe was a top highlight of my San Francisco trip! The staff were exceptionally professional and friendly. I was captivated by the hip ambience and the art-inspired decor. The quality of the coffee exceeded my expectations. I ordered a cortado, which offered a rich and robust flavor profile that truly showcased the quality of the beans. Watching the meticulous process of selecting, roasting, grinding, and brewing the coffee was a delight. For anyone visiting the city, I strongly recommend stopping by this cafe to experience their exceptional coffee and unique atmosphere.

A very strong contender for best coffee in SF. Fabulous baked goods too. Awesome place. Lovely people. A neighborhood fixture for many years. Still just as cool and vibrant as when it opened.
Amazing coffee, we always end up buying beans to take home. This is a roastery as well as a cafe, so the ambiance is exactly what we love with the smell of coffee!
Came here for coffee and to get some bakery items. The latte was delicious and the olive oil coffee cake was amazing. Nice open space to relax . No Chai though!

Very good coffee. The gluten free Loquat mahlab cake was stale (albeit nicely garnished with some dried cherries and edible flowers). Helpful, competent service. I liked the atmosphere, including the high ceilings and the wooden furniture. Cool looking ceramic cups and dishes completed the look.
I went here all the time for ice coffee. I even bought a mug from them. One day I forgot that’s my mug so I put it back their dish rack. I came back to ask for it. They said it’s gone and attempt to sell me a new one. Also the coffee has gotten weaker and weaker. The outdoor seating is nice but I’m not sure whether its worthy after all. Even though I live only 1-2 blocks from me. Its sad but I don’t think I can longer support this coffeeshop. They seem doing fine with me anyway :) Update: I came back for my mug. Thanks :)
If you’re a fan of good coffee, Four Barrel is definitely worth a visit. Their cappuccino hits the mark with a perfect balance of rich espresso and silky foam, making it a smooth, flavorful pick-me-up. The pastries are equally impressive—fresh, flaky, and just the right amount of sweetness to complement your coffee. Whether you’re there to catch up with a friend or just enjoy a solo moment, the vibe is relaxed and inviting. Four Barrel’s commitment to quality coffee and tasty treats makes it a standout spot for any coffee lover!
Stumbled upon this place while walking around the mission, and it was a cute find! It's quite vibey, and the coffee roasters are in the back. There's tons of tables and seating, and the area is so …

Nice ambience and decent service on a Saturday around midday. The beans were not a flavour that I or my partner enjoyed though. Quite a different flavour profile than most other coffee we have had in SF.
My drink was fine, but it's really dirty here. The pastry display case had a lot of flies in it and they were all over the food. The toilet had pee all over the seat and there was only one bathroom…
Wow -- Cups are way smaller since the last time I was here, the coffee is more expensive ($7.40), and my cappuccino wasn't even close to being hot enough. Bull(profanity removed) bad attitude is a …
I paid 7.15 for an iced latte. I don’t mind this even though it’s on the expensive end but for that I got the tiniest cup that is available on the market and that was 75 perfect filled with ice. I wouldn’t come here again, maybe if there are giving out free coffees, perhaps not even then The vibe was nice though
