Bewertungen von August Gatherings Albee Square
Creative, original, fabulous flavor, pleasant presentation, consistent quality, excellent service, August Gathering Restaurant, which serves authentic Cantonese cuisine and Cantonese/Western fusion cuisine, deserves a true five-star. I frequented August Gathering and had chance talking to Kenny, one of the two chefs/owners. Ken impressed me with his scientific, artistic and philosophical mind in culinary creation. Both chefs were trained and served as chefs in a famous Five-Star hotel in China decades ago. They had solid knowledge and skills in mastering raw material selections, cooking temperature effects, artistic dish presentations and other basics of being a top chef. With such solid foundation, Kenny has been on his journey searching for the next delicious taste. Patronizing wealth of restaurants of different cuisines around the world, Kenny found his muse here and there in creating his own fusion dishes; they varied from adding layers of non-Chinese flavors to an authentic Chinese dish, or adding a hint of Cantonese taste to a non-Chinese dish, or creating completely novel items. For the authentic Cantonese dishes which they served, they created unique preparation system in the kitchen to maintain the top quality of the dishes; they also maintained the traditional hand-made system even it requires massive manpower comparing to using machine to process the preparation. Among many dishes I enjoyed there, the grilled bone marrow was one of them. I had the similar dish in other fine restaurants. The one I had in August Gathering was added some Chinese flavor and was far superior to the ones I had in different restaurants. The bone marrow was grilled to the effect that its texture was like freshly grilled foie gras in a Five Star restaurant. The Salmon Salad combined the Japanese Sashimi with green salad. The vegetables in the salad were carefully chosen to bring out the flavor of salmon and the dressing added magic touch to the dish. Every time we dined there, we were happily satisfied with its authentic Cantonese and fusion dishes. There is no another restaurant in New York serving the such high caliber Chinese fusion dishes.
Had been here many times. Great but expensive food! If you wanna just try some Cantonese cheap but typical food you can try some others. But if you wanna have a good dinner with your friend, this place would be a good choice! TMI - In the busy hour, you might need to share a table with other customers. That might make you feel uncomfortable
This place isn't your typical traditional Cantonese restaurant; it's an innovative Chinese restaurant influenced by Cantonese, Jiangsu-Zhejiang, and Chinese banquet cuisines. The head chef boasts rich experience in Chinese culinary arts but doesn't limit themselves to tradition. While maintaining the excellence of traditional signature dishes, they continuously experiment with new elements. The dishes are not only of high quality but also creatively crafted, making it perfect for those who want to experience both luxurious Chinese banquet dishes and innovative styles of Chinese cuisine at the same time.
Chinese food fine dining and good service. It’s authentic Cantonese food with a modern twist. The portion is somewhat small but it’s how fine dining is, you know. It came out to be $45 per head, not crazy. It’s worth it especially if you compare it with Japanese fine dining and many others. The only complaint was they sit us 30 minutes late even with reservation. But the food and service was the best I had so far in Chinatown so I still give a five star. Oh did I mention NO MSG? I can always tell. And that’s really rare in Chinatown restaurants.
So far this is the best Cantonese/Chinese restaurant I have ever eaten in NY/Tristate/LA in the last 20 years. Their "beggar chicken" is the best: marinated in Chinese rose wine and wrapped in lotus leaf and layers of clay. Location is kinda off Chinatown. Price is on the expensive side but the food is definitely better than any other Chinese restaurants you can find in NY. The chef is from the #1 hotel in GuangZhou and cooks with his heart. He explains how he create the dishes, how /where he gets his ingredients from. He even make sure all the dishes were delivered out in the correct order and temperature. This hidden gem deserves a Michelin star
REALLY delicious cantonese food. I ended up here accidentally, and have ZERO regrets. The "outdoor" dining enclosure is one of the best I've been in, very warm. Tried a berkshire pork dish, string beans, seafood fried rice, and octopus noodles with bone marrow. Every single dish was beyond expectations in terms of deliciousness. It's not cheap, but the food doesn't disappoint!! Service was also top notch. Can't wait til indoor is open again to try inside, as the decor looks great also.
August Gathering is, hands down, the best Cantonese restaurant in the city. Sure it is pricy, but look at the ingredients and you will understand. I hate how some reviewers were expecting a 10 dollar meal from this spot with exquisite dishes. You won’t be commenting on a French restaurant that leaves you empty stomach after you pay $40 per person. Shame on double standards! This is what high quality Chinese food tastes and looks like. Try the black garlic and thank me later.
The best Cantonese restaurant in Chinatown! The food is truly authentic and innovative and more importantly, the service is exactly what a great Cantonese restaurant should provide! This is my favorite place after eating all over Chinatown. Did I mention that their chef is from a first class Guangzhou hotel, the White Swan? Everything made sense after I discovered that from their website. Yes, this is the representation of Cantonese fine dining!
I've lived in lower Manhattan over 20 yrs and traveled far & wide to find a high-quality, authentic unpretentious Chinese restaurant close by. (I absolutely loved Red Egg & Funky Broome btw.) This checked all my boxes. 1) The food is absolutely delicious. We had the duck in plum sauce appetizer, the soup dumplings (for my son who didn't care it wasn't a Shanghai restaurant - I didn't try these), the tea smoked chicken, salt & pepper shrimp, famous tofu soup and beef short rib fried rice. The tofu soup is a good counterbalance to the other rich items btw. It's a must for that purpose. The shrimp was head on and so tender yet crunchy. 2) The service is impeccable. Dishes were cleared regularly, fresh plates and napkins provided automatically, water refilled often, and importantly, clean chopsticks provided without asking when my son dropped his. Our server was attentive but not annoyingly so. 3) Decor - I like that this restaurant is nicer & newly renovated. It's upscale, clean and modern. However you wouldn't be out of place in a tshirt and jeans. If anyone hesitates because of price, think twice. This food is as good if not better than most trendy Manhattan restaurants, but this is not a slow paced, date night restaurant experience. This was the first of many visits and I look forward to it.
I love their dishes so much. Given their rather long menu (as typical in a Chinese restaurant), you basically must check out reviews on xiaohongshu to know what to order. I grew up in Hong Kong eating Cantonese food, and I thought all of the dishes we ordered were absolutely delectable. One thing I noticed with my friends was that, they seemed quite divided on some dishes, depending on whether they liked Cantonese cuisine to begin with. I think this place really caters to the Cantonese palate with creative but not necessarily traditional Cantonese dishes. That is, come if you have a southerner's taste buds, and don't if you are just looking for the most traditional Cantonese food.
This place is top notch. We had a large group of 12 and every dish was excellent. Not sure if Cantonese people have this everyday otherwise they are too lucky. Food is not overwhelming in any taste, not oily, and full of flavors. The servers are cheerful and attentive as well. Pricier than the average of the area but definitely worth it
My favorite Chinese restaurant in Chinatown. Overall a quite satisfying experience on Thanksgiving night. Cannot wait to come back for other dishes! Must-try: my favorite are 本楼招牌鸡 house signature chicken and 文思豆腐 wensi minced tofu soup. My boyfriend's favorite is 有机杂菌石锅焗饭 assorted organic mushrooms rice in hot pot Advantage: very interesting menu + super nice service. You can try several dishes which are rarely or not provided by other restaurant. For example, we ordered 冰镇梅子猪手 iced plum pork knuckle. This is a cold dish as appetizer with strong plum flavor. I have never tried this dish before and it tastes good. For the 陈皮豉汁蒸游水曹鱼 steam seaperch with citrus and black bean sauce, the waiter used spoon to take the bones out in front of us. Although the pork in 招牌咕噜肉 sweet and sour pork is a bit fat for me, the pineapple they use are the fresh ones instead of the canned ones. We also ordered 支竹草羊堡 lamb with bean stick in pot. Disadvantage: time limit for the meal. You can take at most 70 minutes to finish the meal. For our dinner, we have 5 people + 7 dishes, and finished around that time with no hurry. So 70 minutes is a reasonable time if you only comes for a meal. Waiting time: you need to show up to join the wait-list. The restaurant itself is not large. We arrived around 5 p.m. and the expected waiting time is 20-30 mins. We were lucky to have a table available probably in 15-20 mins. When we come back, there were so many customers waiting at the entrance.
The best Cantonese restaurant I have visited in recent memory. The dishes showcase the prefect combination of Cantonese cuisine’s respect for the originality of the ingredients, superb technique and traditional yet creative sourcing. It is a must try if you crave and respect Cantonese food.
Overall was good. The $58 beef with a big bone, hmm I personally don’t like it. The black pork was amazing $18, not cheap, but really tasty. We ordered 2 and they came in different portion size… Pumpkin was cute and yummy. With milk tea inside. Many seafood ran out for the night and was not available to order. Service was great.
My family of three came in today and ordered the following: (listed in order from love to like) Garlic Fried Chicken, Braised, Mushroom Rice, Short Ribs, Berkshire Pork appetizer. All of it was delicious, sauce on the Garlic Chicken was amazing and was great with the Mushroom rice. Easily 5 stars and would highly recommend!
Excellent contemporary Cantonese cuisine in Chinatown, NYC. This is a contemporary up-market Cantonese cuisine and is different from the usual traditional Chinese restaurants in Chinatown. The prices are higher but they have some unique dishes. The restaurant layout, furniture, and decoration are also nicer. The atmosphere is quieter and not as noisy and busy as traditional Chinese restaurants. Their wine list is quite good and there are some very good wines on it. I want to give 4.5 stars because the wagyu is not as tender as I expect. The signature chicken is very good while the Salad Citrus Flavor (溫泉蛋新會九制陳皮沙律) is very refreshing. Notes: Their actual menu has many more items than the one on their website.
I read most reviews and don’t agree on the 1 Star. Yes, this is China town. Because of this location, a lot tourists and non Chinese came to this restaurant. And I’m glad that they came here not because of cheap Chinese food. The price on the menu is higher than other Chinese restaurants. However, they are very tasty and very well presented. Each main dish is sufficient enough for a meal. For me, an appetizer size is already makes me feel full. Got to have some friends get together here and enjoy the banquet next time.
Super authentic and delicious canton food in Chinatown. We ordered chicken, fish, beef and lamb all very good. A little more exapansive comapring to other peers in the same area. But worth every penny giving its quality. Very good service as well, waiters do care every detail and they nice desserts after meal.
Quality Cantonese food! They have daily specials for soups so make sure you ask. We ordered a bunch of the dishes, and each of them was tasty! It was a well-designed fusion with a good amount of seasoning. The soup special was mushroom, chicken and the ribs. It was slow cooked so the soup was full of flavors! Their specialty chicken was good. Got a unique representation. The dish with beef was a little saucy but good nonetheless. Good service.
I definitely passed by this restaurant so many times while I went shopping!! Finally try it out today. The dishes are small portion so I think if you’re more than two people definitely order more than 5 different dishes. I love the mushrooms rice it’s bit bland but with salted baked chicken all together it balances out the flavor!! The appetizer calm’s quality is so good compared to other restaurants. The most surprising dish is the lamb with bean stick in pot. I’m not a big fan of lamb due to the “ weird” smell or taste but the one I had today doesn’t have any weird smell. The servers was so nice and helpful with the order. Definitely on my top 10 Cantonese restaurants in NYC!!
Coming from DC area for Chinese New Year celebration at NYC Chinatown, we had an excellent Chinese New Year eve dinner here on Feb 9! The place was booked up weeks ahead. But they managed to accommodate walk-in for our group of 6. All 9 dishes we ordered were exceptionally delicious. Due to high volume, they initially missed out our order of a whole stemmed fish which is very important/symbolic for Chinese New Year eve dinner. However within a minute, the staff made a maneuver to deliver a very deliciously cooked fish to our table. THANK YOU! My son in early 20s is usually very picky on food but he asked "how do they made it so fresh?". Highly recommend this restaurant and thank you for accommodating our memorable 2024 Chinese New Year eve dinner!!!
Definitely underrated restaurant! Every dish is a pleasant surprise! Strongly recommend the angus beef steak cooked with goose oil. The beef is so tender and literally just melted in the mouse. And all other dishes are super super delicious as well. Already have a few dishes that I would love to go back next time and give them a try.
One of the best Chinese restaurants I've been to in NYC, for food, service, and atmosphere. Usually it's just 1 or 2 out of 3. The perch in strawberry sauce was really tasty, as were all the other dishes we ordered.
This is an amazing Cantonese food restaurant. It is a little bit pricey but it’s totally worth it. You might think the dishes tasted a little blander than other Chinese restaurants but they did it intentionally to keep the original flavors of the food. The food was really well prepared and served in perfection condition. Everything is small portion so feel free to order a lot to try. It’s is truly a place you shouldn’t miss.
We had a great college reunion gathering event over there, the service was amazing, they took the items out for photos then took them in to equally divide them and serve. I especially love their Beijing duck beef bone marrow noodle and egg custard. Every dish did not disappoint. The price is on the high end but it was worth it.
August Gatherings is an upscale Chinese restaurant with Western flavors. I will give it to them, the food was great. It was definitely less traditional as they incorporated a lot of western flavors but the unagi rice bowl and mushroom rice bowl were amazing. The crispy rice mixed with fresh flavors like cucumber and garlic elevated the dish. The unagi felt very classic but the mushrooms were the star! There were so well flavored, so tender, and definitely my favorite dish here. The cabbage and char siu pork was also very flavorful, however for what they were, they were very expensive. The bone broth soup was also one of my favorites - definitely retained more of the traditional flavors without the fluff like truffles. Overall, the food was great but for what it is, quite expensive. The service is great, all of the staff helped divvy the soups/shared dishes, made sure we had enough serving spoons, etc. Wouldn’t come here again just because of pricing, but definitely worth a visit if you’re looking for a great take on modern Chinese food.
I would say the food is amazing and the service is also pretty good. This is my first time a server will ask if we need help taking a photo wish there’s more restaurant that can do that. I guess it’s due to the rainy day that make the restaurant look empty but everything is great just a bit too pricey🥲. I also got a card that give me $20 off if I spend $100 the next time we come in. The server also told us they are moving to a new location soon but it’s just cross the street😇
I recently tried August Gatherings富瑤, a modern Cantonese restaurant with stylish vibes and creative takes on classic dishes. The atmosphere feels a bit upscale but still relaxed, and the menu mixes familiar favorites like XO fried rice and salt-baked chicken with some more inventive plates. Many of the dishes were flavorful and well-balanced, and the service was friendly and professional — they really try to make the meal feel special. A couple of things to know: the space is on the smaller side and tends to get busy, so it’s a good idea to reserve ahead. Prices are on the higher end for Chinatown, and some dishes can be a little salty — but overall the food quality and experience made it worth it for me.
This was another highly recommended restaurant to try by my friends. When we went on a Friday night they were busy but it was about a 30minute wait which was reasonable. The food was authentic and tasty. It wasn’t oily. They had many options. I loved it!
I recently visited this restaurant with my family and the experience was really enjoyable. I’ve had a lot of food in Chinatown but you could feel the quality of the food was elevated here. My fav dish was probably the eel, which was sauced so well, and the durian pastry was also a pleasant surprise.
This is the sister branch of Yao which is located in the financial district. The menu is the same but the place is a lot smaller with alot less space between tables. Food is great. Not your typical old school Cantonese found in Chinatown. This is the modern and authentic version you would usually only find in Guangzhou. Loved every dish I ordered with the faves being the signature chicken and the rib eye
The restaurant is not very spacious and so clean compared to the other restaurants in Chinatown. We ordered slated-egg fried shrimp. It is one of best I have fried shrimp I have had in NYC. The other dish is fried oyster with veggies including asparagus and taro. It is also surprisingly tasty. We were also offered free dessert (red bean pasta). Service is excellent as well.
It was an amazing discovery as we just stopped by chance. We were really happy with the food, services, and atmosphere. The lunch menu had some of the common dishes but also a few unique ones. All the dishes we ordered were exceptionally tasty and authentic. We were so impressed that we ordered 5 additional dishes - and they even tasted good at home. I would recommend the soy sauce chicken - a common Chinatown Cantonese dish but this restaurant did an excellent job- juicy and not dry. Also, unusual for Chinatown, the services, decoration and atmosphere were outstanding in both Chinatown and NYC standards. Best of all, the price was great! Highly recommended.
Very decent canto food in nyc. The salted chicken was very tender and the taste is very authentic. Would definitely come again! The egg tarts are freshly cooked and not that sweat, very visually pleasing. The waiter asked us if we wanna take pictures of the chicken before they cut it, very considerate.
My first time here with a large family dinner. I like their decor and table arrangement. Good for a family of 12 or 4. Our family enjoyed a dozen of their delicious dishes, especially their Angus ribeye and the chicken with scallions on top. The chicken, though steamed, was much better than the typical garlic fried chicken.
The food at August is wonderful, dishes like the thinly sliced tofu soup are yummy and not easily available at other restaurants. The ginger scallion lobster it deliciously prepared, and comes with great soft flat noodles on the side. The pumpkin shaped dimsum with custard inside stood out from others. The scallops with clear noodles at the base were excellent. Service is attentive. I photos the restaurant looks more upscale than real life, but that does not take away from the great cooking.
Food 9/10 Because they don’t offer reservations for smaller parties, I got extremely lucky walking in, and immediately got seated with my dad. Comfort food. We ordered the 空心菜 water spinach vegetables, abalone and mushroom soup, eel tofu, and 梅子鸭 duck. I really enjoyed the duck and the eel tofu dishes, super flavorful and generous portions. Reasonably priced as well for the amount we ordered. We weren’t able to finish everything on the table, so we brought it home. This meal made me happy. Atmosphere /10 A classic Chinese restaurant, I love their main exterior design too. Service /10 A bustling location in Chinatown, you’ll hear Canto being thrown around. Everyone is really nice though and the speed of cooking is very respectable.
Solid place if you have a large group and want to do family-style lunch/dinner. Recommend reserving ahead since they can get pretty packed. The salted chicken is a must-order. The soup is pretty good too. The seafood fried rice (not pictured) is also a great option. The duck is not that great, a little too salty. Cash only I believe. The servers are kinda pushy aka keep pushing us to order more even tho we already ordered enough, so if you think you ordered enough already, ignore them.
My friends have recommended me Fuyao so many times and I finally tried it on my mom’s birthday. The food is truly delicious and the service is impeccable!! I’d 200% recommend Angus beef and the assorted mushroom stone bowl rice. They’re so flavorful and seasoned to the point:) it is authentic Chinese (Cantonese) with new elements for a twist. cash is recommended because they give you 10% off!
Lobster with flat rice noodle 5/5⭐️ I think this dish is really great, the lobster is fresh, but the rice noodle is just a bit thick. Overall it’s amazing. Mushroom rice 4/5⭐️ I like the dish, but just need a tiny bit of flavor more. Green onion oil fish 5/5⭐️ overall really fresh fish, and the sauce is really great. Shredded Tofu soup 3/5⭐️ don’t like the soup too much, I like clear soup better than the thick soup with lots of starch. Overall great experience, but I would complain one thing about the service that I felt rushed when I was dinning. The waiter immediately take off all dishes even tho we were still kinda working on it. This is a common thing you see in Chinatown restaurants 😹 just wish it to be improved in the future.
One of the best Cantonese restaurants in the tri-state area. Chef Kenny mixes in modern cooking techniques and quality ingredients from around the world and incorporates them into traditional Cantonese dishes. As a result, the taste is something you cannot find in other Cantonese restaurants. It is almost like I'm at a fancy French restaurant but I'm actually having Chinese food. Service is very attentive and they have a decent wine list. With quality food there will be a higher price point compared to other Cantonese restaurants but it is totally worth the cost.
I was blown away by the duck dish! It was incredibly tasty and cooked to perfection. Although the restaurant is a bit on the pricier side, the quality of the food makes it a worthwhile splurge. This wasn't my first time here, but it was my first visit to their new location, and I'm happy to report that the standards are as high as ever. The egg custard was particularly awesome, rich and creamy with a perfect sweetness. While most of the dishes were excellent, the durian pastry was unfortunately a letdown. Despite that one small disappointment, I would still rate my experience a solid 95 out of 100.
Have been hearing how good this place is for a very long time, and finally give it a try. I’m not always a Cantonese sweet and savory flavor all the time, but this place is good. The pig feet is surprisingly refreshing, and the egg tart is a must have. I can tell the waiter is a bit pushy on trying to get you to order the expensive stuff but you can always say no. A good dinning experience overall!
The food was delightful. Each dish was well presented and very tasty. The servers were friendly and attentive. We ordered around 8 dishes to share among 6 people. The squirrelfish was a bit dry but other than that all dishes really exceeded my expectations. We did not like being sternly warned about the “time limit” and the overall rushed feel. The food was worthy of a nicer and more relaxed ambiance and we did not get that here.
Food is pretty good! Plum duck: 2/5 I’m used to savory roasted duck; this is sweet and a bit tangy from the plum flavor. Snow pea shoots with garlic: 5/5 a classic; it’s good Eggplant with fish and black bean sauce: 5/5 it’s good flavor; a bit too salty Amoy style mei fun: 5/5 classic; it’s got all the stuff! It’s good! Seafood and tofu soup: 5/5 my fav from all this.
Two Cantonese friends recommended this place to me and I could see the reason. It's a ambitious place with a large selection of dishes. The price range is $18 for a appetizer, $18 for veggies, $30 for a regular entree dish, and $40-100+ for a big portion meat entree. The BBQ roast pork (appetizer) was amazing and the other dishes were also nice. I just didn't feel like the price was justified - I can find a better bistro or Italian place at this price range. The interior was a bit outdated at this range. Having said that, I think it's great to have more expensive Chinese restaurants to show case the cuisine. ps. there are some weekday only inexpensive dishes, definitely worth trying out.
蛮正宗的粤菜Authentic Cantonese dishes with with good service and ambience! Definitely bring cash because they have a 10% discount 菌菇饭 | Mushrooms in Hot Pot ($32) Love the strong aroma of the fresh mushrooms, it’s such a unique dish (I never tried it in Beijing)! The rice was soaked in the aroma and I loved how it had crispy bits from the hot stone plate (我超爱锅巴的). The server mixed the rice for us and the serving size was quite big. Still felt like I can make it on my own tho. Flavors weren’t surprisingly good 红烧黄花鱼| Braised Yellow Croacker ($48) 味道很丰富吃就是有点太齁了. 🥲Flavors were rich and on point, just that the fish and salt were a bit too salty. Fish meat was not that tender but loved the crispy, thick skin. A little weird that they added bacon bits to the fish tho, made it even more salty. Loved the flavourful mushroom and soft rice cake sides that came with the dish. Overall these dishes were good but not amazing or surprisingly good to be worth this price.
Their food is really good and delicious. I think they cook the best Chinese dishes in NYC. Their servers also provided very good service. But they need to be trained how to serve wine. They poured the entire bottle of wine for 4 of us at once. For such a restaurant I hope they use table cloth instead of one time disposable plastic.
I would give 3 1/2 stars for the food. It's a small place, so quite crowded. We came here for Chinese new year eve, we love the food so much, we came back 2 days later. It is pricier than the other Chinese restaurants in Chinatown but it's worth it. My friend came visit from HK, and she praised the food as well.
Food taste okay, but definitely overpriced, especially that chicken rlly surprised me, 37 dollar and it’s only half of a chicken, why did they put such a small dish into a massive pot to show? Highly recommend pings for the garlic crispy chicken, same serving size, better flavor, half the price at only 18 dollars, this chicken is quite disappointing since there r no flavor other than salt, the steak was a bit too sweet but it doesn’t taste bad. Everything else was about average compared to other restaurant in China town that’s 5-10 dollar cheaper per dish.
Overpriced, hit or miss dishes with variable quality but one of the most inventive menus in New York's Chinatown. I came with my family for dinner on a Saturday night after hearing good things. Despite having made a reservation, we still had to wait ten minutes. The place was packed, so I would recommend calling ahead. At first they seated us in this tiny table in the corner right under the AC, and we were freezing, so they moved us to a much bigger table in the middle of the dining room. The service is outstanding, especially for Chinatown. However the food is not all that good. - Wild Octopus with Teriyaki Sauce ($35). Soft on the inside and crunchy on the outside, but overly salty and a very small portion for the price. - Grilled Berkshire Pork Belly ($18). This was too tough and hard to chew, no good. - Baby Spinach with Bacon ($19). This was good but also a tiny portion for the price. - Zucchini Eel Rice ($38). This was my favorite dish of the night. There were four long strips of eel cooked very nicely, and the bottom of the rice was nice and crusty. It was comparable to the eel rice I've had in Japan. Also, they charge taxes and calculate tip on the "complimentary" appetizer and dessert, which was also lukewarm, literally and figuratively. That means you're actually paying for it. We ended up spending around $140 for four people.
The place wasn’t busy but it took for ever to get a glass of water or a drink. A Cantonese friend had been wanting to try this place since he had eaten at its sister restaurant. Everything was so so. The warm duck dish was so so, the chicken dish wasn’t even so so but it was edible. The dish we thought was the best and was pretty good was the fried green beans. My Cantonese guest was disappointed since he recommended AUGUST GATHERINGS and in his words- there was nothing August about it. Also they need better napkins for greasy food.
Food is good. But we got the beggar chicken and it came out drenched in starchy sauce, which is not pictured in the image, nor mentioned in the description, and we were never asked about it. We got it before and it didn’t come out with all that sauce. For such an expensive dish, I would have expected proper expectations to be set before deciding for us. We got served something we didn’t order. Everyone in the table was surprised, and not in a good way. It was a major letdown. We visited multiple time before and I’m now questioning whether to return or not.
Very over-rated cantonese food, mediocre food quality, extremely terrible & rude services. However, their marketing is really good, anyone not from NYC seems to heard about this place.
