Avis sur August Gatherings Albee Square
I recently tried August Gatherings富瑤, a modern Cantonese restaurant with stylish vibes and creative takes on classic dishes. The atmosphere feels a bit upscale but still relaxed, and the menu mixes familiar favorites like XO fried rice and salt-baked chicken with some more inventive plates. Many of the dishes were flavorful and well-balanced, and the service was friendly and professional — they really try to make the meal feel special. A couple of things to know: the space is on the smaller side and tends to get busy, so it’s a good idea to reserve ahead. Prices are on the higher end for Chinatown, and some dishes can be a little salty — but overall the food quality and experience made it worth it for me.
This was another highly recommended restaurant to try by my friends. When we went on a Friday night they were busy but it was about a 30minute wait which was reasonable. The food was authentic and tasty. It wasn’t oily. They had many options. I loved it!
I recently visited this restaurant with my family and the experience was really enjoyable. I’ve had a lot of food in Chinatown but you could feel the quality of the food was elevated here. My fav dish was probably the eel, which was sauced so well, and the durian pastry was also a pleasant surprise.
This is the sister branch of Yao which is located in the financial district. The menu is the same but the place is a lot smaller with alot less space between tables. Food is great. Not your typical old school Cantonese found in Chinatown. This is the modern and authentic version you would usually only find in Guangzhou. Loved every dish I ordered with the faves being the signature chicken and the rib eye
The restaurant is not very spacious and so clean compared to the other restaurants in Chinatown. We ordered slated-egg fried shrimp. It is one of best I have fried shrimp I have had in NYC. The other dish is fried oyster with veggies including asparagus and taro. It is also surprisingly tasty. We were also offered free dessert (red bean pasta). Service is excellent as well.
It was an amazing discovery as we just stopped by chance. We were really happy with the food, services, and atmosphere. The lunch menu had some of the common dishes but also a few unique ones. All the dishes we ordered were exceptionally tasty and authentic. We were so impressed that we ordered 5 additional dishes - and they even tasted good at home. I would recommend the soy sauce chicken - a common Chinatown Cantonese dish but this restaurant did an excellent job- juicy and not dry. Also, unusual for Chinatown, the services, decoration and atmosphere were outstanding in both Chinatown and NYC standards. Best of all, the price was great! Highly recommended.
Very decent canto food in nyc. The salted chicken was very tender and the taste is very authentic. Would definitely come again! The egg tarts are freshly cooked and not that sweat, very visually pleasing. The waiter asked us if we wanna take pictures of the chicken before they cut it, very considerate.
My first time here with a large family dinner. I like their decor and table arrangement. Good for a family of 12 or 4. Our family enjoyed a dozen of their delicious dishes, especially their Angus ribeye and the chicken with scallions on top. The chicken, though steamed, was much better than the typical garlic fried chicken.
The food at August is wonderful, dishes like the thinly sliced tofu soup are yummy and not easily available at other restaurants. The ginger scallion lobster it deliciously prepared, and comes with great soft flat noodles on the side. The pumpkin shaped dimsum with custard inside stood out from others. The scallops with clear noodles at the base were excellent. Service is attentive. I photos the restaurant looks more upscale than real life, but that does not take away from the great cooking.
Food 9/10 Because they don’t offer reservations for smaller parties, I got extremely lucky walking in, and immediately got seated with my dad. Comfort food. We ordered the 空心菜 water spinach vegetables, abalone and mushroom soup, eel tofu, and 梅子鸭 duck. I really enjoyed the duck and the eel tofu dishes, super flavorful and generous portions. Reasonably priced as well for the amount we ordered. We weren’t able to finish everything on the table, so we brought it home. This meal made me happy. Atmosphere /10 A classic Chinese restaurant, I love their main exterior design too. Service /10 A bustling location in Chinatown, you’ll hear Canto being thrown around. Everyone is really nice though and the speed of cooking is very respectable.
Solid place if you have a large group and want to do family-style lunch/dinner. Recommend reserving ahead since they can get pretty packed. The salted chicken is a must-order. The soup is pretty good too. The seafood fried rice (not pictured) is also a great option. The duck is not that great, a little too salty. Cash only I believe. The servers are kinda pushy aka keep pushing us to order more even tho we already ordered enough, so if you think you ordered enough already, ignore them.
My friends have recommended me Fuyao so many times and I finally tried it on my mom’s birthday. The food is truly delicious and the service is impeccable!! I’d 200% recommend Angus beef and the assorted mushroom stone bowl rice. They’re so flavorful and seasoned to the point:) it is authentic Chinese (Cantonese) with new elements for a twist. cash is recommended because they give you 10% off!
Lobster with flat rice noodle 5/5⭐️ I think this dish is really great, the lobster is fresh, but the rice noodle is just a bit thick. Overall it’s amazing. Mushroom rice 4/5⭐️ I like the dish, but just need a tiny bit of flavor more. Green onion oil fish 5/5⭐️ overall really fresh fish, and the sauce is really great. Shredded Tofu soup 3/5⭐️ don’t like the soup too much, I like clear soup better than the thick soup with lots of starch. Overall great experience, but I would complain one thing about the service that I felt rushed when I was dinning. The waiter immediately take off all dishes even tho we were still kinda working on it. This is a common thing you see in Chinatown restaurants 😹 just wish it to be improved in the future.
One of the best Cantonese restaurants in the tri-state area. Chef Kenny mixes in modern cooking techniques and quality ingredients from around the world and incorporates them into traditional Cantonese dishes. As a result, the taste is something you cannot find in other Cantonese restaurants. It is almost like I'm at a fancy French restaurant but I'm actually having Chinese food. Service is very attentive and they have a decent wine list. With quality food there will be a higher price point compared to other Cantonese restaurants but it is totally worth the cost.
Their food is really good and delicious. I think they cook the best Chinese dishes in NYC. Their servers also provided very good service. But they need to be trained how to serve wine. They poured the entire bottle of wine for 4 of us at once. For such a restaurant I hope they use table cloth instead of one time disposable plastic.
The place wasn’t busy but it took for ever to get a glass of water or a drink. A Cantonese friend had been wanting to try this place since he had eaten at its sister restaurant. Everything was so so. The warm duck dish was so so, the chicken dish wasn’t even so so but it was edible. The dish we thought was the best and was pretty good was the fried green beans. My Cantonese guest was disappointed since he recommended AUGUST GATHERINGS and in his words- there was nothing August about it. Also they need better napkins for greasy food.
Food is good. But we got the beggar chicken and it came out drenched in starchy sauce, which is not pictured in the image, nor mentioned in the description, and we were never asked about it. We got it before and it didn’t come out with all that sauce. For such an expensive dish, I would have expected proper expectations to be set before deciding for us. We got served something we didn’t order. Everyone in the table was surprised, and not in a good way. It was a major letdown. We visited multiple time before and I’m now questioning whether to return or not.
