Good traditional Irish pub . Love how they serve Margaritas- in a solid beer glass. Prices are great and if you drink enough you might get lucky and get extra drinks for free . Also their signature burger with fries is fantastic . Atmosphere is cozy and staff is cool.
After only ever stopping in for beer when I traveled through NYC, I finally sat down and had a meal when I was in town to visit Manhattan. Cheeseburger (indeed the best burger in NYC) and the pastrami were top notch. Tater tots and french fries were also very good. As far as beer goes, try the McManus Ale!!
I can't help but return to this restaurant. This spot gets all the details right. Service quality was satisfactory. Their portions ensure you leave full and satisfied. I'm completely taken by this place and plan many return visits !
(Update after the owner’s response: I was wrong. As a New Yorker, why I didn’t expect to pay tax is a mystery even to me. My apologies to the establishment. I’ve corrected the star count and left the original review below as a small monument to my - hopefully momentary - lapse in reason.) We enjoyed our visit and will return. On the plus side: The best Guinness I’ve had in a long time. The atmosphere was great. My Pop Pop’s Top Shelf Award-Winning Cheeseburger was excellent—likely the best I’ve had, though I should’ve ordered medium, not well-done. On the downside: My wife’s Reuben pastrami was a bit too sour, and there was no choice of bread on the menu or offered. The bill was hard to read and stapled to a receipt kept by the pub, so we didn’t get a proper copy. We ordered $36 worth of food, one Guinness, and one glass of water, but the total was $51—meaning either the Guinness cost $15 or we were charged for the water. The menu didn’t list drink prices, which felt lacking in transparency. It’s not a major issue, but it keeps this from being a five-star experience, at least in retrospect. And the idea of Guinness - albeit well pulled - being $15 feels a bit steep. Overall, a very good place worth visiting. It’s certainly not just another famous New York “filming location” like the Seinfeld diner — it’s a genuine, quaint Irish pub with real character and soul.
Lovely place with wonderful service and food! We are so glad we found it while walking in the city on a beautiful December day. We had the Reuben/Tot special and it was delicious...we will be back soon!
You can feel the history as soon as you walk in. I got there a few minutes after the opened at and the locals were already crowding in and everybody knew everyone else and it was a nice respite from the craziness outside. I had Pop Pop's top shelf burger and I would totally get it again. I chose this place because of a scene from Highlander that was filmed there but I would go back just because of who they are. Love it.
Just a great neighborhood pub. Close to 100 years old I think. And for good reason. The staff is awesome and so are the numerous regulars. Always friendly and familiar faces in the joint. People really love the signature burger - the pop pop I think it is - but I tend to opt for the classic bacon cheeseburger. Steak fries are potentially polarizing - I cannot understand why - but that’s your default side. Can also opt for tots or onion rings. Have a nice potato salad too - really nice if they are just making it and you can get it while still warm or room temp (that’s a southern thing). It looks like they sell a lot of wings but I have to say the chicken fingers may be the best out there. Kids or no kids the fingers are tip top. Rumor has it his eminence Cardinal Dolan has been known to take a pint or two on a random afternoon as well. All the other celebrity sightings tend to be nonchalant affairs. Enjoy.
Both the cooks and servers deliver the same quality with each visit. Team members deliver care comparable to their culinary mastery. Peter McManus Cafe is perfect for dining with friends. Their portions satisfy at prices that are fair. The restaurant provides unmatched quality for the price.
The aesthetics here deserve recognition. This place deserves acknowledgment for service excellence. Their cooking style is innovative and each plate offers distinctive tastes. Peter McManus Cafe offered a quality dining time. This place demonstrates remarkable consistency.
The gorgeous venue sets high expectations the food meets. Restaurant staff maintain quality standards. This restaurant delivers cuisine of superior quality. Their decor had personality. People who welcome food experiments will enjoy this spot.
My sons were coming here regularly leisure during Covid and dragged me along a couple of years ago. I just love it. It’s about as old school New York dive bar as it gets, but the food is great, the service is fantastic and the pricing is right. I love coming here.. Our server tonight was Oscar, who is a really good representative of the place.
Here you can feel the atmosphere of old New York, brutal and cozy at the same time but yet attractive. The food is delicious and the selection of beers is large. The interior is atmospherically "tired" from the multitude of stories told and hectoliters of beer drunk. Ohh and if you're naughty there's a baseball bat by the whisky bottles. it looks used...
We were walking from ground zero towards Central Park, we have stopped here for a small rest, the pub was really great, cozy. I liked really the vintage style of the interior decoration. It gives you the feeling of the history of New York, the barman and the lady were really Nice, polite and warm. We get biers and some snacks, the chicken wings were really nice. I had really a great experience and feeling here thanks lovely people.
I visited this family owned establishment for the first time today. I just love these old fashioned Irish Pubs that serve not only great drinks, but great food as well. My Margarita was absolutely beautiful in every sense of the word. My Classic Cheeseburger was cooked to perfection. Even though it was well done, the wonderful juices just flowed from the burger with every bite. The overall appearance is a bit worn and outdated, but that doesn't take away from the outstanding service you receive from the staff. I will definitely be back again the next time I am in the area.
Nice size Bar/Restaurant. I like the Old Timey feel of the place. The prices are very reasonable. I had the Chicken Fingers, which were very dry but I liked the sauces it came with. It seems like a neighborhood bar but one where everyone is welcomed. Meg is a good bartender and she's very nice and welcoming. I would come back but I would order something else.
Sometimes I take walkabouts in Manhattan and seek out obscure out of the way places which tend to have better meals then the ones on more popular routes. I have to say I did like the look of the place (Old style both in and out) and the quiet atmosphere due to a rain storm. The bartender told me the place is usually more lively but I liked it just the same. The food was very good (Cheese Burger, Steak Fries. Coke) and the staff attentive. A favorite new spot to go to on a rainy day.
Bartender was lovely. Nice old NYC pub vibe. I ordered the award winning burger. It was too salty and just fine.
I'm African American and in the 80s, I went into this bar and found myself talking to an inebriated white female, 2 white bar patrons summoned me into the men's room and threatened me with physical violence if I continued talking to this woman. They claimed I was taking advantage. Basically they did not want any folks of color especially men taking to white females. I will NEVER forget that incident! These places want to cater to white folks.
No one ever came by to greet us or take our order. Several staff members walked past our table multiple times without saying anything. After waiting about 10 minutes with no acknowledgment, we decided to leave. As bad as service has gotten since the pandemic, I can’t remember the last time I actually had to walk out of a place because of it. It was a disappointing experience, especially since the place wasn’t that busy. We don’t recommend going here, but if you do, maybe sit at the bar so the bartender has to serve you.
