the food was great and definitely worth the drive i will be coming back and recommend it to anyone who is in the area looking for great place to eat the atmosphere was great and really put the cherry on top
Great food! I recommend trying the fried yuca with the cabbage topping. Very friendly staff!
It’s a hidden gem it’s really good food and pretty quick as well would recommend to go for some non expensive take out food and also has a variety of foods
This place is really unexpectedly great. Large portions of tasty, very freshly-made Mexican and Tex-Mex fare, lots of options for vegetarians (and some for vegans!), and very friendly people running the place. Absolutely recommended for a quick meal, or for take-out, which I think most folks opt for, but they miss the great selection of soccer games. (Yes, the place is small but it's lovely to sit for a quick meal too!)
Best vegan mexican food I’ve had in Boston…maybe ever. In the vegan bowl, the vegetables were each perfectly seasoned and tasty on their own. The yuca side with cabbage and tomatoes was also perfectly seasoned and tasty. And not over priced for once too (Boston fast casual can get way over)! Shows that with some care and seasoning you don’t need to add all sorts of fake meats and fake cheese to have vegan food taste good. 10/10!
I have had almost all varieties of tacos here and a few of their sides and I love them all. My favorites are probably the Birria and Al Pastor Tacos. You really can't go wrong with any of their tacos though. When I had a Bad day and need good food to cheer me up, this is where I go.
Awesome new spot in JP! We ordered the birria quesadilla and a steak burrito, both were absolutely delicious! Bring your appetite because the portions are generous! (The burrito was legit the size of a small baby!!) The guacamole was fresh and perfect! They had an issue with their grubhub tablet and apologized and not only promptly started to work on our order but gave us a Mexican fruit cup for the inconvenience. We can’t wait to be back to try more the menu!
For an early weekday dinner, I stopped by Viva Taco. It’s easy to miss in an area replete with Latin American restaurants, though its location on a small intersection and its brightly painted exterior helped it stand out. The establishment itself doesn’t have much space—just a small counter with bar seating by the window that fits about three people, and a single table that seats maybe six. It’s definitely more of a take-out spot. I had the place to myself, so I ordered a chicharrón burrito ($13) and fried yuca ($7). I didn’t expect to finish it all. The burrito came out in less than five minutes. The rice was well-salted and flavorful, the plantains added a surprising sweetness, and the chicharrones were satisfyingly crispy. The pico de gallo tasted extra fresh, and the tomato salsa had that slight grit you only find in freshly made versions. This burrito was also loaded—I was full after finishing it. One small nitpick: I would have preferred a pressed tortilla for a bit more heat and structure. About halfway through my burrito, the yuca fries arrived. They came topped with shredded lettuce and more of that fresh tomato salsa. The portion was generous here as well. None of that “five sticks of yuca for $10 at the upscale Latin American place” nonsense. Viva Taco is neighborhood comfort food at its finest—quick and filling without sacrificing flavor, and at a reasonable price point. It might not be perfect, but it’s exactly the sort of place I wish every community had.
The pupusa was fine, but I thought it was extremely weird they wouldn't give me a free cup of water. (I understand this isn't the norm outside the US, but I really think it's pretty much a given in the US that you get free water with a purchased meal) They had cups, they had tap water, why on earth would I pay for bottled water in Boston? Anyway, this is my feedback for them. Thanks
Ok so it's a nice small place, pupusa was great in flavor and cooked crispy on the outside just a little too thin, I had the al pastor tacos they were crispy, double tortilla, plenty of meat but no flavor. Horchata was just the way I like it and we also had a shrimp burrito we liked it but way too many veggies it over-powered the shrimp, maybe more shrimp less veggies or maybe no veggies. Besides that I have not tried anything else.
Food is ok -- I've only had the salads though. Note that this review is based on general service, not the food. I tried to order online on 10/20/2025 but their system kept declining my card so I ordered over the phone and piad in person via card. I checked my bank statement later and was charged 4 times for one salad. I called to have the charges reversed and the worker who answered told me she did not speak English and no one working spoke English either, so she ended up hanging up on me. She wasnt particularly rude, she just generally seemed like she didnt understand what I needed. I understand there is a big population of Spanish-speakers so it makes sense to have Spanish-speaking staff. However, it's unacceptable not to have at least one English-speaking or bi-lingual English/Spanish speaking worker on site during business hours for customers who don't speak Spanish, considering that there is a big population of English speaking people in the neighborhood. There are at least 3 other nearby Mexican restaurants with staff who speak multiple languages. Hopefully Viva Taco will follow suit.
One of the great things about tacos is that you can order as many as you like. Unfortunately Viva Taco does not participate in this part of taco culture. Would you like two tacos for a small meal or a large snack? Sorry, try elsewhere. Tacos here are served only on orders of 3.
I went on 12/10/24. Nice but people they have cold air blowing in December making it uncomfortably cold and the food tastes bad. We had a steak quesadilla and steak bowl. The quesadilla was ok but tasted like they were using sharp cheddar. The salsa tasted expired. The steak in the bowl also tasted expired.
ordered through doordash and ordered pork pupusas they weren't that it smelled weird, and they put potatoes in the filling Ive never seen that before, I'd prefer just meet, towards the end my last pupusas because i shared with family i bit into one and found a piece of plastic in my food, also my tomato sauce smelled and tasted expired was really bad, others have also said the same in the reviews, so please try fixing how you guys make pupusas altogether and change ingredients might help. I think i would buy from here again just not the pupusas, maybe trying other things it will be better
