Early weekend dinner for a party of 4 plus a fur kid. Quickly found a patio seating and started with non veggie platter of roast chicken, samosa, minced lamb, and battered chix nuggets. Then enjoyed shared plates of lamb korma, vindaloo, tofu curry and chicken masala with steamed basmati rice and hot garlc butter naan. Spice level of medium was just right and each serving was delicious and not greasy. Mango lassi and pistachio smoothie were refreshing. Service was attentive and prompt. Had a great get together dinner.
Met some friends here for the weekend lunch buffet, and we all enjoyed it! I have a dairy allergy, so they walked me through the buffet to let me know my options. The staff was very knowledgeable and attentive. It was a good deal too!
A True Taste of India at Mela Indian Cuisine! 🇺🇸🇮🇳 I recently visited Mela Indian Cuisine with my husband, and it was such a wonderful experience! The food is incredibly authentic it truly reminded us of the vibrant street food and dhaba style dishes from India. We started with pani poori and pav bhaji, and both were bursting with flavor just like what you'd find on the streets of Mumbai. For our mains, we enjoyed chicken tikka masala, goat curry, a variety of veg curries, biryani, and restaurant style kababs. Every dish was cooked to perfection with rich spices and bold flavors. The atmosphere is cozy, the staff is friendly, and the food speaks for itself. If you're looking for real Indian taste from street snacks to hearty curries Mela is the place to go. We’ll definitely be returning!
I visited Mela Restaurant with five friends this weekend and tried their weekend unlimited buffet and wow, what an experience! Hands down, the best Indian buffet in Boston at the most affordable price. From the moment we stepped in, the aroma of authentic spices welcomed us. The buffet had a great variety 4–5 delicious appetizers like idly, veg samosa, chicken kebab, and spring rolls each item fresh and full of flavor. For the mains, goat curry, chicken tikka masala, baingan bhartha, Aloo cholay, Paneer Saag, and chicken tandoori were absolutely top notch. You could taste the love in every bite it honestly reminded me of my mother’s cooking. The surprise addition of pav bhaji and pani puri made me feel like I was back in India for lunch. And just when we thought it couldn’t get better, the dessert section had gulab jamun and rice pudding (kheer), the perfect sweet ending to a heavenly meal. Whether you’re an Indian food lover or trying it for the first time, Mela is a must visit. It’s not just a meal it’s a trip to India on a plate. Highly recommend!
Visited Mela for a delightful Indian feast, and it did not disappoint! We tried the samosa chaat, paneer chili, dal makhani, and paneer makhani—all bursting with authentic flavors and spices. The naan was perfectly fluffy, and each curry had a rich, comforting taste. To top it off, we absolutely loved the house-made mango ice cream and the badam kulfi, which added a sweet and refreshing end to the meal. A perfect spot for anyone craving a true taste of India! #MelaBoston #IndianFood #FoodieAdventures #BostonEats #SpiceLovers #VegetarianFood #MangoIceCream #BadamKulfi
This is definitely a cute and cozy Indian restaurant in Tremont street. Delicious food and all ingredients are fresh and you can really get the fragnance of the fresh spices . This is only one of our fav Indian restaurant in Boston. I highly recommend this place if you in Tremont street and would like to taste a good Indian food !!
Great spot located in the south end on Tremont St. I haven't been to many Indian restaurants so I didn't have any expectations walking in. But I'm really glad my girlfriend suggested this place. The food was delicious and service was great. Liked having the table next to the window to have a view of the neighborhood while eating delicious food.
I used to work here as a server 10 years ago. When I visited Boston a couple of weeks ago, I decided to come here for lunch with two of my close friends who were also my Mela colleagues back then. We ordered the non-vegetarian platter, butter chicken, chicken korma, mustard lamb chop, and some naan. All the foods were fresh and delicious. I am glad they still have the tamarind Margarita on the menu which happens to be one of my favorite drinks of all time. Not a lot of restaurants that I know of serve this type of margarita. I happened to drink two of those during this trip. It is sweet, refreshing, and gives you that buzz that you are looking for. Lychee martini is another cool drink that they serve here. For our dessert, we got some kulfis and a coconut sorbet (which is actually served in a coconut shell...mind-blowing, right?). We were glad to see Jatinder Paji (who used to be the manager when we used to work there) still running this place. He came every now and then to check on us and also agreed to take some pictures. He also introduced his daughter who was helping him in the restaurant. Jatinder Paji is a nice human being and we are glad that his daughter was very friendly as well. This place brings back so many memories and will always have a special place in my heart. I am glad the quality of the food has stayed the same over the years. Keep it up, Mela Fam!
Mela has the best affordable meal combos AND a lunch buffet if you want some yummy Indian food. We got the non-vegetarian Mela special dinner for two for only $56 TOTAL (the vegetarian special is $45). It comes with a ton of food like Mulligatawny soup, meat samosa, 2 classic curry entrees, Tandoori Mixed Grill, basmati rice, naan, raita, and choice of desert. They also have a lunch buffet in January from Mon-Fri for $13 and on the weekends for $15! This is easily one of the best specials in the city.
Mela was a great place to go to for that Indian food craving with a friend! The staff was very friendly and the food was absolutely tasty and hit the spot. The ambiance was delightful and relaxed. 10/10 would recommend!
Very nice and cheap Indian buffet. Their garlic naan is really good
The food was delicious. Enjoyed having the lunch buffet and dinner while in Boston. Super attentive staff very clean place.
Food is delicious, good serving size, Lassi and was amazing. I wish there was a little more space, it was easy to bump into other guests.
Buffet is quite reasonable!!! Would definitely recommend it if you are missing indian food. My recommendation is lamb curry
I came here for the first time today for lunch. this is the cutest place! I'm not entirely sure, but it looks family owned. my server was really nice, and even fought off a bee that was bothering me 😅 my food was delicious! I tried to eat all of it but I was just too full. my only suggestion for next time would be that I had ordered my food one medium and one hot. I'm a fan of spicy food and both were just mild. don't get me wrong the flavors was spot on! just would have preferred it a little hotter. I will for sure be back even if its to order take out!
Great food. Generous portion of rice. I got the lamb coconut curry and it was delicious. The meat is so tender and the sauce has plenty of flavors.
Enjoyed a delicious dinner here! We sat outside, which was very socially distanced. They also had heaters which were needed on a chilly night. Would come back if I were in Boston again!
I have been here twice for the weekend buffet. There is a variety of options for appetizers, main course, sides and the taste is nice and suited for Americans (very mild spicy). Service is very good and ambience is great.
Not only is the food amazing, but the servers are also great as well! While dining outside we witnessed a minor bike accident on the street in front of Mela, and two servers jumped into action. One bought the woman water and the other took her bike out of the street and onto the sidewalk, and both stayed with her until sure she was okay. A round of applause for these two gentlemen!
I love this place - I’m not an expert but when my wife and I have a hankering for a good curry and naan night, this has been our go-to for many years. Thank you Mela!
I went to Mela Modern Indian Cuisine in Boston with three of my friends and we had an amazing time. The Chicken Tikka Masala was rich and flavorful, the Butter Chicken was creamy and perfectly cooked, the Lamb Curry was hearty, and the Lamb Korma with lamb chops was simply outstanding. Their vegetarian and vegan options were equally impressive, with plenty of gluten free choices. We especially loved the Tofu Coco Masala which was creamy and full of flavor, and the Tadka Daal which was comforting and perfectly spiced. There are so many great dishes for every preference. The drinks were just as great. The Mela Gin and Tonic was refreshing, the Anarkali and Tamarind Margarita were unique and tasty, and the Mango Lassi and Pistachio Shake were smooth and delicious. We also enjoyed Taj Mahal beer, Kingfisher, and a fun Hypnotic Cosmo. The waiters were very friendly, responsive, and fast which made the whole experience even better. The food, drinks, and service together made it a perfect night. Highly recommend this spot if you’re in Boston 🍗🍸🍹💯 😘
Exceptional Indian cuisine with comprehensive bar options! My espresso martini was wonderful and dh had a house gin and tonic that was incredibly flavorful. Extensive wine menu which is surprising at such a reasonably priced menu. Only $56 for the 5 couse meat meal for two. We will be back!
I went for the weekday lunch buffet and the service was good. However, the food wasn’t hot and there wasn’t much variety. For example there were no samosa and rolls. The restaurant has potential, but it needs some improvements to be better. Thank you!!
Mela Modern Indian Cuisine is undoubtedly one of the finest Indian Cuisine restaurants in Boston. I tried the buffet and was impressed with the taste and the options offered. I especially like the hospitality of the staff which I felt was friendly and courteous. The space crunch is indeed a setback which could be improved with a little tweak in the furniture. Food was delicious and could have been better but so far it is one of the best Paneer I have tasted. The owner was good and allowed to stay for long. I would recommend making a reservation for dine in which would surely save you an hour or two.
We were looking for a quick dinner after arriving at Logan airport from a long trip, we found this gem. We didn't have a reservation, were seated right away but we definitely recommended it. As soon as I opened the door, the aroma from all the spices were incredible. The food was incredible, service was very prompt. The lamb coconut curry dish was amazing, it was nice and hot, the garlic and onion naan and the mango lassi were good. We were seated in front of the window and it was just a beautiful feeling. I would say it's a tight place but there is plenty of space, a very cozy restaurant, the chairs were a bit uncomfortable but suitable. The atmosphere was very peaceful, relaxing, everyone enjoying the moment. I can't wait to come back. Came back once again, did not disappoint me. I loved the service, the food was amazing.
Beautiful restaurant interior. Excellent Indian food and pistachio shake. My favorite dishes are the lamb entrées, especially the lamb vindaloo. Staff will replenish plain rice for free if you ask, but it was hard to get a hold of server. Service was not attentive. One time, several months ago, a customer at the table next to mine (a large group) chastised the server for not checking on them during the meal or refilling the water glasses. I've been coming to this restaurant for more than 10 years, but service has noticeably lapsed since 2020. Food is still delicious, but please improve the service.
Great spot for a quick bite, lots of variety on the menu, will come back for the weekend buffet!
The buffet was good, limited items But worth the money
Came here for late lunch. The restaurant was empty except us. However, staff was happily to serve us. Great food and atmosphere.
Great service, delicious and fresh food. Enjoyed lunch buffet. They need to add a fish fish in buffet.
AYCE was tasty and the limited offerings let me try a little bit of everything. Good service. Interior is a bit cramped and stuffy though.
All you can eat option with affordable price. As an eco conscious person, one huge thing Mela wants me to come back is that they use real cutleries not single used spoons, tissue, cups and bowls if you dine in compared to other all you can eat buffet resturants. Keep up the good works Mela.
Went there on Monday night, place was not too busy but a steady stream. About half full all the time which may be due to the proximity to 2 major colleges in town. The Good: Nice ambiance and atmosphere, quick service, great staff (college kids). Good amount of menu choices to satiate most palates. Don't recall seeing South Indian fare on the menu. Food - Breads (Naan, Kulcha) were the best among all courses. Vegetarian Entrees could have been better. Malai kofta was more like veg pakora in a very tomato dominant gravy, didn't give the "Malai" feel of the dish. Okra seemed made with frozen stuff. My son loved the butter chicken and polished off the whole thing. Dessert: Chocolate souffle was frozen stiff like icecream. Not good: Parking....luckily I was able to snag a spot in front as there was a Construction vehicle only sign banning other vehicles there which was only until 4 pm.
Cozy and busy. The restaurant had an offer $52 dinner for two if it’s meat and $45 if it’s vegetarian. We went for the meat options. The menu was endless with lots of choices between curry , grill , and Biryanis. Our starters were lentils soup and meat samosas with spicy sauce and tamarind sauce, loved the sauces. However the lentil soup lacked the flavor and need to be thicker. We had two carry the chicken butter an d lamb roush Rogan, the lamb dish was bland but the butter chicken had a good test to it. The mixed grill was dry specially the chicken and came with white rice. The set menu came with a dessert however none of the staff care to serve and they were busy chatting to each other even though the costumers cleared and only one table left other than ours. Service were slow and it’s hard to ask for a mango chutney as we had to ask three waiters till we had it.
Not bad! But being from Dubai, I’ve been lucky enough to have had a wide variety of Indian food, and honestly this was not the best and not very authentic - flavor wise! But not horrible. Service was good and portions were very generous! :)
Mela was just okay. It was easy to reserve a spot for a group of 8 which was nice, but everything was underseasoned, nothing was particularly spicy (despite group members asking for spicy food), and the service was slow and inattentive.
I came here based on a recommendation, but I was pretty disappointed with the selection for the price. The salad bar was completely bare, and the only thing cold available was kheer, and none of the dishes were restocked the entire time I was there. What I did try tasted okay, but there just wasn’t much to choose from. For the cost, I expected a better variety and fresher options.
Visited on Saturday and found food not even meeting basic Standards. Vegetables curries were already stale and not edible. Owner or manager seems arrogant and more polite to whites than Indians visiting their place. Samosa and sweets like kheer and jamun was good but other items in buffet lunch not meeting expectations. Fix fast else you will perish.
Mela should be an option for those who don't know Indian food well. They gave salad on a plate of oil dripping samosas and chutneys also on the same plate. Making the samosa difficult to hold. The lemonade for$ 4 was just water and lemon. I would not recommend this restaurant. They had more staff/servers than people coming in probably more for online orders. I asked them to make my lemonade without ice and sugar and they could not understand it at once. Came twice to my seat to ask what I meant? The photo is good because I click good photos.
Went today on a rainy Thursday, January 24th. Got the Tandoori Chicken and a side of garlic Naan (this of course came with a side of white rice). Unfortunately my waiter had a strong accent, spoke quietly, and seemed to know little English which made communication difficult. Despite that the food was average. The moment the waiter sat down the plate of Tandoori Chicken (which was made incredibly fast and was dry leading me to believe it was just reheated) I saw a thick black hair in the salad that accompanied the chicken. I mean that sort of thing doesn't really bother me that much personally but I know it would disgust most. The rice was also dry and seemed old and/or of poor quality. It reminded me of those "boil in bag" rice boxes which again doesn't bother me much personally because the rice came with the meal (which still doesn't mean it's "free" of course). The sause that came with the Tandoori chicken was of average flavor. Nothing exciting but not bad. The garlic Naan was fairly good, however it's pretty hard to screw up big time. It was crispy which is personally not how I like it plus they added oil to the top which again isn't personally how I prefer my Naan. You can find two pics with my review. One of the Tandoori Chicken alongside it's side salad and the other showing the hair that was very clearly in the salad when it came to my table. I wouldn't reccomend this place to my friends but I mean it wasn't awful. Cheers mates 🍻
Firstly, this is the first and only place in the USA that I know has Bira beer (white & blonde), so that's awesome. Secondly, and not so awesome, this place does not have good food. I ordered the lamb Biryani, and it tasted like fried rice with beef chunks. I've had Biryani in various places in India and the USA and this is by far the most disappointing Biryani. It didn't has mustard seeds, or coriander, or cardamom, or star anise, or any Biryani spices. Literally fried rice with (maybe) lamb. Who makes Biryani with sautéed onions and corn??? My friend ordered a chicken Tikka masala with Poori, which I ended eating instead because It was decent. She also got masala tea after our meal, which she said was the worst she's had (I think at that point, we were both pretty sure that we would never come back to Mela). The service was good. Waiters were friendly, though we were the first and only people there for a good 20mins. Maybe you'll like it! We didn't!
The food here lacked spice and sometimes, salt. Gravies were too watery and runny. Overall the vibe of the place was great, an so was the staff. Majorly lacking in the taste factor, especially for a $20 buffet.
Food and service were not great, however the atmosphere was fine
Horrible food for prices that they keep increasing every single week. staff is rude and wants to take your plate every five minutes even if you’re not done eating the service takes forever and the food becomes rock hard and is not fresh. does not do justice to Indian food
I just got garlic naan and chicken tikka masala. It’s totally worthless. I just wasted my 50 bucks on this food. They created hype in social media to attract people but that’s not worthy as shown in social media. I went this place to enjoy food. In buffet food was good that’s why I ordered takeout order but totally tasteless, it’s totally different from buffet and takeout order.
Very disappointing experience. The buffet was a complete waste of money — extremely limited options, and what little was available was tasteless. The paneer was stale, and to make things worse, I found hair in goat curry, which is completely unacceptable. Cleanliness and hygiene seemed to be an afterthought. I definitely won’t be returning and wouldn’t recommend it to anyone looking for quality or value.
After hearing soo much about mela, today i visited with my family and we were seating near the window, and we ordered the buffet and we ask the server that could we replace the naan bread with the chapati, so he politely replied to me that, i will ask the manager and let you know and after few minutes, i heard that person (the manager) shouting on him, and using the abusive language which was not correct. The people working over there also has a contribution in a good going of restaurant. But then also we continued with our food. But again after some time he came out and started blabbering something on him, so we at last left the restaurant and also cancelled the order of extra naan. I just felt that the behavior with servers was not good at all and also he shouldn't have created the rucus in front of us and other customers.
I had a business dinner last week. I would not go back as the staff and service are extremely poor. Staff is not professional nor they do have any training and not responsive or engaging. They have a hard time understanding specific requests for the meal. Food was average, although not bad. I reached out to the manager who listened (acting deputy as the manager was away) and she adjusted my check. A little too late and I would not recommend this place. There are a lot more and better Indian options around.
Very disappointed. We have ordered from this place several times before without any issues. However, tonight we received an incomplete order. I called to follow up and simply asked for the missing rice dishes to complete our curry — which is the base of the meal. They told me they couldn’t do anything and that I would have to pay again online to get the rice as a side. We are talking about a product that costs only $2, and they are not even willing to fix their own mistake. This kind of mentality is unacceptable, and for this reason alone, I would strongly advise people to avoid this place.
Food was fine except it was a bit dry. But the waiters here somehow have a staring competition with you and tend to assume that everything you're telling your friends is to them and take offense from it. NOT COOL.
