Visiting from out of state, was looking for a good brunch and we found Hey Juan’s! Burritos were amazingly good, the death paste salsa was amazing to eat with the burritos and the guys provided great service even with all the Covid -19 restrictions. I stopped by for lunch during a trip to Arcata and had the deluxe vegan burrito, it’s been a long time since I had a good burrito. They did not disappoint. They have tapatío handy if you need more chile/spiciness. Made me miss California even more

I was there the other day and right when i walked in this red headed girl just gave a big sighed like the world was ending. I walked up to cashier who was super friendly and placed my order. After placing my order i hear the red haired girl cussing and kicking the refrigerator door where she was making the burritos. Everyone who was in there can hear her cussing and I understand that restaurants can get busy but if she gets mad every customers for ordering food then maybe she shouldn't be working in the food industry. I waited a little bit for my food but the cashier did apologize the wait and II didn't mind the wait time but the girl who sighed and cussed made me not want to come because the food was delicious.

Vegan - The Deluxe Tacos 🌮 are 💯% amazing 👏!!! For the spicy sauce lovers: The Habanero will definitely hit the spot. We asked for some extra sauces to go and the wonderful staff agreed to our request with extra 😀😊👍

Hey Juans is of the best food options in town for sure, and one of the ONLY restaurants locally with vegan food! Their Deluxe Vegan Burrito is literally soooo good, they have non-dairy crema sauce and delicious crispy tofu and guac and pico and it's truly fabulous. Everyone should come eat here more often. Also, their $5 off coupons are an insane deal! Cute spot, great service, longstanding small local business - what's not to like? We LOVE Hey Juans!

What makes it even more special is that the owner, Matt has become my friend. Through his outstanding customer service—always warm, attentive, and genuinely caring—Matt has made every interaction feel personal and welcoming, turning a quick burrito run into something I genuinely look forward to. Hey Juan’s is the definition of vegan friendly, evolving into a true vegan fusion restaurant that blends South American-inspired flavors with creative plant-based twists, all while offering top-quality service and inclusive options for every type of restaurant goer—whether you’re vegan, vegetarian, or a meat lover, with protein options to add on if you’re not a vegetarian for otherwise.. The burritos are massive, fresh, and bursting with flavor: generous portions that easily stretch into two meals, vegan beans and rice (no animal products at all), and perfect customization on heat and salsas. My favorites are the Deluxe Vegan with crispy tofu, guac, and all the fixings, or the Green Chili Carnitas for something hearty. The vibe is classic Arcata: funky Humboldt charm, walls covered in beautiful local artwork, and an incredible team of employees who make the service great and truly memorable—everyone behind the counter is friendly, fast, and genuinely happy to be there, which makes every visit feel special. Add in those unbeatable cheap beers—Matt’s fighting the beer price tyranny with pints at $3–$4.50 (often on special)—and it’s the full package. Best burrito I have had in norcal. Cassie really knows how to make it magical. I get the Vegan deluxe and the tofu is cooked perfect the flavors meld together with a unity unmatchable. If you can take it you must try the death paste. made with what looks to be only habaneros it will rid you of all spells instantly. I have been back several times and that habit will continue. oh and also the cheapest pints in town and they have redwood curtain sticky fingers..... yum yum.... this place is what hole in the wall burrito shacks aim to be. period. end quote. go to Hey Juans. now. stop reading this. go.

I’ve loved Hey Juan’s for over 40 years. It’s a little “hole in the wall” that doesn’t disappoint! Those deluxe burritos are my favorite! Tasty! And enough for 2 meals…

As a vegetarian, being able to order tofu in my food was amazing but even more amazing than that the portions of the tofu in the burrito were stellar. The gentlemen behind the counter were nice, responsive when I needed something, and played good music! I just wish the actual space was bigger so I could bring more people next time!

Used to come here MANY years ago when a student at HSU. The walk down memory lane did not disappoint. The burrito was fresh and hit the spot. And the beer IS the cheapest in town. Perfect for students and old retirees.

If you go get " The Juan" it was sooooo good! I also had the Cali which was also delicious! The burritos were pretty big. We were too late to get breakfast burritos but they sounded amazing! I wish I loved closer because this would be a regular stop for me!

Let me tell ya the story of the Arcata institution called Hey Juan Burrito. Now Juan was a good hearted guy but he had a serious addiction.....he loved to climb mountains! One day Juan was sitting on top of a mountain in tibet and he said to himself...man this climbing is great but it is getting expensive, maybe I should open a Burrito place in northtown close to the college where people can get alot of food for a good price. SO HE DID! Back in the day I would walk in there and once in a while between his mountaineering trips Juan would be kicking back and having a beer and I would say Hey Juan! 👋 He always displayed pictures of the mountains he had climbed on the walls and if ya bought him a beer he would spin ya a good tale. The place has changed hands a couple time since then but the premise is the same good food and good beers at a good price.

It was a pleasant exchange with the employee. I got the chicken club burrito. I was expecting the equity of the burrito to match the price ($18) but sadly it did not. I would recommend a local Mexican place instead where the price and the burrito are both spectacular. Im glad I tried it again tho. That place is cramped. The end was not closed and it got all over my pants. Im also a sucker for fresh homemade tortillas.
