Nice place to come and relax after a walk around the park next door, with a good range of hot foods to keep you warm on the riverside, with a great silhouetted view of the castle from among the reeds. Despite being this close to the river, we weren’t too bothered by mosquitos or midges either. Maybe pick a day with a breeze just to be sure. Reasonable prices, and great atmosphere - very busy, but not rowdy.
Lovely Sunday roast lunch with the family. Beautiful restaurant. Very clean. All the staff were very friendly. Sam who looked after us was brilliant and very thorough with the allergens. There were signs everywhere advising patrons to talk to staff about allergens and also many signs reminding people to register their vehicle when parking in their car park. This was both reinforced verbally by staff. Really impressed! Would recommend!
Loved our visit to the Black Rabbit! We had such a great time at The Black Rabbit. The food was amazing, everything we ordered was spot on, and the brownie was honestly one of the best I’ve ever had. The nourish bowl was great and the harissa chicken. The service really was brilliant, quick and efficient. Everyone was super friendly and went out of their way to make us feel welcome. Multiple staff wished my friend a happy birthday [as per my request because she hates that], they all came one by one throughout the meal and it was so funny. The location is just stunning. It’s just a lovely place all around. We’ll definitely be back, and I’d absolutely recommend it to anyone in the area.
Amazing pub close to stunning river views. Food was excellent and service brilliant. Catered for food allergies well - we had a mix of coeliac (gluten free), dairy free and soy free diners and they were all catered for well. Place is cashless which works well for most. Car park and overflow has lots of good space. Will definitely be returning in the near future. This is a Hall and Woodhouse establishment.
We visited this week with a friend who is a wheelchair user. The staff showed much consideration when we arrived .When we left it was raining but a member of staff , Peter, very kindly found an umbrella to shelter our friend from the rain as we were assisting her back into our car. Peter was our main server and we were very grateful for his help and I’d say deserves a bonus for his actions ! We were also impressed with the food and all staff were friendly and helpful too.
Pub next to the river Arun near Arundel,West Sussex. The pub has lovely outdoor seating areas right next to the river with views across the countryside and also to the very impressive Arundel Castle. There are also covered dining areas outside with a considerable amount of tables. Inside the pub has an old world feel and again has a lot of seating. The menu offers something for everyone including some small plate items. Their chips were very good, nice and chunky and fluffy inside, I also had a bowl of onion rings and some garlic bread. Mains include steaks, fish and chips,Sri Lankan curry, fish pie,Harissa chicken and more. Prices are moderate with fish and chips at £18.95 , burger £17.95 to sirloin steak on the bone at £34.95. There are sandwich options available at lunchtime. Healthy and vegetarian options are also available. There is plenty of free parking, just use the pad inside the pub to enter your car reg. I found the staff polite and friendly and service was fast, my small plate order arrived in about 10 minutes at a time when the pub was quite busy.
Very nice place. Very cosy. Great views of the castle.
We booked a table for a friend's birthday, for a get together and lunch. It was such an amazing experience, great food, desserts and 1st class service by Viera. She is kind, helpful and made sure we were well looked after. Gave us time to decide what we wanted to order. Suggested desserts and coffee. Kept checking on us if we were having a good time. Thank you Viera.
Recently been to the black rabbit twice, once I had the club sandwich which was lovely and the second time fish and chips. Just wanted to thank our waitress Sam who was really lovely, efficient and accommodating. She made our experience enjoyable
Lovely quaint pub overlooking Arundel Castle. It was a lovely spot to relax and enjoy a drink after a day of exploring. Just remember to validate your parking as we nearly missed the signs.
Lovely setting, lots of seating options, was able to sit right on the river front. Attentive staff, lovely menu, fast service. Priced well. Definitely will come again.
Liked the menu choices and quality, just little pricey, although not outrageous considering the location. Great seating, inside and out with lovely views. Great service. All considered, would come again!
It's a really nice place to be on a sunny day, plenty of space inside outside. You sit literally next to River Arun with an amazing view to the castle. Pretty cool. 🙂 The only thing I would mention is that it's a bit expensive, but then you have to pay for the location I guess. Otherwise the food was nice. Highly recommended.
Fabulous food, excellent customer service from all staff we met. Unable to get a table inside as we did not book and arrived on spec. Ate at table outside our choice which was sheltered and had outside heaters and as we had a dog with us was absolutely fine (we were given choice of waiting until later to eat inside). Would thoroughly recommend.
Lovely place, just down the down road from Arundel. You wouldn’t know is it was here unless you knew about it. Sat outside, by the river. Good choice of food. Had a club sandwich and a fish sandwich. Coffee and mint tea. Good service. Very friendly. Nice environment. Toilets could do with a clean.
Perfect Sunday meal. We went as a family of four and everyone enjoyed their meals. I had the steak and ale pie and it was delicious. The staff were all very helpful and friendly. Possibly my favourite pub meal ever! The location isn’t bad either 😅 stunning views even on a winters day!
Great atmosphere. Quaint and tucked away with lovely views of the river. Friendly staff and great service. Definitely recommend coming here for a quiet cosy lunch especially on a rainy British day.
I just love this place. Yes it's a little tucked away but that makes it more special when you do visit. The staff are welcoming, the food is spectacular and whilst a little music wouldn't go a miss, I can't fault rhe Black Rabbit at all. I've been in the Spring, the summer, autumn and winter, and The menu always has something perfect to enjoy. Well done Black Rabbit, well done!
I came to the black rabbit whilst visiting the area and had a solid roast. The quality of the food was high and the portions were very generous. Would return for more of that cheesecake 🤤
Having visited The black rabbit in the past, I was pleasantly surprised to find it had changed for the better. We were served by Fenella who looked after us extremely well. Nothing was too much trouble. Fenella was very friendly, professional and a credit to the team.On a sunny day the views along the river to the castle are divine.
Service was v good but unfortunately for most of us (6) food was disappointing....fish and chips was hoki and didn't have any flavour and my mushroom risotto was rather stodgy and again no flavour. Pity its a great location... we've yet to visit when the sun is out. Will probably go again sometime but hope food will improve. Our 2nd visit..first time was much better!
Gorgeous location along the river. Nice outdoor seating under the roof overhang or next to the river. There is plenty of inside seating as well. We recommend having a reservation as itvwas packed on a Sunday. It’s about a mile and a half walk along a beautiful tree lined path from Aurendel castle. SERVICE was very friendly. Food was just so so. Although the roast beef was pinkish. It was a bit tough. The creamed cauliflower was very tasty.
Went with my wife and friends there for a Sunday roast. I had made a reservation ahead for 2.45, but we actually got there 20 minutes earlier. Nonetheless, the team was very happy to offer us a table that had just become available. As we sat at the table, Martha - our host, brought us the food and drinks menu. We went with 2 chicken roasts, 1 beef roast and 1 pork roast as well as a side of cauliflower cheese. As for drinks, we got a pint of peach beer, berry refresher, a pint of lemonade and a pint of soda & lime. The two chicken roasts was the first to come, within 15 minutes, however my partner and I requested for the chicken to be roasted a bit more so that the skin is crunchy. The host was respectful of our request and took the roast back to the kitchen for further cooking. Whilst that was being done, the other roasts came. After setting them on the table, we were asked if we needed any more sauces, especially gravy, to which we said yes. The two chicken roasts then came out and then the extra gravy was brought at no extra charge. We had started to eat and Martha came to check in on us. The food tasted very good, however we were still waiting for the drinks to come and for the side of cauliflower cheese. She was kind enough to go and check on both of them. A couple of minutes later, we had everything we needed and began to feast. We chose a table right by the door as it was quite hot. The downside to that was a large group of bikers came to the pub, all of them on Harley Davidsons which were very loud. It must've been 20-30 of them cause they kept coming and coming. Martha checked back on us again and I requested another pint of lime & soda, which was promptly brought to the table. Once we finished our food, all the plates were taken away and dessert menus brought for each of us, however we decided against. We really liked the food and the service. The only downside was the loud noise made by the Harleys, but that is out of the pub's control. Overall a very nice experience and we would happily recommend the pub to anyone for good food and relaxed atmosphere.
5 stars for service, was very attentive, friendly and quick. 5 stars for location by the river with a large area of outdoor seating, but equally generous indoor seating. 3 stars for the food because it’s quite tasty but also quite expensive for small portions (over £8 for an average desert) and not brilliantly presented. But mostly because when a table of four on a busy day gets their food within 5 minutes of ordering you know that it’s been sat there pre-prepared waiting under a heat lamp for some time.
The Black Rabbit is in a lovely location. There's great views, and it's a really well kept pub and restaurant. The staff were super friendly and nice, and ever so attentive. I can't fault them. I visited the Back Rabbit for a date (the 3rd date) hoping it would be a lovely Sunday Lunch for me and my date. Unfortunately a table of 4 younger people about 8 feet away were so overly loud and exuberant with their talking (shouting at each other) that my date and I found it really difficult to chat at a normal volume. I noticed that as the restaurant filled up the noise level rose to an overwhelming cascade of mixed conversation it became quite irritating. My date noticed my change in mood and commented on it. I felt really quite annoyed that the noise was overwhelming. In my opinion the restaurant is too open plan and would benefit from some sort of screening to block the noise from other tables. I really wanted to give the Black Rabbit 5 stars but just couldn't as I feel the establishment should realise that customer noise is an issue when it's busy. Fair enough if you know your party really well, but if you're a fledgeling couple you might want to look for somewhere quieter to have a more intimate date. As a result of the noise issue, my date and I only had a main course. If the noise had not been an issue we may have had starters, mains, pudding, coffee and drinks and spent 2 or 3 times as much as we did. Oh and I forgot to mention the barking dogs that were clearly not under control, and the screaming babies (not their fault, probably didn't like the loud noise level either).
Lovely setting next to the Arun river and nice pub overall. Their food was decent and the service was good. We went during the week off season so was only a little bit busy but I imagine it gets packed in summer and during the weekends.
This pub is a great spot on a sunny afternoon , mid week is best less busy , friendly staff and dog friendly too , . Sadly food really wasn’t up to scratch, lack of presentation, burger was nothing special Cheap Macdonald type fries and no garnish . Expected more for £17.25 Good selection of local ales But the view made up for it .
Great pub. Great location. Riverside beer garden and outdoor eating areas for the summer. Indoors is traditional, clean and contemporary. Food smelt very nice, but the price was too high for me to partake, so settled for a pint and a bag (half full) of crisps. Prices are a little high for my liking. £7.40 for a pint and half empty bag of crisps is not sustainable, so left after 2. Great location and lovely walks along the river into town. Nice place to spend the day.
A lovely pub next to the water. Lovely food. Great staff. Very friendly and welcoming. Walked from the castle to pub about one and a quarter mile. Well worth it.
Always a nice experience at the Black Rabbit. Excellent service - Alice was a very attentive waitress today. Lovely calm atmosphere and not rushed to leave our table after Sunday lunch. Only downfall is the roast potatoes which were a bit dry!
The food was delicious and the service was great. Alice took care of us and nothing was too much trouble. Staff were attentive and aware. Would recommend!
Went for Sunday roast. Food was fine, only 3 roast potatoes though! Marked lower on service as the only service you get is having your food delivered. You order at the bar and get your own drinks. Then they add a service charge automatically.
This is a well run pub, always has been. Great quality food and staff and quick service. Dog friendly (outside) but can get a bit like Crufts! Food is a bit pricey, eg £22 for a burger £14 for a sandwich which more expensive than other pubs in the chain but I guess you pay a premium for the view which is fantastic.
Great location, absolutely stunning. But the food is quite expensive. I ordered a cheese burger for £18 and I was given a kids burger. Also, when I left to take my daughter to the toilet and asked that they leave my plate as I wasn't finished. Yet, when I returned, guess what?! Gone. So not the best experience unfortunately. They did give me a free desert to try and make up for the mistake. That was actually quite nice.
Roast dinners were lovely. However the Beef Cheek dish was very small and not much in the way of vegetables to make up for it and expensive in comparison to the Roast Dinner. Clearly advised the table was available for 2 hours but was told the next guests were waiting at the bar after an hour and 40 minutes. Felt pressured into leaving. Not the best experience, which is shame
I loved this restaurant/pub since I was a little boy and throughout the years has had its ups and downs. Unfortunately the latest visit wasn't amazing. The food was average, didnt blow us away. Albeit we didn't have all too much but my friend had the nourish bowl and felt it was extremely bland with no real flavour. My other half had the Chicken Parmiggiana while stated by the waitress it wasn't too spicy my girlfriend didn't eat the meal because it was too spicy for her. Of course it's hard to gauge each person's heat tolerance but I wanted to mention it regardless. We decided to take leftovers away and in the end we just gave the food to a friend in need instead. My antipasti sharer felt quite inconsistent in the cuts of meat and was slightly lackluster in flavour. However our friend did enjoy the cheeseboard. Sam the waitress and the staff however were lovely and very accommodating and friendly! May have just been one of those days and its in a lovely location just maybe better for other bits in the menu than what we had or just for a drink.
Been going here for Anniversary for 12 years and normally really good experience. However on thus occasion I was left disappointed. Apprantley they were really busy on Saturday so had run out of a far few dishes. Waitresses also appeared stressed and were not at all friendly :*
Nothing worse than paying 8 pounds for a quarter of a slice of cheesecake. The spoon and the ice cream were bigger. The service could be better. Different people serve you without understanding what the customer has ordered. The salty meals to share are good. The cheesecake was a huge disappointment.
Had a very disappointing lunch at the Black Rabbit. £18 for a frozen burger is a total rip off. The service was not great either, they forgot to bring out one of our party’s meal and also did not come back so we could let them know we wanted cutlery/ condiments/ napkins. I guess this pub is always busy because of the beautiful location but it’s a shame the standards have slipped. Definitely won’t be eating there again.
Lunch today was awful. Ordered Sea Bass Risotto, mushrooms, leeks, rosemary and tomato butter. Fish was so dry, obviously re-heated, risotto barely warmed on re-heating, couldn’t find the leeks!! We complained to bar staff but absolutely no response from the ‘chef’. Recommendation: employ a new ‘chef’ or cook food to order. Better still, don’t eat in the restaurant; such a shame in such beautiful surroundings on the River Arun.
Horrible Food questionable service we came with good expectations as we had been a year ago we ordered the burger considering it’s £22 you would think they have some quality meat however they are clearly frozen and cheap not to mention the £25 steak wich we asked for rare and was completely over cooked and was well done instead done on the side there was yellow pea shoots and raw shallot tomato was disgustingly peppery and mushroom had seen better days there was no check back on our table either to raise our issues that we had maybe because we were sat outside we did have to wait 30 minutes for our food considering there was no one else eating this did feel longer then we would of hoped for it’s such a shame because the pub itself on the inside and outside had obviously been well maintained however food is such a let down
