Fantastic food. Great beer and wine selection. I have eaten here a couple of times and really enjoyed the authentic curry dishes. They also serve Western food, the burgers look amazing. It was great to see the head chef pop out to the restaurant to ensure his amazing food was being well received. I’ve attached a photo of the onion and bell pepper fritters, they are superb.
Good place with a great energy! Food was so delicious and the staff is amazing! 10/10
Went there today, 7th June 25, with friends. We had the curry options and were very surprised at how good it all was. I will definitely go back again. Thank you for a nice evening.
Excellent food, and not just by pub standards. All the dishes were made to extremely high standards and beautifully plated. Great job by chef Rocky and his team. Wonderful service from Andrea as well.
So pleasantly surprised! The bar staff, waiting staff and chef were absolutely lovely. So attentive and happy to help. The food was 10/10, hot, fresh, tasty and the portions were great. The chef coming to check how it was for us was a lovely touch, you can tell the staff really care about the customers experience. I have no complaints! ❤️
Small gem. As soon as we walked in we had a warm welcome. I am not easy to accommodate as I have a food allergy. Nothing was a problem. The food was delicious and lovely staff. Looks good inside and out. Can be great for families as it has a spacious beer garden and some play area. Prices are not extortionate and if we visit these parts again we would stop here for food in a heartbeat.
Traveled up from Bristol to pick my dad up from Gatwick airport the next morning, decided to try The Black horse 2 mins from hotel. Absolutely gorgeous, beautifully cooked food. Friendly staff and a beautiful pub. I will definitely visit again if I ever get the chance. 100% fantastic place to eat fully recommended!!
Very nice pub, with wide range of menu. The service was great, portions are big. Nice atmosphere.
Offers parallel Indian and pub food menus and does both well as far as we've seen so far, having been a few times! Nice atmosphere and really nice, friendly service, & great with little ones. Garden is good. Kids' menu could do with some healthier / more varied options though - all beige and no side veg.
Excellent food.. wide choice on menu. Staff very attentive. Barman (blonde guy) particularly good. Recommended, we will be back for more.
Great food &amazing service. Andreea is the greatest, such a kind and warm host!
An update on my previous review just to state that the Black Horse is now under new management. Although I could find no fault with the previous management a new and more extensive menu is now available which is equally well prepared. Always enjoy a meal at the Black Horse, the staff are friendly and helpful and the food is always well prepared with good portions. For me it's what a traditional pub should be, not too posh but with a nice atmosphere, hopefully it will remain that way and then my family will continue to visit and enjoy a good meal. Give it a try, well worth it.
We decided to try somewhere new for our anniversary date this year and we went to the black horse. Glad we did - The atmosphere was lovely, staff were great and food was amazing! Thank you for such a lovely evening. This place is a gem!
Stopped ahead of our flight from Gatwick, we got there just after opening time at 12.30 and couldn't fault the service and quality of the food. We had a burger and a cobb sandwich. Staff were friendly and decent pricing.
Met up with four other ladies for lunch on Monday. Lovely food and a great atmosphere due to the super friendly staff , can't wait to go again.
This is far and away the best pub I have been to in the UK. The menu is huge, food delicious, portions are big. The servers are very friendly as well as the regulars, we ended up having a chat with some locals who recommended we try the Kens lamb curry (named after him apparently) and we did and it was delicious
Such a lovely pub with an elegant feel. The service is fantastic, so helpful, friendly and patient. Good suggestions of what to try on the menu. This is our third time now and we have tried a lot of dishes. All the food is fresh and you can taste the difference. Great veggie options too. Perfect for children, dogs allowed. Covers all basis!
A fantastic place to eat, the food was excellent and they didn't skimp in the portions, amazing customer service 😀, it was my birthday and the staff were fantastic and very friendly, from the moment we walked in to when we left, we received 5* service, Great place to Eat with family and friends 😀 x
A Wonderful Dining Experience at The Black Horse Restaurant The Black Horse Restaurant offers an extraordinary blend of delicious cuisine, a welcoming atmosphere, and top-notch service. From the moment you step inside, you’re greeted with warmth and professionalism, setting the tone for a fantastic dining experience. One of the standout aspects of my visit was the impeccable service provided by Andrea. Her attention to detail, genuine kindness, and ability to make everyone feel special truly elevated the experience. She went above and beyond to ensure everything was perfect, making thoughtful recommendations and checking in regularly with a bright smile. It’s rare to come across someone as dedicated and passionate about their role . The food was absolutely delightful, Sunday lunch amazing with flavors that showcased both skill and creativity. The presentation was stunning, and every bite was a treat. Whether you’re visiting for a special occasion or a casual meal, The Black Horse delivers on every front. A big thank the entire team for making my visit so memorable. I highly recommend The Black Horse Restaurant for anyone looking for an exceptional dining experience with outstanding service!

Booked for just after Christmas to celebrate my husbands retirement great food and superb customer service, the staff made it such a special occasion
Starving hungry we found this little gem near where we were staying for the night. Food was amazing, we didn't realise this was an Indian restaurant as well as offering classic pub grub. Food was good, well presented and to top it up, the chef took special requests from fussy customers like myself.
Really enjoyed lunch good portions for the price and very tasty. The atmosphere was lovely, and staff were helpful and attentive. Will definitely return.
A very well run, clean and atmospheric local pub with excellent food. We go here to experience the gastro food and fine selection of wines. Andrea and her team are charming and considerate. Well worth a visit, or two!
Myself and my partner popped in today for lunch. The food was wonderful, the staff were great and the price was superb. I will definitely be going there again
Good value food , gluten free peroni available and GF marks up on menus. friendly service , good quality Christmas crackers!
Recommended by friends and decided to take an old friend there for lunch. Absolutely worth the money. Lovely pub/restaurant, staff very pleasant and food was absolutely delicious.
Absolutely fabulous pub & restaurant would highly recommend it fantastic food, the curry was the best I've ever eaten and believe me l've had a few, great service very hospitable, friendly staff and great relaxing cosy pub atmosphere will definitely visit again and again, thank you for making our celebration evening so amazing 😊
We ended up here after booked to stay nearby. Food was lovely, had the curry platter which was full of flavour. Service & atmosphere was good. Will definitely use again when staying down this way.
Popped in for a lunch meeting. Service was attentive without being over bearing and the food was excellent. It was a weekday lunchtime, reasonably busy but still quiet enough to have a discussion. Will be going back.
Had an enjoyable lunch, well priced for portion size and very tasty. Lovely atmosphere and staff were attentive and very helpful. Definitely will go back.
Amazing delicious food, excellent customer service, love the atmosphere and would highly recommend for a great value for money meal out whatever the occasion. 5 star food and service!
They have really excellent food, both Indian and typical, and it all looks great. I ate there twice, once alone and once with a group of 11. Both times the service was excellent. The waitstaff is very friendly and efficient. I would recommend their Alpacalypse Session IPA and literally anything on the menu. I would love to eat there again.
Food was so good. There were 13 of us eating and everyone really enjoyed the food. The service was excellent, really friendly and helpful staff. It was a nice pub atmosphere noisy with a nice buzz, but not rowdy. I am going again.
We had such a wonderful experience here! I ordered the lamb with veggies and potatoes and it was absolutely delicious — perfectly cooked and full of flavor. The staff were incredibly lovely and welcoming, which made us feel right at home. As visitors, we really appreciated their kindness in letting us stay a little longer to enjoy our time. Truly grateful for the warm hospitality and amazing food. Highly recommend!
The Black Horse in Horley sits comfortably in the “pub with ambitions” category, a local trying to play on a slightly grander stage. It’s a fine aspiration, but aspirations alone don’t guarantee results, and here, it’s a mixed bag. Let’s start with the Mediterranean salad, priced at an eyebrow-raising £13.95. At that price, you’d expect a dish that sings of sun-dappled coastal markets and fresh sea air. Instead, what arrives is a bowl of chopped lettuce, some decent-enough olives, the odd sun-dried tomato, croutons, and a scattering of feta. The ingredients are undeniably fresh, but it’s a salad without a story, a dish that lacks the drama or complexity of something worthy of its price tag. Where’s the grilled aubergine or courgette? The roasted red peppers or artichoke hearts? It’s as if someone took the idea of the Mediterranean, stripped it of its romance, and replaced it with sweetness, a dressing so sugary it should come with a dental warning. The onion bhaji was a far better effort. Crisp, golden, and warmly spiced, it managed to deliver a little joy. That said, the garnish of wilted spinach and a stray tip of lettuce felt like an afterthought, and the drizzle of reduced balsamic was a nod to culinary trends that died with flip phones. But still, it was good enough to make you forgive these minor missteps. Then there was the curry, which was genuinely excellent. Deep, rich, and perfectly spiced, it showed a level of care and understanding that suggests someone in that kitchen knows what they’re doing. The rice, fluffy and fragrant, was the perfect companion. It’s the kind of dish that makes you wonder why the rest of the menu doesn’t quite rise to meet it. The staff, at least, are a credit to the place: friendly, efficient, and genuinely pleasant. They help lift the experience and make you want to root for the Black Horse. And to be fair, not everything on the menu carries the same high price tag as the salad. Most items are reasonably priced, leaning towards the upper end of pub dining but not outrageously so. The Black Horse has the bones of something great. The setting is welcoming, the service is excellent, and some of the dishes genuinely shine. But if it wants to justify its higher price points, it needs to refine its offering. Right now, it feels like a pub that’s reaching for greatness but hasn’t quite figured out how to get there.
Located around 10 minutes north of the London Gatwick Airport by car, this beautifully constructed pub offers lunch, dinner and dessert. It has plenty of parking spaces too.
An excellent pub that serves wonderful Indian Cuisine as well as hearty British pub grub. Pleasant service and staff.
Went for my father's 97th birthday. The staff were very good in making my father feel special. The food, as always was excellent, meat extremely tender. Drinks were reasonably priced. Not only that, but we were able to watch the women's European football final!
The Indian food choices were amazing. My Ravioli looked a little on the yellow side, but tasted fine. Lovely pub though and and the staff did look after us as a group of 12 although did forget my desert - but it was quite busy for a Saturday evening close to Christmas!
The Black Horse is a cute little pub with a nice back garden. The food was partly good (the veg and potatoes good) while the beef was very dry and yorkshire pudding dry and tasteless no matter how much gravy you poured over the top of the Sunday lunch. The Guinness went really well with the food whereas the other ales that I tried didn't stand out. Another annoying thing was a manager of Indian descent scolding the waiters right in front of me trying to show them he is good at his job - it looked insecure and it was putting me off my lunch.
Been here a couple of times now, and each time had an enjoyable meal. The food is tasty and comes out hot. Plenty of choice on the menu, even for the fussiest of eaters. The cost is on the higher side for what you get, they could do with being £3-4 cheaper on each dish, we're not in London. Tables outside need to be cleaned, every time we've been they've been dirty with visible sticky glass rings all over them. The service is also hit and miss, last time we were greeted at the door, we sat outside and waited nearly 20 minutes just to order drinks, and that's only because I stopped one of the staff and asked if we could order. This is probably the biggest turn off as we like to get in, order, eat and get out so we can get home to put the little one to bed; sitting around for 2 hours when it could've easily been 1 hour is off putting to say the least. The beer garden is lovely, has a little wooden play area and slide for the kids which our daughter loves. All in all, we'll pop in again when passing and have a car full of rumbly tums.
Due to the freezing weather i decided to take my two grandchildren for a meal. I asked if they had a table for 1 adult and two children we were seated the other side of the pub away from the other guests, felt it may be they were presuming the children would be noisy. Ordered mac n cheese , chicken ceasar salad, milkshakes. It took 45 mins for the food to arrive, large portions a bit too much for a child's portion however the food nice. Milkshakes were large and in glass, not really suitable for children. The staff nice enough , not very attentive, more interested in talking to the bar customers. Although the food was nice I wouldn't go out of my way to go again.
Went last night. We all had curry. I thought very basic and nothing special. Naan was nice service good decor poor ambience zero.
I came for a Birthday treat at the beginning of December as I had been the previous year and had a delicious meal but sadly this time the food was not up to scratch. The chicken was dry and stringy and the food was not hot enough had to be reheated. One of my friends had a chicken Caesar salad which she enjoyed but for me it was rather disappointing and not sure whether I would bother going again.
Lamb chops for starter which came out cold and evidently pre cooked. The rest of the food was average with the prices high. Would not recommend this place for Indian food. Go to your local curry house which will be ten times better and a lot cheaper.
Food got to us cold, wet and soggy. Fries seem like they’ve been reheated. Just one big disappointment this is, especially that we’ve ordered before and everything was fine. Definitely last time ordering here. I’m not sure about dining in but ordering I do not recommend if you don’t want to waste your money.
