We wanted to stop for drinks somewhere on our way out of town and Butcher Bar was on the way. The Atmosphere was fantastic. Compared to the rest of the shops and Restaurants in Astoria, they did so well opening up the place and you don’t feel like you’re where you are. The environment feels so welcoming. We ended up ordering the burnt ends. Coming from the south where Barbecue is a major part of our culture, I was floored by the flavor and texture of the brisket. It’s damn good brisket. The flavor is elevated, juicy without being overly fatty and nothing like I’ve tasted it before. 10/10 We initially went in for cocktails, and the Cocktail menu Is slightly typical except that there are small unique differences within all of the cocktails that make it unique to the restaurant. Maybe my favorite place to grab cocktails now in Astoria.
Butcher Bar is by far and above the best bbq in and around Astoria. The brisket was fantastic, had just the right amount of smoke and clearly pulled apart when slicing into it. Their double smoked beef burnt ends are beyond words. You have to try them to understand why I will be coming back again and again. The service is prompt, with smiles on everyone from the bartender, to the waitress, and me by the time I left. You cannot find a cleaner, friendlier, and tastier BBQ joint in town. Period.
I want to extend a heartfelt thank you to Butcher Bar for the exceptional catering you provided for our wedding weekend. The food was absolutely delicious—our guests were so impressed that every single one went back for seconds (and some even thirds!) The setup and delivery were handled with such professionalism by the team. They arrived on time and the set up was quick and effortless. The pricing was very fair, and we felt the value we received was outstanding. It was a great investment for such an important event, and the quality of the food and service made it worth every penny. If you’re considering catering for a special event, I highly recommend Butcher Bar! Delicious food, excellent service, and great value make them a fantastic choice. Thank you once again for making our event truly memorable!
Among the frappé shops and creperies of Astoria's 30th Avenue, Butcher Bar offers a fresh menu option for lumberjacks and southern-style meat lovers alike. Service Rating: 5 - Betty was there with us from point A to Z, she made great suggestions and was perfectly attentive without being overbearing. Selection Rating: 4 - We were there with a Groupon and I was gaga over the PBLT, a real prize de puerco. Wish there was a vegetarian option for the Groupon, we were excited to try the veggie burger but they were out that day and it isn't included in the Groupon. Would be more than glad to pay the extra for that black bean burger next time! The food was #droolsome and the drink selection fits the scene like a butcher's glove. I had the delicious #MooThunderStout and the lady had a Catcher in the Rye cocktail. Atmosphere Rating: 5 - The bar is HUGE, just fat and seemingly conducive to the bartenders happiness in a trickle down sort of way. Something I always notice in restaurants is the volume of the music and the content, Butcher Bar's volume in respect to the general talking volume of the crowd was pleasant and the music selection wasn't too aggressive nor too mellow. The bathrooms were a-plenty (didn't have to wait) and they were very well kept. The night we went in was slow and people were seated well spread out in accordance. Cumulative Value Rating: 4.67 - Although we went to Butcher Bar on a Groupon, we will DEFINITELY be back at full price. The staff was beyond friendly and for an hour we were transported to Austin where the southern barbecue is sweet and the smiling comfort can't be beat.
The food is amazing and the staff had such a warm and inviting personality. Well appreciated. I will be coming again
The meat here is excellent! The pace is relaxed, with nice and casual service. Great to wander in - will be returning
Daniela is a great server. Had burnt ends, pulled pork, brisket, cornbread and creamy mac n cheese. My one complaint, if I had one at all, was that the mac portion wad a bit smaller than I'd wished, which is a testament to how good it is. I could've inhaled that thing in 2 seconds. Can't wait to come back.
The burnt ends are truly the star of the show. Enjoyed the smoked brisket and the honey that went with their infamous corn bread. Getting a bowl is definitely the best deal. Chose a mashed potato base for my own. Definitely ordering from here again.
Ask for Bura, he was amazing. The food is perfect!!! Is a must go if you in Astoria Queens.
I've been wanting to try this place out for a while now. So the day finally came- boyfriend and I stopped in for brunch... and it was so good! We both got the brunch burger. Definitely a good choice. The burger was juicy and amazing. The home fries it came with were some of the most flavorful home fries I've ever had. And the salad was also nice as well. We loved their sauces and would mix it with the habanero and try it with everything on our plate. The brunch also comes with a drink! I ordered a Bellini and my boyfriend ordered a mimosa. Both were delicious. They have a brunch happy hour (I unfortunately forgot the times) but it's $6 each for the brunch drinks, after the one that comes with brunch. We enjoyed our meal and I definitely want to come back to try dinner!
For a restaurant that serves up such awesome Texas styled BBQ, Butcher's Bar is awfully not crowded. I believe if this restaurant was opened anywhere else besides NYC, the line will be out the door. Butcher's Bar advertises the fact that they only use grass fed cows, which people in the meat industry have known to possess inferior marbling that typically results in less flavor and tenderness. Despite using "inferior" ingredients, the BBQ at Butcher's Bar is still on par with most BBQ places across the country (but seems to be in short supply in NYC). On this particular visit, we ordered a farmer's market salad, burnt ends, pork belly, sprouts, and the "animal" burger. The staff is friendly and the decor is typical BBQ restaurant that screams "this is 'merica".
The food is phenomenal. They always seem to have specials at night but the lunch specials Monday through Friday $12.99 12:30pm-3:30pm sharp! The sauces that they have on the table are pretty good. They’re habanero sauce as a little bit of a sting afterwards if you like hot sauce, bring your own! Jen L is a fantastic waiter. She knows her product and what will fit your taste buds had a wonderful time. Spent two hours at the table. It’s a little bit of a bar scene, but the food is exceptional. Had the burnt ends on the brioche bun asked for tomatoes and onions, which made the meal complete. Of course you have to have ketchup for the french fries which I ordered. Well done no salt very long and crispy.
The beef chili is hands down my favorite in all of NYC, and I do not say that lightly. The fall off the bone ribs are also great and the burnt ends are a MUST TRY. But make sure to get there early as the burnt ends tend to sell out before the end of the day, especially on weekends. The great food plus the great service make this place one of my go-to restaurants in Astoria. Two thumbs up!
It’s not often that you find a decent bbq place open with friendly waiters at 1145pm. Butcher bar is your jam serving up classic home style bbq that was so good that - wow - it didn’t even last for me to take a picture of it. Try the Texas toast pblt and grab that side of broccoli for an unexpected journey to flavor land. So much to love here, decently priced and good drink options.
What a great find!! So happy I was in the area and decided to stop here to have my hunger fulfilled. Great setting and very quick service. I didnt expect to be seated, stuff our faces and leave in just over an hour. Place had a line out the door as we were sitting so I'm sure we just got there at the perfect timing so no complaints from our end. People waiting in line were patient as well since they knew they were about to have a great meal. I'd gladly wait in line for some more of those awesome Brisket ends they said were their beat sellers and I can completely understand why.
Went with my family - grateful the establishment was quiet for our toddler, high chair and crayons a plus Staff was extremely warm Food exceptionally well priced for the three of us For NYC, high quality bbq Amid an incredibly diverse cuisine selection in queens, a dangerously delicious bbq joint is waiting for those who need their fix. Get some.
Left a review on yelp but just had to leave one here as well! The true definition of a hole-in-the-wall. This place is amazing. I ordered the baked mac and cheese skirt steak. My boyfriend ordered the ribs and mash. I gotta say the mac and cheese is to die for!! The steak was just as amazing; soft and buttery, as well as the ribs. Definitely going back! :)
I’m surprised at the consistency of the quality of food here—their service has picked up drastically, as well! With locally sourced organic meats, this place is by far one of the best bbq spots in the city. Over the years they have really built a solid reputation on their quality of meats. A tad on the pricey side but for the quality, it’s well worth it. Their meat candy burnt beef ends are a superb—along with their mac n’ cheese and fried pickles and other dishes. Definitely a great place to bring your friends and family!
we are in 3 people, we like the food very much, all the dishes were very good, and everything very fresh, we like the french fries a little bit more crunchy, but even so we ate everything !!! the service was very good and my long island ice tea was perfectly correct whenever I can come here, as it is close to my home I am always here, I really like the service, organization and easy location, I always recommend it to my friends and everyone loves it, congratulations and I will return you can be sure to insist @chefwilliamruiz_nyc
I’m a regular here for dinner and I’ve had most of the menu at this point. Their brunch menu looks awesome and I’ll post another review once I’ve tried that. The burgers are solid and appetizers are fantastic. The only thing I’ve had that I didn’t love was the steak, but I’m not much of a steak person I guess. The PBLT is my favorite sandwich, and either the Mac and cheese or 5 bacon is my favorite burger, I can’t pick one. The Mac and cheese by itself though from the starter options though is amazing, definitely order that. The side of Mac is ok but is not as good once you’ve had the full version. The salads are consistently good, but come out looking slightly different each time (like sometimes avocado is diced, sometimes is sliced 🤷🏽♀️). I’m uploading lots of pictures!
I came here for the meats on my birthday with my wife, sis in-law and 7 week baby. On a Monday afternoon. Which was wonderfully uncrowded. They had a blue plate lunch special, which we all got, with different mains: bbq chicken, brisket, pulled pork. The pulled pork was the winner. But the brisket was also super soft. Chicken didn’t suck either. For the sides, we had: bacon beans (B), cole slaw (B-, bland), mac n cheese (A), mashed potatoes (A), and beets (B+?..I hate beets). Nice beer selection too. I had a galaxy ipa.
I have been here quite a few times - food is exceptional every single time, especially their meat candy and the corn bread with honey butter. Service is 10/10 even on the busier days. The last two times we’ve been here, we’ve had Thomas as our server. He is so observant during busier times - he greeted us as soon as we walked in and let us know he will be with us asap . He is great at juggling multiple tables and checking in with us periodically to see if we needed anything else. He stopped by a few times to ask if the food was okay. He also has such a sweet, upbeat personality - we always know we’ll have a great time if we see him there.
absolutely amazing! From the moment we walked in, Maggie was fabulous — so welcoming, attentive, and genuinely kind. She made sure we had everything we needed and really elevated the whole experience. It’s rare to find service that good! The food was delicious — perfectly cooked, full of flavor, and clearly made with care. You can tell they take pride in what they serve. Will definitely be back soon ! 10/10
The few times I have been here, food has been great! I had Thomas as my waiter, and every time has been a wonderful experience because of his exceptional customer service. I know the next time I come back (probably soon), if he’s there it will be a good time. Very attentive, and very likable person! Will be coming back for more!
My husband and I had a very delicious dinner last night. We shared the meat candy burnt ends and mama's fried chicken sandwich with a side of fries. Both the sandwiches were phenomenal and the fries were a generous portion. One of the reasons we came was because butcher bar is on Rakuten and Toast (collective hospitality). Both are an incentive seeing as how there are so many restaurants in the area. Keep up the great work and see you soon!
Had an AMAZING dinner there this weekend, food was even more delicious than I could have imagined - they are not lying about the burnt ends! My server, Sandrine, was so helpful and explained a few items on the menu for me that I was curious about, she was sweet and quick to explain the dishes without making me feel like I was bothering her! The drinks from the bar were so very tasty as well, not watered down at all. Over all great service & food. Will be back for more!
Came here for dinner and couldn’t wait to post this review. I’m in and out of Texas and Tennessee five times a year. I’ve eaten at historic BBQ spots down south, some dating back to the 60s. I know a good brisket and pulled pork when I see it. I’ve attempted to have southern BBQ in NYC many times and it always falls short, sometimes criminally. Butcher Bar does it real Texas style. The burnt ends will literally melt in your mouth. Not too salty either. The Mac and cheese is as rich as a billionaire. The corn bread is addictive. The fried chicken appetizer was spectacular and that buffalo sauce it came with, I could have drank it on its own. The beers are cold which is always something I look for. The wonderful owners Matt and Kathy were very hands on during service and they made sure to go table to table to make sure with all the costumers that the food was to their liking. This is literally THE BEST southern BBQ in the entire state of NY and could easily compete at a food fair with any down south spot.
I finally got to try Butcher Bar in Astoria, and wow—it totally lived up to the hype. The Infamous Meat Candy burnt ends were insane. Seriously, probably the best I’ve ever had. They were perfectly crispy on the outside, super tender inside, and packed with flavor. I could have eaten a whole plate of just those. We also had the mac and cheese, which was really comforting and creamy—just the kind of side you want with BBQ. The place itself has a really chill, welcoming vibe, and the staff was great too. If you’re into good barbecue, definitely give this place a shot. I’ll for sure be going back.
Definitely one of the better BBQ spots I’ve had in NYC. They get the sides right as well. Not sure what’s on the Brussels but eat some, it’s good. Coleslaw was standard tastiness but a staple. Cornbread was interesting in a good way. Very cake like. It’s own thing almost. Nice and moist. I got dry rub ribs so I could try the three standard sauces. Go that route and it’s saves $1 Had a “frose” Wouldn’t again. Had the street corn, just get the regular. No flavor. Would go back to try more things!
The staff is friendly, and attentive. The menu prices, are very reasonable. It wasn't crowded, and I got my food kinda fast. The Meat Candy Burnt Ends are a popular choice for appetizer. It definitely tasted better with the sauce. I was suprised at how good the creamy Mac & Cheese were. It was on point. The Smoked BBQ sandwich was very good as well.
Good service and vibes. The food was great but I was expecting a really good brisket of all things. Brisket was really flavorless and dry. Among other things, we ordered mac-n-cheese, chicken tenders, smoked chicken wings, fall-off-the-bone ribs, fries, burgers, pork belly, and pulled pork. All these items were good. I have to mention again that they need to work their brisket. Please make it taste better for the love of BBQ.
Had some great takeout from here! We started off with the fried pickles and they were so good! For my main, I had the "Butcher's Platter" with a sampling of their meats and a few sides. Definitely recommend if you can't decide what to have. It was ALMOST a lot of food, but if you come hungry, you can definitely eat it all. I specifically chose the brisket, dry rub ribs, and pulled pork and they were all really good - I'm no barbecue connoisseur, but I can definitely say I enjoyed my meal. I had a taste of a friend's burnt ends and it was amazing too. Although, I felt bad because it was such a small portion, so beware if you order the 1/4 pound option, I'd recommend you upgrade. As for the sides, I had the corn on the cob, baked beans, and mac and cheese - it also came with pickles, coleslaw, and cornbread. I loved my choices, but the included sides were just ok. My friends liked their meals too. Bill was a little high and we weren't amazed, but pretty satisfied overall! I would love to come back and I can only imagine it'd taste even better if we had eaten in.
Falls off the bone type good. We ordered 3 1/4 portions of the burnt tips, dry rub ribs and the brisket. The best one with the most flavor are the burnt tips! Highly recommended when it comes to choosing a meat. Mac and cheese was ok but was a bit cold when it was brought out. Fries were crisp and tasty. Will definitely come back to this place again when I'm around in Astoria again.
Technically an LIC-Flea-based reviewed, but if the food and service is consistent, then the B&M is definitely worth the trip. I ordered up the Monster - a sizable sandwich filled with 1/2 pulled pork 1/2 brisket...all nomlicious! The bbq sauce was great, the meat was plentiful, with plenty of side/condiments (slaw, onions, pickles, the works). I also ordered a side of cornbread, which wasn't too shabby - a little bit moist (for it not being of the more-pudding-type variety), but still very tasty. All n all, great food and a staple LIC Flea-go-to!
We ordered delivery 3 or so times . Considering that we live quite far delivery arrived at a reasonable time and the food was relatively warm . Now about the food . Brisket - good (my fave ) 4,5/5 pulled pork - pretty good 4/5 Wings - very weird sauce 2,5/5 Chicken - dry 2,5/5 Ribs - ok 3,5/5 Now for the sides Brussel sprouts - surprisingly good 4/5 Broccoli - too soft 2/5 Mac and cheese - where is the cheese ?! 3/5 Mashed potato w/gravy - bland 2/5
Don't get me wrong, it's great food, server was great too, but it's pretty expensive for the portions you get.
Good was good, not phenomenal, Divide was a little slow. Would go back though. Burnt ends were very good
Ordered delivery from Seamless and it got quite expensive with the additional fees and tip so I wish I’d known about the option of ordering directly from their website. I ordered the meat candy (beef burnt ends) which I loved and actually had before since i had that catered in a party i went to. I also had the fries which I thought was just average.
Pretty good!! Wasn’t really expecting much from NY southern style bbq after being disappointed so many times but this was a great surprise. The service was great! The baked mac and cheese (without the chili lol) was solid, the crispy burnt ends brisket and dry rub ribs were delicious. We got the chicken tenders to and THAT’S a good chicken tender right there. The baked beans had too much onion while the beans were undercooked. The cornbread is terrible. Hard pass. But I’m definitely coming back for those ribs burnt ends and chicken tenders !!
My fav meal are the nachos with bbq chicken!!! The bomb!! Love it. Fresh chips. Unique bbq sauce and it’s the bomb. Has a hint of whiskey in it. This is my go to when i don’t want to eat a big meal such as there 2 meat options and 2 sides. When I pick this option I have grilled chicken double unless they have burnt ends (usually later in evening they run out or burnt ends) and corn and French fries. Their macaroni and cheese has a very unique taste to it. So I get it sometimes. When I order the nachos I’ve recently gotten the chicken on the side so I have the control of how much meat I want on my chips! My photos provided will show multiple times I’ve gotten the nachos and how amazing they are prepped each time. Sometimes they have Groupons too so take advantage of it when they do! Haven’t had any issues here that I’ve been coming for 3 years now. During covid we have been ordering to go and our meals are always ready within the time frame (short amount of time) and fresh and hot. Staff are welcoming. My go to spot for nachos !! See you guys Friday! 🤤🤤
This place was awesome! The atmosphere was amazing and the staff couldn’t have been nicer!!! Every waitress we encountered was so kind and helpful and let us know of the GREAT happy hour deal ($5 beers and a free shot with every beer?? AMAZING). The food was also pretty good (Mac and cheese was best) but the atmosphere and the service are what you should really come here for.
The food was good. The portions were great but a bit pricey. Customer service was great. Unique bbq flavor. The experience is great for a first timer. Not worth a second/long trip in my opinion. The AC barely works so be prepared to sweat your a** off! They do provide outdoor dining and street parking is VERY limited. Is it worth and 1hr drive? Definitely not.
Came here on a weekday afternoon carving some southern BBQ. Due to pandemic, the initial place we had wanted to go to had closed down. This became our backup spot and we were definitely not disappointed. We were welcomed with a sign of $9.99 for a choice of their meats and 2 sides. We chose the brisket with a side of Mac and cheese, and mashed potatoes. Aside from the platter, we ordered chicken tenders that came with corn bread, cheese fries, 2 orders of half rack ribs, and candied burnt ends. None of the food was lacking in flavor. The burnt ends, I expected some charcoal burnt piece of meat, was actually a sweet delight (no burnt taste at all). The ribs literally ripped off the bone with our forks and so easy to eat. The Mac and cheese was creamy and cheesy, a perfect combo with the burnt ends. The brisket was also really tender and hardly needed the bbq sauce. Between the 4 of us we were really full, that we ended up waking the tenders home. I ate them the next day and they were still really crunchy, and the cornbread really subtle and soft. The service was great, as the waitress greeted us really nicely and were patient with us. If you are in the Astoria area, I definitely recommend you checking out Butcher Bar for some smokin’ bbq. Definitely get their burnt ends, totally was the highlight of the meal.
Some things they did well like the Brisket. It’s really good and so was the burnt ends and smoked ribs. What they didn’t do so well. They smoked wings were dry, the cornbread had no flavor and the coleslaw is mediocre. Now that I know I’ll be back for the brisket and ribs but will skip the other stuff.
Open space, good music and not obnoxiously loud. Food came out quick and was 👍🏼 Hubby got the Gimme The Beef and I got the Porky’s. Loved the burnt ends, so flavorful and tender! Brisket was a little dryer that I would’ve preferred but still good. Porky’s platter was on point! Only complaint might be that the pork belly was a bit too fatty. Mac and cheese 3/5. Queso Corn 5/5! Was stuffed by the time we were finished but hope to come back and try some dessert and additional sides!
Buttermilk chicken tenders were very good. But please give more cornbread. How can you give 3 giant pieces of chicken tenders with 1 tiny bite of cornbread? It's too much chicken as a meal. I know the store is not being stingy because the portion is great and tenders are big. But cornbread is cheap please just give us more cornbread with it to balance out the meal. My first impression of this restaurant is confusing because they clearly know how to cook their food, but they are not thinking in terms of the experience of the meal. It's basically eating 3 giant tenders and nothing else.
Coming back 4 years later after an initial stellar review, I was disappointed with some of my choices. What was good: Burnt Ends: No wonder they are award winning!! They packed with immense flavor and tenderness. This was by far the best meat of the 3. Pork ribs: They were fall off the bone and the sauce was delicious. They were flavored thoroughly. Brussel Sprouts: whoa these were out of this world good! The crunch was mastered and the glaze packed it with dynamic flavor. The Bad: Pork belly: This was the most disappointing, dry bits, not much flavor Corn bread: just bland, dry, not worth consuming Corn: it felt like it was just cooked and slathered with some mayo and tajin seasoning but there wasn't any flavor to it Mac n cheese: nothing to write home to Review from 2021: I lived in the Midwest for 8 years and have been on a quest to find some decent BBQ and Butcher Bar delivered!! First our cocktails were phenomenal- margaritas and lemonade was amazing. I haven't had cocktails these enjoyable in a while. I ordered the porky platter. It was enough to take home for seconds! The ribs were fall off the bone, juicy, finger licking good!!! Next was the pulled pork which was wonderfully seasoned and also moist. The pork belly was just okay. The corn bread pieces were moist and a good compliment to the dish. Standard cole slaw. The brussel sprouts with bacon were grilled to a nice crisp exterior, uneven salting!! But the bacon gave it a nice rich taste. I need to come back STAT!! Service was pretty bad for the outdoor dining, maybe they were busy inside!
I didn’t expect much from NYC BBQ spots, but Butcher Bar surprised me. The Gimme the Beef Platter had the burnt ends and brisket, both really tasty, with the Brussels sprouts and bacon adding a nice touch. The cornbread was okay, though not as memorable as the meats and sides. The place had a relaxed vibe, and the servers were friendly and checked in a lot. Overall, it was a good experience, and I’d come back again.
As a takeout order I got the Monster 50/50 which is half brisket half pulled pork with onions, pickles, slaw, bbq, and habanero sauce. The flavors were there, but I was disappointed with the level of cook on the brisket. It was on the dry to very dry side, cooked through and through. I’d guess it was microwaved to heat back up. Add this to the $15.99 price tag that doesn’t even come with fries. I’d give them another chance, but today was a definite miss.
I truly don't understand the hype/rave reviews. Maybe because I'm spoiled from having recently eaten barbecue in the Carolinas or maybe because I visited the restaurant on a Tuesday at 8:30pm and that's just not when they do their best work? Whatever the case, the food here felt very just "meh." But let's start with some positives: service was great. It seemed like there were only two waitstaff on the floor (one primarily at the bar), and they were doing an excellent job at handling the 6/7 seated tables, plus bar clients. Drinks came out on time, recommendations were given, orders were placed correctly. 5/5 for service. Decor and ambiance were also pretty cool; everything on par with what you'd call ~swanky BBQ joint. We loved the cleaver (?) used as the door handle. We tried: "Fall off the Bone Sauced" Smoked Ribs 1/4lb Pulled Chicken (Sauced) 1/4lb Smoked Beef Brisket Brussels Sprouts w/ Applewood Bacon Applewood Bacon Baked Beans Creamy Mac & Cheese Cornbread w/ Honey Butter House Slaw & Pickles Unfortunately, by the time we got there, the burnt ends had run out. The ribs were incredibly tender; fall-off-the-bone as promised, but not quite "sauced just right," as they were drenched in sauce. The brisket, while also tender, was lacking in flavor, and the chicken was a little dry (additionally, didn't look very much like my idea of "pulled"). Of the sides, the Brussels sprouts were hands-down my favorite and the only side I would probably order again. The mac & cheese was dry, the cornbread chewy, and the baked beans were too vinegar-y for our tastes (and we weren't expecting the big chunks of onions and peppers). Even the slaw was a disappointment, as the cabbage was shredded into large pieces and didn't really have that "wet" feel of a good, mayo-based coleslaw. To top it off, nothing came out warm; and no one really wants to eat room-temp beans, mac & cheese, or meat. So, y'know, it was "meh." I wouldn't ever make it a point to return to Butcher Bar, but if I was brought here again, I'd be able to eat an okay meal.
Overall, the food was ok. There were some winners and some losers. The burnt ends were pretty good, the fat well rendered, the brisket was too lean for my taste, and the pork belly was a disappointment. It was cut so thin that it was hard and dry. I was disappointed that the cornbread has gotten way smaller or maybe they just gave less than they used to since it was one of the things we enjoyed. The Brussel sprouts and queso street corn were both really delicious. The cheese fries were super disappointing as the fries were not fresh cut and desperately needed some color. Our server was nice but not to be found when we needed him given it was a quiet weekday and there was only one other table there. I do think it was only him and the cook there at that time so I didn’t make a big deal of it.
We ordered the butchers platter with pork belly, brisket and burnt end upgrade, with sides corn bread, Mac and cheese and cheese fries. For us the food was okay, neither good nor bad. Pork belly was nice. Brisket was quite tender but the flavor of the meat or sauce did not help. Burnt end was also okay. The lack of seasoning was clearer in the sides, especially the cornbread, which was I was looking forward to in a BBQ joint. In terms of service, it was okay, but we ordered extra cornbread since we didn’t realize the platter came with cornbread and it would have been nice to be informed of that.
Went for brunch. I had the burnt ends and scrambled eggs with a side of french toast and cornbread. The burnt ends were very good. Tender, seasoned well and not overpowered by smoke. Definitely best burnt ends I have in new york and best since I was in Texas. Didnt need extra bbq sauce but pairing it with the table habenero n sweet/spicy sauce worked well. Eggs were soft and not overdone. The french toast was good. Love when challah bread is used. Gives the toast extra body. The cornbread was surprisingly good for not being what I expected. Soft, chewy, sweet, but not too sweet, and the hint soft corn was welcoming. The butter it came with really paired well.
Overall it was good. It was nice to sit down and get service. I like the burnt ends, good fats and moist. The pull pork and brisket were a little disappointing. The servers were nice but we had to ask for everything that were usually brought to the table -- asked for menus, asked for utensils, asked for BBQ sauce that never came. Understand that the situation is difficult nowadays with outdoor seating and whatnot. Really appreciate the restaurant that opening up and serving the neighborhood. Just wanted to see the food and services getting better.
I used to go to Butcher Bar every couple months a couple years ago, and I can say the food was quite good for NYC BBQ. However, it's recently taken a serious downtown, and a delivery order I got recently was probably the worst dish I've had anywhere in years. The Korean bowl was unbearably salty, and it was practically spicy with salt. My wife and I were gulping down water for the rest of the night to rehydrate. The bacon brussel sprout side was nearly as bad. Maybe the chef smokes because that was an unbelievably salty dinner! I don't think we'll be going back or ordering from here again.
I used to really enjoy this place. Food is just ok now. But great atmosphere and still good for drinks.
The service it was great. Unfortunately I can't say the same about the food. The brisket definitely didn't spell barbecue and the sauce didn't make it much better. The pulled chicken was dry and drenched in more of that sauce. The cornbread was also dry and inedible which was disappointing because I feel you can't really go wrong with cornbread. I left very disappointed and still hungry.
Haven’t been here in a while, so I thought I’d give it another visit. Honestly, it’s quite possible since we came late at night the quality of the food wasn’t like what I remembered. Service was fine, attentive, they didn’t rush us out even though everyone that came in after us was told they were closed. Brisket- completely dried out. The brisket fell apart into shreds when I picked it up(and not in a good way) no bend no ring no bark. Almost as if it was just reheated or finished off in the oven. Sauces ribs- sauce was great, tender but def lacked moisture. Half baked Mac n cheese- was great!nuff said! Corn bread- wish there was more butter, but was great! Burnt ends- I want to sham this one, but there were some pieces on our plate that redeemed it. I’m willing to try it again under different pretenses, but last night was no it.
The server was very kind, but the food was very very disappointing. I came for lunch and got the blue plate special with brisket. Everything was room temperature and not fresh at all. I had better store bought brisket from Costco. I’m not sure if this was a one off, but when the entire meal was not fresh I assume it’s always like this.
Hey Homie! Been to your place about a dozen or so times over the past 5 years. The food is honestly mid tier bbq. Moved two blocks off 30th and almost forgot about the place completely. Speaking of forgetfulness, Butch remembering to add the right amount sauces or honey butter to a takeout bag is a pretty uncommon occurrence. I saw the owner (all the locals call him homie) does such phenomenal job handling negative feedback in a professional and respectful manner that I figure I would share my personal, less-than-ideal experiences. I don't personally know anyone who has ever left a review for this place, but be on the lookout for the owner doing his best impression of a whiny teenager in the response section while trying to suggest otherwise. If you do visit, ask homie for the brisket sandwich. It's actually pretty good if you've completely lost all sense of taste.
This place is a one and done for me and my wife. We ordered the smoked chicken wings and when I bit into the first wing, I saw red. That's not good when your eating chicken. Wings had no taste. Burgers were small and the brisket sandwich was only ok. Needless to say we will not be returning!! Unsatisfied customer Woodside
Placed an order on Uber Eats for the pulled pork Korean bowl and unfortunately, it was inedible, drenched in so much sauce that the rice and small bits of meat were completely submerged. When I called the restaurant, the first person I spoke to was kind and understanding, and offered to replace the bowl with the sauce on the side, which I appreciated. However, minutes later I received a call from someone identifying as Matt. Not only did he refuse to send a replacement, but his tone was unnecessarily hostile. He told me to take it up with Uber Eats and abruptly ended the call after speaking to me in a degrading and dismissive manner. Customer service aside, no one should be treated with such disrespect for simply asking for the meal they paid for to be edible. Hugely disappointing experience.
Love this place. Best BBQ in my part of Astoria. They are weirdly conservative with giving out their sauces though if you do delivery. It's like they actively don't want their food to taste good. Didn't have BBQ sauce at home so I had to eat my pulled pork dry. I'm trying so hard to be a regular at this place, but give me something, guys. They also weirdly gave me two packets of ketchup with my pulled pork sandwich? What am I going to do with that, man?
Ordered for delivery on Saturday night. The restaurant forgot to pack an item. When the delivery platform Uber Eats refused to give me a price adjustment, I called the restaurant for help. The manager did not apologize for the missing order. Rather she said “oh, my guy just forgot to pack it”. Then she said they can’t make price adjustments on their end and there’s nothing more they can do. Oh. Their meats (burnt ends, ribs, and pulled pork) were completely dry. 2 star for food. 1 star for customer service.
This review is specifically about the person who answered the phone on Monday, 8/4, around 6 PM. My husband had an absolutely absurd experience with her. She displayed a considerable amount of attitude and clearly needs training. My husband had ordered food but mistakenly entered the wrong delivery address, which is only about eight minutes away by car. We contacted Uber Eats, where we placed the order, and they informed us that we needed to call the restaurant directly. No problem there. When we called, the woman immediately interrupted my husband as he was trying to explain the situation. She repeatedly informed us that her delivery drivers don't go to our neighborhood. As he attempted to provide her with the correct address, she kept cutting him off, insisting that it was too far. We clarified that we don't live in the area she was assuming, but she continued to interrupt him. We have ordered from this restaurant many times before (I even checked to see if it was in fact from Uber Eats and yep, July 4th), and we were hoping for some understanding. Instead, she maintained an attitude, insisting that her drivers wouldn't deliver to us, even though it is only a 13 minute drive. When we asked what our options were, she informed us that she would be calling Uber Eats to let them know her drivers wouldn't deliver to our address. We were stunned by the unhelpfulness of the person on the other end of the line. Instead of providing solutions, such as holding the order for us, explaining any changes in their delivery parameters, or giving us the option to cancel, she offered us nothing to work with. I called Uber Eats again to express how ridiculous the situation was, and they were apologetic. They placed me on hold while they contacted the restaurant. Guess what? The representative informed us, "She will not deliver to your address, and if you cancel, you will be charged since the order has already been started." After waiting outside the other address for over 30 minutes, we realized no one was going to show up. We called just to double-check before leaving, only to be met with attitude—literally a scoff and the sarcastic remark, "You still want this?" Seriously? We would’ve canceled if we could, but it made no sense to lose money and walk away with nothing. When we finally got to the restaurant, my husband tried to speak with someone in person, hoping for some clarity—but was met with the same dismissive energy and an added “sir” that just dripped with sarcasm. He asked for our food and left, and realized once we were home that they managed to forget our baked beans. At this point, we lost our appetite. It's unfortunate because we really enjoy the food from this place, but the staff, specifically one person, left us with a bad impression. We’re not ones to leave negative reviews or create drama, but I felt it was important to share in case anyone finds themselves in a similar situation. The whole experience was chaotic, unprofessional, and left a really bad taste. I understand this review is lengthy, but I hope it illustrates the stress we experienced. The moral of the story is: if you no longer deliver to an address, that's fine! Please just cancel the order.
We went to this RUDE place,WE WERE AROUND 8 PEOPLE. WE ENTER THE PLACE TO HEAR THIS NASTY AND RUDE WOMEN SAYING WE ARE CLOSED,WE ASK WHAT TIME YOU OPEN SHE SAY 11:30AM WE LOOK AT TIME AND TIME WAS 11:23AM RED FLAG FOR US,SHE DON’T WANT OUR BUISSNESS 🤦🏾♂️GREAT SERVICE HOW DUMM YOU CAN BE LETTING PARTY OF 8 GO BECAUSE WE ENTER 5/10MNTES BEFORE THE OPENING,SHE DIDN’T EVEN SAY IF WE CAN TAKE SEAT BRUNCH WILL START AT 11:30,SO WE WALK OUT HAD GREAT TIME AT THE GRAND GREAT SERVICE GREAT FOOD,,,
Not the type to leave bad reviews. But the pork and beef we ordered was cold. Was not fresh. It was late and hungry atheist was somewhat eatable. Wine also was bad. Won't come back
Service and vibe were great—staff was friendly, music was on point. But wow… the BBQ? A shocking plot twist. Halfway through my plate I realized two things: 1) I couldn’t finish my food, and 2) maybe this place was never actually good—we were just too young back then to know any better. The ribs were so dry they could have been jerky, the burgers tasted like cafeteria lunch with onions, pork belly forgot what seasoning was, and the candy burnt ends… well, they were just burnt. Kind of wild this was once our go-to. My friend’s birthday turned into a nostalgia-crushing taste test of reality. We left full of sadness, not brisket
Today I went durning happy hour at 3:29. happy hour was over at 3:30. I asked to speak to the manager since they didn’t want to honor it. To my surprise I was talking to the manager. The store was completely empty seemed like you was losing business and on top of that the manager walked in after me, he wasn’t even in the store.
Recently the food has gone downhill. I did a pick up tonight and the half baked Mac and cheese felt gritty and tasteless without any of the cheesy and creamy delicious texture I’ve come to love. The butcher bowl mashed potatoes were like glue and not good at all. I hope they see this and try and do better
I’ve been here many times, but today the meat was tasteless. I ordered my food and I was on the phone, yet the girl behind the bar came to my table four times in 20 minutes and kept staring at me from behind the counter instead of finding something else to do. It wasn’t busy, but she made me feel rushed and uncomfortable. I couldn’t even enjoy my food with that energy.
