Family burger place that is kinda nondescript. But man oh man is it good. The people are very friendly too. Small beer and wine bar. They make these little deep fried Mac and cheese balls that are very good. Great "A" town burger.
After a long week at camp we made a pit stop on our way home to this place. The options were many, the food was delicious and the employees were cool. We enjoyed kids meals, huge burgers (Cali & Jalapeño) fries, milk shakes & beer, of course. All of which very flavorful and delicious. We will definitely be back in the near future. Sorry forgot to take food pictures.
Stopped for lunch on a road trip. Delicious burgers and fries. Very fresh ingredients. Great prices, friendly service.
Fantastic burgers, amazing fries, and delicious shakes, I highly recommend coming here, you won’t regret it! It can be a little pricey and occasionally the wait times can be a little annoying, but most of the time isn’t an issue, but eve when it is, its still100% worth it. Go make your day a little better and grab a burger from this place, and if you’re feeling adventurous, try the pickle fries, always tasty.
Best grilled chicken sandwich I've had in a long time . Their burgers and fries are excellent too.. fresh and real ingredients, cooked by people who seem to care. Not the cheapest around but reasonable considering the quality .By far the best I've had in a long time.!
Well it was awesome! Burger was great!, Root beer float great! Chili fries great! Shared one medium Burger and still couldn't eat it all. Staff was wonderful. No fast food place but made great food fast. Will be back first time there
First time here & it did not disappoint! Big juice hamburgers & crisp fries were delicious. We will be back & I highly recommend this place.
Not from the area, stopped by on a whim. The menu here is pretty focused, so don't expect to order much beyond a burger, fries, and a drink. They're very good, though. One of the best Mushroom Swiss burgers I've ever had.
Best food find in years. Cardiac Trail and Roper burgers hands down amazing, fries were fresh and well seasoned, the mac and cheese bites were ridiculously delicious. Beers on tap were on point. Got cheese curds and mac and cheese bites to go for later tonight. Were told to try the beer battered fries next time, can’t wait to go back!
The best burger I have ever had! I had the Western States BBQ burger & fries which comes with a pickle. The buns are toasted and everything I had was made to perfection. The staff was really kind and welcoming as well which made for a great all around experience. I’ll be back!
This place is amazing. Inexpensive burgers that you can customize is so many ways. The food comes out perfectly cooked, hot and fast. They also have a few beers on tap that are affordable and rotate. Staff was friendly and knowledgeable. There is also a quaint like 50's vibe to the place that makes you want to stay and hangout.
Man I was BLOWN away by this place truly a great burger joint. The food was hot, flavorful, and man this burger patties were thick and JUICY. They customized my order nicely, and the food came out nice and quick. Onion rings were premium quality, as well as their fries. Will def be coming back.
Local Heroes is the go-to for a great burger! They also have a great selection of beer on tap. Highly recommend the Damn Burger, but my wife loves the Roper. Can't go wrong with any of them.
Recommended by the Flotation Spa on Auburn Folsom rd. Now Recommended by me. Great customer service. We ordered the plain burger with mushrooms and marinated grilled chicken breast sandwiches. Moist and delight. The French fries were crispy. Yummy Root beer float. I will be returning. PS. Scooter is welcoming.
Great place with a great burger. Ordered the jalapeno burger with ghost pepper cheese instead of the regular pepper jack. It was super spicy and super delicious. I also recommend the sweet potato fries and onion rings. The beer selection was good with several local brews. It's also right next to a gas station, and easy to get to off the freeway, which is very convenient when coming home from Tahoe. I'm definitely coming back here instead of going to in-n-out. Oh, and the reason I went here instead of in-n-out is the person I was traveling with wanted a veggie burger. While I didn't personally taste it, it was apparently quite good. He got the black bean burger, so I can recommend that too.
Meals are excellent! Service is always friendly. Don't expect a fast food restaurant, these burgers are a much higher quality and take a few minutes, but very well worth the wait. My favorite is the dark meat turkey burger with avocado! In a hurry? Call ahead.
I was across the street ordering eyeglasses and mentioned I was starving. The optician recommended I come here for lunch, especially since they run on limited hours. She encouraged me to give it a try and I was not disappointed!! I love how people in Auburn recommends local businesses they like. The sense of community is really great. I got my glasses & I got fed. I’m a happy camper.
I was up in cool visiting friends and we stoped here to get a bite. There menu had many special burgers. I just got a simple bacon cheeseburger. And I have to say it was VERY tasty. Cooked perfect med well. Just a hint of pink in it. It was juicy as all out. From first look the burger looks small. But it is an illusion. They just use the perfect sized bun . So no bread only bites. There fries were great also. It was 20$ for my burger, fries and a large soda that I got a refill. Well it was 16$ and change but I threw the change from 20 in the tip jar. Anytime I'm in Auburn I will most definitely eat there again, that's for sure.
Just left our first visit to Local Heroes and WOW! My hubby got the A-Town and I got the lettuce wrapped Roper. Both were perfection! The onion rings were exactly how an onion ring should be - perfectly fried beer batter. The onions were soft, but not mushy. The sweet potatoes fries were honestly the best I've ever had - crispy on the outside and creamy soft on the inside. We had heard great things about this joint and now we are one of the many fans. We went early to avoid the usual line out the door. We'll definitely be back! I can't wait to try the fried pickles!
We love this place. We come here anytime we are in town since we are from Reno. Food and service are great!
This place has one of the best garden burgers I have ever had. This burger spot was on our way home from a nice day of hiking. Loved the food, especially their fried pickles and the fact they are pet friendly. It's a small menu but great food.
Just went to this place for the first time today. I am working locally for a day or so more. After entering the place I was greeted very warmly by the staff. I asked for recommendations. I was told that the fried jalapeño burger was good. So I ordered that and was shocked. It was the best burger I have ordered. Perfectly cooked and the taste was amazing. I want to say everyone needs to try this place at once. I'll def come back again!
What a great find this place is. We had several burgers all were really good. I really enjoyed the buffalo cauliflower. Sweet potato fries were great too. I especially liked the price 2.00 fries is unheard of. If I am ever in Auburn again you will be my go to place!!
Best burgers in town. Great price as of writing this review compared to everything else out there.
Eat local or go home! That's my motto, cuz I'd rather eat here coming home from Tahoe than the other "chain." Simply put, the burgers are top notch, the staff has always been extremely friendly, got a good small variety of craft beer and they are pooch mega friendly. No brainier, this is the spot to eat coming down the hill and you're supporting a locally owned business instead is a corporate chain.
I had the Dam Burger with Sweetpotato Fries. Absolutely wonderful! Asked for my fries to be on the crispy side, and I got exactly that. No wimpyness like Sweetpotato fries can be. PERFECT! Thanks for the great lunch and friendly bantering. 😉😊
One of the better burgers in the whole greater sac region. Definitely the best fries for miles. I highly recommend this spot. Don't waste your time with the burger joints closer to the freeway. Drive the extra few minutes over here, your welcome
Amazing local burger joint. So good! I really appreciate that they have a few non meat patties options. We used to live in town and it’s so nice to get to still eat here when we come back to visit.
Fresh delicious food and reasonably priced Beer battered fries were very good
First time here. Came because all of the positive reviews and it did not fail me. Best burgers, fries, chicken strips, and even homemade sauces ever. The customer service was immaculate as well. Special thank you Makayla and Anthony. They are so sweet and kind! Literally make me want to come back because they were just that great of people. This location is blessed to have these two working here. Whether you’re passing by or from here please stop by you won’t regret it. The hour drive was well worth it.
Their burgers are the bomb! Probably about the best I have ever had. The cheese bites and sweet potatoes fries are excellent as well. Service has always been great since I found this little gem. If I'm correct, I believe they serve a selection of beers, IPA's and ales as well. If you want a great burger, don't pass this place up.
My kiddos wanted to get out of town so we headed up the hill. Burgers were on their radar so we searched what was available and we randomly stopped here. There was a light show parade going on which the kids thought was cool. I really didn’t have high hopes as too many highly rated burger joints in Sacramento can’t get it right (when did people forget to season meat?!?). But we were all blown away. Perfectly seasoned (FINALLY) and cooked burgers. Burger was very tasty, and melted in your mouth. Veg was fresh and crisp. Incredible fries and shakes that tasted home made. The 1/3 burger with medium fries was spot on for serving size. Sure the place could use a coat of paint and some upkeep. But the burgers are bargain priced the staff super friendly. This is now my fave burger joint outside NYC.
Amazing burgers and fries. Needs a bigger location because they are so good! It is hard to find proper sweet potato fries and onion rings. Have to say, that problem is now solved with these guys!
If you want a good local burger, this is the spot! The prices are great and the staff (though light) is great. Food quality is always great and portion sizes are perfect. Very filling and the patio is nice when the weather is good. The pickle fried and mac and cheese bites are also a must! Don't sleep on this place, get your burger fix and support our local business.
Great burgers and sides. The staff is wonderful and the place has a really nice layout. Recommend stopping by here when you want gourmet burgers.
Great tasting burgers 🍔 !! Friendly and courteous staff! Planning to return more frequently!
This place is the bomb!! After a long days hike, stopped here for a burger and a shake,...off the hook! Hand scooped ice cream shakes, burgers to die for, and killer onion rings. You cant go wrong with this place. Nice atmosphere, friendly service. If you find yourself in Auburn CA., definitely look this place up.
Awesome burgers at a super reasonable price. I'm so glad we stopped in here after our hike at China Bar. Super friendly staff and they have a decent selection of good beer on tap. This is a new favorite for my wife and I.
Quick friendly service, great burgers and fries. The prices aren't outrageous like some places nowadays.
Staff was super friendly, and the burgers were so good! They do not skimp on the burger toppings or sauces. Beer battered fried were delicious
We regularly make the 20 minute drive here because they make the best burgers around. They have always been juicy and cooked perfectly. The chicken tenders have also been hot and fresh made every time. And to top it off, the chocolate banana shake is fantastic. The staff has been great every time as well. We'll keep coming back.
What a great burger, had the California burger and onion rings that were outstanding, great place to eat for lunch and a great menu, prices were good for hamburgers, I'll be back.
This pla e has one of the BEST Bergers I have ever had. I'm 68 years young and had a lot of Bergers in my life. It's totally worth looking this place up, and you need to go there.
This is a small local Auburn business. The owner cooked the food for us with a smile and great customer service! Came here with kids, and they loved the burgers, too. The price is a little expensive, but it's worth it. Got pickled fries. you must try if you are adventurous. Free parking on the back, and great sitting indoor and outside. Great jewel of Aulburn!
Local Heroes are truly taste bud heroes! Absolutely the best burgers I've ever had! And the fries are packed with home feel flavor. I got the confluence and an orange float while my wife got the California and a chocolate strawberry shake blended with real strawberries! We will definitely be making a quick return and intend to try everything on their menu. As the cook said, "You know what's on it? Stuff is on it!" And that's all you really need to know because whatever you get is gonna be AMAZING!!!
Unfortunately my burger was super salty and greasy tonight, our large fries seemed like a small portion. The milkshake was delicious though. Usually their food is amazing
I called in ahead to place an order to pick up. They were so busy they set the phone down. I waited 5 minutes to place my order. But it was ready when I arrived 12 min later. Great burgers. Shakes are made from soft serve ice cream. Still working out the kinks of this new business, up beat and hard working staff.
Love this place & usually a a great experience except the time they forgot my ranch lol. But today a little extra bummed bc I paid for an add-on of bacon and got home to find the burger without. :( Still will likely be back. But hope that extra charge pays off. It’s not cheap to eat out & support local businesses these days so setting a high expectation seems pretty fair. Hoping it was just overlooked via the rush of families that came after my order.
Great food! It's pricey for what you're getting. It's a restaurant style burger with a restaurant style price. They got beer on tap and great sweet potato fries. Wife loves the shakes too. But if you're in a hurry don't bother. Food takes a long time because they make it fresh. Again good food but expensive for sure. I know they donate some of their profits too so maybe it's a great way to give back by eating a big burger.
The burgers are great! The fries and ranch were the best! It’s a typical burger stand type of place. You order at the counter and they call your name when it’s ready. You seat yourself. Nothing fancy but I didn’t expect it to be. They should have some music on so you don’t hear everything everyone is talking about but otherwise great food.
This is a great place to get a burger and fries. Just don't catch them on a bad day. Occasionally, the fries are a little too oily.
This place was BUSY when we were here this time. Our onion ring weren't warm when we got our burgers, and some little food safety things I noted as someone who works in a restaurant myself. The avocado was forgotten on my burger. BUT the burgers were great. The male chef who gave me the missing avocado for my burger was awesome and very apologetic for forgetting. The person who took my order was great. I understand places have off nights. We'll be back and expect better next time. Maybe we'll go earlier in the night.
Food was excellent. The best burgers and pickle fries I've eaten in quite a while! Took off a star because there was a "heavy traffic" feel overall. It needs a refresh. The tabletop was warn down. The restroom was dingy and needed attention. A quick tidy, and a little more personality could go a long way.
After a morning hike in Colfax, California, we found ourselves absolutely starving for a satisfying burger. That's when we stumbled upon Local Heroes in Auburn—and we were lucky enough to walk right up to the counter without a wait. We went for the California Burger, topped with pepper jack cheese, crispy bacon, and avocado. It was, without a doubt, fantastic—juicy, flavorful, and perfectly balanced. Being a fan of fried pickles, I couldn’t resist ordering a small order, along with a side of onion rings. Both were crispy, hot, and the perfect accompaniment to our burgers. The service was quick, and everything was served fresh and delicious. If you’re ever in the area and craving a top-notch burger or simply a great variety of options, Local Heroes is definitely worth a visit. Plus, they’ve got a selection of local beers on draft, so you can enjoy a cold one to pair with your meal. Highly recommended!
The staff takes a very long time to make the food. The food costs a lot of money. The burgers are massive! The shakes are good! The staff is nice! If your kid goes there for lunch they have to get there fast because they take forever to make your food. Thanks for reading my review!
50/50 at best. I was having my last meal before starting my Keto program and intermittent fasting and a big, juicy cheeseburger was how I wanted to go out. I had only tasted fries from Local Heroes before and after reading how great their burgers were, I thought I had chosen wisely. My daughter had also ordered a cheeseburger as well, sans the bun. Her burger was perfectly cooked, she had ordered the A Town. I ordered the Super Hero with no substitutions. Additionally, I ordered fries and onion rings. My burger was so red in the middle it was still cold and soft. I was never asked how I wanted it cooked and in most cases, fast food restaurants cook them well done. I traditionally order mine medium rare, but happily eat well done, however, rare is not on my menu. My onion rings were cooked okay, but lacked seasoning. The fries were average. We were also given ranch that was thin and flavorless. I would have been happy to call back and ask for a replacement, but they were closed. We put it in as a to-go order at 7:25, picked up at 7:50 and they were closed by 8. By the time my daughter brought the food home, they were already closed. Customer service was friendly over the phone and the prices would have been fair if it was cooked and seasoned properly. My suggestion: be specific when ordering and if it is a to-go order, check it before leaving and skip the ranch unless you like bland, watery dressing. Not how I wanted to begin my new diet, and now it's too late to get a do over!!
The service was okay. They got my order right & the shakes were delicious!! I got a banana shake & my friend had an Oreo shake, both were so good. There was one staff member who was especially pleasant & an absolute joy to interact with. I believe she was the gal that made the shakes, her name is Cassandra & her bright smiling face alone is reason enough for me to go back again. The food was okay, except for the 2 human hairs that I found in my burger!! I couldn't eat it after that of course. Which I want too upset about bc like I said it was just okay. My friend also found a human hair in her burger as well!! My Husband's burger however was delicious & hair free, which was nice. 😳 I know that things happen & I don't want to judge this place on this single experience, so I think I will return & try a different burger next time. I had the blue cheese burger, my Husband had the Auburn something, & my friend had the bacon avocado. The sweet potato fries were okay, the onion rings were okay, but the french fries were really good. We'll see if it's better next time. Hopefully Cassandra is working when we go back, she's so sweet.
Cute local spot the food wasn't bad, but I had high expectations as it was recommended to me. The chili cheese fries were good. The burger was average. The cardiac burger is extremely spicy. Cute bar area and small burger place vibes. I am not fond of the idea of tipping at a place where you serve yourself, clean up after yourself, pour your own water, etc. Busy place every time I tried to use the one bathroom it was taken. I will definitely try this place again. Maybe the burger was off the day I came in.
I appreciate the message of this restaurant, being the support of service men and women, but when you order a gluten free bun on something, and it’s not, it’s a big mistake. Even after repeating the order on the phone and in person before departure, it’s still wrong. I guess I have to check the order in the wrapper before leaving. The phone service is an immediate “please hold” with a dead silence of five minutes, yet the place had one party when we arrived and left with the order. When you pay $32 bucks for a few burgers, and you give a tip (not knowing they wrecked your toilet for the night), which is annoying. Can’t take that back lol. I’ll go again, but come on. Do a little better boys.
Drive up to auburn and really wanted local hero’s. Tried to call and order to go and was told they’re closing soon. So I guess I couldn’t order. I mean y’all close at at 8… on a Saturday night. I get it nobody wanted someone close to closing but y’all close so early already.
I suppose I should edit this for clarity. The food is great. Good selection of beers. And not that I'm depending on it, but when I asked if there was a veterans/service/police/fire discount (I was a firefighter in the Navy) on Veterans Day, I was met with a blank stare. So I repeated the question without the discount portion... Still nothing. The lack of discount is ok, I don't expect that in most places out west, but not knowing it was Veterans Day? Come on. Reached out to the owners via email with no reply. It was strange. I work a block away and unfortunately have not been back since based on the lack of response.
Love the food and this used to be my favorite place when I was younger, as I got older I've learned more about peoples energy and how your supposed to work in customer service because I have work in customer service, the only nice person here is the old guy. The other staff on the other hand are very snappy and rude, they mess up a lot and then blame the customers and I have also had friends that work here saying they have major health violations quite often and the boss is extremely rude and treats customers how no persom should treat another in general and it is completely unprofessional. I don't know how this place hasn't been shut down yet though.
Horrible service the lady that worked there aggressively shoved the fries to my friend because the worker gave her the wrong size.
I tried this place and found their burgers to be overpriced and underflavored (yes, fight me Auburn Journal and everyone who doesn't know what good food tastes like). They are only successful because high schoolers don't have enough experience to become foodies yet, unless you live somewhere like Chicago. I wrote a similar review to this one on Facebook and the owner stalked me for several months, trying to cause arguments and drama on my few public posts. I'm sure this will not change the opinion of many about this place, but I don't care. Everyone on the planet could love eating here and I would still repeat my experience to everyone I came across.
First of all, food is wonderful! Service... always have had issues. Today was my last visit unfortunately. When I arrived with my family, there were two parties in front of us. I known the cadence is usually slow for taking orders. We had the chance to place the order and with the order, we had ordered 2 beers. She let me know she would be right with us at the bar they pour the beers. She had another group to take an order from behind us. I completely understood the wait. Once she finished the group, I had been waiting for 7 minutes while my family sat down. She then pulled the tips out of the jar and started counting them... I kindly asked if she was able to pour the beers. She replied "I'll be right with you". She continued to count the tips and split them up (I had just put $10 in there). After 3 more minutes and getting rather impatient with her lack of care that I was waiting for her to pour the beer (10 minutes waiting now) I asked again, this time directly asking if she can pour the beers so I can go sit down with my family. Again "I have to finish this, I'll be right with you" she replied. Two minute later she came around to pour the beers and was obviously upset with me. She went on a bit of a rant of why she had to count the tips to split up between the employees that were getting off because it's the law. Also told some other reasons that had nothing to do with her cashiering... why would she not take a couple minutes to pour two beers after I have been patiently waiting and then count the tips? I live here in town and given this place chance after chance. Today was my last. Bums me out.
Food was average but still good, the no refills buy a large sign was weird. I bought my wife and I both large drinks that were about $4-5 a piece and to not be able to get a refill is insane. To have these taquerias in town (such as one nearby: Taqueria La Herradura) offer free refills but a classic American burger joint be cheap about it is wild. The large fries were about the size of an in n out fry too. I get the tray is physically bigger but definitely was not filled as one would expect. Overall D+ grade burger joint.
Good food, horrible service. Some nice workers but a couple rude ladies, said thank you and didn't even get a you're welcome or smile. Shoves food at people. Honestly horrible please get new staff!!
