Always love the beers at Prison City. Their hazies, most famously Mass Riot, are always delicious.
As Pub Burger connoisseur I can tell you there's none better. I have to drive an hour and a half to partake, worth every minute of it.
My bf and I had our anniversary date here, it was both our first time. Had an incredible experience between the service and the food. Our waiter James was amazing and served great in the rain. The food was delicious - we got the pub pretzel, pub burger, beer-ia tacos, and poutine. My bf got one of the beers and really enjoyed it, and the locally made soda was delicious. Highly recommend!!
This was my first time visiting this restaurant. Today was my birthday, so my husband and I came here to celebrate. Coming here was a wonderful experience! The food was delicious (I recommend the chicken arugula sandwich. It's a grilled chicken patty on an open faced sandwich)! I also liked our server Chad. He did a great job serving us! I would love to come back here again in the future and would recommend it to everyone!
Vegan options on the menu are excellent! Staff is also very knowledgeable about their offerings and can let you know what other items can be easily modified. All staff are courteous and knowledgeable. When the weather is nice there is some outside seating. The bathrooms are clean.
My kiddo and I decided last minute to come explore Auburn: museums and some boarding on the lake. I am a History Teach in Rochester and also serve/manage a top 10 eatery called CRISP Rochester where we have the Mass Riot which is a favorite beer at our great eatery. We stopped in for some eats and had the best service with Ashley! When we first got there the place was hopping and she had tables inside and outside. She checked in with us and told us she'd be right with us...and she did just that. It slowed down toward the end of our stay and she was extremely helpful with our questions about the area. You should ask for her when you visit, and this comes from someone born and raised in the industry. Ashley thank you so much for making our dinner and experience special. 🫶
I had my rehearsal dinner for my wedding at The Armory speakeasy and it was amazing! I was in awe of the venue and so were my guests. It was beautifully decorated and exceeded all expectations. They were so helpful in creating my menu and my guests loved the food and drinks. I would highly recommend Prison City!
Unique building - so fun! Tge,food was wonderful - super creative. Waitstaff ( shout out to Kate) was terrific. Will definitely go again.
We visited Bass Pro then the whole family went to Prison City Pub and Brewery and all liked everything about it. Great all around.
We were in the area visiting the Harriet Tubman House and needed lunch beforehand. Typical gastropub vibe and friendly staff. Service was quick. Pork Belly Lollipops were amazing, I wanted to order more to go!
I am embarrassed that I did not get his name, but our waiter had blonde curly hair and a ball cap ,was amazing. My cousin and I were reuniting over dinner having so many laughs. We are both very sarcastic and the waiter had a great time with us. I didn’t particularly care for the French onion soup, which is one of my favorites. He took it off the bill. No question asked my steak was fabulous and my cousin‘s food was fabulous highly recommend again. I wish I would’ve gotten the waiters name.❤️
I go a fee times a year and I never disappoints. Had the Salmon BLT and a crispy boy. Perfect combo.
Amazing quality in beer, food, and service. The waiters and waitresses are always in the know about what they serve, and are able to help when you're undecided. There is a great range of beer from both Prison City, as well as guest beers. The food ranges from standard pub fare to daily specials, most pushing what you find in other places with both quality and freshness. I highly recommend them for any beer or pub food lover.
Nothing short of amazing! This is a must stop if your in the area... Awesome Burger, Friendly staff, and an excellent brew ... And a shout out to the City of Auburn for placing stickers over the meters and giving " complimentary 2 hours of FREE Parking... A City that gets it is nice for a change... ( Syracuse are YOU listening???)
First time here with my fiancé, we sat at the bar and had max as a bartender. He was awesome and made us feel so comfortable, really well educated on his job with a passion. He deff made the experience a ten! Food was amazing as well! We will deff be back!
Prison City is an great pub and brewery! Their beer is excellent and the food is fantastic as well. The "Riot in" series is always stellar and Prison City's stouts are some of the finest I've had the pleasure of enjoying. This spot is worth a trip in itself but it's even better if you're coming through the area and stumble across it.
Delicious food and beer!! The service was excellent as well! I will be coming back soon for the poutine! One of the best I have ever had!
I recently had the chicken and waffles at brunch with some friends. It was so delicious that we remarked we couldn't imagine having any better anywhere. Plus, the amount of gravy was just right, rather than too little or too much. We also sampled some beers and were very happy with the range of choices.
Fantastic little place! This is definitely worth a visit. 5 stars Food=A+ Selection=A Atmosphere=A Beer options+quality=A+ Service=A+ Menu was good and the quality of the beer was really good. I've been to many brewpubs and craft breweries and the flavor of these beers was amazing. Nice menu options. I had the pork schnitzel sandwich and it was one of the best I've had in a long time, very different flavors that all went well together. Had alot of nice dishes and decision making was tough! Also had poutine, their gravy was unique and was really tasty. Prices were very reasonable. I will absolutley be back when I visit Auburn again.
We really enjoyed our first visit. The staff, especially our server, were very welcoming and friendly. They offer a great selection of craft beers they brew. The menu had some interesting choices. Our selections were very good. I liked the steam punk like decor and that they offer outside seating. A really cool fun place to get some good food and great beer!
Really cool place. Staff was awesome to deal with. And the food was excellent!!!
Great local brewery with a fun concept. Really nice patio outside to enjoy the nice weather. I am told their beer was delicious. They had a lot of gluten free canned cocktails to choose from and they were very tasty. We also enjoyed some kettle corn while we enjoyed our drinks. They also have their own dog biscuits which I picked up for someone as a gift. Very friendly and helpful bartenders.
Old school pub atmosphere. The service was great, I ended up grabbing a fried chicken plate and was surprised how good a chicken plate could be!
2nd time visiting Prison City. Great place and location. Parking is a bit hard to find, but spend a few minutes looking and its worth the stop. Food is fantastic. Had the cheese curds, crispy chicken sandwich, and the jalapeño grilled cheese. Many beer, cocktail choices. The Moonshine lemonade was great! Service was phenomenal as well.
Came on a Tuesday night and the pub was packed. Definitely telling of a great place. The food was excellent but they do like their spice- if they warn you it's spicy they mean it! The beer was some of the best I've had. Max was an awesome bartender and super informative. Really enjoyed my dinner and drinks!
We travel frequently from CT to Ontario and are always on the lookout for good rest stops near i-90 for lunch. This time, we hit the jackpot! Prison City not only has great beer (4.0+ on Untapped) but also amazing food. Service was lightning fast even though the place was 90% full. It took no time to get a table and drinks came out almost instantly. Their Pale Ale are phenomenal. They also have a couple of great stouts and Berliners. For food, we had chickpea fries, grilled cheese with Mac and cheese side, and the Seitan salad. All were well worth the cost. I would definitely stop here again.
This was not a place I'd generally choose for girls night out with limited interest in beer. But it was a great choice for after 7 pm on a Friday. The stout and poutine started us off right. I had and enjoyed the pub burger. others had the beef sub and the Shepherds pie and roasted carrots. a unique menu, don't write it off just because you're not a drinker. We also came here for Father's day a couple years back. great environment. wheelchair accessible. great handicap parking on the nearby side street.
My friends and I finally made our long overdue trip to prison city and it was well worth the drive. I'll start with the obvious, the beer. There was an awesome selection of beers representative of most if not every popular category. They have IPAs, and NE PA, and stouts, and fruit beers, and even a sour. All were excellently done. One of the beers was made with a hops from Japan I'd never had and was flavored with dill ... Yes, that dill. I was pleasantly surprised. The ambiance is so cool. It's an open modern industrial feel with splashes of prison thrown in for effect. Even down to the point of one of the doors to get down to the basement looks like a sliding jail cell door. It was cool to just stand back and take it all in, while taking in a beer of course, when we were waiting on our table. Finally let's talk about the food. I want to mention the only negative thing we experienced while there and that's the wings. We tried all 3 flavors and the flavor was quite good. However the wings were breaded which was a downer but we also ordered them extra crispy (typically 120 seconds longer in the fryer) and these were just kinda mushy. "Crispy" is not a word I'd use to describe them. If management sees this review please consider doing traditional, non-breaded wings, or just remove the wings completely. Anyway, moving past the wings let's talk about that burger. Hands down one of the best burgers I've ever had. The meat is local grass fed beef. All the ingredients seemed high quality, including that delicious soft bun. There was several minutes of grunts and groans as we each were biting into those burgers. I'm not going to take off a star for the wings. Everything else was so good it seems silly to subtract for something which is easily corrected. Just avoid the wings and you'll be all set.
Great selection of tasty craft brews and excellent food. The restaurant decor is based on historic prison theme. A few guest drafts are generally available as well. They are very popular so food and beer options seem to frequently be unavailable off the menu. I've been twice and still not tried the IPA :) even so you will enjoy regardless as they have a good variety of beers for different tastes; all I've tried have been excellent. Quite a good selection of very delicious vegan/vegetarian options as well as meat. The salads and appetizers are really good. The schnitzel burger is more like a deep fried pork chop, much thicker than I expected for schnitzel. I recommend the vegan cuban and brussel sprout appetizer. Some metered street parking is available nearby. Outdoor seating is available.
I was visiting some friends and we went here for lunch. The place was great. I love the food and the vibe. The waitress I do not know her name. But she was amazing she helped us with the menu and made sure we had an awesome time. She suggested that I get the ranch dipping sauce with the cheese curds cuz they get a bit spicy as you eat them. That was a great tip. They were my fav and I loved the fries too.
First visit. Service was fantastic. I brought the family along with two grandkids and the hostess hit a home run with a bucket of Legos to start. Food was good with a nice variety and kids meals were awesome. Refills came without asking which is always appreciated with little ones. Food came out quickly with everything as it was described. Great beer selection. When I'm back in town I'll visit again.
Even with a 40 minute wait on a Friday night, the food was delicious as always. The cocktail I ordered was missing a garnish, but not a biggie. Waitress was attentive.
I tried the crispy chicken sandwhich, which was really good. It was a breaded, fried, & pickle brined chicken breast, smoked gouda cheese, bacon, lettuce, tomato, chipotle mayo. I was happy to find that the sandwhich was not dried out. I tried their IPA Prison City Mass Riot and found it to be so refreshing.
2nd time here, brought my father who is very much a critic when it comes to food and even he was very happy with his dinner! We were seated in the corner in the gift shop so it wasn't the most comfortable but I assume that's because of social distancing mandates so I'm not mad. I ordered the pretzel sticks and the harvest grilled cheese and both dishes were amazing!
Ate here twice in 2019 and again in July 2023. One of my husband's favorite breweries in the area. All the meals were excellent! This time we brought two other couples who also thoroughly enjoyed their beer and Meals. You did not disappoint!!
Delish grilled burgs actually cooked medium!! Toppings were perfect, bacon was great... This is the place for GREAT wings!!!
First time guest at PCP and I’ll definitely returning. Superb service from bartender Max. Awesome job at helping me choose a beverage and it was perfect. I ordered a burger and was able to easily build it to my liking (that alone is 5stars) fresh cut fries daily were excellent. All around great company from the patrons to the workers. Kudos to all! Awards well deserved 🏆
Great place! We were looking for a restaurant between Rochester and Syracuse to meet up with some friends and decided to try out Prison City Pub. The location was great, the staff was friendly, and the food was yummy! They have a good selection of choices, I got a coffee and the fish and chips, delicious. Would totally come back again and recommend to anyone looking for a good place to meet up!
Located in the restaurant district of Auburn, NY, this establishment was friendly and unique. They had a variety of items on the menu besides the traditional burgers. I had a noodle salad. On a beautiful day, we are outside; however the inside was very interesting. They even had a downstairs room that was a "speak easy" in it's day. I highly recommend this restaurant.
Did you know there is a prison in this town? Like, smack dab in the middle of town. You can see it from this pub and brewery, which luckily doesn't follow the archaic Auburn System of total silence and lockstep. Instead, it's a bar, so make some noise and be glad you’re not incarcerated. Meanwhile, try the beers here. For example: HEF (Hefeweizen), Perpetrator (Doppelbock), Sad Devotion to Ancient Religion (Schwarzbier), and the best of the bunch Illusion of Knowledge (pale ale). Stickers? You betcha. Solid sticker game.
We came to Prison City to try a few beers and get a small snack before driving back to our Airbnb on Seneca. We are fortunate enough to have Prison City beer distributed to SE Pennsylvania so I was familiar with their stuff before coming here. The beers were all very good and I would have taken some home but I didn’t have a cooler. We ordered fries and the Brussels sprouts just to help absorb the beer. Both were very good. The mustard on the Brussels sprouts was the standout for us.
Stopped by prison city for brunch (dinner was too busy to get in!) and it was definitely worth the hype. We had a group of 9 and the service was outstanding. I wish I grabbed the name of our server to write because she did an amazing job. The food was great with some fun twists. I got the breakfast bowl and pulled pork cinnamon buns and liked both. This place is worth a stop if you find yourself in Auburn. The prices are also extremely reasonable.
Prison City has locked me up and I hope they throw away the key! What a wonderfully delicious lunch we had that put my taste buds under arrest. Truly, it was a fantastic lunch, went on a Saturday shortly after opening and somehow got a table right away. Expect wait times and you should wait, it's so worth it! The place is really chill inside with a solid welcoming vibe. The staff was helpful and kind. Service was fast but not rushed. We enjoyed a local soda, the buffalo cauliflower perogies, a crispy chicken sandwich, a power salad and something I don't remember the name of. All of it was incredibly delicious, bringing happy taste buds and tummies to everyone. If all the other reviews didn't convince you. What the heck are you waiting for... Enjoy!!
The whole vibe of this place was awesome. We aren't drinkers, so I can't speak to the brewery side of things...but the legit pub feel came thru loud and clear from the punk garage band music to the worn wood floors to the rustic steel boxes holding the napkins & silverware on the real wood tables. Our server was kind and bubbly and friendly. We had the pork fried rice and beef tip plates with poutine as a starter. Everything was SO FILLING and so good! Next time, maybe skip the starter, share a plate, and try dessert. 🥰
We were in town for a wedding and decided to visit their Auburn location. The food is very diverse in its options, same as the beer. Everything was very good and service was nice. Comfy atmosphere. I wish there was a little more space in some of the seating areas but all in all a good time. If you’re in town you’ll definitely want to go to Prison City Pub!
Stopped at Prison City on our brewery tour of the area. Easily the BEST ONE we visited! The beers were well crafted, and the food was the best of our day by far. While busy on a Saturday afternoon, the staff was excellent and the service was great. The only complaint was that they had almost no merchandise left so we could proudly advertise for this above average gem. This review will have to do. EXCELLENT!!
Beers are exceptional, and the atmosphere is great. The food is just ok, but we plan to give it another chance. Hopefully, it will be better next time. I had the risotto, it was mushy and only tasted like chicken bouillon. Someone else in my party got the sirloin tips, the steak was delicious, but the sauce was bland, as if it was from a can. I hope the chef works on his skills 🙌 I like their beer a lot, but I also want to have a nice meal to pair it with.
This was the downtown location. Had my favorite beer. The fries were fine, but the chicken sandwich was pretty pathetic. Wife said the tacos were good. Next time I would visit their new location.
Excellent beer. My lobster roll special tasted good but wasn't much to it, only a little bit of lobster and kind of expensive for what it was. Been here a few times before, normally. Very good food. The place overall is good though, I recommend going.
Always enjoy the pub. Like the somewhat steam punky decor and the service is superb, warm and friendly. The menu is somewhat out of the ordinary, which I like, I mean you can get ordinary anywhere. Prices are very reasonable and the food is good! Great way to have a morning/afternoon brunch!
Came in with my family (parents, siblings, and their significant others) to try their beers while I was aiming at lunch. Our server, whose name escapes me, was really good at figuring out beers for my brother in law. Certain keywords, he said, told her that he should try what she brought out to him. I got the fish sandwich with Nashville Hot Dauce and their kimchi slaw and a side of poutine. Their poutine was alright but the sandwich was good. I'd good back if I was in the area.
There was a party of 7 of us. The decor was great, beautiful old photos. I was really bummed we didn't get to check out the speakeasy downstairs. The food was good, everyone raved about the French fries.
A very nice cozy restaurant and bar that Brews several beers on premises. It was nice to see that they added a couple dark beers to their repertoire instead of wearing out the old IPA craze. I still would have liked to have seen more in-house brewed lager beers on the list. Regardless, there were bottled beers from other companies. The food was tasty and there were some unique menu items. The brussel sprouts are outstanding. The popularity of the place on a weekend definitely outgrows their capacity to seat people. There are up to 30 minute waits for tables but it is well worth it. Auburn is in Old City however, there's a newer feel to it with craft Brewers and restaurants. Prison City Pub is definitely a nice spot. I recommend it.
Great unique food selection that was perfect. Beer was good and fresh... lots of selections.
Visited the Armory speakeasy underneath its parent brewery and had a solid time. It was pretty quiet when our group visited, but we did stop by early on a Saturday so likely things picked up later. The drinks we all received were well made and decently strong, and the snacks we got actually quite tasty. Get the spicy cheese curds for sure. The whiskey selection I thought was weak and we weren't asked for the password when we visited which was a disappointment. Would come back next time I'm in the area.
Bacon flight, elvis toast, spicy cheese curd and more. First time visit for brunch and thought it was good. The appetizers were delicious. My chicken sandwich was fantastic with a side of Mac and cheese. Their breakfast bowl was mediocre. Lots of drink options as well! Would come back here for drinks and shareables.
Arrived in Auburn for lunch and the concierge at the hotel recommended that we go there for lunch because we had dogs and wanted to sit outdoors. When we got there, we were informed that only service dogs were allowed. We left and went to Prison City Brewery a couple of miles away and were seated; the server/staff there were surprised that the Auburn site turned us away. Just what we needed, getting in our car and driving after a 3 hour drive. I returned later to your establishment (as I was not the person who went in to the host stand). I was informed that you do not allow any dogs because they have had problems with some dogs. There are small signs posted on the interior wrought iron fence that one would need to be seated at in order to see. If you are going to have such a ruling; make the sign large enough and on the sidewalk; letting people know that you have such a policy. Your (business) is entitled to have any policy you wish as long as it is legal. I get that; but if you want to be exclusionary; make your signage large and clear to the general public by posting it (hey...maybe on a sandwich sidewalk board) notifying people not to bother being turned away by your host(s) and your hosts being placed in uncomfortable situations dealing with disappointed and frustrated guests. As a dog owner for decades, the statement about having a problem that "you had with dogs in inaccurate". The problem is with the pet/dog owner. If you want to be exclusive; be accurate and have a policy that if dog owners cannot control their dog(s), they will be removed and charged for any services provided. Being turned away cost you money: being in town for 3 days for lunches (assuming cost at other welcoming establishments). Your policy cost you around $100-$120 and your wait staff lost tips $20-25. Once I returned to the my hotel, I informed the hotel staff who were frustrated but are aware not to refer clients from the hotel to your establishment.
Was excited to bring my parents here to eat as it WAS our go to place (state street location) they drove 2 hours to see me with my sisters and their spouses. Unfortunately we left before we ordered because 1) the hostess was clueless and rude 2) a table of 10-12 year old girls (looked like soccer team) were screaming and acting like idiots! We (10 adults) couldn’t even talk to each other because of noise level and left before ordering!! PCB DO BETTER! Kids DO NOT belong in a Bar!!!! Thank god AT WALLYS was open and we had a fantastic lunch and experience! 👎🏻👎🏻👎🏻
I’ve never made a review before but my experience at prison city brewing convinced me I needed to. The food was horrible. We ordered the pork belly fried rice and steak & frites. The fried rice has never been near a frying pan or wok. Unlike crispy fried food goodness, the rice was soupy, the vegetables were maybe steamed but certainly not fried, and the pork belly was, to put it plainly, disgusting. It tasted like it was marinaded in liquid smoke and it didn’t help that they did not cook it appropriately. The fat was not rendered at all and was like chewing on cartilage. The taste was overwhelmingly liquid smoke and nothing else. So bad. The steak & frites tasted okay but the steak was just grey- no browning or Maillard reaction to be found. Along with no sear, the butter that should have been on the steaks while it rested came out completely hard, adding nothing to the dish. I know the theme is prison but the fare shouldn’t have been so on theme. When we got the bill there was a second pork belly fried rice with a shrimp added (I’m sorry for the poor sap that has to eat that, given the quality of the pork belly I can only imagine the texture of shrimp) and a cheese cake to go. None of that is what we ordered. “It’s the end of the night.”, was the explanation I got (at 6:45 on a Monday) and they voided those items. Fair enough but didn’t help the already poor experience. Beer was fine. Food was horrendous. Service just seemed very disorganized especially for the number of patrons. If the owner reads this, remove the fried rice dish immediately, your food reminds me of a kitchen nightmares episode that desperately needs someone to intervene. I could do better and would love to sit down and right the ship.
Corned Beef and…? Ordered the St. Patrick’s Day corned beef and cabbage for take-out and this is what was in the container. Not sure where the cabbage went, and there were only about 5 beef jerky sized strips of corned beef. This was not a $16 dinner. Might not be writing a bad review if it at least tasted amazing, but it was just mediocre. So disappointing. Shame on me for trying this place again- I should have known! Now I remember why I don’t eat here often. I love our local businesses and want to support them, but this isn’t the first time I’ve been disappointed with my meal here. There are so many other local eateries that are better. Guess I didn’t want to give up on them, but I just find Prison City to be overrated. Hopefully I’ve learned my lesson with this one!
