Trendy. Tastey. Timely. If I had to sum up my experience it would be the alliteration of those three words. I've had a lot of sushi in my life and this is easily top 5. It was so fresh and well prepared. The noodles were like nothing I've ever had before and I wish I could've taken home multiple bowls with me. It's probably a good thing that I don't live locally or else I'd be here all the time! We had Trevor as our server and they went above and beyond. You can tell they understood that menu on a ln elite level. Trevor made the experience that much better! The vibe is fun and lively but not so loud that you can't have a conversation with those at your table. I will definitely return the next time I'm in ATX! 15/10 WOULD RECOMMEND
Went here for the first time for a birthday dinner and it was magical. Really enjoyed trying the different types of sushi and will definitely return! :) my Favorite was the beef ribs that were so tender and flavorful, yum!!
Fukumoto is a traditional Japanese sushi restaurant in the heart of East Austin. I have been to Fukumoto probably a dozen times - sat at the bar, at tables and at the sushi bar. Everything on this menu is extremely fresh, reasonably priced, and mirrors that of Japanese traditions. I would recommend the orange fed snapper paired with Dassai 45 sake. This is a staple in the Austin sushi scene.
If there was a rating for price - I would give them $$$ because it's very easy to spend more than you meant to here. Food is tapas style and 3-skewers will cost you ~$18 - $24. Each skewer is just a few bites. Unless you have money to burn, I would recommend not showing up hungry. However, if you brought your appetite prepare to enjoy the evening! There are so many tidbits to try and everything we did order was juicy and flavorful and interesting. I would go back just for the ube tiramisu, but also for the salmon nigiri, hokkaido uni, and tsukune. Even the drinks were delicious (the ILY So Matcha was a beautiful take on an alcoholic matcha drink). Plenty of seating when we arrived early evening on a weekend night but the place started to get busier after 7:30PM.
We recently visited Fukumoto in Austin with a large party of 12, and the experience was outstanding from start to finish. Coordinating a big group can be challenging, but the staff handled everything smoothly and professionally. Our table was ready on time, and the servers were incredibly attentive, making sure everyone had what they needed without ever feeling rushed. The food at Fukumoto was the true highlight. Every dish was beautifully presented and full of flavor. The sashimi was fresh and buttery, the yakitori had the perfect smoky char, and the rolls were well-balanced and creative without being overwhelming. Our group also loved the grilled skewers and small plates—each item felt thoughtfully prepared with high-quality ingredients. Despite the size of our party, dishes came out consistently and at a good pace. The servers checked in often, refilled drinks, and helped us choose items to share family-style, which made the whole experience even better. The ambiance was warm, modern, and perfect for both groups and intimate dinners.
I don’t know why it’s taken me this long to write a review for Fukomoto. Been here a handful of times with my family but went last night for my wife’s birthday and it was just exceptional. The server (Dylan) was super friendly and really went above and beyond to make sure we enjoyed our experience. Every dish is prepared with such attention to detail. Probably the most authentic Japanese in Austin. Appreciate offerings like ankimo, stingray fin etc. A true Austin gem!
Had an early dinner which was quite nice. Decided to go with skewers and had Yakitori Negima (chicken thigh), King Salmon, Hotate Bacon (scallops &bacon) and Buta Bara (pork belly). The King Salmon was exceptionally tender and delicious. Monte Blanc dessert was delicious, both flavors were good depending on your taste. Prices were affordable for location and quality of food.
Every dish here is thoughtfully crafted—and full of flavor. This visit was a total win for both me and my son. We started with the Ikageso (crispy squid legs)—light, crunchy, and seriously addictive. The Kaki Furai (fried oysters) were golden, crispy, and perfectly briny. So satisfying. The gyoza was a surprise favorite—served in a savory broth instead of the usual pan-fry. Tender, juicy dumplings floating in flavorful comfort. A total standout! I ordered the King Crab Nigiri—fresh, delicate, and melt-in-your-mouth good. A true treat. And my son? He was in heaven with his favorite Tuna Nigiris —each slice perfectly cut and incredibly fresh. It’s always his go-to, and Fukumoto did not disappoint. The ambiance is upscale-casual with a cozy, energetic vibe. Service was warm and attentive, without hovering. Fresh, creative, and full of flavor. A sushi night to remember.
Was awesome little sushi spot! Clean and chill atmosphere with a cool sushi bar(where I sat) talked with the sushi chefs and got recommendations from them. Loved the experience was a nice change from the normal spot we go. Taste was great and refreshing. Definitely tasted like more love went into the food vs other spots.. 100% am going back for more
Fukumoto in Austin is THE izakaya in town! This izakaya brilliantly blends traditional Japanese flavors with a modern, vibrant atmosphere. The menu is a treasure trove of delights—from expertly crafted sushi to mouthwatering yakitori, every dish bursts with flavor and authenticity. The casual, yet lively vibe makes it the perfect spot for a fun night out with friends or a cozy dinner. The staff's passion for what they do is evident in every bite, and the warm, welcoming service only adds to the experience. If you're in Austin, Fukumoto is a must-visit for anyone who loves incredible food and a great time!
I recently enjoyed a delicious meal at here! I opted for the Ebi Combo, which included perfectly crispy tempura. The shrimp were especially delightful, and the Yakitori(grilled pork belly) hit the spot. They also have fantastic salmon sushi, highly recommend! But the experience goes beyond just the food. The restaurant itself boats a vibrant Japanese atmosphere that truly enhances the dining experience.
I’m not in the area but whenever I visit Austin, I go to Fukumoto with no exception. I love everything there but the beets miso soup which was a seasonal in March was amazingly good! I love their Uni Pasta as well. It’s the best thing to wrap up dinner😉 Their desserts are unique and good too. I recommend keeping some space for the dessert too.
Very authentic place with delicious food! We enjoyed our dinner here, everything was nice! I liked both special rolls “Kankitsu” and “Murasaki”. Their ingredients are interesting, and taste is great. I really liked the crunch in “Murasaki” and pear in “Kankitsu”. Yakitori were also well-cooked. “Buta-Bara” and “King Salmon” were very soft and melted in mouth. Service was also perfect here as well, very attentive personal and wonderful atmosphere.
It’s 3.5 stars so rounded to 4 Quick stop for 2. We weren’t expecting much, just mainly hungry. The place looks good enough and that’s what I would say about the food. May be we would come back to try other dishes, but not in a hurry.
Went to Fukumoto for dinner and it was a solid experience. The place is a little dim and cozy, and it gets busy, so I’d recommend a reservation if you can. We ordered a mix of small plates and sushi, and everything came out fresh and well put together. Portions aren’t huge (pretty normal for this style), but the quality is there. Service was friendly and checked in enough without hovering. Price is on the higher side, but it felt worth it for a nice night out.
Delicious food and friendly service. Tried this place based on reviews and I see why they're so highly rated. Had miso soup, rolls, karaage (their version of popcorn chicken) all good. Their gyozo was my fave! I thought would be dumplings in a little broth (like a sauce) but I was a soup. An absolutely delicious soup!! The Ube Tiramisu (ask, not on menu) looks heavy but it surprisingly light and tasty! Not a fan of sake (the server helped me with some choices) but the plum wine is good.
We have been looking forward to visiting Fukumoto for a while now. I'm glad we went with a group of 4 of us so we could try lots of different items on their expansive menu. The restaurant itself is really nicely decorated and a cute spot for a date or a friend gathering. Our server was really friendly and helpful over the course of our meal. I knocked a star off because the service was slower than I would have liked, but it was also a busy Friday night. We shared many different dishes: Tsukemono (pickled veggies), Kawa Ebi (river shrimp), Sawagani (river crabs), Cornflake Ebi (cornflake battered shrimp), Yakitori (miso pork belly, egg omelette, broccolini, sting ray, and chicken oyster), sushi rolls (Murasaki and Kimidori), salmon collar, and the Ube cheesecake. I think our groups favorite items were the Cornflake Ebi, Kawa Ebi, and the Yakitori. However, we really had a great time and a great meal. I look forward to returning to try more dishes.
We really enjoyed the octopus karaage and the roll we got was nothing like I’ve tasted before. The flavours felt complex and not usually something you taste in a sushi roll so I enjoyed it. The rest of the items we got were skewers and we had one bite each from every skewer and left the rest. My boyfriend said he felt like he could taste gasoline on the food from the charring and I just thought it wasn’t good. The menu is so large so I’m sure there are really good items that we missed out on (but you’re only as good as your worst item). The best part was the dango dessert. The service was okay. Not very helpful or attentive. We won’t be coming back
