We heard about this place from Dave Portnoy and had to go try it out ourselves. As soon as we opened the box we knew it would be amazing. The presentations was beautiful. We orders the classic and the vodka. Oh my gosh the vodka pizza was one of the best pizzas I have ever had in my life. It is now our top fav pizza in Austin. If you haven’t tried it the you must. Such a cute place and the staff is amazing and so in. They truly put their love into what they do! A forever customer now.
Great Pizza and Service. You can tell they use good ingredients; i loved the pepperoni cups. This costed at around $26 pretax. I ate this a while back, but forgot to leave a review, but i believe the picture tagged below is a classic pizza with added pepperoni.
Dave Portnoy gave it a 7.9 and later revised it to 8.1. We ordered the vodka pizza and rated it a 7.7, also a high score. Very good pizza and some of the best you’ll find in Austin. They make it in a wood-fired oven in their food truck and it takes about 25min. The cheese, sauce, and undercarriage were excellent. I just wish the crust was more airy and crispy. The homemade ranch was some of the best I’ve ever had.
Top-Tier Pizza – One of the Best in Austin We stopped by Sammataro Pizza today and ordered a straight-up pepperoni pie — and it absolutely delivered on all fronts. The crust was perfectly blistered and airy, the sauce was bright and flavorful, and the cheese blend balanced it all beautifully. The pepperoni had just the right amount of crisp and spice, making every bite memorable. It’s easy to see why this food truck has built such a loyal following. The attention to detail and ingredient quality really shine through. It’s up there with the best pizza in Austin, hands down. Great vibes, friendly staff, and seriously excellent pizza. We’ll definitely be back.
Legit pizza in downtown Austin. They have a trailer and separate structure that has limited seating and bathroom inside. There is also plentiful outdoor seating available. The parking situation was confusing a bit. Last time, we parked nearby and walked over. Staff were friendly and cool. One of my husband’s main food groups is pizza and he absolutely loves this place and I concur! As a person who doesn’t like pepperoni I would eat pepperoni on their pizza anytime as they were perfectly crisp and delicious 👌🏻🤤 We love their pizza but it’s a bit costly and the location is kind of far from our house so we only stop by when we’re in the area. All in all, highly recommended if you haven’t checked them out yet!
Top Austin pizza. Crispy. Sweet. Let cool 7-10 minutes with box open. Great atmosphere.
We are staying in Austin for the weekend and heard about this place online. The pizza was excellent. Really thin and crispy crust.
A slice of New York in Austin. Authentic delicious pizza- the way pizza should be, thin crust and delicious. Friendly staff, and a casual atmosphere.
Come for the amazing pizza, stay for the beautiful atmosphere. A magical little spot to see out the last of the days sun. Pizza was a traditional Neapolitan style. Lovely thin base, puffy crispy crust and gorgeous fresh toppings. All top off with delicious drinks for the local wine bar also on site.
As close to technically perfect for a NY-style pizza you will find in Austin. The below photos were taken 9 mins apart, I did share some crust with the dogs, but I wish I had eaten slower to enjoy it.
Wow! My wife and I went to Sammataro this afternoon to enjoy some pizza - we were pleasantly surprised that it’s not just a pizza joint. The outdoor space is pet-friendly, and a comfortable space for big and small groups. The guy at the window took our order was helpful and threw some chili oil in on the house. We ordered meatball pie and it was incredible. Their true wood burning oven creates an incredible crust and under carriage on the pizza. The meatball was incredible and their cheese was excellent. It was nice to have the wine show Cork and a Screw in the same park to enjoy some natural wines with their pizza. We’ll definitely be back!
Such delicious pizza! No slices - whole pie only. They have air conditioned seating too. I would skip on drinks & bring your own - not reasonably priced

Being from Chicago, I can honestly say this pizza will give some Chicago pizza a run for its money!! The best New York style pizza I’ve ever had, without a doubt. The charred crust, tangy sauce, and delicious cheese all fuse together to make the perfect pie👌🏻 The owner was so nice and personable also. Highly recommend coming here if you’re in Austin!
UPDATE: Sammataro made it right. They encouraged me to get the pizza fresh instead of through delivery service. When I picked up my new cheese and mushroom pizza it was divine! I did ask for them to add extra sauce on the base and I thought it made it absolutely exceptional !! @Sammataro please add the option to select extra sauce on base 🙏🏼It’s heavenly! (New pics added of round two pizzas with a little extra sauce! OLD Review: I have been wanting to love Sammataro for over a year. I’m a very visual pizza eater. Visually their classic is everything I love about a pizza. But every time I order their pizza it is dry and the pizza base is stiff/sharp?. The crust is somewhat doughy though. Feels like each bite cuts my esophagus until I work my way up to the crust. Anyway I feel bad criticizing this pizza like this but I just wish they would add a little more sauce at the very least so the pizza has more moisture. I’ve requested extra sauce in the past but don’t get it added or they charge a big fee for sauce on the side. Again can be perfect with more sauce/cheese ratio.
Jersey girl here 🙋🏽♀️, the pizza is more like a New York Neapolitan fusion. Although it was a loose interpretation of New York style pizza, it was excellent! The price is average for the quality of what you’re getting. 5/5 sauce - fresh, light and flavorful 4/5 cheese - It needed more cheese. The cheese wasn’t creamy and oozy like New York style pizza. 5/5 crust - thin, soft crust and slightly charred. Made for the perfect pizza fold.
Probably my favorite pizza in town, one of my go-to take out places. Their sauce is amazing! The ranch is unmatched. I actually dream about this pizza often. The vibe is great too at east camp, lots of tables, a couple indoor seats if the weather is off. There’s a wine place, live music, a tattoo parlor and other food which is also good. Lots of choices, but sammataro is one you definitely won’t regret.
The pizza from Sammataro is UNMATCHED. Hands down best pizza in Austin. The truck is in such a cute area with outdoor seating & great vibes. The owner is super sweet and the staff are friendly! Would recommend this place to anyone I know :)

I super love this place. The pizza tasted like a dance party in my mouth and heart. Combined with the romantic setting and the wine shop, it felt like Cupid shot me with a pizza-shaped arrow. We got the Classic Pie with pepperoni added. The only thing I didn’t love was the amount of flop in the pizza. It was a bit too greasy and soft for my taste. I’ll always recommend this place, and I’m definitely looking forward to visiting again.
Coming from NYC I can say the Austin pizza scene is definitely heating up. Sammataro is a solid pizza, minimal flop, the dough/crust was chewy similarly to a NY style pie. The flavors were good but missing just something. Perhaps just a bit more sauce or seasoning? Price is a bit on the higher side at 23 dollars for a plain pie. But what novelty item in Austin isn’t over priced? Overall a great pie!

The pizza is legit, top-notch stuff. The other items on the menu are somewhat of a joke in comparison. A Caesar salad is just random lettuce in a box with dressing and Parmesan for $10. The cookies are an afterthought not worth $2 let alone almost $5. Cute spot tho
Finally, solid NY-style pizza in Austin. Crust could be a little more crispy/cooked. Otherwise, the ingredients are fresh and it tastes good. - Former New Yorker
I was so excited to try this place after discovering it online. I have been craving pizza similar to the ones that I've had in NYC but nothing has come close. I ordered the classic pie with no alterations. I only ate one slice because it tasted like it was missing something. After a couple bites I realized it was the basil lol. I asked about it and the individual working there (who was very friendly) told me they have been sold out of a lot of things bc of Southby. I didn't complain, I understood and just left it at that. A few minutes later they walked in and gave me some basil for the pizza. A very kind gesture that I appreciated, but I was confused why they didn't put it on the pizza if they already had it lol. Anyways, I was a bit disappointed and feel like I didn't get to truly appreciate the pie I ordered, but one thing that I will say I enjoyed was their crust. It was solid. Nice, soft and chewy like I like it!

Expected a lot from the photos and social media hype. But was a little disappointed. The pizza was pretty good and large, new york style. But didn't have any fresh basil or parmesan etc as advertised. Only on asking after did we find out they had run out. And for $30± pizza I would expect better. I did like the way they offered a delivery driver a free slice. Atmosphere nice, even with a little rain. I liked the way that the wine place next door matches wines for their pizzas if you want. Also the taco place on site also looked pretty good so on the whole not a bad place to go, especially with a group. We probably just caught an off day, but this was my experience.
TL;DR: I waited 85 minutes and paid $38 for a burnt pizza with sparse toppings. I like supporting local businesses, but I'm not going back to Sammataro. ------ I almost never write reviews, but this was so disappointing, especially for the price, that I feel compelled to write this. After reading the many glowing reviews about this place, my girlfriend and I were excited to try it. We placed our order online for a sausage, pepperoni, and 1/2 mushroom pizza ($38) at ~7:05pm and were told that it would be 75 minutes. When I arrived 75 minutes later to pick up the pizza, I was told it would be a few minutes more and waited another 10 minutes. As for the pizza, the pictures speak for themselves - fairly large sections of burnt crust and toppings. I genuinely wanted to like this place, but even among the parts that weren't burnt, there is definitely better pizza in Austin, especially given this price. The pepperoni was overly salty, and the texture was dry - there was really nothing exceptional about it. We love supporting local restaurants, but we definitely won't be ordering from Sammataro again.
