Great food, spectacular service! We brought our 3 year old at 5 on a Saturday, before the main dinner crowd. It's a casual enough environment that it wasn't a problem. Our waiter was awesome and very knowledgeable about the food and drinks. I'm a vegetarian and I tried the hippie and the Austinite. So awesome!
This place was amazing. The food, atmosphere and our sweet and cool waitress! We had a pick 3 appetizer plus salsa, 4 drinks, Elote Asado and 4 tacos, not during happy hour, and it was $60.00!! SO worth it and really not a bad deal for what we got since drinks were involved. Again, amazing food. You should really try it, ask for Emily, you won't be disappointed!
Today I was a first time random walk-in for lunch. Mike was behind the bar, serving food and drinks to customers, and everyone was very welcome and friendly. The service/staff and the food were equally phenomenal! Generous portions, culinary creativity, quality of ingredients, and a fair price! The atmosphere was relaxing and had an industrial contemporary feel, and was clean and tidy. Normally I don't go for a fish taco, but I took Mike's recommendation and it was the best fish taco I've ever had. I also had the Al Pastor and the Barbacoa, which were both fantastic! Both the red and green taco sauces were great, too! In house freshly made tortillas. My mouth is watering while writing this. Needless to say, I will be back again. --- Coming from a son whose mother is a master chef. 5 stars all around.
Soooo good! I have eaten a lot of tacos in my life. I pretty much live on them. A friend recommended we meet up here and I was a little critical of meeting up at a taco shack for drinks. I am glad I went, the tacos are really good, in fact, everything from the guacamole, flautas, al pastor to the drinks were exceptional. I could tell that they cared about the quality and everything was well thought out, perfectly cooked and delicious. I went back the next day! The drinks alone were well worth the trip! Mexico City Sour=yum. Thumbs up.
Definitely would go again. Atmosphere-very chilled & laid back. There’s a patio as well, looks very chill. The tacos were great. I ordered the picadillo and carne asado. Both were filled with stuffing and worth the price. You can literally get full off of just one. The rice and beans were so-so; not the flavor I was going for but the portion sizes were good. The chips and queso was really good as well although the chips were heavily seasoned.
The chips and salsa are definitely worth $3. They are homemade and come with a delicious seasoning. I had two of the vegetarian tacos and was extremely impressed with the fresh flavors of the ingredients. The Bloody Mary was average. I'll definitely be back!
Taco flats is my husband and I's Cheers. The bartenders and waitstaff are excellent. Great place to get tasty tacos that a reasonably priced. The beer selection is pretty extensive for a small place with rotating taps. If you don't know what you want to drink always ask the bartenders and they have excellent suggestions.
Great service, good price, full bar, and street-style tacos that are delicious. Vegetarian & pescatarian options are available and the margaritas are yummy. There are a few options other than tacos on the menu as well. Atmosphere is very casual with a shuff board inside and small patio outside. Definitely worth the visit.
Chill environment. Very friendly people. Tacos are very good, especially the Al Pastor pork (the version with the melted cheese is great). Good beer selection. Not too much parking but there's some in back if the limited front parking seems impossible. Oh, also, the bacon-wrapped stuffed jalapeños are not to be missed. And if you like heat, the tortilla soup is amazing.
Great place to grab a beer and eat some great tacos! Very well priced, good atmosphere, and very great service. I look forward to coming back!!
Great tacos! Awesome staff! I had the gringa taco and the chilango shrimp, both were excellent. The homemade chips and salsa were delicious as well. My only complaint was that I couldn't order a drink because I was on my lunch break. I watched the bartender make a few cocktails and they look great. I'll be back!
Michael Stern! Had a real fun afternoon the tacos and service were great.
We had the Queso blanco, taco Al Pastor, and the grilled avocado salad. I also had a frozen margarita. The Queso was great with really nice chips served with it. The Al Pastor was really good with just the right amount of pineapple. The meet was nice and tender, and the flour tortilla was very good. The Salad was big with fresh ingredients and a nice vinegar like dressing. The Margarita was very good with a hint of Jalapeño. Very friendly service, can highly recommend this place for some casual dining.
I love it here and come here all the time. I honestly hesitate to write such a positive review bc I don't want y'all finding out about it. 😂 But alas, they more than deserve it. Delicious food that's always fast out of the kitchen, great cocktail menu, great service, casual and comfy environment with great music. The ONLY bad thing I'll say is that parking can be tight. Love Taco Flats so much!
Hobie took care of us and was so funny, welcoming, and friendly! I will definitely be back 🤗 Oh, amazing tacos and margs too! Need to come back and try their reverse happy hour!
MAAAAAN!!! I have never been here before and I am extremely picky about my damn food! WHEN I SAY PHENOMENAL I mean it!!! I ordered the TRIO, BIRRIA, THE ORIGINAL, and CARNE ASADA!!! Every bit of it was good to the last freaking drop!!! I had to pick up my order and the place was cuuuuute!!! Such a vibe!! And the customer service was definitely on point! 10/10 HIGHLY RECOMMEND! I will be going back to try the bar. Robbie and April were the bomb!!
We had a great experience dining here. Everyone who helped us was attentive and fast. The food was great we had fry’s with queso and gaelic aioli. They were very tasty. We also sampled a number of tacos and they all were delicious. Would definitely dine here again!
When I can't think of a new restaurant to try, I always fall back to Taco Flats because it's a winner every time. Their tacos, chips & queso, and cocktails are SO GOOD. I'm often skeptical of cocktail quality when I go to casual dining places, but Taco Flats' margaritas and cocktails are 5 stars. This place is always full of energy, and the service is great. Definitely recommend.
Drove by several times but never made it around to trying until last weekend. As good as the tacos were, the real star is the cocktail menu. Everything we tried was surprising and tasted great but still strong. Inside was seat yourself casual - I spent the evening on a wood crate - but the whole experience combined was very enjoyable.
Its a cool place, service is great. The taco de suadero is really good. They make a great cocktail called Oaxacan wipeout, which is a mix of mezcal (espadín) and pineapple with some habanero and cinnamon which is quite good. Its a really good mezcal cocktail.
We live across the street and probably eat here at least twice a month. This is the only place that I drink frozen margaritas at because they're so good! Food is always fresh and service is great. They usually run with a smaller staff which is just fine for us- I don't mind waiting a few minutes for anything. Also noticed a couple of reviews complaining that they close early- not sure if they realize that this is a neighborhood and that most restaurants close around 10 during the week unless it's in a tourist-y area.
This place is a must if you need to scratch a taco itch. These tacos are stuffed to the brim and will not disappoint. Huge selection of cocktails and beers. Huge windows have plenty of natural light inside, and even has a patio out front that's good sized. Will definitely be back!
Delicious! Hadn't eaten there before, but the food was yummy. Service was great. Our waitress listened to everything we said and even delivered my taco deconstructed so I didn't have to do it myself. Amazing!
Taco Flats is hands-down home to the best tacos in Austin—no question! We have a standing weekly date here because we just can’t stay away. The Hippie taco is absolutely to die for, and if you haven’t tried La Sancha, do yourself a favor and order one immediately. It’s the best drink on the menu—dangerously good! What really makes Taco Flats special, though, is the heart behind it. Simon, the owner, and his wife are genuinely good people. Simon truly cares about the food he serves and the people he serves it to. You don’t just feel like a customer here—you feel seen, welcomed, and appreciated. Great food, great drinks, great people. What more could you want?
I tried the birria taco, shrimp taco, and the queso—and wow, everything was delicious! The birria was rich and flavorful, the shrimp taco had the perfect balance of spice and freshness, and the queso was absolutely addictive. The salsa verde was so good! What really stood out was the quesadilla—it had a crispy cheese ring around the outside that felt like a bonus snack built right in. Such a fun surprise and a perfect touch. Great flavors, friendly service, and definitely a spot I’ll be coming back to!
The grilled avocado salad was next level. Get el pasto it is almost like bacon. And the pineapple and pickled cabbage was soo good. The flautas were also very tasty and generous portions. And the don Ramon was tasty and they were generous portions of meat.
Yummy queso and delicious drinks!! Also the playlist when I went was "Muse Radio" and it was full of early 2000s hits and made for great vibes!
Great shrimp taco! Flavored chips were very good..not too spicy. I'll go back.
Taco flats is a pub club for Austin FC and I’ve found them to be one of the more fun and enjoyable places to watch the soccer games. Tacos are great and loaded, prices are good for the quality and there’s plenty on the menu to choose from! Parking can be tight but you can always manage to find a spot within a short walking distance. They don’t have dessert but they’ve got a great frozen marg that makes up for that. Cheers!
We went on Cinco de Mayo when every other taco place we went to had a 2 hour wait. Taco Flats is first come first serve and we found seats on the patio immediately. Should've came here first! I ordered a non-spicy margarita which was okay. My wife got the spicy margarita, I recommend that one. It has just enough kick. We started off with chips and queso. Amazing! So good I used my finger to finish all the queso and the chips a nice seasoning on them to add more flavor. Pictured, I had the Carne Asada (grilled beef fajita on flour tortilla) which was perfectly crispy and savory. I also had the Birria Las Brasas which had an awesome crunch to it. Packed full of flavor but was a little too greasy for me. Definitely going to come back here for their happy hour during the week! Highly recommended!
Such delicious food, great drinks and wonderful staff! I can't say enough about Robbie and April, they are such beautiful people and fun to be around. If they worked for me, I'd give them a hella raise! The tacos are amazing, breakfast tacos are my personal favorite! Their mimosa carafes are delicious and cheap, and their water and soda are always super cold. I highly suggest checking them out!
It's casual, it's got great beers/wines/cocktails, it's got *stellar* tacos - seriously, why would you not go (again, and again, and again)? If it's just you (or the two of you), hang out at the - generously sized - bar, and chill. Else, grab a table by the side, and escape the Austin-heat. Either way, you'll have a great time. And yes, it's worth repeating - the tacos are *stellar*
Black Girl Taco Chronicles sent Just A Girl From The 206 on a special assignment to Taco Flats in Austin, Texas. We had Chicken Mole, Al Pastor, Carnitas, Carne Asada, and Barbacoa. They have some great tacos. I am giving this place an 8.5 out of 10. The carnitas was worth the value, but I wished the meat had a little more flavor.
We’ve been very pleased with the service and food at the Burnet location recently. Over the last year or so, they had really fallen off with respect to their service. But ive been back 2 or 3 times in the last couple of months and it’s been a complete turnaround. Very good!
Elle was the best waitress ever I will come to this restaurant solely because of her. Literally give her a raise, the sweetest and most personable person EVERRR. Tacos were okay.
here is what you need to know before coming to this location they have parking in the back but you're going to be having to make sure to come really southbound on Burnet road because there is no middle lane to turn on over and the entrance is tricky cuz there's only one way in and out so you got a time it when somebody's not trying to leave the same way you're trying to come in I have posted a video on this because that is 80% of battles just getting into the back parking area and then there's a decent amount of parking back here for both the peach tortilla and this location but they do share a parking with that I can't really vouch for being able to get parking anywhere else cuz again it's going to be tricky with the way things are just squeezed in in this area once you can get past that and then you got to go through on foot to drive-in area so not get hit by anybody coming in so then get to the front and enter front the front entrance past the peach tortilla which is not as handicap accessible but can be done From there plenty of indoor and outdoor dining area very hospitable staff that were very friendly helped point myself and a party I was with to order appropriate items to our pallet would highly recommend this place to tacos were definitely lived up to their expectation especially the carne asada tacos which is special oil dip that goes great with the corn tortilla and the spice chips with the trio of guacamole queso and salsa plenty of indoor dining area and the restrooms were well maintained and in hilarious sign there with the mens and women's restrooms From there there's plenty of TVs streaming sports and a large variety of beverages I got the hibiscus fresca and it was definitely worth every penny not really do alcohol but there was a variety of drinks including a orange oil with our liquor drink that a friend of mine got that was definitely exceeded his expectations as his new favorite for those looking for the ultimate citrus alcohol mix we did not take very long for putting in the orders they did have paper menus in addition to barcode scan menus and an online ordering website where you can order an advance and pick up to go overall it was also impressed with the cleanliness of the place they do a great job of maintaining this location and now I know cuz this place has been here for over a decade and have passed by it so many times outside happy hours furious daily specials but mostly it's just a taco bar hang out
Awesome little taco shop with great drinks! They have a decently large beer selection with plenty of local brew options. They also have a bar and quite a few seasonal cocktails that are really good and unique. Their tacos are also really good, and they make their tortillas in house. I wouldn't say they are authentically 100% Mexican tacos, but they are pretty close, and much more so than most main taco joints in Austin. They are definitely top on my list of good Austin tacos. They are a tad pricey, but they knock them down a dollar or so during their happy hours, same as their beers. The service has usually been really good. I definitely recommend coming here for happy hour or for some good food and drinks for dinner.
Taco flats is great, but I do wish they had slightly more versitle tacos. I don't like onions or cilantro, so some of the tacos are simply meat and a tortilla for me. The location is great. The restaurant is cute, kind of industrial hipster vibe. The wait staff hasn't been great the last several times I've been in, and there is not much seating or parking.
I got a barbacoa fish taco, which was a pretty interesting thing and a strange combo, some sort of special. It was okay, not magical. I felt the vibe in the place was really good, and the food was mostly good, but not magical. Prices per taco range from $4 to $7 each.
Food was awesome. I had a great quesadilla that had crispy cheese all around the edge, wonderful filling, and guacamole and pico de gallo on top. My wife had a couple of tacos that were great, too. Servers were very attentive and pleasant. Background music of classics set the mood. Didn't break the bank. Highly recommended.
Always a solid choice! GREAT spirit selection. I wish there were more interesting vegan choices but the vegan taco they do have is tasty and easy to dress up. Our bartender was amazing this morning and the escabeche taco really hit a home run for breakfast.
We initially came here cause they were on a list for the best margaritas. They didn’t disappoint! Perfectly strong margaritas. I ordered 3 tacos cause I wasn’t too confident in their size and quality. Surprisingly all tacos were big and well portioned. It was also happy hour for $1 off tacos and $2 off queso. Tacos - 8/10 Cocktails- 10/10 Queso- 9/10 Service 9/10
Delicious tacos and cocktails. The homemade tortillas are a big plus. I’d give it 5 stars were it not for the poor service we received the last 2 times I had lunch there. We had the same server both times and she was very brusque. Almost to the point of being rude. I asked for water without ice and she frowned and rolled her eyes! It’s a shame because it’s probably my favorite place for tacos, but I won’t be going back there for lunch.
The salsa is spicy deliciousness!! The tacos are on the smaller side so definitely get two. The table arrangement is a bit strange so it's best to come with one or two friends, not big groups. I went the second day they opened so they were still working out some kinks, but it still left a good impression. It's a chill place that I'll visit again.
It's always great to find a cozy spot for Happy Hour and Taco Flats was a very good find, actually some fellow Yelpers introduced me to this venue. Gringa, pit roasted pork, onion, grilled jack cheese, pineapple, cilantro Chilango battered fried shrimp, seasoned cabbage, avocado, salsa valentina, fried leeks, cilantro Homemade tortillas hosted the toppings. The Guacamole and Queso were extraordinary served with homemade chips. A couple of 512 Fresca with habanero salt were consumed for digestive purposes. No doubt, I will return.
I saw this place on TV, and had to try the tuna tostadas. While passing thru Austin, my friend and I decided to give the place a try. We ordered the tuna tostada with no idea what the price was as the menu said market price. We also ordered a taco each and a beer. Each of us splitting the bill ended up spending about $20. The tuna tostadas were like sushi on a chalupa. The flavor was great, a good blend of ingredients, the tuna was fresh and better quality, not fishy at all, with the lime, avocado and fried leeks the flavor really popped. When we paid our check we saw that the tuna tostada or "Tostadas de Atun" as they are called on the menu were about $17. (Picture Attached) Individual taco prices were a bit high, about $5 each and were on the smaller side. Beer prices were about $5-7, the menu had a good selection. The taco I ordered had good flavor but at $5 each would have easily taken at least 2-3 of them before I would begin to feel full. My friend commented his taco was good as well. Overall for a somewhat small meal, $20 each was a bit steep. The food was good, the service was decent. But they are definitely charging premium prices for everything on the menu. Id consider returning to try some more items, but due to the prices my visits here will be limited. Service: 4/5 Food Quality: 5/5 Portion Size: 3/5 Price: 3/5 Location: 4/5
Wanted to share some pictures of my recent visit. Happy hour was popping so it made parking a pain. Weirdly at 6, almost all tables were available. Tacos were great, looks like they changed up their menu a bit. Cocktails were good as always. I’ve been to taco flats several times and I’ll keep going back! The cocktails are crafted and delicious. The chip with guacamole is a staple, you just can’t go wrong. There’s a variety of tacos with lots of flavors! The tacos include traditional ones (al pastor, carnitas), fish tacos and amazing veggie ones. I personally think it’s a little on the salty side, but goes well with the cocktails. There’s a good vibe, usually a hum of groups excitedly chatting. The only hugely negative thing is the parking situation. There some spaces in the front and maybe a dozen more behind it. Taco flats and the restaurant next door are so popular that it’s almost always packed. DONT park in the lot on the right side; a towing company WILL put a boot on your car and you’ll have to say bye bye to $100 that could have been spent on tacos instead. Overall it’s always a good time!
This place was very interesting to say the least. They use QR codes which I am not usually a fan of, but it was pretty cool how we ordered on our phone and paid on our phones as well. The margarita I got was a bit of a rip off. It was very small and could barely taste any alcohol in it. Gone within a few sips for $10. The chips and guacamole were good though. I really liked how toasty the chips were.
I have not been to an American style tacos stand in a while, I usually prefer the Latin hole in the wall places, but NGL, I thought the food here was really good. Came here on a Sat nite, it was not terribly busy. We had no issues with the service, drinks and food came out pretty quickly. We used the barcode to order our food, easy peasy. We got the guacamole appetizer and it was good, tasted fresh and the chips were freshly cooked tortillas. I got the biria tacos, it was good but the taco was just fried not cooked in biria, and you get a small side of biria consume which is hard to dip, so I just poured it over. Now I tried the pirata, I think that taco was the most expensive taco on the menu and it's worth it!! The tortilla used was nice and thick, the beef used was so flavorful and tender, I could easily eat a dozen of them!! Top it all with that nice spicy Verde sauce, man sooooo good! Pricier than my usual spots, but I find this place way more better than Torchys or Velvet Taco chains. I highly recommend giving this place a try.
Solid tacos. Solid queso. Hard to find parking. My favorite is the grilled shrimp taco. The seating seems to be designed for a couple of buddies to sit side by side and watch the game, which is great for that but awkward for normal dining. There are fun and spicy drinks for those who want a Soffer t cocktail experience. It feels like a high end dive / sports bar with much better tacos than most. Great for a night when you either want to watch the game or simply eat tacos / have a drink with no fuss.
The food was excellent. We went on a Sunday. We started with the chips and salsa. Very good. The chips were crisp and had a little seasoning on them. The salsa had just the right heat. I had the banana walnut waffle off the brunch menu. Probably the best waffle I’ve ever had. Just the right level of crispness and not overly sweet (I had them omit the whipped cream). I finished every bite. We also ordered tacos, which my family said were superb. Al pastor, birria, and migas tacos. The food would easily get 5 stars but the service was not great. We waited 45 minutes for our food, even though the place was nearly empty. Our coffee arrived room temp and the waitress told us they had no way to heat it up for us. Then, one of us ordered a later cup of fresh coffee, while we were waiting so long for our food, and it never showed. We finally asked about it and it came after the food. Food this good deserves better service!
Had a really good meal here. We ordered the regular guacamole and queso. My wife and I’s favorites. We ordered our own tacos of Al Pastor and Pollo Asado and we split a quesadilla. With the COVID spacing rules right now the ambience was a little “quiet” which is not their fault and the only reason for the 4/5 stars is the prices are just high for what you get.
3 stars because the service was great and they had the game on. The tacos & the drinks were just not it. Then again, I actually grew up here 🤷🏻♀️ only came because I met with friends. Highly recommend Rosita's al pastor.
Without the Barbacoa/Brisket Tacos I can no longer recommend this establishment. There’s nothing that makes you great. There’s so many other options. It was a horrible business decision.
For the high price of these tacos, I was looking for food that was going to deliver amazing taste, and it didn't at all. This is just another Austin basic taco joint. I ordered several tacos, spending about $120.00 in hopes of finally finding a taco place that delivers and isn't so boring. The tortillas were awful, not the worst I have ever had but no where close to the best. The queso was good though and I loved the seasoning on the tortilla chips. The flan was disgusting 🫣 well I'm biased on this because it was my first time ever trying it.
We used to go to Taco Flats pretty frequently and always enjoyed it. We went last weekend after not having gone for a few months to discover, with great disappointment, that they no longer offered the aguachile (shrimp ceviche)! This was one of their best offerings and one of the main reasons we liked coming here. It also was a super fresh option in a sea of meat-heavy tacos. Then we went to order our standard drink, the Mexico City Sour, and saw it wasnt on the menu anymore either! 😭 The waitress said they could still make us one, so that was cool. However I guess the new bartender wasn’t familiar with it (I could hear the waitstaff telling them how to make it) and it was really really not good. So we ate one taco and one terrible drink and went next door for dinner. With both our favorite items missing (and the majority of drinks now being “spicy”) we sadly don’t have much of a reason to return. Too bad because we did like their tacos. 😕
The taco I had was good chilango grilled shrimp @7.50 it's a bit steep. I feel if they lower the prices just a bit they, would be busier and the drink I had agua frescas hibiscus isn't worth 5$ at all very tiny drink mostly ice which is a shame the flavor isn't quite like an original aqua frescas more like a bar drink but without alcohol I noticed they only had two servers which they are friendly but place wasn't very busy so makes me wonder why?
Came in to try this spot, the wife’s owner greeted me and was super kind. 1. A singular taco is $6.50…… if the taco is going to be that pricey it should come with a second tortilla. As soon as I got the al pastor taco and picked it up, it immediately fell apart. The meat was super hard/tough and not flavorful at all which is not normal for Al pastor. 2. Got the shrimp quesadilla, the cheese crust was good but you can’t really go wrong with a quesadilla. 3. Got the margarita casera, it was pretty small and tasted watered down.
Food was not great tortilla soup tasted like a can of tomato soup, a far cry from the one I had in Mexico City ; my friends liked their tacos and especially margarita, so maybe I just picked the wrong item. Restrooms were dirty, guess they clean them once a day. On the plus side, waitstaff was friendly and the vibe was fun and laidback.
I stopped in for happy hour and had an okay experience. The waitress seemed to be having a terrible day or was just very bored. The tacos were all pretty mediocre, although generous in portion size. We ordered the following: Frozen margarita -- Decent, but small portion Watermelon aguas fresca -- Was okay, didn't taste super fresh. Small portion Chips and queso -- I loved the chips, they're so addicting! The queso was just okay Birria taco -- The consume was good, but the actual taco needed more flavor. However, this was the best one out of all the tacos we ordered Panela taco -- Had virtually no flavor. I doused the taco in the green sauce that came with it, which only made the taco spicy with no flavor. Al pastor taco -- The worst taco, so dry and had no flavor at all. Chilango shrimp taco -- This was the second best taco, but the shrimp definitely tasted frozen. I let the waitress know about the al pastor taco because it was truly awful and I had only taken one bite, but she just said "ok" and then gave us our check. I'd probably come back just to get the chips.
I truly enjoy the food but some people. I placed an order that included a hibiscus tea. The bartender prepares the drink by putting ice in the cup and pours the tea. It was too full to put a lid over the cup because of the ice , that he sticks his fingers in the drink and removes the ice. I asked for a new drink and he proceeds to tell me "You know how bars works right ?". I stayed calm and still requested for a new drink to be poured. Perhaps alcohol does kill some germs however this was a tea!!!
The tacos were very good, although a bit pricey. Service was one of the worst I’ve ever experienced. Server came to the table twice to drop off menus, then waters, without ackwoledging our existence or saying a word. We were there on a weekday, but received a brunch menu. No explanation from the server, who acted like us being there was ruining her day. She returns to take our order, “do you know what you want?” Still no introduction, “welcome in,” “do you have any questions,” etc. I told her politely I needed a few more minutes to decide, then she ROLLED HER EYES, made an annoyed sigh, and dramatically stormed off, again without saying a word. At this point everyone in our group was commenting on how rude she was. After having empty waters for a while, I finally asked for a refill. Again, she acted like I was ruining her life. Without saying a word, she finally throws a water down on the table. It was as if she was trying as hard as she could to be as openly unfriendly as possible. Just ridiculously bad service. I actually really liked the food, but I won’t be coming back.
The vibe was good, got flautas since everything else basically had cilantro and my wife is allergic. The drinks were good main reason why we stayed longer. I would of have given more stars but I was given a coupon which the location doesn’t take any coupons at all. So spent more then what I was hoping too.
It's just ok. Tortillas are made here and appear to be made with lard (the flour). The cocos locos drink was tasty. A little overpriced for the tacos. The ceviche was REALLY lemony and was made with stringy shrimp and doesn't taste anything like authentic ceviche. But I'm glad I visited, since it's unique to Austin I think.
I have ordered takeout from this place a couple of times. Be aware the staff will add a 10% service charge and they are sketchy about disclosing it when asked. They will definitely not tell you about it before tipping which aggravates the hell out of me. As a result, I've left 30-35% tips for a bag of tacos! Having worked in the service industry myself, I'm happy to tip well to support server's wages (usually tip 20-25%). But I feel it's disingenuous of this staff to add service charges and not be forthright about it. Short review...tacos leave a bitter taste in my mouth because it seems like the staff is trying to pull one over on me with hidden service charges.
Taco filings seem cheap and/or greasy. Salsa didn’t have any flavor. Awful service. Waited 15 minutes for a cocktail, they never came back to check on me to see if I wanted another one regardless how it was Terrible, loud hiphop playing the entire time. And no chairs or barstools with backs.
I came here tonight expecting good tacos. The flavor was amazing overall. Except when someone tells you they have a food allergy of cilantro and to please omit those ingredients. It’s disappointing that the staff would ignore that and just continue to add it on. Cilantro on the Birria tacos.
Food was good, waitress was a nice person and it was dead (around 330 on a Weekday), but I had to refill my own water and we didnt get napkins, so I got up to get those as well. Granted there was only one waitress in there and she seemed like she was busy prepping stuff for the dinner rush (she was not lazy), but I think we were the only customers that were eating food, besides the boss sitting at the bar working on her laptop. Also, I ordered 2 tacos and the 2nd one never came out, so I guess I would only eat one? My 2nd taco came out as we were about to leave. The Food was good though but the prices were higher than I expected (but then again, we live in the country and I usually make my own tacos, so perhaps this kind of high price point is normal for this part of Austin)? For example, we had the chips / queso at $9 for a small bowl, BUT it was delicious! I had 2 breakfast tacos at $13 (but, again, they were GOOD!). I just can't get past the pricing and that might be my own issue. I can see why pricing might be so high, with Austin rent, Austin "minimum wage" and such, in a prime location. The parking looks VERY tight to get in/ get out during peak hours. We were lucky to go in at a dead timeframe.
Look, the food is pretty good. But no matter how I get it delivered it shows up ice cold, even if the delivery is super fast. Often entire items missing. I can’t DoorDash from here anymore because I don’t want DoorDash to flag my account for asking for refunds too often. Idk how they do it. It’s also insanely pricey, 7-9 bucks for a single taco. Agh. (Picture is the planchas on a tray so I can reheat them)
Tacos were not good, meat tasted cheap. But most of all I ordered Birria tacos and they served them to me without the dipping sauce because they were out of dipping sauce but didn’t tell me that till they delivered my tacos.
We frequent Taco Flats often and the food is always phenomenal. However, today the service by Bri was horrible. We sat at the bar and she could not make eye contact with us and had a perceived attitude from the moment we sat down. She was not engaging when ordering and seemed rushed. Right after ordering our food she was more worried about going on break than ensuring all customers were taken care of including us. The other waitress was already on break leaving only Jorge to take care of the entire establishment with multiple customers coming in at one time. The way she spoke to Jorge who was the only one left covering was highly unprofessional and demeaning. She sat in the restaurant eating her fries and watched our food sit on the warmer. She even stepped up to the food counter to ask how long our food had been sitting there (10+ min) and proceeded to tell the other employee that she was on break and Jorge needed to handle it. She told Jorge loud enough that multiple people could hear that she told him she needed to take a break because she was so busy all morning and that everyone was his responsibility. She proceeded to sit down and talk to someone on face time about the entire situation. Jorge on the other hand was so amazing. He waited on each person who walked in and made sure they got what they needed. He was so nice and apologetic. There was no manager on site otherwise we would have had reported this to them. We love Taco Flats but have concerns about the recent experience with Bri and will not return with her and that environment.
Ahh, Taco Flats! What happened? Used to be the best little place. Yesterday was 1/2 hr to get 3 beers, our food came before the drinks. Flies were everywhere, what's up with that? They were in our food and buzzing our heads. Waiter didn't seem to know how to fix the situation. Food seems like it's being warmed up and not fresh anymore. Used to have absolutely THE best margaritas, now they're mediocre at best. I won't even go into the problems in the restrooms. I'm sad and wish the old place would come back.
The greens had gone bad. Tried going again and service was terrible. Place was nearly empty and we sat at the bar. Our food order was wrong but the runner fixed all the mistakes. We ordered drinks and she forgot to make them. All the problems could have been because the bartender was drinking the whole time. Food is good but service was bad.
Extremely misleading ad. Ad says "Get a FREE $10 DINING CREDIT". After you sign up and they spamming you, they say "valid with a purchase of $40 or more".
Wow, the fall from grace of this place is nothing short of unbelievable. That’s not hyperbole. I used to come to this place often a few years back and you could always count on two things: great tacos and great drinks. Sadly, this is no longer the case. I’ll summarize my review of the food briefly: sick to my stomach, literally. Pastor was absolutely disgusting, not sure what that was but that was not anywhere in the same zip code as the delicious pastor this place used to have. The fried shrimp taco was burnt to a crisp. And the nail in the coffin, terrible tortillas. Can’t say for sure, but they don’t seem to be homemade like they used to be. Even if they weren’t, no problem…..but these were bland and tasteless. Cardboard-like. And the drinks….my God, the drinks. Terrible. I’ve had homemade cocktails at friends’ parties taste at least 10 times better than these cheap-tequila, synthetic-tasting POS. Absolutely atrocious. Not sure what happened here, but I’m honestly dumbfounded by the drop in quality across the board. Either the owner from a few years back sold the place or they’re asleep at the wheel with new management in place but WOW! They are incredibly bad. Literally. I feel bad for our server who was absolutely fantastic, I just didn’t have the heart to tell him just how atrocious the food and drinks were. Simply terrible in the full sense of the word. Wouldn’t be surprised to see these guys out of business in the next year or two after all their old customers come back and see just how bad they’ve gotten. Keep in mind, this was on a Friday night…9:30pm….deader than Abraham Lincoln on a Tuesday. RIP Taco Flats.
Nice "hang out" type bar. We ordered breakfast tacos and won't be ordering food there again. The tacos were super greasy, but seemed like they'd be great for Bar Food. I'll be back for some adult beverages only.
I gave it 1 star because delicious food does not supersede rude service while sitting at the bar with my friends. The bartender behaved bothered to have to assist us. Pros: variety of tacos and drinks, Tasty Cons: rude service, did not have ingredients to make all drinks Tip: The shrimp agua Chile( pic) is not ceviche so expect a different taste.
