The Nickel Taphouse has one of the best happy hours in the entire city. With any Evo draft for $3, select wines for $4, and massive $1 oysters, you can easily go out here without breaking the bank. The burgers are massive and so flavorful. I guarantee you won’t physically be able to put it down until you’re finished and completely dripping in burger juice. My only complaint is that they don’t provide you with Happy Hour menus. This causes you to think they aren’t offering it or don’t want you to know about it. Otherwise, make sure to make a reservation on the weekend because it fills up fast!

Truly fantastic, niche, New England feeling, pub in north Baltimore. We ate the whole happy hour menu and encouraged others to do the same. Siting at the bar has the best ambiance to watch the action - especially Christie shucking oysters (self taught, 7 year veteran - best cuts I've ever seen) Stay long enough we did on the house oyster shots and ice cream samplings Phenomenal service, food and luster. Repeat over and over.

Scrumptious oysters, large craft beer selection, perfect client meeting spot! Love the location, old stomping grounds ❤️

Huevos JIMMIE Changa for brunch!! Yes yes and yes. With a dozen oysters to start. Buck a shuck. Shucked at the bar. Winning! ....maybe add some avocado and cilantro and its 6 stars Bloody Mary's made with love...they were delicious.....FOR $5! This place has a lot going for it. Just go and enjoy. PS - don't go at night

Been there four times and everything I've had was great and everyone is nice. The beer selection is pretty good. If I had one bad thing to say it's the entrance it kinda feels like your walking into an unfinished building until you walk through.

Outstanding restaurant; excellent, creative but satisfying American fare. Good service and comfortable. The prices are a little high but the food and dining experience are worth it.

Excellent happy hour food and beers. Best prices for filling up a growler. Friendly staff and nice atmosphere. Highly recommend for a relaxing afternoon.

This is one of the few restaurants where my wife enjoyed EVERYTHING!!! Reminds me of a Pub; loud atmosphere, high energy, unpretentious and good 🍻. I've found a new go to restaurant in Mt. Washington.

While the menu is small, the food is outstanding, and the bar is huge. Wood everywhere, located in quaint Washinton Square, on Falls Road. A cool happy hour locale.

The place is an absolute gem. The menu is Devine and the tap selection is top notch. Save room for the Smith Island cake dessert with coffee. #OMG. #URWELCOME

Love the place. I certainly recommend the brussel sprouts and the chicpeas as appetizers. The oysters are really good too.

Took the wife here for happy hour after work. It was both our first time and it won't be our last either. The food was great! We had the $1 oysters, the Purist burger, duck wings, and the pork belly. The pork belly was out of this world. The drinks were good too just on the small side. Food is expensive but well worth it. Anywho we're looking forward to the visit already. Thanks to Danny for such great service.

Went for brunch for my birthday and they certainly didn't disappoint. The staff was very friendly. The whole table ordered different burgers from the menu and split two orders of fries since they give you so much. Best burgers we've had in Baltimore, hands down. They also have an option for mimosas made with pineapple juice which was actually pretty great. A little on the pricy side, so it's more of a treat if you're on a budget like us, but definitely worth it. I look forward to going back.

One of the best craft beer bars in Maryland. Draft lists updated weekly and the staff is extremely friendly and attentive. The food always impresses and their happy hour is out-of-bounds! Would HIGHLY recommend!

Initially I stopped in solo for happy hour and had a very lovely time sitting at the bar. They have a great happy hour food and beverage selection from which I ordered two EVO drafts, the duck fat fried chicken skins and oysters on the half shell, all was fantastic. The bartenders were attentive and very nice. My second trip in was for dinner again sitting at the bar. My husband had the purist burger and I had the salmon with spinach and squash, we shared the bacon Mac n cheese. Everything was delightfull.

Great neighborhood place. Lots of craft beer flowing. I had the broccoli cheese skillet and it was great. The broccoli was drenched in cheese and bread crumbs and bacon was over it. It was then toasted and the taste was out of the world. This is a hidden gem that you have to try.

Hard to find a good place in Mt. Washington but now that they have their chef situation under control they have been consistently good with flavorful tasty interesting dishes that you can't get just anywhere. It's become one of our regular places and we enjoy going there probably every week.

Great spot, creative menu and great bar service from the talented team! Like the previous poster, we also ate and drank our way around the Happy Hour Menu. Treated like royalty for a birthday! A real gem - Chef Rocco

Great oysters. Have to come back to try the mussels. The rest of the menu was not too desirable.

Delicious cocktails and crabcakes! Personable staff and speedy friendly service. Also really beautiful wall art and design in the bathroom. No complaints.

The nickel taphouse is becoming a go-to date night for us. The food is delicious and their Works Burger is to die for. Parking is very sparce so if you are going during a busy time I would suggest just using the valet out front (and probably getting a reservation too for that matter).

Fantastic beer selection. Their Brussels sprouts appetizer is great! Usually have their steak frites and it never disappoints.

Good informal Sunday evening meal... Regular burger, turkey burger, Caeser salad, all properly cooked and presented. Great coleslaw too.

Nice place with a very chill atmosphere. Not a big fan of oysters, but their specials menu always has something good.

I had the salmon on bbq carrots and was thoroughly impressed. The crab cake left something to be desired, as a marylander I have grown accustomed to more old bay on my crab.

Unique and delicious brunch! The oysters were fabulous and the burgers were delicious. Two people I was with got the eggs Benedict and said it was really good and different. They used bacon instead of Canadian ham and used a burger bun instead of English muffin. One person said it was the best poached egg he'd ever had. Bloody Mary was awesome too!

Good: the food was great. I got a burger and enjoyed it quite a bit. The bartenders who were there were able to make sure my friends and I always had a drink, even though they were pretty slammed. Bad: the place is a tad expensive. I would give it 4 1/2 stars if I could. But you do get the bang for your buck. Worth going for food or drinks, just bring a little extra cash.

Tasty authentic food. Oversized portions. Large beer selection. Warm and welcoming atmosphere. Bar seats ~25-30 patrons, tables, and booth seating also available. Good place for a date, to meet up after work, or to bring the family. I'd recommend this establishment.

Great atmosphere, service, and food. The Buffalo brussel sprouts are delicious! We had the Nashville chicken which didn't disappoint and was very filling. We went for restaurant week and will definitely be back.

Great beer selection but they serve diner food and charge an arm and a leg. Their food is very expensive for the quality. It's only worth it if you're going in for beer or the oyster bar.

Lots of beer choices, but the food left a heavy dent in my wallet that I personally didn't feel was justified. But I could also be a cheapskate. I feel like coming here for happy hour would be a wise choice however.

Great oysters. Good burger but no fries. Fries with a burger, only way to mess that up is to not serve the two together. With many better places in Baltimore, this place only works because of convenience to the neighborhood.

Went with 3 other people. Two of us ordered a seafood special (gnocchi with calamari), which neither of us enjoyed our finished. Can't remember what my wife had, but she didn't enjoy it either. HOWEVER, we were all stealing bites of my daughter's grilled PB&J, which was fantastic! Maybe salads or burgers would have been better?

Great burgers, decent drinks... Overpriced AF! I had a love/hate with this place for a few years because the quality was good, but the prices didn't match. When I finally try to leave a review, they're CLOSED FOR BUSINESS!!! Ironic, but not surprising...

Steak was very good and appetizer was just OK. Drink selection outside of taphouse fare was very limited. e.g. - no lemonade. The seating wasn't very comfortable. Try the ice cream, another highlight in an evening of puts and takes.

This was a last minute choice for my spouse and me. There is valet parking out front. Our reservation was honored on time. Courtney, our server, was very good. NT was, to us, essentially an upscale bar. It was busy for a Sat. night. We ate light. Spouse had 3 oysters rockefeller and said they were ok. Her french onion soup also was "okay". I had a Schlafly Tazmanian IPA, 6 Blue Point oysters, a Butternut Squash ravioli and a small salad. The ravioli dish was very salty and lacked enough filling. The house salad while large for a side salad lacked any serious ingredients, being mostly greens. The oysters were good. The bill was about $77 before tip and tax with the beer at $8 and the raw oysters at $18. The meal and venue were okay, but I wouldn't need to go back. Maybe if someone wanted a beer and a burger in the Mt. Washington area, they might stop in.

Hate to see a good restaurant in decline. Went on a slow evening. Had the worst ceviche of my life. Bartender was clueless, and would rather talk baseball with the waitstaff. This likely explains why they were only two people in the restaurant at 6 PM.

Attractive place. Server Dan was great. Food...disappointed. Tried veggie burger. I'm not sure I could even taste ingredients. Probably a good thing. Also u didn't like its appearance or texture. Brussel sprouts were overdone. I think to cook..not fry may bring the flavors out. I decided to try turkey burger as well. I did not like the combinations of flavors. It was almost a bitter taste. It needs something to bind ingredients. Again ..I did not like texture. I also think the menu needs a better description of the dishes. I also thought the catfish meal did not look appealing..overdone. Duck wings were dry but sauce was flavorful.

On a recent dinner, I had to send back my entree. Before ordering the roast pork with polenta, I asked the server if it would come out tender. She assured me it would and then what I received was too tough and dry to eat. So they replaced it with a brisked "burnt ends sandwich" which was tasty, except for rubbery chunks of meat which were about half fat. There was no grilled charred anything. Brisket should always be tender and trimmed BEFORE serving. Stick with the craft brews, oysters and burgers here. The service is much better than the kitchen.

The ambiance of the Nickel is lovely. The lighting makes the beers look absolutely beautiful and the music was nice. The beer selection was impressive and is separated into loose "types" of beer so that drinkers don't have to try and translate beer names into beer colors. The hostess was very accommodating, first finding two chairs together at the bar and then showing us to a table when we said we preferred to sit and eat. We shouldn't have bothered sitting and eating. Our server acted like she had better things to do than to contribute to a pleasant dining experience. She didn't smile once and never asked how the food was. My soup, corned beef and cabbage, was quite nice (although the server acted like I was asking something ridiculous when I said I wanted the soup for an entree) but my boyfriend's lentil & mushroom burger was flavorless mush on a bun with uninteresting vegetables slapped on top. Lentils & mushrooms can take all manner of lovely flavor when cooked properly, but it was clear that the kitchen didn't know what to do with these ingredients. Had anyone stopped to ask how the food was, we'd have told them, but the situation never arose. The server also took our menus after we ordered without offering to leave one for the beer list on the back. When I requested another menu, she at first seemed nice about it but then couldn't help herself from commenting with a sneer, "I'll leave it at your table in case you change your mind again." It's a Taphouse and my fellow and I are beer-lovers. Yes, we're going to have 3 or 4 different beers each. No, that's not "changing our minds". That's trying a variety of beers at exactly the sort of place you OUGHT to be trying a variety of beers. Her attitude and the lackluster food means we won't be returning and will be recommending that our friends also skip visiting. You get about a nickel's worth of satisfaction. Shame, as we were hoping for some nice variety in Mt. Washington. We'll be sticking with the Tavern.

The atmosphere was cute and the server was nice... But that's all that was good. A mouse ran across the floor, and the bartender assured me that "they don't go near the food. It's an old building in baltimore." As if that was a sufficient explanation. The food was overpriced and only mediocre. I was highly disappointed by this whole experience.

Ive heard mixed reviews on this place but was told it has an excellent burger and being local to the Mt. Washington area I was very excited to finally try it out. We go out to eat fairly often all around Baltimore but for some reason we hadn't had the chance to sample the Nickel Taphouse. It was early on a Sat night and my wife and I didn't have a sitter so we decided to run up to Mt. Washington for a quick burger and beer with our 1yr old son. Being as it was only 5:30 we did not make a reservation but we checked on Open Table on the way there and there were 2-3 tables available for 5:30/5:45. When we got there 2 mins later, the restaurant was completely empty except a few people at the bar and 1 or 2 people at tables. We asked for a table for 2 and a highchair. The man at the front asked if we had a reservation and I told him we did not, he told us that they couldn't seat us. My wife looked around in complete shock, the place was EMPTY, we told them that we just want a quick burger and a beer but that didn't seem to matter, he was set on turning us away. Then I got out my phone and showed him that open table had available tables for this time and I actually made a reservation right then a there. This still did not matter, he told us that they were booked for the evening and he didn't know why open table had avail tables, must have been a glitch in the app. I wanted to stay and argue my point for longer but my wife was not having it- she stormed out the door and walked down to the Tavern. I stayed for a few more minutes in awe of the complete lack of costumer service. It really wasn't worth pushing it any further- who wants to eat somewhere when you get a welcome like that. I could understand if this place was bustling with people and if they had a packed bar they may not be able to squeeze us in but it was completely empty and it was 5:30 ....and I made a res on Open Table !!! Not sure I'll ever get my wife back in there to give it a whirl and im not sure I really want to myself. Its unfortunate cause I really do like their other restaurant Birrotecca, never had a bad meal or issues with service...
