Nice atmosphere, perfectly cooked filet, and like every restaurant in this town , it was reasonably priced. They even brought me green beer for St Patrick's day. Looked like they could accommodate large parties, though we were only 2
I celebrated my birthday at the Trail Boss and enjoyed every bit of it! Our server, Kaidence (KK), was the best! My steak was amazing and cooked just the way I ordered it. We will definitely be back again! FYI: the lemon drop martinis were amazing!
They must have been having some AC issues because boy it was hot inside. Other than that, everything was amazing as usual. We did notice that the menu had changed a little bit. That was a pleasant surprise as well.
Fantastic, all of it. We had a great time. Got there just before 5 and sat down right away, there were 5 in my party too. We all tried what the other got and loved it. My only criticism is the fish was a little soggy and the air conditioner blew right on us so we were cold the whole time. Those aren't deal breakers though, we will be back and SOON.
Went with a group of 6, walk-in. Greeted immediately and got seated quickly. Staff is great and a lot of fun. Food was great as well. I got the chicken fried steak and wife got the rib-eye, both were delicious. Our waiter, Samuel, was non-stop friendly and smiling and making sure we were taken care of. This is a down-home, welcoming country feel that works great. And if you like Key Lime Pie, try their margarita!
I have been here twice so far. Once for a date with my husband and the second time was a reservation for 22 people for our wedding party. Both times were a great experience. Both times the staff were friendly, the place was clean and the food was amazing. 1st visit we both ordered seafood and it was really good. The 2nd time we all ordered different things off the menu and everyone loved all of it. We will definitely be coming back for many more date nights.
Great atmosphere, wonderful service and good! Would definitely try this again!
One of our all time favorite spots to eat in Bandera. Their fried chicken is to die for.
Excellent staff and food was spot on. Accommodated a large group, and did perfectly to serve each one of us. Tomahawk was top notch and would order again and again.
What a great place!!! Food was out of this world! Our steaks were exactly made to our request. The staff was amazing as well. No wait and the street was full to the gills with bikers Great town! Will make the drive out here again!!
My husband and daughter had NY strips, which were tender and tasty, though not very thick. My fiilet mignon was more like a thick piece of brisket. We all ordered med. rare, but it was more like medium well. The merlot was great, and so was the chocolate martini. We will return but will not order the filet.
Frieda has such a positive attitude and helped make our anniversary dinner special. The food was delicious. It was our first time at the Kerrville location, and we will definitely be back.
Owners have outdone themselves with this amazing addition to the Bandera community. The best prime rib and potato in the area!
Our server D’Linn was amazing! Would come back just to see her! Food was amazing and drinks as well! Highly recommend:) I had chopped beef and hubby had beef tips and omg! So good! Can’t beat the prices :)
Jaycee is the sweetest girl I have ever met from the beginning to end she took care of every need I will be coming back just for her thank you for hiring a baddie <3
First off, our server KK is the absolute best! We will request her every time we go, hoping she is there! Fast, sweet, and attentive. Food was excellent. Do wish the ribeye steaks were thick cut, even if smaller sized. Great choices all around!
Awesome food, hospitality, and friendly service with a smile! We currently live up in NE TX and we have many restaurants where we're from and no place up there compares to the REAL COUNTRY hospitality here! Highly recommended! Just 30 miles from Utopia, TX ("Seven Days in Utopia" movie filmed there, staring Robert Duvall) where I lived many years ago.
My wife and I spent the day at Garner State Park and wanted to grab an early dinner on the way back to San Antonio. I saw this online and we decided to try it out. From the minute we walked in, there was a really friendly vibe. You got the feeling they were actually happy you were there and not just a customer. The atmosphere was great, kind of a rustic feel to it. Our waitress was great without hovering over us. My wife had the 10 oz sirloin medium rare with corn and a Cesar salad. As for me I went with the chicken fried steak and green beans and French fries with gravy. The food was incredible. The seasoning on my wife’s steak was perfect. I can honestly say that my chicken fried steak was one of the three best I’ve ever had. All the sides were great as well and the gravy was delicious. Even leaving the restaurant we were thanked three times for our patronage. I live just under an hour away and this will be an establishment that I will visit again. Prices are good, staff is great and the food is amazing. Like hitting a trifecta at the track!
The cooks did an absolute amazing job with the salmon. The rice and mix veggies were excellent with a great presentation! The drinks were cold and Lisa did an amazing job behind the bar. Highly recommend!
Food was cooked to perfection and they had a variety of sides to choose from. Everything tasted amazing and the service was fast and courteous. Would recommend to anyone looking for an amazing steak.
We had our rehearsal dinner at Trail Boss and it was fantastic! Service was great and food was delicious. The food is always great and Texas as it gets just like good ol Bandera and it never disappoints!! Keep up the good work and thank you!
Trail Boss Steak and Grill is a sweet hole-in-the-wall place we are all looking for. The bar keep, Alicia, was a lovely young lady with a calming vibe. I ate the Primal, which is the superior reincarnation of the Philly Cheese Steak. Sliced Prime Rib on a Hoagie Bun with Horseradish Cream Sauce, Swiss Cheese and a Side of Au Jus. Next time I will add mushrooms and an extra side of the Horseradish Cream Sauce. Instead of the fries or chips, I upgraded to the Onion Rings which are thickly sliced and delicious. I drank the Bantucky Bellini, the House Cabernet and the Lavender Lemon Drop Martini. On the back of the menu there is the Chef's Choice which is buying the Kitchen a round! Do it! And then tell the bar keep to add their after work choice on the tab too!!! Thank you, Alicia!
Omg. That is definitely how I want to start this review. The food was amazing!!!! I got the chili cheese fries as an appetizer and then for my entree I got an 8oz sirloin steak medium, with a side of guada Mac which was soooo good! The best flavor of mac and cheese I’ve ever tasted at a restaurant. It’s a smoky flavor cheese and it’s delicious! I got a side salad add bacon with ranch. I will definitely be back and I’ll be bringing more people to try trail boss!
Decided to stop here on our way home from Boerne and it did not disappoint! The Chicken Fried Steak is hands down the best I’ve ever had. My husband and I also got a side salad which came with homemade ranch dressing. To top things off, our youngest was exhausted and crying because all he wanted was ice cream AND sprinkles (which they normally don’t have sprinkles). Our waitress and staff went above and beyond to find some random black sprinkles they had stored away and they even crushed up some graham crackers for him to put on top. If I could give this place more stars I would!
This is a regular for us. 1x month at least. Service is mostly great! I think we've only had 1 issue over the years. Feels homey. Love the decor. Love that it's not an ordinary menu. Common items with love and flare. Wish the entrance was a little easier on my knees, but we manage.
Laid back dining with a cowboy charm, I was pleasantly surprised by the menu offerings and liberal libation choices. My choice of old school pork schnitzel was spectacular! Potato mash and steamed broccoli were perfect accommodations. My wife had a magnificent wedge salad with homemade Blue Cheese and a bowl of straight lace, no frills, delicious to the last drop chili. Already making plans to go back!
The bartender Avery was THE BOMB!!! Best top shelf marg ever! This girl can juggle the bar & restaurant folks. Super impressive….
As usual this place didn’t disappoint!! The best restaurant in Bandera. Chicken cordon blue and chicken franchise was on point! Had a new waitress tonight, Taylor who was fantastic!
We stopped here for lunch yesterday and it was absolutely delicious. I ordered the hamburger steak and my husband ordered the chicken fried chicken. You can’t go wrong with either of these! Perfectly seasoned comfort food in generous portions.
OMG!! This place is AMAZING and so delicious! We had the tomahawk steak cooked medium, which came out perfect! It was so juicy n tender. We also had their bread pudding for dessert which was the best I've had since my mother made it growing up! We can't wait to go back!! Our waiter and the rest of staff are also really friendly n nice, give it a try, you definitely won't be disappointed! Another restaurant win for Bandera!!
Brought my wife and son here for lunch on a Sunday. There was a short wait but just long enough for us to order a drink from the bar. The Old Fashioned is decent, few places do the large ice cubes aside from that it was pretty solid. I had the 10oz ribeye, medium rare, it was good while the other two both had the chicken fried steak and said it was great. I would come back again for sure.
Had the chicken fried steak. The green beans were fresh and good. The mashed potatoes were not the instant blah crap one usually gets. The mashed potatoes were good. The gravy was a little spicy. I liked it. The steak was great. 5 stars Highly recommend Our waiteress was Taylor. She was on point. She didn't miss much and pro actively kept the meal flowing 5 star waiteress in Taylor
My boyfriend took a customer’s suggestion to try a restaurant in Bandera, but when we got there, neither of us were impressed with the menu. So I searched Google for the closest steakhouse and found Trail Boss. The restaurant was quaint and absolutely adorable. The service was impeccable, even though they were understaffed due to an emergency with the manager. My boyfriend and I waited at the bar for a table and ordered the stuffed mushrooms. They came with a gravy that was unbelievably good. We went ahead and ordered the 16 oz. ribeye right before our table became available. Once we were seated, they brought out our steak — and let me tell you, I have tried a lot of ribeyes in my life, and this was by far the best one I’ve ever had. We split the steak with two sides: a baked potato and Brussels sprouts. He finished his half, and I couldn’t quite finish mine, so I took the rest home. It was that good. I’m so happy we found this place. I would absolutely recommend it to everyone.
A fantastic meal served with a smile. I had an awesome ribeye steak that was tender and hot. The homemade steak fries were delicious. Competitive prices
My cousin recommended this place to my husband and I. We used to go to Bandera more frequently until I became disabled. Lately, I have no desire to eat. This place changed that for me last night. I'm treated as a bother for most of my special food requests everywhere I go, USUALLY. Tonight, I was actually anxious for nothing. The Waitress Stacey W. was amazing. They were busy and I didn't feel ignored one bit. I would put a photo of the food but I... Kinda inhaled it. Also, Sprite with Peach Schnapps and cherry juice is really delicious. It went well with the white chocolate blueberry cobbler cheesecake. That is phenomenal. Oh and definitely look up. This is the most beautiful ceiling I've seen in a long time. I wasn't expecting it either!
My family and I were there celebrating a birthday for. When we got there we were slightly unprepared, and because we didn't know our true party size we were originally turned away. It wasn't super busy, but they did have another big party. The assistant manager, Corey stepped in and made it work. The food is always great, and we have never had a problem with the service. Today stood out because of Corey, and our waitress, Kate. Those two did a phenomenal job handling our tables, and provided some of the best customer service you'll find in Bandera.
Shockingly good. The chicken fried steak was seriously Outstanding. My father and I search out the best chicken fried steaks. It was hands down the best I have ever had. Fries were perfectly cooked and seasoned. Service was spot on. I believe her name was Sarah. Funny and Fast !
Enjoyed another wonderful supper at Trail Boss! My husband and I discovered Trail Boss about two years ago and continue to return again and again. I love that I can enjoy real vegetables paired with quality protein. My husband's go-to tavorite is the chicken-fried steak, made with top sirloin and very little gristle-always tender and delicious. This visit, I decided to branch out and try the salmon, along with my favorite brussels sprouts and sautéed spinach. The salmon had a unique and flavorful twist with a lime cilantro cream sauce. Trail Boss isn't just our regular spot-we take everyone who joins us in Bandera here first. Visiting with manager Corey Morgan is always a pleasure; his conversations are as enjoyable as the food. He also shared the great news that they're now offering lunch specials, similar to their sister restaurant in Kerrville. We were especially blessed to have Kinsey as our waitress last night. Her smile, positivity, and joyful heart truly made our evening even better. An all-around excellent experience once again!
Super friendly folks and very tasty food! We had the stuffed mushrooms and they were delicious and piping hot. Our steaks were juicy and perfectly cooked, but a little undersalted. Our cocktails were delicious. We went on a Saturday night and had a 30-minute wait to get in, but service was fast once we got in. Definitely recommend if you're looking for a decent dinner spot in Bandera.
Amazing that this wonderful place is in the quaint town of Bandera. Wish I lived closer. The food service and atmosphere were perfect. Praline cheesecake is to die for. Seasonal salad and okra were delicious. I already want to go back!
Can't say enough good things about this place! We stayed over night in Kerrville and the hotel recommended this place. OMG..they were so right. That was the best filet mignon I have had in a long time! It was cooked exactly as I ordered (medium rare), which most restaurants don't know how to cook! Would love to know the seasoning they put on the steak! Pricing was very reasonable and the portions are perfect. If you go through, be sure and check them out, trust me you will not be disappointed!
This was a magnificent sandwich! It was highly recommended from an acquaintance of mine who apparently frequents this place. I got the prime rib sandwich with a creamy horseradish sauce on it and a cup of au jus, with a side of onion rings. The sandwich was super delicious, and the messier the better! The onion rings were a little underdone for my liking, but that’s just me as I like them super crispy. It’ll be that one thing I remember to mention the next time I definitely go back!
My daughter and I was on the area for my birthday weekend and was looking for a good steak. It was somewhat busy and yet didn't feel crowded. The atmosphere was great. We were welcomed upon entering. Paige was our waitress and was phenomenal. Our steaks were cooked exactly as ordered. We definitely recommend and would come back if on the area again. I would give 10 stars if I could.
This place has the best food I've ever had. We decided to take a cruise out to bandera just for lunch and to check out the town and boy am I glad we did. The atmosphere was perfect with a cowboy style steakhouse. The service was amazing and Jarrett took great care of us. The steak was cooked perfect The green beans were succulent and the bacon-wrapped shrimp was phenomenal. If you're in town you should definitely stop by this place and eat lunch or dinner. They also have incredibly good desserts. Do yourself a favor and come here at least once in your life.
We waited 10 minutes for someone to come out and seat us. Hostess was in kitchen. Got irritated with me when I asked if we were to seat ourselves, told me we had to wait. Several groups seated appeared to have been waiting to place an order for a bit. If I had been on lunch break, I would have been late getting back. When we were finally able to order, food came fairly quickly. Our actual waiter was great and very friendly. Hamburgers were great. Might try again if I visit Bandera again, but that Hostess needs an attitude change and to be available to seat.
Food is good and fairly priced for a steakhouse in the Hill Country. Which all are notoriously over priced.
The service was great! But.... I ordered the beef tips and they were so over salted I couldn't eat them! I did order my food to-go so that may have something to do with it. Had a couple beers at the bar and the bartender was awesome. Very busy but awesome. I will try this place again but not having high hopes on the food side of things.
Have gone several times. Love the food. Rib eye, steak, chicken fry steak, burger and soup all been good. Service is good. Love the half wedge with my entres.
It was a last minute decision again for dinner in Bandera, Tx. The restaurant was on 11th Street which we knew where that was. Pulled up to the bar that we have been before and right next door was the restaurant. We were greeted right away and sat at a booth towards the back. The place is bigger than it looks from the outside. We were served by a lovely lady, she had a great personality. Home cooking, ya got to love it. I ordered chicken fried steak and my man had the chicken fried chicken. Both of our meals were amazing. It was hard to stop eating it. I took some home and ate it the next day. I will be going back there again. Thanks for the good cooking and great hospitality.
Read about this place online. Drove from SA to check it out. The flavor of the food was good. We had country fried steaks. I had to take part of mine home because I couldn’t eat it all. Our waitress D’Linn was wonderful. Very helpful and accommodating. Our only issue was that both of our mashed potatoes were cold. Too cold to melt the cheese and butter on the hubby’s loaded mashed potatoes. D’Linn took care of it for him. We will come again because there are other things we’d like to try! I heard from another patron on the way out that the praline cheesecake was delicious! 😋
Steak could have been thicker. Everything was delicious. Service was excellent. Interesting place.
Small towns have a peculiar thing about their restaurants, bars and stores. They have their own personality and vibes. This place is no different, the service is great, the decoration makes this place special and with personality. Quiet yet alive. Food, although no bad, is nothing special. I feel like you can find it any other place. That being said, I would definitely come back. Pro tip: you have to try the pecan cheesecake.
We enjoyed eating here. The wait to get a table for 4 was about 45 minutes early in the evening on a Friday. My husband liked his steak. My dad is a big fan of the chicken fried steak. I had one of their burgers and didn’t think it was anything too special. But my mom had their strawberry salad with chicken and it was delicious. I would probably order that next time we went if I wasn’t in the mood for chicken fried steak.
This will make numerous times we’ve gotten burgers that were put in as a medium and very over cooked when we weren’t even asked how we want them cooked. Service was awful. There were literally two other tables yet we waited for our check and over charged in the end. We understand an off day but it’s the same waitress each time. Not impressed this round.
We purchased a fair amount from the bar ( greater than $ 120) in 2 hours and Bar staff unfriendly, food great, music great, atmosphere great!
We came here during the motorcycle rally and upon entering we were seated almost immediately. Seemed as if they only had one person working the floor, and he had a table of 15 to look after. So with that being said it was a good 20 minute or more wait for drinks. When we asked how long did they think it would be to get our food out server let us know it might be a while. Their special for the day was a 26 oz T bone of which we were not in any hurry so we waited. Finally more people started to come out and help serve but it still took about an hour to get our food. We had to try and get people's attention for drink refills, which is always a negative to me. The steak though... it made up for allot. That steak was very very good, and my buddy agreed. I usually get pics of food when it comes out but this time I was hungry and it was so good I only got a pic of the end result lol. It's like to think if it wasn't for the rally going on that they would have done a better job. If ever in their neck of the woods again I'm definitely gonna be stopping by here, out of all the restaurants in town we tried this was the best.
Visited Trail Boss while in Bandera, it is a busy restaurant. The decore is rustic with Western murals. We ordered appetizers, truffle fries, and spices cheese curds. Both were great! It was a rainy day, and I love a good grilled cheese with bacon. I never thought you could ruin grilled cheese, but they did. The cheese only covered 1/4 of the bread, there was 2 small pieces of bacon, and the bread was soggy. The food served to the others in my group looked good. Service was not great. Once we got our food, the server never returned to fill water glasses or bring another coke or tea. We have a table for 5, and only 4 of us ate. On the bill, there was a 20% gratuity added for a large party. The server did not bother to advise of the added tip. I would give them another try; but I would definitely order something different!
We were in a large party we had a very kind waiter. Our wait time for our food was well over an hour, the mashed potatoes were not creamy but very stiff. The recommended dishes chicken fried items and catfish were overly salted. It was not what we had expected.
Hamburgers are very small, buns are not toasted, and there is no flavor. Steak also had no flavor and had lots of gristle. Fried pickles were very salty( sent them back, and they gave us .50 cents credit) Onion rings are not homemade and greasy. Mushrooms are delicious, and the pork loin with queso was good!
I'm sorry for putting in a bad review, but I do have a pretty good reason for it. The dinner went well, and we paid our bill , got our receipt, and left. 20 mins. Later, we realized we did not get our credit card back. We went right back to the restaurant and the waiter couldn't find it. We only had one drink with our meal. Sad to say, we had to cancel the credit card! Now, not having it it puts us in a bind. Getting one re issued was a crazy process and a hardship when you are wintering down here. Note to self- hang on to your card!
Good took almost an hour to get. My fries and hamburger were burnt. I asked for rare hamburger got burned. Very bad tea as well. Our co workers were there too at a different table and they got terrible service bad tea and burnt burgers as well. Not happy customers!
The young teen girl who seated us needs to be trained better. She was folding napkins when we walked in and told us she was busy to give her a minute. Then she had the attitude when she finally got up. The place was empty so they obviously should have been happy to get the business. Our server was great. We ordered filets for $34 each. They were cooked ok but no seasoning to speak of and the cuts they buy are horrible. I could tell the minute I cut into mine that some5thing was not right and it tasted worse. They were both stringy and chewy and we only ate half. My green beans were cooked ok but unseasoned. Husband's mashed potatoes were cold. With tip, our meal was $80. We took our leftover steak around the corner to David for his little dog Rusty. The breakfast sandwich at Sonic was better than this. We aren't the kind of people who send food back, we just don't go back.
First off there was only six other people eating at the time, our waiter made probably 5 or more mistakes also my wife ordered MR steak and as you can see in the photo that thing was still running. Bandera is a tourist town now for the most part, so tourist town you get tourist food. For what you're going to pay I would go elsewhere, I would go as far as to say chillies cooks a beter steak and I don't like chain restaurants, Flavorless food.
I ordered pork schnitzel last time I was here 2 weeks ago. I ordered the same thing and the portion wasn't even half the size of last time. The pic you're seeing has no bites taken out of it. I used to come here each Sunday after shooting at the range in Bandera. No longer will I dine here if you're going to charge me $16.99 for a skimped plate. Also the servers just sit in the kitchen staring at the cooks and doing whatever. Most the time i have to flag down a server that's not even mine to get noticed. I'm hot n thirsty when I come from the range, if I have to beg for a refill you're simply not doing your job. I was a server for years, focus on your tables and maybe you'll get more than a flat 20% tip.
I understand being busy. I also understand being professional. Check in… 30 minute wait on a table. Turned into over an hour. Other than other patrons occupying the tables 30-45 minutes after completing their meal, no hospitality follow-up. Had to ask. Finally, would you mind dining at a patio table. We agreed. Waitress did a great job, although management blamed her inexperience. Yet didn’t know which waitress was serving us. Night fall, no lights on patio. No urgency or concern for accommodating. Meal was great and the Waitress did her duty as best as the management will support. Very unprofessional on the management. No more than a shoulder shrug of complimentary.
I decided to give this establishment a try for the first time on the 9th. I had heard very good things so my hopes were high. Unfortunately, this was not my experience at all. Possibly with another waitress, my experience could have been better but I do not think I will try again. There was a long hair in my plate that looked blonde maybe grey like from the waitress I cannot be sure, I decided not to complains because a mistake can happen. This is not what made for an unpleasant experience. The waitress I observed coughing into her hand before handling food plates, but still i hoped she washed her hands. The unacceptable part of my visit was feeling like an inconvenience to her and for that, i will not be back.
Our first time to eat here. I never order a steak but I decided to today. It was terrible. No flavor and full of fat. I told the waitress and all she said was I’m sorry. You would have thought she would have asked me if I wanted something else or discount it. My husband ordered shrimp and fish the shrimp were over cooked. We will not be back. We will eat at OST or the Forge.
Ill start with the good. Kensie you are a great server and you deserve a better restaurant. The Bad- walked in met the hostess she said their were 3 people in front of us. Said it would be 15-30 minutes. Went to the bar to have a drink and wait and wait, we did. 15 minutes with previous customers food plates in front of us. Finally the less than thrilled Bartender came and took our order. 5 minutes later no drinks but she was busy making other peoples that came in after us. Friends I guess. Meanwhile I noticed people that came in after us were being seated. So I went to ask, the hostess said "Im sorry I forgot to write your name down" as she walked off to seat another couple. Back to the bar, Bartender comes back over ask what we ordered. We tell her again and we politely push the previous customers dirty dish farther away from us. She goes and gets a wine comes back and finally takes the dishes. Then goes and get my drink which she makes wrong. We inform her, she dumps it in the sink like I caused a problem and proceed to make the right drink. Back to the hostess- she's anxiously avoiding me then finally comes over and says do you mind sitting in a small table were the servers come out of the kitchen. We agree. As I said earlier Kensie our waitress was great. We both order ribeyes. When they come out my wife has a ribeye and I get a NY strip. Its obvious so I ask for a manager. She proceeds to tell me my steak is a ribeye they just get them sometimes that look like NY strips. No it was a NY strip. It was already such a bad experience and in the interest of not ruining our night I chose not to argue. Just overall a terrible experience especially when you're buying at today's steak prices.
I like Trail boss food but had a less than great experience Saturday night November 22, 2025. 6pm ish. Very busy but no big deal, told the hostess I would wait the 30-45 minutes and would take a bar seat or bar table if it opened up first. Several people came in behind us. I watched a gentleman palm a bill to the waitress and take the table we were waiting on after my husband clearly and loudly said we were waiting on that table. TJs gets our business tonight and I have to admit the bartenders at TJs are amazing and fun anyway. Its a small town but we still have choices.
