Beautiful Thai food! Fresh and full of flavour

We recently visited Crazy Bear in Beaconsfield after receiving a gift voucher for the 12-course Thai tasting menu — and we’re so glad we did! Before our visit, we did have a look at some reviews and, truthfully, were a little hesitant after seeing a few negative comments. However, our experience was nothing like that. From the moment we arrived, we were impressed by the welcoming, quirky setting. The staff were lovely: welcoming, attentive without being overbearing, and happy to answer any questions we had about the menu. As for the food, every course was beautifully presented and really tasty. There was a great variety of flavours and textures, and it never felt rushed or overwhelming despite the number of plates. It was a fun, indulgent way to spend the afternoon and made the whole gift experience feel even more memorable. We’re so pleased we didn’t let a few negative reviews put us off. We had a truly lovely time and would definitely recommend the Crazy Bear for anyone looking for a unique and enjoyable dining experience

My daughter gifted us a 12 plate meal here. We had a lovely lunch with Champagne, the food was hot, well cooked and a great selection. The staff were very attentive and wiped tables after every course. There are 3 courses and I was very full at the end. I would recommend.

Great food, great service! No idea what all the bad reviews are for. The best Thai we have had in a long time.

I would say that crazy for me is the best Thai around. Recently I visited Hutong at the Shard and I honestly think crazy bear is much nicer.

Great food, staff and experience, ignore the negative reviews on here ref service charges etc. The FoH staff make sure to tell you this is optional and you are not obliged to pay.

After reading some reviews, we weren't looking forward to our visit to the Restaurant. But it has taught me never to read any reviews before you go . For us, it was an absolute pleasure from firstly going into the hotel reception and asking directions for the Thai Restaurant, the lovely friendly girl took my husband and I to the restaurant, so helpful. Then the Restaurant it's self was lovely and quaint. Waitress couldn't be more welcoming and smiling and helpful. The food was tasty and meet was succulent. The food was well presented. I would definitely recommend. Thank you Crazy Bear for our lovely Afternoon Lunch

We had a most wonderful evening at the Crazy Bear in Beaconsfield. The food was out of this world, and the staff extremely efficient and friendly. What a magnificent venue - there was fabulous live music too! Highly recommended.

I usually don’t write reviews, but after my experience here, I felt compelled to share. The staff was incredibly attentive and polite and the food was delicious. I’ve seen some negative reviews, but based on my visit, I can’t understand them. Everything from the service to the atmosphere was excellent. Perhaps expectations vary, but I can confidently say we had a wonderful time and will definitely be returning!

We had a great evening and experience at the Crazy Bear, starting with delicious cocktails in the bar and then a decadent taster menu in the Thai restaurant. The service from the bar team and in the restaurant was great.

My partner and I were gifted the 12 course Thai for a present. We had a great time in a beautiful venue. The service was excellent and the staff were very attentive. The food was pretty good. Glass of champagne on arrival was very delicious. Service charge in our experience is always added in addition to gift vouchers. I don’t know where we went today but it seems miles away from the 1* reviews I have read! Great meal, thanks to the team.

My husband and I had a wonderful overnight stay at the Crazy Bear - a truly sumptuous and unique hotel. The bedroom was absolutely beautiful — elegant, comfortable, and thoughtfully designed — and the marvellous styling throughout the hotel made every space feel special. The staff were exceptionally friendly and welcoming, providing great service from start to finish and making us feel genuinely well looked after. The Thai meal and breakfast were delicious, with high-quality ingredients and plenty of choice, the perfect way to end our stay. A memorable experience all round, and we would happily return.

My husband and I were gifted the 12 course tasting menu with champagne. The food was very tasty and plentiful, and it was great to get a decent helping of a luxury brand champagne. The service was friendly and efficient and I look forward to our return visit.

Visited the Crazy Bear Beaconsfield for the first time today. On arrival we were told that out table for 18:45 had been cancelled due to us turning up late however, our reservation was booked at 20:00(Luckily I had my booking email to hand). The waitress was very nice and accommodating regarding the mistake and we were sat down within 5 minutes. We were booked for the 12 plate tasting Thai menu and wow! The food was delicious!! We will be returning again just for the dumplings!

I really like the place and friendly helpful staff. About the food it was ok but deffinetly overpriced.

Food was nice. Point down as when we ordered we didn’t realise there was a sharing menu. Tried to change food order and at first wouldn’t let us but they did after

S

Too many tables in a very small space. The place is quirky and lovely and the staff do a great job but there are too many tables very close to each other killing the entire dining experience.

Can be difficult to find. No one to welcome you to the restaurant. Staff are nice but tried to get us to buy expensive drinks on top of an already expensive experience. Atmosphere is quite dark

Visited here Sunday evening. Was unable to get a reservation until 20:45 despite there being lots of empty tables upon arrival. Service was prompt and in fairness, the food arrived quickly. We had the sharing starter which was ample and all food was of good quality. I recommend the sweet and sour chicken for mains and the sticky rice was delicious. We did however have to order desserts whilst eating the mains due to the kitchen opening hours which felt rushed. The restaurant is one of the most expensive restaurants I have visited but will be due to the crazy bear name. There are chain restaurants in walking distance of the hotel/restaurant including Giggling Squid and Pizza Express should a cheaper option be preferred.

Visited the Thai restaurant at Crazy Bear for a birthday meal and the food was absolutely delicious full of flavour, beautifully presented, and definitely a highlight of the night. The venue itself is stylish and unique, making it feel like a special place for a celebration. However, the service was quite slow, which did take away from the experience a bit. It was surprisingly busy for a Monday night, which may explain the delays, but it still impacted the flow of the evening. Overall, the food and setting were fantastic, but the pace of service could definitely be improved. Would still recommend it for a special occasion just maybe go with a bit of extra patience!

4 friends and I went to crazy bear for a friend’s birthday and we have been going to crazy bear for over 10 years. Today was the worst service we have ever seen here. We had a meal booked 1.30pm -3.45pm and for some reason the kitchen closes 2.45pm. In the middle our mains we were brought the dessert menus and asked to pre-order our desserts. Then straight after we were asked for last drinks orders. When my friend wanted a coffee soon after we were told we weren’t allowed to order as the kitchen is closed. This is astounding. We then went to the main bar to have drinks and again had atrocious service with drinks not arriving and the table next to us getting drinks even though they arrived after us. Eventually a complaint directly to the manager had to be made by my friend and they apologised and advised crazy bear was under new management as of July 2024 which explains a lot. Such a shame the service has gone so downhill. Won’t be returning here in a hurry unless we hear of improvements through friends.

Very average food cooked by Thai chefs and served by polite Filipino staff in this five star hotel. I have tasted better Thai fare in much lesser known establishments. A truly under whelming experience!

A
Amy Turner

Food was average didn’t get a rice dish with your main meal had to order it as a side dish asparagus was raw didn’t have the dessert I requested waited awhile to be seated

P
Piotr Kulesza

Not what I'd expect. Ordered a spicy soup with shrimps, and a sweet and sour Cotswolds chicken. Dish came quickly, which makes me think it might not be served fresh. The dish was small, as it could only fit two shrimps in it. Highly overpriced taking into account some of the ingredients wasn't edible at all, and I had to leave some leftovers on the plate. Sweet and sour chicken was overcooked making the meat dry, again I had to leave some on the plate. A bowl of prawn crackers, a soup, and a main plus a bottle of water cost me over £60, In general small portions, highly overpriced. I regret going there.

lacks any atmosphere and is quite cold, food is pretty average at best for the price point, service is friendly but quite slow and you have to work to get the waiters attention.

Surprised to be directed down the road to another building entirely for the Thai menu. Pleasant enough restaurant but not the baroque style of Crazy Bear which l love, and too dark in the corner we were seated. The food was largely bland and tasteless, and the service was perfunctory. Very disappointed with this experience, very much in contrast to eating in the main Crazy Bear building where the decor is delightfully over the top, and the food is very good.

A friend of ours knew that we had never been to Crazy Bear so gifted us a ‘signature’ lunch for Two with a free glass of champagne each. It was an Anniversary present through Wowcher and we were excited to try the place out for the first time. The venue was the Crazy Bear ‘Thai’ in Beaconsfield. We parked up easily and walked into the main entrance of what turned out to be the English cuisine version of Crazy bear, we were blown away by the decor and a little disappointed when we were told that this wasn’t for us and were politely directed 50 metres down the road. We expected much of the same, but what a contrast! the entrance downstairs is a scruffy bar area at the foot of some stairs and it was completely unattended. We didn’t know where we were supposed to go and it was at least 5 minutes before someone stuck their head round a corner and told us to head upstairs. By comparison the Crazy Bear ‘Thai’ restaurant is nothing special to look at and is not representative of the lovely website images. A bit of velvet on the walls and dark lighting doesn’t automatically equal luxury and decadence! The service was good, all the staff were very smart, polite and courteous. Beyond that, the food was only OK, not great. A couple of good dishes, but otherwise rather bland and not at all generous in portion size for sharing plates (see pictures). Now here’s my personal complaint and it is more one of principles rather than quality or service. This meal was a gratefully received gift. We expected to enjoy a great meal in the surroundings shown on the website, then to pay for our additional drinks and a nice tip to our server. Instead we got none of the luxury, received a £16 Cocktail that was 70% ice and a tiny soft drink from a mixer sized bottle for £4.50. This is unnecessary profiteering. The 13.5% gratuity was also calculated against an over inflated (pre-discounted) bill of £204. That’s 2x Signature menus at £67 each plus two ‘free’ glass of bubbly at £50. Plus £20 for a tiny cocktail and an even smaller lemonade. All in a £25 gratuity for a very unimpressive lunch. I’m not tight and have no problem paying the tip, but I would have had a real issue with paying £229 in total for that meal. Thank goodness for Wowcher! We had a much better lunch recently at The IVY Asia in Guildford. The food was top notch, the decor and ambience were fantastic and the bill was half the price and felt like great value for money. Just my opinion, but be warned and prepared for disappointment.

We had the 12 course tasting menu. I can barely remember any Thai flavours in our food, and even then it wasn’t exciting food. Disappointing given the reputation of Crazy Bear.

The waiting staff was quite unprofessional a bit rude and blunt in your face especially the one who served us as had no knowledge no recommendations and had a problem with me not eating pork and on asking for vegetarians dishes for a mix with meat would say only for vegetarians… service was very basic and tables were small.. food was delicious but waiters need retraining as spoilt our experience

J
Jasvinder Talafair

Worst Thai Iv ever had flavourless ribs and pork and duck food was dry like its its overcooked or maybe reheated. Rice was so dry didn’t even touch it. Best part was crackers or water that’s pretty poor Should have just gone McDonald’s. I have gout I can to eat most things with moderation weren’t accommodating at all pretty poor experience overall definitely wouldn’t recommend to anyone this makes McDonald’s feel like it’s gourmet.

Awful. I visited 10days ago and held back my review but even now still upset about my visit. The waitress was so rude and condescending I actually wanted to leave before the order was confirmed. And to be frank, ruined the night despite me staying. Service: despite being sat before other tables, they got served drinks and orders taken, and first courses delivered before we even had any interaction. Due to a food allergy, I asked if we could swap a fixed menu item to remove one of the dishes. Was told no… even though a table next to us had numerous changes due to religious reasons. I was surprised and asked if the waitress would check with chef. She replied she had worked there for 11yrs and they don’t do changes. I pointed out the table next to me had changes and she said only for religious reasons. She eventually went and asked and the manager agreed to change the dish. There was no apology and from that point service was awful with our dishes dropped to the table (another waitress also bright food and she was attentive and nice) Food: so it’s natural to have high expectations- but the food served was cheapened by a layer of sliced spring onions and chillies… on every dish. The food felt like it was cooked from frozen packets and reminiscent of dishwasher water to the sauces. Drinks: my first cocktail (which after waiting to even have the order taken) arrived after the starter courses. And it was the wrong order. So I had sat for almost 30mins and had the first dishes without a drink. My neighbour tables were enjoying 2nd drinks and onto mains already. However once the drinks arrived. I was happy with the cocktails. Our bill almost £200 for 2, and I felt like I just consumed a ready meal from Tesco. Ruined my love of Thai food and suggest crazy bear stays avoid and try the English restaurant.

12 plate sharing menu definitely not worth it. Felt like having an overpriced “average” take away. Very disappointed

The food sadly was one of the worst places I have ever eaten. It felt like reheated and cheap meat cuts. The crazy bears standards in this Thai and the English restaurant have dramatically lowered. Such a shame as this place really was a gem.

A
Alison Mcclelland

Waited 45 minutes for food was was well below expectations....after being previously notified at booking of a shellfish allergy we were offered the only menu with 7 of the 12 tasting dishes containing prawns....desert arrived on dirty leaves......would not go again

The food came within 2 minutes of ordering…it was laughable - definitely reheated. Ok service, but wish I had checked the reviews before coming.

We called in to the restaurant to inform we were running slightly late, but upon arrival after waiting for 5 minutes to be seen by anyone, we were declined service being told we were late. If this was informed over the phone then we wouldn’t come here. More so no initiative to make the situation better by staff and in fact rude. Need to train staff with mannerisms and better information over the phone! We then had to get the reservation team to refund the deposit which again wasn’t straightforward. Customer service negative.

My partner got food poisoning.. food was under cooked and bland.. ordered sea bass and also prawns... they reluctantly offered a little of the bill when we complained about the food.. my partner was sick over 6 times throughout the next day.. crazy bear hotel was lovely but the food at there Thai place for us very poor.. I would book the hotel but avoid the Thai restaurant..very overpriced for the poor quality food

K

For a price to quality ratio this place is horrendous. Had the a shocking experience here for my wife’s birthday, we were placed in the back of the restaurant and had tables that arrived after us serviced way before us, I had to get the waitresses attention just to get served our drinks (please bare in mind we had bee sitting for 15 mins at this point). When we finically made our orders for food they arrived stone cold and our seaweed was overbearingly salty. I rarely complain but when an establishment charges extortionate prices the quality and service must match, unfortunately that can’t be said about this spot. The food quality at best is something you can get from a standard Chinese take away. Nothing special at all. This ruined my wife’s birthday dinner and my high hopes for the food.

Overpriced. Bland. Overcooked. Don't waste your time or money. Was really looking forward to some thai dishes but all the dishes were bland and overcooked with no flavour. Asked if they could cook the chicken and pineapple rice without currents. Told yes and the dish had currents. Left disappointed and hungry.

Extremely unpleasant experience celebrating a big birthday at the Crazy bear Thai restaurant last night. No one to greet us upon arriving, waited 10 minutes and we had to approach kitchen staff to make waitresses aware. Unwelcoming greeting and shown to table that was falling apart which they tried to prop up unsuccessfully. They then reluctantly pushed a few tables messily together whilst we were waiting. The host was very cold and condescending. At this stage we would have walked out had they not taken a deposit per head! We were then told we could not have the al a carte menu as we were a large group of 7, not ideal when we had 3 vegetarians and 2 children the group. The food was average, loaded with sugar and not authentic Thai cuisine. Gratuity amount was ridiculous given service received. Ultimately we found the restaurant pretentious, unfriendly and overpriced.

A
Ana Espada

The food is terrible, the pork and duck tasted like it was reheated from previous day, the noodles were flavorless, such as the pork ribs. The best part of the meal was the prawn crackers which says it all about the quality of the food. It is a beautiful place however without proper quality food and good service it is a waste. In the end a bill of 120 plus for 2 persons is excessive and not worth. Look for another Thai restaurante!
