I finally understand what the hype and awards are about when it comes to Boichik Bagels, this place was delicious! The bagel quality here definitely matches those on the east coast so I’m glad to have found a local bagel spot for the future. I came on a weekend morning and as expected there was a line and a bit of a wait but it wasn’t too bad. They set the shop up so that you ordered and waited outside for food only. Definitely recommend the classic sandwich if you’re hungry. It’s a traditional lox and cream cheese bagel. However next time I visit I would probably just buy a few plain bagels and a tub of cream cheese instead as it’s more economical. The bagel was nicely chewy on the inside and toasty on the outside as you want. I wish it were a little bigger but quality over quantity here. My new go to for bagels in the Bay Area and it’s in one of my favorite little shopping areas!
this place makes really good bagels and it’s located in a very cute spot in berkeley. there are lots of cafes and shops nearby as well as a small plaza where you can sit and enjoy your bagel, granted it’s not too crowded. the shop itself is quite small, without seating, but all of the nearby public seating in the area makes up for it, i think. the bagels themselves are very good. the ingredients taste fresh and the cream cheese is spread liberally. i have been here twice now and i plan to come back! it is by no means cheap, but to come here every so often and have a delicious bagel is worth the elevated price. i also quite like the ice coffee.
For many years, San Francisco and Oakland have had wonderful bakeries but lacked the ability to make delicious bagels! That changed when Boichik Bagels opened up their bagel bakeries! We had heard about their fantastic bagels but being from New York City we were skeptical that any bagel shop in Oakland could compete with any of our local bakeries. Well, I’m happy to report that BOICHIK Bagels are absolutely as good if not better than our favorite NYC bagel shops!
Superb bagels and no-nonsense orders taken in-person by staff at the door. Hygienic, fast, and delicious food. Take-out only. Reasonable prices.
Best bagels in the bay! I live in LA so I had high expectations going here. The bagels were perfect and I will for sure come back when I am in the area again. Surprisingly, the line went quicker than I thought.
After a long wait, finally got to try this place. The actual wait to get my bagel sandwich wasn’t too bad. The bagel is likely one of the best I’ve - perfect texture, not too light, not too chewy, excellent flavor. Their sandwich options are pretty standard, but they are very generous. At $8 for a toasted everything bagel, with cream cheese, tomato, red onion, & avocado this is an excellent weekend treat; however, I don’t think I will ever purchase a dozen bagels for $33.
These long awaited bagels did not disappoint. We could have done without the line around the corner, but then again, we probably shouldn't have gone at peak time on a Saturday. The menu was refreshingly simple - just classic bagel flavors, a few cream cheese choices and coffee. But they've definitely got the crispy outside with the light, but not bready inside down - a rarity in the Bay Area.
The line was plenty long but the bagel I had was excellent, on par with what I've had in New York. Soft on the inside, crunchy on the outside, not too thick or doughy. I had a pumpernickel with lox, caper, onions and heirloom tomatoes. I was a little surprised at the salt crystals on top of the bagel but maybe it's supposed to be this way?
Highly recommend this place for bagels in the Bay Area. Friendly staff and quick service. I had and would suggest a "classic" everything bagel with lox, tomatoes, onion, cream cheese and capers which was amazing. 😍 Probably the best bagel I have had in the US indeed. I’m not just saying that for the hole of it 🥯

Favorite bagel shop! Go-to order: salt & pepper bagel (not toasted), hatch chili cream cheese, maybe a tomato. If you love a tangy plain cream cheese, go for the pink label.
unfortunately i’m just visiting, but if I lived in Berkeley I would come here often. They are a little bit on the softer side compared to others that I’ve had, and personally I like my bagels ~just a little bit~ chewier, but they still hit the spot for me. If these were boiled for just a few seconds longer before they’re baked they’d be up there with my favorite bagels of all time. Also the spreads are delish.

This was my first visit to this obviously very popular bagel shop, I wish I had been forewarned other than being told this was the best bagel shop in or near Oakland. First it was difficult to find parking near the shop, I eventually found parking on a side street 5 minutes away, then when I got to the location there was a line of 6 or 8 people waiting patiently in the cold to place an order to a person with a computer and remote credit card terminal sitting outside the left side of the front door of the restaurant. No customers were being allowed into the shop. As the line continued to grow longer a second remote ordering station was added on the right of the front door. Orders were taken at these terminals and then fulfilled and brought out of the front door to waiting customers. Perhaps they had a flood or a fire in the restaurant so they were staying open as best they could, but there were no signs of anything except people waiting. Ah yes, the bagels. Yes, they were good and the choice of fillings we’re very good, but I cannot say they are that much better than a coffee shop closer than a 20 minute drive where I can sit down and drink a cappuccino while waiting for my bagel to be prepared.
This is in the old Noah’s bagel shop from many years ago. I tried it out to see how it compared, and the bagels are good, but there is not as good of a selection, and the atmosphere inside is not the same. There is no place to eat, so it’s just to grab stuff and leave, but if you were in the area and are looking for bagels, this is a good option.
Boichik Bagels is worth a visit as long as you enjoy take out & customizing options. This bagel shop popped up onto my Google search when looking for an option to get a quick breakfast sandwich. This bagel shop is located on a busy road with a handful of other shops nearby. I cannot speak on parking as I walked from my hotel to their storefront. When you arrive, there is a menu out front & someone taking orders. I asked if I was able to go inside & she politely declined. I stepped back & let others order ahead of me because I wasn't sure what I wanted. After a quick glimpse, I just decided to go with an easy standard order of an everything bagel with regular schmear. Once received, I noticed there wasn't anywhere to sit nearby so I walked down the street a bit to give some space for other customers. The bagel itself was solid. It tasted fresh & it was heavily loaded with schmear which is the way I personally enjoy it. The total cost before tax for this item was $4.50 so something to consider but I felt it was worth the value for the quality that I received. My only problem was that I had nowhere to sit in the area so I kept dropping schmear on the ground while trying to eat & I had to go grab napkins to clean it up. Overall, I thought Boichik Bagels offered a solid bagel product & a good amount of schmear options. They do not offer BEC or SEC offerings so do not expect those when coming. They do offer fish options but that is personally not my thing.
Tasty neighborhood bagels. Every time I’ve been there, the bagels have sold out. You definitely need to get there early with the expectation of a 20-30 min wait. We got the Mensch on Everything Bagel and Everything Bagel with lox bagel with cucumber. The whitefish is really tasty but I wish it had bigger chunks of actual fish. The lox spread tastes like normal cream cheese - I wouldn’t pay extra for it. The cucumber is very thick and tasty so I would definitely ask for cucumber for that extra crunch.
Friendly staff but the GF everything bagel was lacking flavor. The egg salad was good but could've been better. Highly recommend the lox bagel though
Delicious bagel. Busy place in high demand. For my first visit, I purchased a bagel with cream cheese and two additional bagels to go along with a coffee. The bagels are delicious. The place is usually absolutely packed, with a line for me outside of the building and going around the corner. My wait time was very long, but my order was ready quickly after I paid.

The bagels are pretty good but the New York Times were just going with a bit of a troll-piece by claiming they were better than bagels you can get in New York. Are they good? Yes, of course, but you set expectations this high and it's very hard to fulfill. I was a bit wary when they asked if I wanted the bagel toasted (I declined). Definitely a good option for locals.

Boichik has always been a great breakfast place, and I have always loved their bagels. Unfortunately today, I ordered a bagel with nutella and was very surprised at the amount of nutella that they gave me. Disappointed.

Gotten their bagels multiple times but honestly don’t get the hype. Bagels aren’t really fluffy the way New York bagels are and price can add up depending on toppings and I don’t find it that worth it. They do a good job with the amount of cream cheese they put in though. Lines can be long on weekends!
