thank you millenium for the birthday dinner, everyone was so nice and lovely, also very accommodating when i asked if they could turn the music volume down to make the dining experience nicer for my hard of hearing great aunt, who now thinks oat milk cappuccinos are better than regular cappuccinos, so a big win. the saffron aioli with the arancini was amazing, the orange creamsicle ice cream was delicious, and i loved the lions mane steak 🫶🏼❤️🔥
Millennium to me is one of those OG vegan restaurants. It's been around for a long time. As long as I've been a vegan 10 plus years. I remember it being a little bit more upscale than when I went this last time. But the food is always amazing. I had the eggplant dish this time around and the eggplant was cooked perfectly and it tasted amazing. It was one of those dishes. I was hoping I wouldn't regret. Great atmosphere! Great location in Oakland. I would highly recommend it for all non vegans to go
The food was outstanding! One of the best vegan meals I’ve had! I could drink the peach-habanero jam from the oyster mushroom dish. I also had the mung bean crepe - the tofu tasted like paneer. The sweet soy glazed eggplant dish had so many unique flavors. Couldn’t tell that the pistachio apricot cheesecake was vegan. Wish I lived here to enjoy more of this menu but will be back on my next visit to the Bay Area.
We went to Millennium to celebrate a friend’s birthday, and the experience was absolutely wonderful. We chose the four-course menu, which I believe is the standard option for weekends. Every dish was outstanding—it’s incredible how creatively they craft vegan meals. The desserts were especially impressive; it was hard to believe they were made without any dairy or eggs. The ambiance was great, the service was excellent, and the food was delicious. I would definitely go back!
Came here for Oakland restaurant week and pleasantly surprised. Truffle vodka pasta was the highlight. Discovered vegan coconut toasted “bacon” for the first time and was blown away but the subtleties (like added crunch textures and slight sweet/tart/spice flavors)that make the dishes stand out.
Our Fall Harvest (Thanksgiving) dinner at Millennium was delightful. As long-time vegetarians, we've had our share of lackluster holiday meals, but Millennium exceeded our expectations. The mushroom torte was a particular standout. The vegetables were perfectly cooked, and the flavors were exceptional. Our server, Steven, who is also a chef, offered insightful recommendations that enhanced our dining experience. The restaurant's ambiance was warm and inviting, making it the perfect setting for a special occasion. We highly recommend Millennium to anyone seeking a memorable dining experience.
We enjoyed the experience immensely. Being out on the patio is wonderful. The service was impeccable. We enjoyed some of our food as we tried many dishes. I loved the onion rings on the burger the most. Not a fan of fried food, but it was amazing. The steak fries and aioli were amazing as well. My son loved the basil coconut ice cream, which did not taste like coconut at all. He joked about wanting a pint of that delicious treat. It was an amazing evening together.
I’ve been coming here for years and love this place. The fried mushrooms are a hit and they have seasonal menus which is great. The only downside is the portions and some of the dishes. Sometimes there are some complicated dishes or things that could be done a little more simple with a lot more impact, if that makes sense. I think y’all should take the burger off the menu and replace or do seasonal burgers to spice it up. Please also bring back brunch and more pizza! The Bay Area is lacking in vegan brunch we need you! The kitchen is great and the staff are so professional and kind. Love this place.
Service was pretty great, very fast and they checked in and refilled water. We had accidentally left a credit card there and they called within 10 minutes so they clear the tables pretty fast but wait for you to leave first. Ambiance was nice and intimate, but not too loud. This would be a good date spot for vegetarian food. Food was okay, might have been slightly overpriced for the flavors. I think the shaved asparagus salad and the tempeh were very well done, the fried mushrooms and the curry were a bit too sweet for my tastes. The millennium burger was a typical vegetarian burger, the "patty" was more beany than other black bean burgers I've tasted and less meaty if that makes sense? But overall I would come again if someone wanted to come, wouldn't go out of my way though.
One of the few higher-end vegan places in the Bay area. This is my first time here. I don't think I will make another reservation and drive one and a half hours from the South Bay to eat here. That being said, it is a solid choice for a nice all vegan experience. It's just probably not the best value for money (and time, if you are coming from more than 30 minutes away). All the dishes are well executed, but nothing to write home about other than it was full vegan. I do like that they source local ingredients and keep a rotating seasonal menu. The desserts are very well done, a good amount of tartness to make it feel like a nice light ending for the meal. The place is also a bit crowded and noisy for the money charged per person.
I don't leave this review lightly but I was very disappointed with my experience at Millennium. I've been eating a lot less meat in recent years for my health and the environment, so this isn't meant to be a dig at a restaurant that reflects these values. Indeed, this was one of the reasons I was excited to go here. As my fellow North Bay people know, there is a lot of choice of ethical, meat free and organic options in the area. That means if a restaurant wants to get fancy about it then it has to deliver. I'll pay a premium for a very nice meal, the price isn't the issue here. I ordered the prefix menu, because everything on the menu looked good and I couldn't decide. Course 1 was a smoked beet salad. It came out, with 3 slices of beet. No leaves, just 3 slices of beet. My table and I joked "where's the rest of the salad". If this was course 1 of a 7 course tasting menu this would be a very different story. Anyway, they were actually very nice. Probably the best part of the dinner. Course 2 was a sweet potato taco. No complaints about this, very nice. Course 3 was Masa dumplings. They were palatable but unimpressive. I almost asked for salt, and maybe I should have. I certainly would not order them again. So my food experience was a 1 in 3 hit. The service was very slow. It was a Saturday night, and I get it, I used to wait tables. Saturday night can be busy. That's why you have extra waitstaff. I don't blame out waitress, she probably just had too many tables to handle. It wasn't just food we were waiting on, it was other service requests too, like an extra plate and menu. The atmosphere was good. Very modern rusty iron and concrete chic. Presentation was good. The music was loud, it was hard to have conversation. My mom and her boyfriend were very underwhelmed with their food, but I'll let them write their own review. My wife enjoyed hers, and I tasted what she was having (the terrine) and it was actually pretty good. This review is just about my experience. Overall, from its reputation I expected great things from Millennium and it did not deliver on those expectations. I probably won't be back.
This restaurant is weirdly afraid of salt and spices. The service was amazing, the ingredients are super fresh and plating + atmosphere is great. The food sadly has mild - no flavor. Well the ingredients do taste fresh but I kept wanting the dishes to be seasoned. They seem to be afraid of spice and salt here. For example the fried oyster mushroom (a fried dish known to be a little salty) had no salt at all. For the price it is, it’s disappointing that there is no seasoning/ flavor. It’s also such an easy fix. If the seasoning was applied correctly this restaurant could easily become 5 stars. 2 people: 2 mains, 2 apps, a dessert and some drinks and the bill came out to about $150 without tip included. It’s 1/3 only vegan finer dining experiences in the bay so I will probably eat here again in the future. Hopefully the chef can adjust the menu to be better seasoned between now and my next visit.
I have eaten here several times, and each time I swear that I will not come back. But like Charlie Brown and the football, I keep hoping that it will work. Dinner here last night started with a waiter cautioning against several dishes. Not confidence-inspiring. We ordered salad and soup -- and they were basic but very good. Then came the mains. A burger that crumbled into a pile of lentils and had to be consumed with a spoon. A pastry brick that tasted like a brick. The bill was $75/head. Vegan food is just not that complicated. I keep thinking that this place will step up. We literally do better with Purple Carrot, the vegan cook-by-numbers kits.
the rigatoni was spiced but was dry, the sauce was chalky and undersalted the tempeh itself was good but the rest of the dish was underwhelming, the carrots and jicama had no seasoning (raw unsalted carrots for a $26 dish), i was hoping it would be at least pickled or seasoned the pumpkin mochi was good though! creative with edamame pesto for a $75 for three dishes i was hoping there would be more flavor
One of the most disappointing vegan meals I’ve had, especially given the price point. I really wanted to like this place after hearing so many good things. As someone who’s often vegan when dining out—and a lifelong vegetarian—I know how flavorful plant-based food can be (just look at Indian cuisine). Sadly, this missed the mark almost entirely. The only highlight: Corn riblets – Surprisingly delicious with a flavorful sauce; the one standout dish of the night. The letdowns: Melon gazpacho – Oddly swung between overly sweet and too salty, though the texture was nice. Crusted oyster mushrooms – Dry, with a mismatched sauce and a very basic slaw that didn’t add much. Vesuvio pasta – Overly salty; only just passable as a main. Eggplant tonkatsu – Felt unnecessarily heavy, lacked sauce, and had too many forgettable components. Corn risotto cake – Lacked flavor overall, though the grilled broccoli was decent. Overall, I left very disappointed. Maybe it was an off night, but based on this experience, I wouldn’t return.
I visited this fine-dining vegan restaurant for the first time on my birthday, hoping for a memorable experience. Unfortunately, it turned out to be one of the most disappointing dining experiences I’ve ever had. I have been vegan for nine years, and having both cooked flavorful meals and dined at numerous vegan establishments, I can confidently say that vegan food is generally delicious and satisfying. However, for the first time, I found myself eagerly waiting for a meal to end just so I could leave. I rarely waste food, but this was one of those rare occasions. Food: The focaccia was extremely dry. The soup was a 1/5—completely unpalatable, and I couldn’t finish it. The kofta was also dry, and the glazed tempeh was, unfortunately, the worst dish I have ever tasted. As someone from India, I am familiar with traditional kofta and uttapam, and these versions were far from authentic or enjoyable. The uttapam was dry and, at best, a 2/5. To make matters worse, I found a lemon seed in my food—completely unacceptable at a fine-dining establishment. The only redeeming item was the dessert, which I would rate a 4/5. Service: The service was sluggish and unprofessional. Despite having a reservation, we were seated approximately 30 minutes late. While that was understandable, the delays in serving each course were excessive, diminishing the overall dining experience. The staff did not replace cutlery properly between courses. After the first course, my fork and knife were taken away, but no replacements were provided for the next course. No soup spoon was given, which was surprising for a restaurant of this caliber. Perhaps the most unexpected part was receiving the bill immediately after dessert was served—before we had even finished eating. Since we were sitting on the patio and a heater went out, they did offer a blanket. Ambience: The ambience was decent. The patio furniture, however, was not well-maintained and felt slightly unclean, though the lighting was decent. Final Thoughts: This experience was underwhelming in every aspect for—food, and service. Finding a lemon seed in my food further highlighted the lack of attention to detail. Given the restaurant’s reputation, I expected much more, but unfortunately, it fell short in every way. I would not recommend it.
