for a quick and solid bowl of ramen definitely go here the noodles are always well made. sometimes this locations quality differs but overall great bowl every time I go. My favorite is the shoyu and tsukemen when it was around
SO good. I came here at least 30+ times over the past year and was never disappointed. The ramen is delicious, and they have great veg options as well. (daizu no chikara) miso is a must try, veg or not, really hits the spot. only downside is that it is $25+ everytime, so certainly a bit pricey but worth it imo. (all the pictures are from seperate visits LOL)
Ippudo Berkeley never disappoints! From the moment you walk in, the friendly staff makes you feel welcome and taken care of. The food is just as incredible—the airy steam buns are perfectly soft and filled with flavorful goodness. The crunchy spicy karaage has the ideal balance of crispiness and heat, making it an absolute must-try. And the ramen? Simply outstanding. The sesame oil broth adds a rich depth that makes every bite comforting and satisfying. Whether you're a ramen enthusiast or just looking for an amazing meal, Ippudo Berkeley is the place to go!
Wonderful and delicious bowl of ramen. Unfortunately the soft boiled egg is separate. Spacing was a bit tight but the staff was able to accommodate a table in the back for a stroller so I can eat with my newborn baby. They also have a small table in the gender neutral bathroom that you can sort of use as a changing table!
One of my favorite ramen places! If you get a bun, the chicken bun is a must-have. The crispness, crunch, and the sauce are incredible. The noodles were well-cooked and the broth was delicious. My friend and I shared one bowl and it was the perfect portion for us since we had a late lunch and stopped by a dessert shop before an early dinner. We thought we had to wait for 20-30 minutes for a table for 2 at a busy dinner hour but we didn’t wait long! About 15 minutes. Reasonable prices, and friendly staff. When we come back we’re trying the other buns and getting extras of the chicken bun!
We stumbled upon this place while we were in Berkeley and wanted to give it a try. It did not disappoint! They have akamaru veggie ramen - one regular and one spicy. Loved the spicy ramen. My friends loved the ippudo chicken buns too. Nice interiors. Service was quick . Staff was friendly. Will come back again!
My friend brought me here after hearing about the ramen. He ordered the Shiromaru Classic and I ordered a steamed pork bun and Karaka Spicy ramen. We shared a side of extra noodles. This was the first time I saw where you have the choice of style and firmness of noodle. We went with what they recommended. I really enjoyed the pork bun. I loved the spicy karaka ramen. Id easily come back here again. The peach sake jelly shot drink was a bit weird but it went down easy!
I had a very enjoyable dinner here with co-workers. The staff are all very friendly and welcoming. I love the inside decor and wondered if any of the shirts and posters are for sale. We came for the excellent ramen, fried chicken, shishito peppers and beer. All of the dishes were presented well and our orders were delivered quickly. The food was fresh and flavorful and I look forward to returning to try other dishes.
Great food! First time trying Ippudo. The ones in New York is always way too crowded so when I figured that there is no line here I just jumped in! We got chicken karaage and buns (2 chicken 1 pork) for appetizer. We had three different types of noodles, one vegetable two red with pork belly and the chicken noodle. All is good! I like their chicken buns! The chicken was made into perfection, soft on the inside and slightly crispy on the outside. The buns were soft and the sauces right on point! The chicken karaage was less impressive, a little bit bland on the taste. The vegetables noddle was good, slightly sour and flavorful. You can choose the hardness of noddles so I got medium form, and it tasted just right for me. Would love to be back for the good food!
Smooth and rich broth with a bit of sweetness. The noodles “kata” firmness were just right. Only downside pricey at ~$17/bowl if you want an egg (and the egg was still a tad cold in the middle). Overall tasty, would eat again if we are in the area.
The service was great as soon as we got there with their attentive and friendly staff. Ordered a few different ramens and my miso tonkatsu was the least favorite. Says more that the other were slightly better, not that mine wasn't good. The karagee (sp?) chicken was very good so can see why that's so popular. Although it is a chain, will recommend giving them a try if you haven't before.
Food: OK, solid for US ramen. Nice to be able to get Hakata style. Broth was solid, presentation was lacking but not terrible. As lunch, this bowl of ramen did not leave me feeling disgusted at the amount of food and oil consumed, which I think is a failing in the world of ramen. It lacks the carefully put-together excess that should be present. Price: too high. Without adding the $4 egg, my $17 bowl of ramen was fairly simplistic and the portion size didn't feel like a serious indulgence the way ramen really should. I think this is one of the better options for ramen I've had in the bay, but as with most US ramen, the value is just not there and this value is worse than some other very solid I've had in the area. Atmosphere and Service: Nice, clean restaurant with attentive staff. The disposable chopsticks are cheap and do fray - not the end of the world. A few hand-trucks of ingredients came through the front at about 1pm - also not a big deal, but did have to interact with that on my way out. Overall very pleased with the atmosphere and service, no strong complains or issues. The Japanese menu wall art is a nice touch. Overall: For me personally, I probably won't come back, but if you're into the local ramen scene you'll probably enjoy this spot.
🍜 Karaka Spicy ramen was 3/5. It tasted like a savory nutty stew (not my favorite). Comparing this ramen to ichiran and Ramen Nagi this ramen reminded me of curry with ramen toppings. Noodles were too soft for my liking. -have to come back and try the other ramen flavors and see if I like them better. 🧆Karage not the best. Just ok. 🥟Bun medley was ok. Service nice and fast. Atmosphere: large space, nice and airy, comfortable to sit in big group.
Salty and greasy. Even adding warm water into the soup doesn’t help. Ordered the miso ramen. The miso paste seems not fully blended. Pickle is good tho.
Ordered a vegetarian ramen, received the absolute OILIEST dish I have had in my entire life (not an exaggeration). Unfortunately did not take a picture, but my ramen was DROWNING in oil, where there was a whole inch of oil floating on a top. When I told a staff member, they seemed very dismissive, telling me it was "normal" but not offering to help at all. I know aroma oil is a component of ramen dishes, but this was an extremely excessive amount, at least a whole ladle of extra oil on top, and this is coming from someone who orders ramen from places often! Flavor wasn't good either, cannot recommend.
The food was very disappointing. It tasted like they made my soup with alcohol and peanut butter, and the noodles were cold. The peppers tasted like they just took them out the bag and didn’t wash them off or anything and just started frying them.
My friend and I (two Asian women) visited this place when there were plenty of empty tables available. However, the waitress still seated us right in front of the restroom, which felt unnecessary and uncomfortable. The food was also very disappointing for the price. It lacked flavor and did not meet our expectations at all. Overall, the experience was not worth the cost, and I don’t think I would return.
I rarely leave reviews, but this meal was disappointing. The ramen was flavorless and served cold, and the meat was mostly fat with very little actual meat. The pork buns were also cold and had the same issue — fatty and just not good. The chicken karaage was the worst part. Don’t order it unless you want to regret it. It was plain nasty and overly fried. Overall, a really bad experience.
The food favor was bland, salty, and cold. The noodle was warm and all the sides were cold. There was no broth. The price does not match the quality of the food. First and last time at this place. For 4 people we spent $146.00 - 3 bowl of ramen, two sides, sushi (15 minutes wait), side of cucumber, 2 drinks. We ordered a side of broth and it was salty. So disappointed. 😔
