Pizzeria da Laura in Berkeley is a fantastic spot for Italian food right in the heart of downtown, just steps from the university. The location gives it a lively downtown vibe with lots of energy from the surrounding area and nearby students. The reservation and check-in process was very smooth. The staff were incredibly courteous, welcoming, and helpful throughout the visit. I actually arrived about 30 minutes earlier than my reservation time, and they were kind enough to seat us early, which was a really nice touch. One thing I really like about this place is that they update their dishes a few times a year, so every visit can feel a little different and exciting. The menu has great variety, especially when it comes to pizza styles as you can choose from New York, Sicilian, Detroit, and Grandma-style pizzas, and the pricing is very straightforward for all the sizes they serve. The pizza was perfectly cooked and tasted great. They also allow you to customize your pizza by adding or removing ingredients, which makes it very convenient for everyone to choose based on their liking. And they add toppings with open-heart. The pasta was also excellent. We ordered the Peperoncino pasta, and it tasted amazing. The garlic flavor and breadcrumbs were really the highlight and brought out the authentic character of the spaghetti. Another big plus is that they have plenty of vegetarian options, making it easy for different dietary preferences. The portions are generous and the prices are very reasonable for what they serve. Food arrived quickly, and the service from the servers and staff was great throughout the visit. The restaurant also has plenty of space and handles reservations well. The atmosphere is lively with lots of people around and students from the nearby university, which adds to the downtown Berkeley energy. A little more upbeat music could add even more charm to the place. Overall, this is a place I would definitely recommend to anyone visiting Berkeley. It’s the kind of restaurant I’d happily come back to again and again.
Definitely one of the Top 3 Pizza restaurants I have ever been to. The food was INCREDIBLE! The service was top notch. The historic building was beautifully transformed into the perfect space of luxury. What a great experience, and I cannot wait to return to try some more of her Pizza. My wife bought her book in hopes of miraculously recreating our perfect meal! Thank you! ❤️❤️
This is my second time eating here and the food is quite good. The first time I ate here, I got the pepperoni NY style with basil. This time we ordered the La Regina Ny style and the Ray J detroit style. All of them were great. The crust is so delicious. I enjoyed the sweetness from the Ray J due to the honey and I liked the crispiness and saltiness of the cheesy crust. We sat outside as I had my dog with me, but service was still great as they were on top of it. The inside is really nice and I like how the doors can open up. Would be a good spot for a small group to dine together. Parking can be hard to find here. We ended up having to park in a garage that was nearby. If you need to use the bathroom, you’ll need to ask for the key because the door requires a card to scan open. It is located on the basement floor. They were clean and nice.
Amazing hole in the wall pizza shop with a variety of delicious and flavorful dishes! Laura is an amazing chef who puts passions and creativity into all the dishes – which makes the pizza and pasta stand out compared to other restaurants. Every few months the dishes change which adds more excitement for frequent customers who come back. You can either dine in or order slices of pizza for take out. NY meat lover pizza ($6.50): not overly sauced with the right amount saltiness. The pepperoni, bacon and other flavorful meats that adds an impact to the pizza. The dough is made to perfection with the perfect blend of chewiness and crunchiness on the crust. Vodka Pasta with sausage ($26): creamy tomato sauce with rigatoni pasta and flavorful sausage. The sauce had the perfect balance between creaminess and tomato and coated the pasta well. The pasta was cooked al dente with the perfect amount of chew. Perfect plate in my opinion. Service: excellent service – within 10-15 minutes of ordering, our food came out freshly cooked. The staff was attentive and very kind. The prices may seem slightly above average but the quality and taste justify it.
The Ray J Detroit pizza was a winner. The unique flavor (mixed with the honey crust) was a tasty treat. The pizza was perfectly cooked with just the right amount of "crustyness". It's too sweet for me to make it a regular choice here but for something different you can't go wrong. The take out help was superb. You will pay for the experience.
They have vegan options here! This pizzeria is a really nice sit-down restaurant. They have regular pizza and they have vegan pizzas that are amazing!!! Reminds me of really pizza before I went vegan. Staff is really nice as well The location is great as it's right in the heart of everything worth exploring. There is a Bart station right next to it so easy quick stop before heading into or out of the city. Highly recommend it!
Loved the standard grandma pie. Crust is chewy and medium thick (pretty much halfway between NY and Detroit thickness). Toppings were great and the square shape was fun. The bottom looks charred and almost fried. Really good pizza!
Great pizza place in Berkeley. We tried every style of pizza they had and every one was good. Our favorite was the Detroit style and New York style. The waitress was friendly and attentive. The vibe in the restaurant was good. Great for family or friends’s get-together. The dessert was a nice treat after pizza.
What a fantastic find! Pizzeria de Laura offers a large selection of pizza options, including New York, Sicilian, Detroit, and Grandma style pizzas! They have a wide range of toppings as well, like vegetarian and meat. If you're looking for high-quality pizza, salad, and service, this is the place to go. They also have very nice drinks.
Amazing place to get some authentic pizza in Downtown Berkeley. We dined here at around 7PM a week before Christmas. We had a reservation for 7PM for 2, but the place wasn't very busy at the time, so may be walk-ins would be okay as well (to guarantee a spot, reserve a table on Resy/ through Pizzeria da Laura's website). We were promptly seated by the host and the server came by and poured us glasses of water and handed us menus. We ordered the Eggplant Pasta, Toots Pizza (Sicilian Style), Pliny the Elder & Mambo Italiano. The Eggplant Pasta was great - the noodles were well cooked, the sauce was tangy, spicy and sweet, and the ricotta added a different texture and feel in the mouth. The Sicilian Style Pizza was the star of the night - the crust was cooked to perfection: light and airy, the sauce had excellent flavor, the veggie selection on the pizza was good & different and there was the perfect amount of cheese on the pizza. All in all, probably one of the best pizzas I've had in my life. I would definitely come back here again to try the other pizzas.

I ordered The Standard Detroit Style. All the toppings work well together, very delicious. The cocktails are great too, I ordered Buona Sera and the Ibisco di Fuoco, definitely recommend those. Looking forward to coming back again 🤘

Outstanding pizza, amazing crust on both the New York and Detroit style pizza. Detroit style pizza can be a gut bomb, but they managed to have a very light airy inside along with the crunchy crust that you expect from this style pizza. And I wasn’t drinking water for hours afterwards because of any excess salt issues from the sauce or the ingredients. Will come back again to try the Grandma and the Sicilian style and maybe bring bigger group so we can order more pizzas to try
Pizza and pasta are as good or better than anything in Italy. Truly great food. And a very nice attitude on the part of the owner-chef who was pitching and seating people, one evening. Salads are wonderful, too. Really some of the best pizza in the world!
The atmosphere was cozy and inviting. The staff were kind and warm. We brought our two young kids with us and we never felt judged or unwelcome. The pizza was DIVINE. We ordered the focaccia to start, it already had a bit of olive oil on it and a beautiful outer crust and fluffy center. Delicious. The pizzas, we got a new york cheese for our kids, and the Sicilian Pazzo for the adults. All delicious, with fresh ingredients and great textures. We will come back.
My niece who was home from college located this place on a search whim. She picked this restaurant based the aesthetics of the menu. (Odd, I know.). We had the margarita (“Marge”) pizza New York style with two orders of the arugula salad. Both were delicious. The arugula perfectly mixed with a light lemony dressing and piled on top with light fresh cheese. The pizza crust was fresh chewy and perfectly cooked. Food service was quick and multiple friendly staff provided service that kept everything moving at the right place. Pricing was affordable and definitely a value. I highly recommend and look forward to a return visit.
The crust is light, very light and not heavy to chew. People don't realize how hard this is to make on a consistent basis. The sauce is rich and flavorful. The toppings are bite sized or smaller which you rarely see. Most pizza has oversized toppings. Overall a lot of care goes in to making this pizza. I'm from the East Coast and have lived in the Bay Area since 1994. I can confidently say this is the best pizza in the Bay. We'll done!
Parking in this area sucks but the pizza is worth it. I have came here 2 times in the last month because of work and have not been disappointed yet. I get the Sicilian style, the crust has the perfect crunch to it and is soft on the inside. The red sauce has great flavor and the toppings taste fresh. Atmosphere is chill and laid back. Definitely would recommend. Best pizza in Berkeley in my opinion!

Matt's next stop on his excellent East Bay Pizza research is Pizzeria da Laura. Pizza da Laura has all of the ingredients that make a thin crust pizza great. Chewy yet crusty dough that stands up to any toppings you want. My pie came with quarter size pepperoni liberally added to a tomato and cheese base that made me smile. Location is central Berkeley near campus. Parking can be challenging but their are dedicated lots near by. Berkeley has become a Mecha for outstanding Pizzas, and Pizzeria da Laura is definitely in my top three. If you are going to Cal Football or an event at the Freight, Matt says drop by Pizzeria da Laura for a pie. You can thank me late

Good pizza but perhaps avoid the pastas 🫣 Next table had thick crust pizzas that looked amazing, so might come back for it next time!
Food was top notch! Went here yesterday and had some awesome pizzas! The waiter did mess up our order (brought out the margarita one instead of a different one we asked for), but I’m not going to complain because it was still so good!
Award winning pizza from an award winning pizza maker (literally).... But is the pizza good ? I would say it's not good, it's fantastic. Pizzeria de Laura is a bright, cheerful, warm, and friendly restaurant..., perhaps a strong reflection of the owner herself. Pizza comes in 5 different crust styles, and there are many topping options to choose from. We had the pazzo (like a meatlovers) pizza, and it was great. From the first bite to the last, the crust was crispy on the outside and soft and chewy on the inside. The pepperoni had a distinctive smokiness that I particularly liked. All ingredients are top-notch. Pizzas are served on a wire rack to prevent the crust from turning soggy. This is very good. There's a lot more to choose from on the menu, but we stuck to the pizza. Maybe we will try some else on the menu next time. More likely, we'll just order more pizzas. Of note, They have a full bar, upstairs seating, and a takeout counter that sells individual slices until.4pm Service was very good. Staff came by several times to check up on us. There is a large parking garage about 2 blocks away. About 3 or 4 dollars per hour. The Bart station is just down the street. If you find yourself in downtown Berkeley, give Pizza de Laura a try....I found eating there to be a delightful experience.
Got La Regina Detroit style to go. The dough was perfect and held strong but also still soft and airy. So good! The crust had some caramelized cheese on it which you'd think would make it even better but for me it was just a tiny bit too much. Woody and salty. I would definitely return though. Looking forward to my next visit!

Excellent pizza! The hostess was not very welcoming. The downstairs area is small and nice. The upstairs is plain. Outside is small. We preferred the Sicilian style. Grandma style was a bit too crunchy for our tastes. Well worth the visit. Make a reservation and ask for the downstairs area.
Yummy, yummy! Highly recommend that you have reservations. Also, highly recommend that you try more than one crust - meaning at least two different ones. This place rocks the pizza and the salads are great...but don't sleep on the meatballs! These little guys almost stole the whole show! So good 😊.
