Food was amazing, the staff was enjoyable and the overall atmosphere of the diner took you back to the good old days with a few modern upgrades. But overall just so cute and awesome place to go for breakfast and from the looks of the menu a good dinner and lunch options.

I keep going back. It's hard to find a place that cares about what they are cooking. Been there 3 times and it's been above par every time. service is great. I even heard last night if it's not on the menu they can make a custom order for you. Who does that? order what you want? wow.

We have been coming there for years. American coffee shop and Mexican menu. Good food friendly staff with good prices. Everything is cooked fresh. They have many menu items you cant normally find at most restaurants. We will keep coming back. Love it and its staff.

One of our favorite places to eat in Bixby knolls. Sixties decor recently updated and refreshed. They have a great selection of burgers and sandwiches along with soft drinks and shakes. Guarantee you'll hear some of your favorite old Rock classics playing and all that brought to you fast, hot and with a friendly smile.

Amazing❣ As always❣ ive been dining here since i was young this establishment once Grissingers, then Terrys coffe shop and now George's 50's diner has NEVER disappointed! The food, service, prices and atmosphere are excellent! George and Helen are beautiful souls❣ When they had a fire and were closed down for a while i was at a loss no one has biscuits and gravy i care for other than them! Once upon a time when i lived out of state for a few years though i missed them terribly, I loved watching A Cinderella Story and Corina Corina just to reminisce about the diner i love so much back home

This place appears from first impression to be past it's prime, however it holds a charm and beauty all its own. The paint may be a little faded but the staff certainly have a way of brightening everything up! Servers and crew were top notch. Nothing I could fault them on. The food was fresh and more like home made than today's portion controlled restaurant format. Special requests were handled with a smile and not forgotten by servers. Value was amazing in today's market. Comparable meals cost several dollars more at chain places and can't even begin to compare to the fresh taste of everything here. Decor was a decent attempt at a 50's design. Checkerboard floor tiles, classic colors a plenty along with booths that fit the theme. The walls and shelves were adorned with memorabilia and photos from the era, not just cars, but images of local area taken back in the day. It was a unique place and a very enjoyable experience that I hope to soon repeat! A++

In comparison to some others 50's style diners, this one doesn't seem crazy colorful from the outside. I went here on a cloudy Saturday morning, unfortunately the day BEFORE a car show, which is why it was only about half full. Right when we walked in, we're greetes by who I think is the owner, but he welcomed us very politely allowing us to choose where to sit. There is some decent decor on the walls too. The servers were incredibly nice and humorous too. The most stand out thing, however, was the value of the food that you can get here. I got Country fried steak, eggs, bacon, a pancake, and something else all for under 15 dollars, which really filled me up. Would recommend completely, especially on a car show day!

What can I get here that has no sugar, no carbs and is fat free? They don’t even have Voss, water from Norway. They only have water from the valley.

My fiancé and I ordered breakfast and lunch/dinner each. Service was fast and friendly. The pastrami burger was great, the blueberry pancakes were amazing. Onion rings and fries were crispy and delicious. The chicken fried steak was scrumptious and the gravy was savory. The vintages 50's aesthetic was also fun and a little rejuvenating considering most restaurants around are ultra modern. The music playing is all 50's and is a great listen. To top it all off, the prices were outrageously low. 10/10 experience, would eat here again.

Good food, great atmosphere, and great people. Once a girl from a nearby school was waiting at Starbucks across the street for her mom to pick her up and got scared of a stranger that was staring at her so she came over to the diner to ask if she could call her mom. The owner let her call her mom on their personal phone and upon overhearing what happened the owner told her to wait in the restaurant for mom and spoke to the mother explaining where to park. The owner told the girl to come to the cafe anytime to wait because it's safe and gave her a soda and fries on the house while she waited for her mom. Very nice small-town-like atmosphere.

If you want a tradition dinner with good food, great service this is the spot for you. Breakfast menu is huge with great options for both adults and kids. Weekend breakfasts can fill up, but the food comes out fast so never had to wait more than five minutes. Plus there is always the counter if you want a quick place to sit and eat.

George's 50s diner is everything a diner should be. Breakfast, burgers, fries, shakes, pies and burritos? Yes you read that right, George's not only serves all the usual diner standards, but they also serve some Mexican offerings too, like breakfast burritos and chorizo and eggs. Everything on the menu is delicious and George (the owner and chef) and Helen (front of house) make sure that everyone feels like family. On this lunch visit with my father I had the 62 Thunderbird Burger (with strips of green Ortega chiles), onion rings and a bottomless iced tea. The burger comes partly deconstructed on the plate. The leaf lettuce, tomato and pickles come on the side so that you can add only what you like onto the burger. A very thoughtful touch. My father had the chorizo and egg breakfast plate with beans, rice, tortillas (corn or flour) and a bottomless coffee. All the ingredients are high quality, expertly cooked and generously portioned. Don't miss the opportunity to have some great food and great service with a slice of history.

I went their for the Re-Grand Opening. I worked there when it was called Terry's. Gorge was the head chef at Terry's. Him and his wife took it over. Unfortunately it caught fire. I went to the Re-Grand Opening of George's 50's Diner. Looks great. George and Helen has done a great job in building the historic location.

We got the Crispy Chicken Salad and they are HUGE AND PERFECT and worth every penny! I forgot to get pictures when they first brought them out, but they have everything on them! You will love these salads! They don't have the salads in the options below when it asks you to check off what you recommend, so I just chose the biscuits and gravy and the toast from the options available because I saw the biscuits and gravy and the toast and they are huge servings that look very very delicious. You will never regret eating here. We live in the area and we are definitely coming back. Six thumbs way up. 👍👍

A great little retro diner down in Long Beach. I am working through a list of all diners in LA County and next up on my list was George’s. It’s a classic Los Angeles throwback diner, which I personally love. They don’t have outside seating, but they have plenty of tables inside as well as counter seating. Our server was also extremely polite and everything that we ordered came out as requested and quickly. They have a large parking lot attached with plenty of free spaces so parking will never be an issue. For my first visit I chose the Hamburger Steak & Eggs and really enjoyed all of it. The eggs were cooked exactly as I requested, and the steak was done perfectly. It had a lot of flavor and the portion size was very generous. The coffee was strong and the price was fair so I would definitely recommend to any diner fan or to anyone searching for a great casual spot for breakfast or lunch.

🤩 A One-of-a-Kind Los Angeles Gem! If you are looking for a dining experience that is unique and bursting with charm, you must check out George’s 50s Diner in Long Beach. This place isn't just a diner; it's a step back in time! The aesthetic and charm are one-of-a-kind. The whole place, from the colored booths to the classic decor, feels like a true, authentic, old-school mom and pop diner that you don't see anymore. It's immaculate, vibrant, and full of nostalgic character. But the atmosphere is only half the story. The heart of George's 50s Diner is its amazing staff. It’s clear that this is a family-run and operated establishment, and the folks who work there are genuinely so kind and welcoming. A huge kudos to George, Helen, Arturo, and the entire staff… you make every visit feel like coming home. Don't miss out on this Los Angeles gem!

Classic 50s style diner, and also serves great mexican food for breakfast. So far I've only visited for breakfast on Sundays, so I can't speak on their lunch or dinner. Staff is very friendly and the building has been cleaned up perfectly since the fire. The outside bathrooms are a little wierd, but hey, what are you gonna do?

K

So glad to see this place reopened after the fire. Great vibe and the decor makes it feel like a nostalgic time capsule. Food is pretty good and it is not too expensive. Come for the cars that congregate on weekends but stick around for a burger and a shake.

P

A good burger, not a great burger. Too much bread, not enough hamburger. Fries are slightly undercooked which is too bad cause they use good quality potatoes. The staff is very nice.

Great atmosphere of a 1950's diner. It is authentic with window booths seating 2 and a counter facing the kitchen. For larger parties, there is an adjoining room with tables and booths. Food is delicious!!

I thoroughly enjoyed my time here. Luckily, we drove by and noticed that it was open after many, many times, noticing its doors were closed. I ordered one of their sandwiches of which was very surprisingly excellent. So much so that I would have liked to order it again to take home. My friends all got different things, and I could say everything was pretty good for what it was.

My son and I almost completely satisfied. Quick service. Good coffee. Great selection. Good specials. Potatoes should always be as George's makes them. My ONLY gripe is the cost of one glass of milk. It is greater than what I pay for one gallon at the store. Absurd!

S
Stretch Head

We ordered burgers with onion rings and fries. I really wanted to say excellent but average at best. Fries were almost white, not cooked enough, rings too much breading, bun was too big and dry. This is a nostalgic place with a limited menu. Close at 2 PM.

I thought this place was still closed when I saw people inside. They should put some signs in the window. I largely ignored the building knowing it was closed previously. But its open! The place is very clean and new looking with a true 50s look. Very cute. I ordered French toast, 2 eggs and bacon. Not hard. Came super quick and was tasty. I'm pretty sure the butter was margarine (eww), my only complaint. But a cool place and well priced!

Decided to get the bacon breakfast burrito. Very tasty, especially the cheese for some reason. Love that they add rice. Only thing missing from the atmosphere is the 50s pop music.

I haven't been here in about 20 years (moved out of state) but not a lot has changed, that I remember. The food is good and served hot. The servers were very nice but struggled to understand what we said (English is not their first language). They made a few mistakes but corrected the ones we brought to their attention quickly and politely. We would definitely go back if we lived here.

Came here to have breakfast with my best friend and her daughter. Place looks kinda run down, staff was friendly, the food was good, a little on the cold side but it tasted pretty homemade which I liked. The only thing is we had to keep asking for the obvious things like, straws, napkins, silverware... They forgot to add the avocado to my friend's omelette so they brought it on the side, but the staff didn't seem upset or bothered by us asking for the things we needed.

I grew up watching a cinderella story and it’s still my favorite movie. I was so stoked to visit the location of its filming! The staff was so nice and let us take pictures when we finished our meal (which was at closing time). It was so fun so figure out how the movie was filmed in the diner. Ordered the chicken fried steak. It was delicious. Wanted extra crispy hash browns but they were not crispy. I ding think the server was paying attention. He seemed rushed. Overall it was good. Pricing was average compared to other nearby spots

Cute diner! Fast service and sweet waitress. Tried the chilaquiles and the chorizo burrito with potatoes. Will return to try the lunch menu. The shakes and onion rings looks tasty.

I'm giving 3 stars only because I ordered a turkey n bacon with avocado sandwich and a coffee. And it was $17.53 THE MENU STATED $12.95 I DON'T THINK A CUP OF COFFEE IS $5. PLUS A GLASS OF WATER...the service was great.. but the prices are to high..

Stopped in for lunch and check this place out. Arrived at noon an d found lots of seating. I was guickly waited on. I picked the party melt with a side of fruit. Within five minutes I was served. The meal was ok and was about what I expected. No complaints. I might drop in, if I'm in the area.

The atmosphere is good. Food taste is ok. The hash browns could use a lil flavor. Or salt at least. Vanilla shake is delicious. Service not so much, it’s ok but it could be better. It was my first time here and I really didn’t feel welcome. Waitress wasn’t explaining things to me when I told her I didn’t understand a menu item. She seemed irritated with me. And my check never came I kept waiting and waiting until someone else over heard me speaking about it and told me that I needed to walk to the register. I saw other people getting their checks at their table so I assumed the same for me. Overall 5/10 I won’t return since I felt the vibe that I wasn’t welcome.

This is a nice little 50's diner complete with steel cast cars of the era lining the top the the kitchen area and anywhere imaginable they could respectfully place a toy car, truck, or tractor..... The food, although, was rather bland. As a friend of mine stated while eating lunch with me here, "tastes like the same recipe from the 50's too" due to the fact that the food on both our plates was rather bland in taste. I deff topped my lunch with PLENTY of salt and pepper to flavor it up a bit. Outside of the food, the service was very good. Server of the day was very pleasant and the restaurant itself was very clean in appearance.

Decent, clean little diner with 50's -60's decor and music. Friendly waitress and decent food.

I had the chicken fried steak with bisquits and gravy. I recommend this dish. I'd say this place is a good option for a quick bite. The price point was good, too.

Been wanting to come here for the longest and finally came with my husband and kids. The food is mid and the service was beyond horrible. The servers where attending all the regular folks first and left us until the end. Even regulars that came in after us where helped and serve way faster!. We also felt like we didnt get the same treatment as they did. Only employee that did help us out with respect was the older man (bus boy) . Other than that we will never be back

Like many other Long Beach residents, we were looking forward to the reopening of the restaurant. We decided to stop in for lunch and, knowing they were starting fresh with an all new kitchen, we had high expectations. Sadly, service was slow due to training issues and the food was sub-par. I mean, how can you screw up a hamburger? Something a 50's diner should do quite well. I thought to myself, they have a brand new kitchen, brand new booths, everything new; why would they continue to use low grade ingredients? The whole experience made me wish a different restaurant would have opened in it's place. I'm afraid we will NOT be back and will NOT recommend George's 50's Diner to anyone.

Stopped by this old fashioned 50's diner thinking the food would be living up to America's diner history of thick shakes, everything homemade from scratch and generous portions... Regretfully, this diner is nowhere close. Milkshakes we're small and very thin, portion size small and not homemade.

They were busy, but not crazy for a Sunday morning. Staff did not acknowledge customers as they entered. Eventhough one really terrible, I'm guessing daughter of owner was just standing at the register. I ordered a very basic egg a fs bacon breakfast and waited 20 minutes for it. It was not good. Super cheap cuts of bacon and the eggs were over cooked. It took several minutes to get the waitresses attention to get the bill. Then I stood and waited at the register for someone to come. I nearly dined and strolled. Believe me. I wouldn't have had to run.

Lipstick on my cup- I wasn’t wearing any 15 mins to wave down a waitress to take our order 40 mins for our sodas only after we had to once again wave the waitress and ask about it - after repeating what sodas we didn’t get, she still brought the wrong kind After an hour asked about our order, waitress said there was another big order before us! It’ll take another 45 mins! For Denny’s style diner food no thanks! Wasted an hour of our time here! It’s like We ordered in the 50’s and still waiting for our food in 2021! Def do not recommend unless you have 2 hours to waste!

Owners are rude and nasty. Tried to give this place a chance the diner is dirty. The parking lot is so raggedy and The food is so bland I cannot believe this place is still in business
