We was traveling and felt like a spot of dinner this was a excellent find. Plenty of parking and a nice little village. We was seated straight away for two on a Thursday dinnertime. Quick to sort you drinks and bring you your menus. Polite staff and our food arrived in short order as well. Very surprised how good it all looked and was not disappointed when eating it. Drinks options was good and even brought me a taster of the ipa. Staff was friendly the pub was well set out clean and fresh and the food was excellent. Definitely worth a vist.
Wonderful meal and fabulous staff. All of our meals were delicious and beautifully presented. I had the salmon starter and sea bream main. Good wine list and cocktails selection. Staff were really attentive and the pub is in a lovely setting.
I visited yesterday with a friend and we both enjoyed the experience. Indeed, it was the best fish & chips I had eaten for a very long time. The staff are so friendly and the food is absolutely delicious (and so well presented). Top marks!
Popped in for a pot of tea on a Saturday lunchtime part way through a 10 mile walk. Excellent service from the staff. Menu looked really good, interesting dishes, as did the food that passed me. Clearly a popular place to eat. There was plenty of room in the bar area. Music was quiet and unobtrusive. Definitely would return and maybe for food in the future. There is a large car park to the side of the pub with views of the village church.
Been here twice in the last couple of months and both times it was brilliant. Very well looked after by attentive staff. Delicious food and good choice of wines, cocktails and draft all very reasonably priced. Keep doing what you’re doing and look after your kitchen and front of house staff. They’re a credit to you
Absolutely beautiful old country pub with a new extension that fits the old building perfectly and has wonderful views. The food itself was brilliant, everything beautifully cooked and presented. Lots of outdoor seating, spacious bar and a good size carpark. Well impressed and definitely recommend 💯
Beautiful setting, beautiful venue, delicious food, such a great find. Can't say enough good things. Had a lovely date night and will for sure bring back family and friends :) my new favourite place!
We came here for a very special family occasion (Golden wedding anniversary) and really glad to report it was quite simply excellent. The food was absolutely delicious and cooked perfectly. The welcome when we arrived was really lovely and all the staff were an absolute delight. It's set in a beautiful chocolate box village with lovely views especially towards the church. I can't recommend the cross house enough and can't wait to visit again
Absolutely outstanding food! Simply phenomenal! We are only here for the weekend, just arrived tonight and had dinner here. It was so good we are coming back tomorrow for dinner again:) I had the mussles starter and burger main (best burger ever). My partner had the slow cooked beef, he let me taste it, was so soft and tasty! Other than the food, service was excellent and everyone was very friendly and welcoming!
What a beautiful pub , garden is lovely. Nice friendly welcome , and a nice pint . Only stopped briefly, would have loved to stay and try some food . I'll definitely be back .
This place is consistently fantastic. We’d booked through OpenTable on Christmas Eve, unfortunately OpenTable had allowed us to book a time they weren’t actually serving, this was a bit disappointing but the staff handled it really well, we were offered the first table when they opened for dinner, a great table and bit of a discount - honestly hats off to the staff they really turned things around. The service is always great, really friendly and happy smiley staff. Fantastic drinks with good variety, but the food is absolutely INCREDIBLE! I have been here over 10 times and I have never had a bad meal at all. This place deserves the full 5* rating!
Simply fabulous!! The food, service and value were outstanding. We cannot wait to go back.
Beautiful little spot in Doynton. Lovely views out to the fields, and excellent food. Great service from the staff.
Great food, and atmosphere for a chill but elegant dinner time. 10/10 recommend if you are in Cotswold and want to have some great food
Had a wonderful meal at the cross House. Food was amazing, service was top notch, the staff were so considerate and attentive in the right way. Couldn't have been a better evening. We will be back for sure.
Passing by while travelling to Wales and stumbled across the village of Doynton. With the Cross House at the heart of it with what seems a somewhat ££££ refurb not too long ago with no detail spared, we were happy to find this spot! Camembert to begin which was devine, bearing in mind a few pints deep at this point, wolfed it down without breathing it feels! With the Flat Iron steak and Burger to follow. The Burger was up there with the better pub burgers I've had so can't loose there. The steak was also very tasty and cooked as requested, Medium - Rare. However did get a lil mouth workout chewing the thing, no complaints as was more the cut chosen over how it was cooked. All in all, a fantastic find and would recommend to anyone passing by or near the area.
Such a great find on the way to Bristol, highly recommend this pub. The food is delicious and super well presented, the best steak I ever had too. Service is excellent
We had popped in on the off chance of a table after a dog walk in the area, they were fully booked but the landlord found us a space and managed to squeeze us in (more than socially distanced from everyone else) This place has obviously undergone a major refurbishment. All the staff were very friendly and on the ball with drinks orders and food orders etc. Me and my partner shared the breads and olives to start and the focaccia bread was super fresh and really good. then we booth had roast lamb and it was beautiful one of the best roasts we have had in a long time. We will back in the near future for sure. Keep up the good work guys.
Had such a locely meal here. Couldn't fault anything!
Went here for lunch and it was delicious. Food was really nice, I had the beef burger and couldn't fault it. My partner has the hanger steak and it was cooked perfectly and very tasty. The desserts were very well presented, I had the chocolate and coffee delice with orange sorbet and although very rich it too was amazing. Would highly recommend coming here, they have a real nice outdoor sitting area.
Lovely food! Nice atmosphere, great service. Just what you want from a local pub.
Came for a friends baby shower, lovely atmosphere and venue. Had a lovely day, staff were so helpful, the chardonnay is to die for and the steak was insane!
Amazing food, great atmosphere - brilliant ales. Book early to get a table, you won't regret it!
A great pub/restaurant with a lovely feel, nice service and excellent food. Somewhere to highly recommend and visit regularly
Fantastic food Really good service and fairly priced beers.
Hidden gem! Lovely surroundings, great food. Only complaint was service charge being added even for 2 people. (Photo if leg of duck confit with peppercorn sauce, cavelo Nero and dauphinouse potatoes 😋)
I don't think pubs get any better than this?! We have been many times now over the years, and even hired the whole restaurant for the night before our wedding. The food is always exquisite, regardless of which option you pick, the staff are always super friendly, great atmosphere, and the pub itself is so lovely, with a gorgeous restaurant and outside space. We will come back whenever we can!
Really yummy food. We had a sirloin and a flat iron steak. With focaccia to share as a starter. Some reviews have mentioned small portions sizes but that certainly wasn’t the case with us. They were just right. Service was timely and friendly. The atmosphere and view out the back were great. About the only negative was that one of the steaks was rare rather than medium rare as asked for, but that wasn’t a problem for us.
My husband and I had an early 6pm dinner at the Cross house tonight (Friday) and it was so so lovely. First when we arrived and came in from the quiet dark cold outside we were welcomed with a lovely busy happy atmosphere in the bar. We then come into the restaurant which was very nice not as load as the bar which we really liked so we could talk. And the tables were nicely spaced so you didn’t feel like everyone was listen to your conversation. Our first waitresses who was a lovely girl straight away made me feel very comfortable with the fact I am gluten free. Some restaurants can make you feel like your such an inconvenience but she was lovely and shared how she is gluten free too. It really made the world of difference for me. There was a lot of choice on the menu and it said which options were gluten free available. We started with the bread olive and oil (gluten free bread) and it was delicious! My husband had the pie (not gluten free) and he said it was very nice! Although pastry a little thick in the corners of the pie. I had the calves liver which they did with sautéed potatoes instead of bubble and squeak (due to the gluten). And for pudding there was a big choice and again things that I could have too which is rare in other restaurants. My husband had afforgato and had the Black Forest pavlova which was so delicious!!! We came away feeling very well looked after, the staff were all so lovely and friendly, lovely atmosphere and food! And again the best restaurant I have been to so far as a gluten free. Hence the glowing reviews and mentioning gluten way too many times 😂 10 out of 10 all round! Might be my new favorite place!
Essential to book. Deservibly popular. Great for a memorable meal out.
Beautifully modernised village pub. Stunning oak framed dining area. Superb food - great veggie options. Clearly an imaginative chef but not over fancy. Rates in top two of places to eat in Bristol area. Well worth the trip for lunch and a pretty walk.
Lovely pub, the staff were great. The food was lovely, but it could have been a little hotter. Would definitely recommend though. We will definitely be going back.
Dropped in for a cheeky pint on a wet Sunday cycle ride. Very friendly staff, roaring wood stove to dry us out and a decent choice of beers. Overall, very nice. We didn't eat but food looked nice and judging by how busy it was on a Sunday lunchtime, I'd say it was as good as it looked.
Fantastic food, went for Sunday lunch with my daughter. Best food I have ever tasted, well presented, lovely staff, could not do enough for us, did not need to ask for more water, they kept topping it up. Can’t wait to go again, I would recommend to everyone.
Lovely lovely place! We love going there (when we are not too late to book) and enjoy a meal. Very pleasant restaurant area and very friendly staff. The food is exceptional, it’s very simple and homely, but presented well and always very good quality and tasty. The only thing I would say is that they’re always fully booked for Sunday lunch, so need to book way in advance. Generally very good.
Lovely restaurant/pub in a pretty village, where can bring you dog and enjoy some vegetarian and vegan options.
The food is amazing as is the service. Only downside is there are dogs, most of which are well behaved.
First time visiting and had Burger and chips. Food was really good! Decent portion sizes and burger was really tasty. Enough for me to want to write a review. We went on a friday and it was really busy but the service was still good. Staff are nice and friendly.
Really nice bar sandwiches Nice, friendly staff Atmosphere nice for a Monday lunchtime!
Four of us had really good meals here. All had roast dinner. Plenty of well cooked meat & veg'. Attentive staff. Nice decor. Clean & smart place. 4 stars for atmosphere as customer had a yappy dog which was a little bit annoying.
Delicious Sunday roast. Party of 5 adults and a 1 year old. The staff couldn't have been more welcoming and accommodating. Fantastic food and service. Definitely be returning.
Needed to find somewhere east of Bristol to meet and took a chance on this from Google maps. What a little gem of a place. Beautifully presented, staff excellent and delicious food. Will definitely be coming back.
Beautiful setting.. we came last night for dinner and all the staff was brilliant.. I have a dairy and gluten intolerance and the waitress was so very helpful ans the chef and kitchen staff accommodated my every need. Beautiful mussels, beautiful pork chops and the the lamb was really tender.. a big well done to you all
Sunday lunch with the family,,,from a great welcome to excellent food couldn’t fault anything and dog friendly so the Mutt came with us…
Delicious food. Friendly staff. Lovely well kept pub and good selection of beers. The only thing we didn't like was the service charge added on the bill at the end, which we know is optional, but is awkward in a cosy environment to ask to be taken off. It means that when you are a family eating with drinks, (and we didn't have starters and some of us shared or desserts), that 10% on top can quickly become a very expensive nearly £30 addition!
Came for a family meal. Great food, service & atmosphere. Would defo come again!
I went to The Cross House for lunch with 3 friends . The meal was fabulous . I had Mussels for starter and the seabream for main course . It was cooked to perfection. The staff were very kind and helpful.
We had a lovely meal last Friday at the pub. The pub has a lovely warm and welcoming atmosphere, and was really bustling on Friday. The waiting staff were friendly too, and led us to our table in the barn. We had beef and pork - both were really delicious. The only downside was that it took quite a while for the food to arrive - nearly an hour. I think there must have been a backlog at the kitchen end of things. Overall it is a great pub and I'd like to return.
Lovely food and atmosphere, but staff did let the evening down a bit. It was a late meal for 6 of us, had to ask staff to come and take drinks order, then ask them again to take food order. Surprised to see 10% added automatically for service at the end! 🙄
Went here for a family meal, was absolutely gutted with the service and food. One steak was supposed to be well done (for a pregnant woman) sent it back 3 times and still wasn’t well done when it was brang back to the table. One steak was burnt on the top even though it was ordered medium rare. Fish and chips were terrible as fish batter was tough and chunky chips were hard. Have been visiting Doynton Cross House for a while but after this meal i won’t be back.
