On our vacation to the cotswolds, this is exactly what I'd had in mind when it came to pubs. It was truly glorious, the quintessential archetypal great British boozer. If anyone from another planet wants to experience pub culture then do it here. Genuinely heartwarming and life reaffirming to see a pub at the centre of the community. Sadly as we travelled we had seen others that had bitten the dust. 3 cheers to this excellent establishment.

This has got to be one of the best Sunday roasts I have ever tasted. Worth every penny! Generous portions, lots of veg, cauliflower cheese as a tasty extra included in the price. The gravy is delicious, the food was piping hot, Yorkshire puds to die for. I ate with my family and we tried the beef, lamb and chicken. All were cooked to perfection, no tough bits. Could not fault it. 100% going to return soon. Service and atmosphere also couldn’t fault.

A lovely pub that is light and airy with an excellent selection of beers, ales and wines. An excellent Sunday lunch beautifully served with plenty of vegetables accompanying. We had the beef and lamb with the only let down that they had run out of mint sauce which is a schoolboy error for such a well organised establishment. Great coffee and a dedicated child area and extensive gardens with great seating.

Amazing pub with the scrummiest Sunday roasts which I have ever had! Lovely staff and the atmosphere was lovely too. One of the best parts of my visit to that lush part of the UK! Would advise others to go and have the roast! The option to have an extra meat on your roast is the best as all of it was delicious! I had beef and chicken, my husband had pork and lamb.

It was lovely to pop in without reservation for lubch and have a warm welcome. I am particularly happy with the hosts and the chef accommodating my dietary requirements. I personally had a duck and asked to replace the side. It was very testy and nicely cooked meals. Thanks

We walked from Wallbridge along the canal towpath to The Ship Inn for Sunday lunch. We hadn't booked but there was plenty of seating in the marquee. We chose the roast chicken, pork and lamb, which were served with Yorkshire pudding, roast potatoes & carrots, cauliflower cheese and a selection of vegetables. Special mention goes to the tender pork loin which came with ample strips of crackling, the lamb which was melt in the mouth tender and of course the jug of tasty gravy! These were the best roast dinners that we've had for a long time. We ordered and paid at the bar, the bill for 3 roasts and 3 drinks came to £64.75. The staff were friendly and cheerful. The only downside was having to walk 2.5 miles back to Stroud....in the pouring rain.

6 of us came here for a roast dinner today. One of the best roasts we’ve ever had. The food was delicious! Can’t wait to come back. The desserts were yummy too.

Conclusion: The steak and goat cheese are very good, you definitely have to try them and also the local beer!

Been there twice this week since it reopened. Worlds apart from the last management. Great choice of beer, friendly staff and incredible food. Only downside was that we were so full from the roast dinner we couldn’t fit a pudding in. 👍

Delicious food, great service and clean and welcoming atmosphere. Highly recommend, this is the vegan burger and the Mushroom Wellington meals that myself and partner had, absolutely delicious:

Visited on Saturday, and it was a great little pub, with some awesome beers on tap, great music going on, and a really nice beer garden with a food truck. Had a great time. We'll be back.

Excellent Sunday roast with the best cauliflower cheese I've had in a while.

Every time I would come visit Stroud I liked The Ship . It changed ownership and I went once and was disappointed. I can say, happily now, that the new management has done it right. It is difficult to get a reservation for a Sunday dinner so book early. The food is excellent and the prices are reasonable! So glad to have The Ship back!

Top shelf. Away for the weekend and thought we’d check out The Ship. Quality roast - super delicious and had all the trimmings. The bar had a good, bustling vibe for a few drinks too. Would come back!!

We've been here twice for a Sunday roast and as far as the art of the roast goes, they've got everything right. Well prepared, good quality food, decent helpings of everything - you're full, and there's not much left over, nice Yorkshires and extra gravy you don't have to ask for. We had a vegetarian and a vegan with us and they were both catered for, but weren't big fans of the nut roast. However, they really liked the rest of it and will try another veggie option next time (yes, they have more than one veggie option with a roast!) Add a good selection of ale, beer and wine and quick service and you've got a great Sunday lunch - not everywhere can get this right but they have, and the puddings are lovely too. Unsurprisingly, you need to book in advance but it's worth it!

This is a fantastic place to eat. The food is wonderful. £17.95 for a large roast dinner..add a second meat for £3. Deserts £7.50. The panacotta was delightful. Vegetarian and vegan dishes also available. Staff all extremely pleasant and accommodating. Lovely ambient atmosphere. Would highly recommend. First discovered Birch when they delivered roast dinners during lockdown. Was good to actually eat in their current premises .

Really good Sunday roast! Great portions, great flavours and really special to get a vegan cauliflower cheese with the vegan option as this often gets left out. Nice atmosphere, definitely book as it was busy. Would come again.

Amazing food. Lovely atmosphere. Friendly accommodating staff. There was a great choice of gluten free options. Ordering the food was easy and it was such a treat to eat really nice gluten free bread, rather than the usual rubbish many restaurants serve! An absolute wonderful experience all round. I will definitely be coming again. Thank you :)

We had a roast dinner and it was excellent. I'm an ex chef and I'm usually dubious about Sunday roasts as I can generally cook them better at home. However this was excellent, great value tasted surperb and the staff at the pub were welcoming and attentive. I would have no reservation about recommending this pub for an enjoyable, relaxed Sunday lunch. Highly recommend.

Had a lovey birthday roast lunch today. The food was fantastic and the staff very welcoming and friendly. Couldn't do enough for the 12 of us in our party. Found my new favorite cider too...... Raspberry Ripple.... love it.

I'd wanted to eat at The Ship for a long time, and finally made it happen. Booked it in a rush and we didn't know it was Thursday tapas night. The friend I was with was initially disappointed as he had previous bad tapas experiences, but we could not fault the food in any way. Myself a chef and my friend a critical foodie, we were both delightfully impressed. Portion size spot on, flavours on the mark and general food quality was all excellent. Relaxed atmosphere, very pleasant staff. Super value for money. I'll be back. Highly recommend.

Loverly roast lamb dinner, meat cooked very well, just fell apart. A good portion as well, enough room left if you wanted a pudding. We didn't have one as going home for Birthday cake 😀

I had lunch here and the burger was fantastic would recommend. Service was amazing and it wasn’t too long for the food to arrive. I would recommend this place to others who are looking for a quick meal.

Outstanding family Sunday lunch at the Ship Inn today. Superb food, service and atmosphere. Really thoughtful and considered vegetarian and vegan options which were so good, even the carnivores were tempted although the slow roast lamb shoulder was utterly mouth watering too. Can't wait to come back.

Cracking atmosphere and the staff were extremely helpful despite it being so busy. I can thoroughly recommend the trout stuffed with walnuts and spinach- absolutely delicious. It's worth mentioning that the toilets were spotlessly clean which is another bonus point. Looking forward to my next visit already

We’ve been on the lookout for the best roast in the area and we’ve found it! Not only was the food truly delicious and completely catered to my very restricted dietary needs but the customer care was also great. I was made to feel completely at ease with the owner going above and beyond making sure I could eat a delicious roast dinner!

We tried our luck without booking. Fully booked but no problem, took a table outside. Nice options on the menu and food was excellent. Catered fully for Coeliac/gluten free including Yorshire puds and stuffing! Service was efficient, very polite and friendly. Would gladly go again!

Absolutely lovely, cosy pub that's very dog friendly. We had Sunday lunch and it's not often that you find a great vegetarian Sunday lunch. It was absolutely delicious and fantastic value for money.

Our first visit, went in for Sunday lunch and it was lovely. Plenty of food, I went for the roast beef and paid an extra £3 to have some chicken too, and it seemed like it was half a chicken, loads of it. All delicious and well presented, friendly service and good selection of beers. For two of us, both having roasts and a pudding, and 3 pints came to £69, which I thought was good value. Would recommend and revisit. Many thanks.

The Ship Inn was recommended by my Daughter & Husband, first visit it was an Italian theme night, set menu but the food was delicious 😋. Would definitely recommend a visit.

Went on a Sunday, for lunch. Group of 7 people. They only serve a roast dinner on Sunday. Meal was good. Lamb was very tasty. Prices are standard (for today). Great atmosphere, and good staff. If in the area, would go again.

My husband and i eat out alot and have tried many sunday roasts, and the Ship at Brimscombe is by far the best around! the food is absolutely delicious, and.there is plenty of it, the staff are friendly and the atmosphere is relaxed. It can get busy, especially on Sunday, so booking is recommended, you won't regret it!

Honestly one of the best pub roasts we’ve had in such a long time, everything was spot on. From fresh greens to stuffing and cauliflower cheese included with every roast and the meat beautifully cooked, such generous portions too. Bar staff were cute as well and made a delicious Bloody Mary. Will keep coming back xxx

Enjoyed the late sunshine inbetween a few light showers in the back garden with the most amazing sweet potato fries served with sour cream and chives - absolutely the best! Had to move under the one gazebo but we then stayed there for another hour. Friendly staff and great way to catch up with friends for a while.

Very generous portions, struggled to finish mains after starters. Friendly staff. Dog friendly too. Starters around £8-£10, mains £20-£26. Dessert panacota was a bit on the firmer side than we prefer. Quite popular.

Lovely sunday roast dinner, didn't have to wait long for the main at all, tasty, good portion size. Had to wait nearly 40 mins for our puddings which seemed strange but over all very nice meal and would recommend.

T

Small portions, over priced and not the best tasty food I expected.

Lovely spot with superb outdoor seating and stunning views , a perfect place for drinks. The staff were welcoming and friendly, and the atmosphere was relaxed. Tried the pop-up Mexican food during our visit and it was absolutely delicious. It’s a bit of a walk from Stroud centre, but very easy to reach by cab and well worth the trip.

UPDATE 16/12/2022: Went for lunch and was fairly disappointed based on previous visits. Lunch menu didn't offer many hot options apart from pretty much 2 choices of burger (1 meat/1 vegan) and fish & chips. The charcuterie at £10 was pricey for what it was. Shame. We were expecting much much more! UPDATE: Went with my husband for lunch today 29/04/2022 and the service and food were excellent👍I enjoyed salmon steak with samphire & chorizo risotto and my husband a brisket beef and bacon burger. Since The Ship Inn has undergone a revamp with new owners, it is so much nicer than before! The lunch menu offered many options. I had chicken breast with homemade bubble and squeak and roasted shallots - the chicken was alittle dry but otherwise it was very nice. The barmaid cum waitress was friendly and helpful.

Family meal to celebrate Easter. We were shown to table and told she would bring us the menus. Waited at least 10 minutes, no menus so husband went and got them. Next thing waitress came to take order, explained that we had only just got menus, we had to grab her back to order some drinks! Starters came, food was delicious and well presented. Then nothing for at least 45 minutes, by this time it was 2.45! When we queried what had gone wrong we got no apologies just that there was a back up in the kitchen yet there was no one else eating in the restaurant and only a couple of people at the bar. When the food arrived, again delicious and well presented. Sadly, no time for pudding which we were looking forward to. When we paid again no apology or goodbye. We won't be returning which is such ashame as the menu and food was great.

Food was great, I have a lot of love for the chef and his team. Disappointing service. I won't slate a teenager on what must have been her first shift, but she should have proper training. I have 10+ years hospitality experience, if you're looking for someone to run the place, hit me up

R

Absolutely awful. The starter olives had stones in them, it states a selection of breads (we verified this with our server) but only one kind of STALE white bread came out. The service was so poor that the main course (pie) was freezing cold by the time they brought out the side (vegetables), they even served another table in-between!?! before bringing out the side (which was one small bowl of vegetables between us???!). Not enough gravy and no one around to ask. Never checked our table to see if we needed anything or if everything was ok. Vastly overpriced. Will not be going back anytime soon.

I’v been to this establishment many times .Every time I come to this Pub there is an issue why they do not serve food And today at 1920 they are fully booked and not taking any more orders because they are jam packed as you can see by the photos uploaded Again very disappointed with this visit , maybe next time they could rectify this as Their food does look quite nice if only I ever get the chance to try some
