Excellent Italian dinner at Solare Ristorante in Liberty Station! The food was fantastic, we had the spiny lobster fettuccine all’Aragosta and risotto tartufo e capesante (scallop risotto with black truffle) and it blew us away. The cocktails were also very yummy; we had the Italian lemon drop and Manhattan alla monarca. Great service, friendly and attentive. Dog friendly outdoor patio. Recommend!
We've eaten here several times since moving here and it's a great restaurant. Nice atmosphere and great menu. It's fun to come early and sit at the bar before dinner.
WOW! My wife and I are long-time Italian foodies, so we've dined at most Italian restaurants in SD. No contest, Solare is the ABSOLUTE BEST Italian restaurant we've ever had the pleasure to enjoy. From the moment you walk in, it's feels like a mini-vacation in Italia: a warm family atmosphere; vibrant, professional service; unique, mouthwatering menu choices; superlative wine list; and passionate, deeply devoted management. Go visit Solare for LA DOLCE VITA!
I had a wonderful experience at this Italian restaurant. From the moment I walked in, I was impressed by the elegant Italian atmosphere; perfect for a special occasion or a nice evening out. The wine list was extensive with plenty of excellent options to choose from. As someone who enjoys a good glass of wine with dinner, I really appreciated the variety. The highlight of the meal was the Risotto Tartufo e Capesant, which was absolutely delicious. Rich, flavorful, and beautifully prepared—it’s the kind of dish you remember and want to come back for. The staff were also a big part of what made the experience so enjoyable. Everyone was friendly, welcoming, and attentive, which made us feel comfortable and well taken care of. This is definitely a place I’ll be returning to for good Italian food, especially when celebrating a special occasion. Highly recommended.
The pear and gargonzola pizza was delicious! The crust was perfectly cooked. There is a large wine list and specialty cocktails. Happy hour is everyday. The restaurant is a short walk away from the parking lots.
Thank you so much Solare Ristorante. My dad, sister, and I sincerely received a wonderful experience here. Our soul and stomach were filled with warmth and joy. We had gotten the following dishes for us three to share *Fettuccine all’Aragosta *Frittura di Pesce all’Italiana *Ravioli di Ricotta e Spinaci *Risotto Tartufo e Capesante *Pear & Gorgonzola - we saved a few slices for Mom and brother All the pastas are handmade well. I would describe it as good food from another home that I never knew I have had. The ingredients are fresh and indeed chosen for their quality. The staff here were very kind and attentive to our needs: quick to provide us with high quality service. Prior to coming here, we had made a reservation for 2:46 pm on OpenTable thanks to the Chase Sapphire card benefits. We were immediately welcomed and recognized. Everything from the seating to the ways in which the utensils are laid out are done with great care. The sun streams in at such a nice angle where we were seated too. We weren’t able to provide tip just with our current budgeting, and I take all the blame! Yet, I sincerely hope that this review can hold me accountable to return again to show proper gratitude for all the people here. Thank you all for your service and this space that you create for people. A huge shout out to Alice for being A Wonderful server for us - we were so honored. Wonderful for all occasions, especially special occasions. God bless you all!
We celebrated our anniversary at Solare Ristorante Lounge with our family, and the experience was excellent from start to finish. The food tasted really fresh across the board, with fresh vegetables and clean flavors that did not try to confuse you by overmixing ingredients. We started with the calamari, which was meaty and lightly breaded. The dipping sauce was not a traditional marinara and leaned a bit sweeter, but it paired nicely. We also ordered the bread appetizer, which was pillowy, warm, and absolutely delicious. For entrées, I had the pappardelle with bolognese, and it was some of the best bolognese I have ever had. It was rich, flavorful, and perfectly cooked. My wife ordered the ravioli and really enjoyed it as well. The kids menu had solid options too. My son said it was his favorite spaghetti and meatballs he has ever had at a restaurant, and my daughter happily finished her buttered penne. They thoughtfully acknowledged our anniversary with a complimentary dessert, a light and tasty guava panna cotta, which was a great touch. There is plenty of parking, and our server was outstanding and very accommodating. The only downside was that the food took quite a while to come out, which can be challenging with young kids. That said, the quality of the food and the overall experience more than made up for it. We will definitely be back.
First time here and everyone was so friendly and accommodating. One of the assistants to our server recommended his favorite risotto with scallops dish and it was perfect! My husband chose the risotto with ox tail and he said it was one of the best he's had. Creme brulee was pistachio. Different. Not bad but not the silky texture I'm use to. Probably would skip next time.
I had the Risotto Tartufo e Capesante, and wow—it was absolutely incredible. Hands down the best meal I’ve had in San Diego. My husband and I went for lunch and were seated right away with no wait. The hostess and our server were both amazing—so welcoming and genuinely friendly, which made the whole experience even better. The vibe of the restaurant is relaxed yet elevated, and we loved every minute of it. Highly recommend and can’t wait to come back!
My girlfriend and I booked the “chef’s table” experience which seats you in your own personal spot looking at the kitchen as they make the food with a preset six course menu. Everything about the experience was incredible! Each course was delicious, the service was top notch and it was so nice to meet the head chef, Denise. The owner, Randy and his son, Tommy, came over and said hello which was very nice as well. We had such a great experience last night and would recommended this restaurant to anyone! We will definitely be back.
My partner and I visited this restaurant a few weekends ago and had an amazing time. The fettuccini and pistachio crème brûlée were both incredible. The presentation was beautiful, and the flavors were out of this world. Our waitress was incredibly polite and friendly, and we had a wonderful conversation with our lovely waitress & the Restaurant owner himself! We are excited to come back to try the wine experience!
Everytime we come it’s a perfect experience. From beautiful setting, amazing staff and the FOOD is delicious and memorable. My favorite is Risotto scallops and the moscato. But our family members get a variety of things and have enjoyed tasting them. Even the children menu pizza is amazing. Can’t boast enough about this place. If passing through or live in the area, this is a must stop place to eat!!
Great experience. From the ambiance to the service to the food, everything was spectacular. We dined indoors but the outdoor seating area is beautifully decorated with string lights, creating a cozy and welcoming vibes The lobster pasta, was rich, creamy, and the lobster was tender. It’s a must-try if you’re a seafood lover! For dessert, the chocolate mousse was the perfect ending to an amazing meal.
Impeccable and vegetarian friendly. I feel lucky to have stumbled onto this place. Everything was perfect down to the rosemary infused bread. Delicious. They also have a very wide selection of wine by the glass and bottle. In fact their interior walls and wine room are lined with boutique bottles.
We had a special date night while staying in San Diego and were told this is the best Italian in the area. I will say the liberty area was very cool and had a unique vibe. The restaurant itself was very quaint and cozy. What held this back from being a 5 star experience was that the food was not particularly memorable. It was good, tasty even, but this wasn’t something I would say was craveable. I had the ossobuco and my wife had the sea bass. We each had a drink and for dessert we polished off a tiramisu. Again, it was a very decent meal, but compared to some of the places we stumbled on while we were there, this particular venue just didn’t justify the accolades we had heard. Now, I will say that the pizza looked amazing and they make all of their gluten free bread in house. My wife, who has celiac, very much appreciated this and I can attest that the bread was some of the best we have ever had. I imagine the pizza would also be absolutely exquisite, so maybe that is where a 5 star experience lies. We will try it again in the future and if you need a safe Italian restaurant in a very cool area, this is a great location.
Solare is a great looking restaurant on the inside and it had an extensive menu. We were greeted nicely and had a great server, friendly and helpful. Great wine advice. The bass was excellent, fresh and most, nice sauce. The fetticcini...ok...I think it might have been... something... excellent, fresh pasta, but something off with the shrimp... very good caesar's salad. We will give it another go!
I recently visited this Italian restaurant located in Liberty Station, and I was pleasantly surprised by the overall experience. The atmosphere felt cozy yet stylish, and it was a great spot to enjoy a relaxed dinner. One of the highlights here is definitely the wine selection. They offer a wide range of options, and it felt like the kind of place where you could spend extra time pairing your meal with the perfect glass. For food, I ordered the scallops risotto, which turned out to be really delicious. The scallops were large, fresh, and cooked just right, which added so much flavor and texture to the creamy risotto. I am usually not a fan of truffle, and the dish did include a touch of it, but aside from that detail, I truly enjoyed the flavors and would recommend it. I also tried the squash soup, which was smooth, flavorful, and comforting without being too heavy. For dessert, I went with a peach option, and it was a refreshing way to finish the meal. Sweet but light, it didn’t overwhelm after a rich dinner. Overall, this restaurant is a great choice in Liberty Station, especially if you appreciate good wine and Italian dishes.
I went here expecting more I guess after reading all the reviews. I was seated fairly promptly after having to track down the maître d'. The rest of the party located me. It seemed like they were understaffed for a Friday afternoon. Our entrees arrived and the portion size was small, 8 thin raviolis. The taste was good but they were not that hot due to the big plate and the thin nature of them. By the time you got to the last few, they were lukewarm. And we had to ask for bread…that cost extra. It was a small, 4 piece loaf with a lot of rosemary. We ordered desert and when my crème brûlée came, it was burnt and the filling was more of a pudding than a custard. Also it was cold. I sent it back and got the cheesecake. It tasted good but it was dry. We waited quite awhile between visits from our server but received what we asked for, and ordered, within a timely fashion. Lunch was 50.00/person without wine. It was steep considering the food quality and quantity. Felt like we were “shrinkflated”. Happy Hunting!
