Bewertungen von Sushi of Gari Broadway
Gari 46 has the best salmon that I’ve ever tasted. The fish here is so incredibly fresh that it WOWed our entire party. This beat out the fish we had in HAWAII! We were also impressed by their wine selection (particularly their Kenzo estate wines). Would highly recommend visiting this place if you’re in the area
The OG of sushi-with-topping. Although the original is the UES location, this seems to be the flagship now. They still have over 100 types so unless you're here every other week there's no chance you'll ever try them all. Unlike most places that have aped this style, the rice is actually firm and well-prepared.
The chefs Omakase selection was hands down the best sushi I’ve ever had. Quaint restaurant and in an adorable neighborhood. So glad we booked it. Definitely plan to come again next year.
Just wow. This place has the top tier service, very diligent and polite waiters, and a phenomenal quality in sashimi. I was blown away by the omakase, these chefs know what they're doing and show every bit of their elegance and skill through what they present you. And the best part is they have otoro! Absolutely worth every penny. I'm proud to have had the privilege to visit this restaurant.
As usual one of the best sushi experiences in NYC by far. Their selection of fish is top notch and the service is impeccable. Thank you for a lovely evening sushi of Gari!
Some of the best sushi dishes I have ever had. Whether it's the fried oyster or the chef's makis (to say nothing of their selection of sakes) you will not be disappointed. Reservations are a must for groups of 2 or more but sitting at the sushi bar is usually pretty easy for a single person. PS they always great you warmly (which surprised me at first!) In a world of mediocre sushi restaurants this Sushi By Gary on 46th truly stands out.
Amazing. Very inventive and unique experience. Gari’s approach was to make his own sauces for sushi to avoid people using soy sauce and cancelling out the taste of incredible sushi. I would absolutely return and try other locations as well. Would definitely recommend the Gari’s Special or the Omakase and mostly stick to sushi or sashimi here vs rolls.
I’ve been dining at sushi of gari for almost 17 years now. Started dining at the upper east side location and then started going to the one on 46 street when it opened. I pick my pieces after having the omakase for many years bc I know what pieces I like. It’s always amazing!!! I can honestly say it’s the best sushi I’ve had in the world! I’ve taken friends from all over the world, to this restaurant and they have said the same.
I thought there must have been something wrong if the best sushi I had to date in the East Coast was in Boston (as amazing as Oishii Sushi was....). Sushi of Gari changed that ranking and reminded me why NYC is still the food capital of the this country - every piece of delectable sushi really gave melt-in-your mouth a new meaning. Normally I would order the sashimi platter, but the reviews prompted me to order sushi - and it did not disappoint. The flavors were unique and complex - no morsel requiring soy sauce, yet no flavor hiding the delicate taste of the fish. Expensive, yes - but definitely worthwhile if you're looking for top-of-the-line sushi. We ordered one sushi platter (about 8 pieces of sushi + rolls) and the omakase (which we stopped at about 12 pieces of sushi) and the whole thing cost about $120 before tip and tax.
I was brought to this place with a buddy I traveled to NY with… wow.. wow..wow! The omakase at this place is ridiculous and next level. What a treat it was to have been able to have this experience of eating at this restaurant. Highly recommend! This place will not disappoint.
I recently had the pleasure of dining at Sushi of Gari on 46th St, and it was, without a doubt, the best omakase experience of my life. The highlight of the evening was the incredible culinary artistry of the new Chef Chikara. His expertise and passion for sushi were evident in every dish he prepared, turning each course into a masterpiece of flavors and presentation. Manager Jenny's hospitality added to the exceptional experience. Her attention to detail and warm, welcoming demeanor made us feel like esteemed guests. The synergy between Jenny's management and Chef Chikara's culinary skills has brought Sushi of Gari back to its pinnacle of excellence. The restaurant's no nonsense professionalism, coupled with the impeccable service and extraordinary sushi (and Sake), made for an unforgettable evening. I’ve been coming here for over 10 years and it just got so much better. I highly recommend Sushi of Gari to anyone looking for the epitome of an omakase experience in NYC. Thanks to Chef Chikara and Jenny, Sushi of Gari on 46th St has firmly established itself as a must-visit destination for sushi connoisseurs. Rating: 5 stars
The sushi was melt-in-your-mouth good. The service was lovely. And considering the location, the prices were quite good. I had a salad with a delicious onion dressing. The salad was beautiful and more than the expected iceberg lettuce that you usually get at a sushi place. I also had some sushi a la carte and it was all good, really fresh and tender.
High quality. My 3 yr old and 7 year old love the sushi here, and they can be very typical picky kids!
What an amazing sushi spot! Perfectly attentive staff and fish so fresh you forget you are in NYC. Highly recommend the tuna selection and Gari Special. Almost every table I could see ordered the Gari Special. Essentially a sampler platter of 8 sushi pieces prepared how Chef Gari intends for the best flavor combo. From there you can decide what you like best but you’ll find all of them delicious and you end up ordering another Gari Special.
An absolutely unbelievable experience. I mean probably one of the best meals in my life time. Our chef, Yoshi, was truly great. He described each course fantastically and out of 16 pieces, there was not ONE that disappointed. I was introduced to so many different flavors textures and combinations. The service was amazing and I cannot wait to go back. Yoshi, you are amazing.
Expensive and worth every penny. Fresh sushi. Wonderful presentation and very good service. Did I mention... Very expensive. One of the few times that a very high bill was matched by the very high quality of the fish. Definitely a good place to put on your list for special occasions. Reservations are absolutely necessary.
If you've never been here, treat yourself to the Omakase. Each piece of sushi is hand made just for you. You eat one at a time and pay for however many you eat. It is not cheap, so be warned. For two people to fill up and a bottle of Saki, we dropped $500. Which we would normally never do, but this place came highly recommended. Sit at the bar so you can watch them make your food, super fun to watch. The best sushi I've ever eaten and one of the best meals of my life.
If you like Japanese fusion then this gem is the best sushi spot in the world. If you're looking for fancy imported fish with wasabi only then this is not the place for you. I literally have the entire omakase menu saved on my phone and I chase similar ingredients around the world. It is that delicious! The torched salmon with tomato onion relish is the best piece of sushi I've had in my life. I enjoy this place more than three star Michelin sushi spots any day of the week.
I came here because a client of mine claimed this was the best sushi in the city. Now, I've not really had a lot of sushi in the city. But, I can't imagine any place being better than this. I truly was blown away. Especially by the tomato and tuna sushi roll special and the Mille Crepe. I must bring up that Mille Crepe at least once a day. I highly doubt I will ever come back to the city and not come back to this spot. I really, really loved it.
This restaurant is incredible. The perfect service and attention to detail, the sensational food, the delicious wine, this place checked every box. Fine dining at its finest. Highly recommend for a fancy night out.
It is has been years since I came here. I dined last night at the counter with the chef’s omakase. It was just divine. I highly recommend it. It is the best restaurant on restaurant row in any case!
Absolute favorite sushi ever- always a treat. Not cheap but you get what you pay for! Delicious and service was fantastic. Don’t sleep on a spicy scallop hand roll- yummm
It’s the best sushi (outside of Japan) I’ve ever had!
Omakasi is out of this world good. I spent nearly 2,000 and it was totally worth it
The fish at this smallish Sushi place is very fresh-tasting, especially the salmon. Unlike many other Japanese restaurants, none of the main courses come with Miso soup, which has to be ordered a la carte. Service is correct and prompt, although everyone in our party of three had a hard time understanding the thickly accented English of our waitress and just nodded and ordered from the menu.
the miso soup was so good that I got two. we got a sushi selection and an omakase selection. they were so gorgeous and we left full. I don't know whar they put in the mochi ice cream to make it taste so good but it was amazing. the shrimp dumplings and the maitake tempera were pretty good
The only sushi place I go to in the city! Also I think the 46th location is the best Sushi of Gari location out of all. The omakase is amazing. Quality ingredients, super fresh seafood, and really nice staff! Make sure to always book to sit at the bar, so you get to see your food being prepared by the chef, it's pretty amusing.
Best sushi I’ve tasted in my whole life all around the world. West uptown small restaurant but always full. Excellent service. I had a seat at the bar and was served until I wanted to stop. It just kept getting better. I said to myself:”just one more!” until I couldn’t have anymore! Each was better than the last one. Amazing the red snapper, fluke with quail egg, salmon with stewed tomato, yellowtail with jalapeño, amazing toro and really good dessert, which is usually difficult to find. Very expensive but worth every penny
Best sushi I have ever had with excellent soup and appetizers. Outstanding place for a really special occasion but not somewhere most people could afford to come regularly. My wife had tempura which was also excellent. Friendly classy service. We had a reservation which looked like it was a good idea on a Saturday before a show.
Had such an amazing meal there. You have to sit at the sushi counter and do omakase. Here's what I ate in order of what they served me. Red snapper salad Sea bass with lemon salt Yellowtail jalapeño sauce Salmon marinated with soy Toro Sautéed white fish Horse mackerel Miso marinated black cod Baked oyster Tuna tofu sauce Salmon tomato Bonito Uni Smoked trout with apple sauce Mackerel with sesame Bbq toro Spicy scallop handroll Scallop Shrimp tempura roll (I ordered from server) Yes I was super full. My bill was 250 a person including tax and tip and I didn't order alcohol. 17 pieces, a hand roll, and 1 cut roll. Welcome to nyc. If you want a deal, don't go here, go to sushi by bou (12 pieces for $50 and the sushi is unbelievable)
This is a splurge of all sushi splurges. Omikase is the way to go, but beware they don't actually tell you when they're finished serving so it can get out of hand very quickly. There's also a separate roll menu that they don't give you until you ask. That is definitely much more economical. Loved the tuna platter and the fluke.
My girlfriend and I came here on a whim, and we were not disappointed. We loved this place. The waitress was very attentive & made for a pleasant night out. This place is unique, and I highly recommend it to anybody! We even got lucky & made friends with the table beside us for the night. An amazing restaurant with amazing food, I would recommend this restaurant to any and everybody! It’s amazing, with swift service. Will be returning! The waitress is very informative which made the experience that much better! 10/10. Note: They don’t accept Discover, only VISA.
Excellent! Came here with my boyfriend. We walked in and they found us a table immediately. We had to be quick cause we only had one hour to eat before going to a broadway show (the Book of Mormon which btw you must see), and we told the waitress. She was super quick, we could even have the whole omakase experience and still make it on time! Great service and delicious food. Everything was perfect. Great attention to my allergies and preferences also, which I appreciated so much. If you have the chance, GO!
Closest we’ve found in the city to a true Japanese sushi place like the best ones we’ve visited in Japan. We’ve been to Sushi of Gari many times, and were never disappointed. The fish and rice quality is top notch, the sake collection is awesome, the service is great and the atmosphere is perfect. Go for the Gari Special sushi assortment, or even better - the omakase!
This is one of those places, we are Omakase, it’s probably the way to go. Here are a few pictures from this evening. The fatty tuna was amazing, and so was the salmon. The eel was wow 😮, and my only regret was there was no more octopus 🐙 🤷🏻♂️ The seaweed salad and the miso soup 🥣 amazing 🤩 All in all - fantastic evening
Classic and at a level of excellence. I'm sitting at the bar tonight, having ordered the special appetizer. Suffice it to say outstanding and worth the sick price tag, with uni, fatty tuna, caviar, and a special sauce. I ordered a small selection of my favorite à la cart items, and I'm now waiting on the house special spicy scallop maki..... I know this is going to be an incredible night of sushi.
This is probably the best restaurant option in the Theatre District 🎭. The buildout is of a very traditional sushi restaurant: brightly lit, clean and cozy. The sushi is extremely fresh and delicious. Our server was attentive and was meticulous in arranging our plates on the table so that we could comfortably share our sushi, sashimi and sake. Everything was executed perfectly and we were in-and-out in time for our show!
Most definately one of the best sushi nights of my life... Was on a trip and wanted to try some "non italian" sushi, went for this place and was surprised by the quality! Excellent fish, amazing service and mood. Loved every single piece, even those that I usually avoid (urchin) because I thought I didn't like the taste. I have no idea what kind of magic they use but they changed my mind about so many kinds of fish :P Would come again but I'm from Italy so... Gotta wait a bit longer for another visit! I tried reserving another spot for omakase but the place was sold out (even for myself alone, was travelling alone), so get a spot in advance, don't wait for last minute booking! (visited the place in November 2016)
I’ve been coming here for over 10 years, and it has truly become part of my weekly routine. The quality has always been consistent, the service is outstanding, and the staff go above and beyond to make every visit a positive experience. It’s rare to find a place that maintains such high standards year after year. Always reliable, always welcoming, and always amazing highly recommend!
Yes, Sushi of Gari 46 is very expensive, especially if you get the signature omakase. However, the quality and taste of what you get is incredible. Ingredients are top notch and the preparation and presentation are outstanding. It is a special and rare treat. Service is fine and the decor is nothing too impressive, but their sushi is so very good. Even something as simple as a tuna roll, just melts in your mouth.
I can say this restaurant is one you should visit if you are in NY and look for a sushi restaurant. They serve authentic sushi and also very modernized sushi. You can enjoy classic and innovative sushi both. Also I enjoyed the atmosphere of them. Very clean, cozy, and authentic Japanese restaurant atmosphere are there. I can say you won’t regret to eat their sushi. They also have affordable sushi around 40 bucks.
DELICIOUS!! My husband and I made a reservation for 2 at 6pm on a Wednesday night. I highly recommend making reservations because they can get busy. The servers were very attentive and knowledgeable. Everything was super clean and the sushi was really fresh. I thought the price point was very affordable. We did a-la-carte and thought that it was totally worth the price. We ordered the Gari Special which consisted of 8 different fish. Each were all tender and fresh. They were also with soy sauce and wasabi so we were advised not to dip it in additional wasbai/soy sauce. Each bite was delicious and the fish were melt in my mouth good. Their cut rolls were SO good. I kept reaching for more and more even if I was so full. My favorite was the Fatty Tuna roll with scallions. I could probably eat that every day. ALSO, their uni from Japan was delicious!!! It wasn't very "fishy" compared to other places that get them from a lower quality place. Their uni was creamy and rich in flavor. OK- I honestly had a really great time at Sushi of Gari. Price point was good, sushi was fresh, the servers were super attentive, overall a really great time. I cant wait to go back for some more of their Fatty Tuna roll.
What an absolute gem this place is! Came pre-show and had the best time. The food was all incredible (we ate lots of rolls). The staff were so attentive and friendly. Having overheard my friend wish me a happy birthday, unprovoked they brought me a delicious matcha ice cream desert with a candle and the whole place sang. It was so nice. Will always come back here! Thank you!!!
Very good sushi in midtown west. I appreciate that each piece is a great cut, so you definitely are leaving satisfied. The restaurant also offers omakase and multiple interesting appetizers. Service is great. The place is not very big and more on the casual side. They also offer great lunch special, used to be my favorite nice lunch spot when I lived and worked in the area.
I had an incredible dining experience at Sushi of Gari 46. From the moment I walked in, the service was outstanding. The sushi chef was exceptionally kind and welcoming, which made the experience feel personal and authentic. The staff was attentive without being intrusive, ensuring that I had everything I needed throughout the meal. The ambience struck a perfect balance between elegance and comfort. The minimalist yet warm décor gave it an authentic Japanese feel, and the atmosphere was calm and inviting — ideal for an intimate sushi experience. Now, the highlight: the sushi. The variety of flavors and textures was truly remarkable. Each piece was beautifully presented and thoughtfully crafted, showcasing the freshness of the ingredients. The toro nigiri topped with caviar was a standout — the buttery richness of the fish paired perfectly with the briny pop of the caviar. The uni hand roll was another highlight; the creamy, sweet uni contrasted beautifully with the crisp nori and perfectly seasoned rice. Every bite felt like a harmonious balance of flavor and texture. It’s clear that a lot of attention goes into both the sourcing of ingredients and the preparation of each piece. If you’re a sushi lover, Sushi of Gari 46 is a must-visit. The combination of top-notch service, authentic atmosphere, and outstanding food makes this place a true gem. I can’t wait to go back!
If you're in the touristy, Times Square/Theater District area, this is a good option for sushi. Service is excellent and the sushi is fresh. Your best option is to order the omakase, but your bill can add up depending on how many extra rounds of sushi you order. My only quibble is that they try some unique combinations like a tomato topping on their tuna, but I think it masks the excellent freshness of their fish.
Went here with my daughter before a Broadway show. The things we had were solid - not exceptional but a cut above the average sushi place. The staff were really friendly and attentive - perhaps it felt like they were rushing us along at times, but that might have also been because they get a lot of pre-theater diners like us, so I didn't mind. I got the Gari's Special Sushi, where each piece has its own unique preparation with toppings, sauces, etc. They were creative and interesting although, again, not necessarily exceptional. I will say the prices were surprisingly reasonable given the location on Restaurant Row near Times Square. And it doesn't feel touristy inside. I'd go back. (P.S.: The dessert special of green tea cheesecake with green tea whipped cream, green tea ice cream, and green tea powder was amazing!!)
We enjoyed a meal for four on a Friday night. We we're seated immediately (we had reservations), and the service remained prompt and attentive throughout the evening. The sushi was excellent, as fresh as can be and nicely prepared. The only reason for less than 5 stars is that my wife's omakase meal (the most expensive item on the menu) was brought out in three flights of four pieces, where in her past experience it was served one piece at a time. Perhaps this was because we were at a table, or a concession to having others who ordered different, less elaborate meals. But it would have been nice to either have a choice or to be forewarned. Still, a nice, trendy experience.
Sushi was good unique similar to chemistry room but $$$ Service ok a bit intrusive but also not super helpful at the same time. Spilled half our bottle and didn’t attempt to comp
The sushi at Gari 46 was great. It was the first time I went with some of the additional Gari "Toppings" the chef adds to each fish and each of the sauces selected really brought out the flavors of the fish. The service was impeccable, always smiling, extremely knowledgeable and accommodating special requests. I highly recommend Gari 46 (near Time Square).
Had the pleasure of enjoying the omakase here. The skills, presentation and flavours from start to finish was exellent. Really well worth the experience. Some interesting combinations of ingredients with what i believe could be their own house sauces, just sublte enough to sll each pieces taste and texture to shine.
A high-end sushi place with interesting chef's speciality sushi definitely worth of trying. I also liked the dumplings and other non-sushi dishes. Not a cheap place but worth it. The place is a bit noisy when full of people, but the atmosphere was vibrant and cosy. Helpful personnel who kindly recommended good wine pairing.
The tuna of gari is a staple, with 6 different tuna nigiri plus a roll. The eel avocado roll and nigiri are very strong, as is anything with their tofu sauce. This is the original modern Omakase, and while there are better options if you want to spend over $100, this is still a great spot for the $50-$80 range
The food was wonderful and service was over the top. We never even had an empty water glass. The towelettes were a nice touch and the ambiance was nice. Sushi a bit pricier than many in the area, but not everything was that pricey and the food and service made the higher price point worth it.
Inventive, fusion sushi in a crowded location. Obviously, it was my mistake to come to Time Square and expect a less chaotic atmosphere. The service was thoughtful and they even asked if we had a show to go to. Probably so they can get you your food faster and send you on your merry way. I'm not the biggest fan of fusion nigiri so this rating is heavily of personal taste. For the price that we paid, there are so many other omakase places in Manhattan that offer a more serene dining experience.
Ehh. The omakase was interesting in presentation but ultimately the flavors were nothing special. The saki was excellent. Given the absolutely eyewatering price tag, however, i would never come back. Simply not worth what they charge as high quality fish is basically a commodity in this area. At half the price, 3.5 stars, at current pricing, 2.5
The sushi was decent, but not the best I've ever had. The service was great, but the ambiance/lighting could have been better. Pretty pricey as well.
Had omakase here... mixed feelings, on one hand all sushi courses were delicious and carefully made by our chef, on the other hand, all materials used were very ordinary with nothing fancy (all local fish, and all common varieties) and nothing innovative (except they put warm meshed tomato on salmon which looked innovative but didn’t necessarily make it tasty). And the chefs were also making sushi for takeouts in the meantime.... We’d be happy if they charge less than 80 dollars each, which would be what the courses actually worth. But the price they charged was similar to other way better omakases we had in other better known sushi restaurants.
I have to say I was very disappointed with them after all these years of going to this restaurant. Ive been to all of their locations since more than 8 years ago or so and I used to love them. I haven’t been there for over a year and decided to stop by as Covid situation is calming down, and ended up to be the last time I will ever visit. Service was unbelievably terrible. Waitress was keep pushing us to make decision (though we didn’t take that long) and even asked us to forcefully finish the pieces so she can put next plate instead of her making observation to judge the right timing to bring next dish. Made mistake in the order as well. Quality of sushi itself went down in my opinion as well. There were half cooked rice mixed in the sushi rice which should never happen. Fishes were ok but Uni was very so so. I understand it’s not a top sushi restaurant though it’s not that casual either. I expect better quality and service for $125 for 12 piece omakase.
I didn’t like the experience, I think it’s a tourist trap. Too expensive, they offer a 12 piece Sushi Omakase for $150 USD we ordered 2 of them. In my view Omakase has to be the best the chef has to offer the day, what we got were 3 trays with 4 assorted badly seasoned and overly adorned nigiri. No respect for japanese tradition. It’s an ideal business proposition that caters to unknowledgeable tourists with money to spend.
The sushi was fine. The price was ridiculous and the serving sizes were tiny. Perhaps that’s just New York City. But after dropping $165 on about $60 worth of sushi I walked down the street and had a tasty, fair priced hamburger. Will never go back there.
Woof. Unbelievably overpriced for what you get, and what you get is 12 pieces of sushi with ZERO finesse. Just sloppy and weak flavours. These look okay, but they were indeed just okay. Their fish quality is good but you're paying 160 dollars for 12 pieces..... it better be good quality at least. But for that price the experience should be amazing, and it was soooo not at all. What is amazing is that they are charging this price. I will pay 200-400 for a good omakase i rly dont care because it can be so worth it, this is so not. The lights are so bright it makes you want to shrink back its almost like being in an interrogation room i really dont feel like im exaggerating that much. Terrible ambiance so so bad that would be reason to never go back but with the sushi being so subpar at the price point. Just avoid.
I live in the neighbourhood but never visited this place so decided to give it a try last Sunday night. When I tried making a reservation on Opentable, it required credit card details with a threat of $25 charge for a no-show. Red flag! But given tables were available for anytime in the next hour, I opted for a walk-in since it was only a 10 minute walk from me anyway. To my surprise, when I showed up, the hostess told me they can't sit me at a table given they are fully booked despite the fact that the place was 80% empty! I asked for a manager and pulled up the Opentable app for him that showed plenty of availability. However he could not provide any explanation of why they can't sit us at the table. Red flag #2! Long story short, they sat our party of 2 at the bar. We opted for their most expensive special sushi and sashimi combo on the menu. But the food was mediocre at best. It tasted 'fishy', no pun untended, and did not seem super fresh. The fish selection was not too impressive either (no uni, no unagi, no rare/unique fish types). Red flag #3! We left pretty disappointed given the check-in experience and food was quality for the high price tag charged. I will not be returning to this place again despite being a huge sushi fan and living nearby. If you want really great sushi and customer service in Hells Kitchen area, just walk up to Columbus Circle and enjoy Blue Ribbon! They don't take reservations through Opentable but are so worth the wait, if any!!
