Four Four South is a great addition to the neighborhood. I’ve been a couple times already, both in person and for takeout and I always finish my meal very satisfied. The braised beef noodle soup is a classic and my most frequent order. I recommend the beef wrap because the beef comes wrapped in a crispy scallion pancake and is delicious.
The braised beef noodles soup is truly one of my favorite meals in the city
Delicious and welcome addition to Restaurant Row. Who would have thought Taiwanese food would be on this block? Noodles with beef and the spicy - or braised! - sauce is a treat. Braised beef rice is also worth a try since it comes with pickled mustard greens to give you a nice "kick" with your meal. Efficient service. Quick kitchen. Was there for dine-in, would definitely try take-out! Credit accepted.
Beef noodle was flavorful and the portion size was good. The soup could be a bit hotter but it might just be my personal preference. Service was super efficient and friendly. Happy to have found a casual go-to noodle spot!
I think this is a new location in Midtown so it wasn’t super busy when I went on a Saturday night vs hordes of people at literally every other restaurant nearby. I wasn’t sure what to expect since I’ve never heard of them before but the beef and tendon noodles were really good - very soft tendon, lots of noodles, and yummy soup! If you’re looking for Asian comfort food for cheapish prices this place is 🤌👌🤙
I went to the Four Four SV in Hells Kitchen. I had a very upset stomach and had some pretty bad stomach issues for the last 24 hours. I ordered the beef noodles and my stomach felt 100% better within about 15 minutes. It literally cured me of all GI problems I had over the last 24 hours. I lived in HsinChu, Taiwan for a year in the mid 90s. This is the first real Taiwan noodle soup I've had since then. Delicious! Thank you!
This is a hidden gem near my job and so far every dish I’ve tried here has been DELICIOUS. Highly recommend their noodle soup with braised beef.
Just had lunch here with a friend after our dance class! The beef noodle soup was perfectly flavored and I added tomatoes to my, which made it nice and fresh. Get the lemon slushee for dessert. Delicious!
Almost five years in the U.S. this is probably top 3 most authentic Chinese food place I’ve had. No crazy amount of salt, oil, msg like most of other highly rated “Chinese food” restaurants. Flavors are well-balanced. Ingredients are fresh. Stunning.
The beef noodles are the best I've had for a while! Dined here twice within a week and I don't even live close to HK that's how tasty they are. They're really good at fried chicken and pork chop too.
The menu was a bit confusing and waiter was not very helpful the first time here, however, the food was absolutely superb. I absolutely loved the sesame oil chicken soup although it might taste a bit herbal/medicinal to people who don't eat authentic Chinese food much. The braised beef noodle soup was more of a crowd pleaser if you don't like things to spicy. We have come back here and the service has been better and the food always outstanding.
Pork chop rice was huge and tasty. The beef noodle soup was big but broth lacked depth
Loved a warm bowl of beef noodle soup on a cold day. It tasted like home. It was perfect. The broth has great flavor and depth. The side dishes were phenomenal. Highly recommend.
We got to the restaurant at 10:30, and the person there was very nice and let us order even though they were closing pretty soon. I got the popcorn chicken noodles which were amazing. The fact that the popcorn chicken was served on the side was very nice, as it kept the chicken crispy and the seasoning of the soup wasn’t disrupted by the chicken’s seasoning. The noodles were also very nice, with just the right amount of chewiness. The soup was probably the best part of the meal, being the perfect thing to warm me up on a cold New York evening. I would highly recommend this place for anyone looking for something warm to eat!
Definitely the best Chinese food in NYC!!! As a Chinese, this restaurant made food just taste like home!! The flavor is extraordinarily authentic and delicious!!! I strongly recommended their braised beef slices because they made it from the most tender and flavorful beef with balanced aroma of spice. Not salty but just the right amount that blend well with the original freshness of the food. No comment on the environment because I ordered their delivery from Uber and I don’t know where to leave my comment on their best food to let more people know!!! Please keep the best recipe; and for food lovers, they made authentic food definitely worth a try!!!!
This place is beyond amazing. Super clean ! Delicious 🍲 soups, amazing dumplings 😋. It's a hidden 💎 gem. The employees are very attentive and super quiet so that you can enjoy your time there. I honestly am blown away!!! Please bring your loved one and have a wonderful experience.
Great food (I had the noodles with braised beef), excellent green tea. The place is clean and well lit. Very bright and sober atmosphere, not moody at all. Staff were a little cold but efficient. Try the pork gua bao, so tasty!
Happy to have discovered this place, I've never had the pleasure to eat taiwanese food before but it was really good as the service ! The noodles I've taken were lighly spicy and so tasty !
They delivered their food in customized containers. My soup noodle is perfect. The noodle is kept separate from the soup and in a no-spill container. The pork over rice could be a little greasy for some people, but it is really well done! Meat and tendon are all very soft. Five stars for this amazing late night meal experience🤗
Big portions, especially the pork chop. Beef rice is amazing. Taiwanese sausage is a can’t miss
Good food and atmosphere. Serving well known Taiwanese food like popcorn chicken and beef noodle soup. Portions were very good and filling. Many side dish items were available as well to order.
Good taiwanese beef noodle soup. Tastes very standard but standard is hard enough to find in the US. The chunks of meat and tendon are tender and delicious. Texture of the noodles are also nice. It just felt like the broth was missing something special. The braised pig's ear is also good.
Every aspect of timing and service was well-coordinated. Several of their main courses provide satisfactory quality. This restaurant maintains reliable performance. The staff shows outstanding professionalism. Hope this place treats you well.
5* for their braised pork rice, OMG seriously da bomb! The quality is from the perfectly cooked rice- chewy flavorful, massive chunks of braised pork - soft but not falling apart, deep flavour but not too burnt or salty! The bowl is big can easily feed me thrice 😅 and also comes with half braised egg. 100% recommend
gua bao pork And beef also spicy beef noodle soupe and chicken noodle soup I love this place the food is authentic and the flavor so delicious 🤤 I will back I am from Oxford Al Thank you !!!! Very kind the service
I've gone to the Flushing location countless times and only recently learnt there was also a branch here! (Never went to the East Village one although I heard that one closed recently.) This location is a bit smaller, understandably, but the decor is as detailed as always, right up to the distinctive 北一女 green colour haha. Anyways, I got the standard beef noodle soup here and it was delicious, as expected. The broth was rich, savoury, and very authentic, the noodles were nice and chewy, and the meat was flavourful and so soft / easy to chew. The location's a bit out of the way for me, so I am not sure if I'll be back to *this* branch specifically, but I expect many, many more bowls of beef noodle soup at their other place in Flushing to come.
Have come here multiple times, both ear in and take out are good. I really like the Dan Dan noodles, but be careful they do have a kick. They're a go to order. The beef noodles are good but could use a broth or a little more flavor which is why I like the Dan Dan noodles so much. They are also very quick, only about 15-20 minutes to prepare an order. I've rarely had to wait long.
The atmosphere stays with you like the taste. The dinner included multiple courses, with each better than the last. I had fun because of who I was with, and the restaurant met our needs. This place has secured my loyalty. No negative feedback from anyone in my circle.
The value offered makes this place stand out locally. The serving sizes here are generous. In addition to good dishes, the mood is excellently set. Satisfying meals. Remarkably attentive employees. Your payment brings full satisfaction.
Wonderful food! I loved the broth and tender beef in their spicy beef noodle soup
Was in the city for a show and was craving a good bowl of noodles. I was greatly satisfied with my soup, black fungus, and hot tea. Everything was done perfectly and came out fast, which was exactly what I needed because I had to rush back to the theater. My only shame is that I didn't take any pictures, it was too good to leave sitting! Highly recommend!
I had lunch here a couple of times, taking out and dining in. They made me surprised with the quality of food that they delivered. It was a comfort food with a balanced taste and felt like your mom or grandma cooked for you. I tried the noodles soup, dried noodles with sauce and rice with fried porkchop. They're all good with reasonable price and perfect portion. If you like sour taste like me you should choose any noodles soup with tomatoes. The fried porkchop over rice that the staff recommended me was a hit. It was crunchy but juicy at the same time, an easy choice if you don't know what to order.
Got the Taiwanese popcorn chicken over rice - it came out in less than five minutes and was absolutely delicious. Very comparable to the popcorn chicken you can get in Chinatown. Went two days later and for the beef and tomato noodle soup which was also a hit - the broth was amazing. Quick and inexpensive meal with generous portions, definitely solo diner friendly.
Wanted a low key but delicious dining experience after a recent Broadway show. I work part time in this neighborhood and have walked by this place many times so I'm glad we finally tried it. it did not disappoint! We got the braised pork over rice, dan dan noodles, cucumber appetizer, and a lemon mango slush. Everything was delicious. The seating is modern and clean and the server could not have been nicer. We will return.
Cozy and comfy spot for beef noodle soup or any other Taiwanese food! I really enjoyed their tomato beef noodle soup. Very soft and savory. Dandan noodle was not spicy like other dandan noodle that I’ve tried before but it was still delicious and actually it’s better for my stomach so I loved it! 😍 It’s such a great cozy spot for Taiwanese meal. 💖
This is certainly a hidden gem. We randomly stopped here on a quest for food and was not disappointed. The food was so yummy and the atmosphere was cozy. The portions are generous, you definitely can share. The prices are good as well. There are a lot of beef options (fair warning). Whenever I’m in the area, I’ll definitely stop by again. The also have outdoor seating. Not sure if it’s year round though. All and all great service!
Great new flavors to the Restaurant Row! Definitely a great addition to the neighborhood! We kept our order tame with the spicy (medium spice) beef soup and the Taiwanese popcorn chicken over rice. Both were delicious and perfect proportions. They've only been open since October and the staff is very attentive and knows their stuff.
Pretty great overall. The portions are pretty large, too. I've ordered a couple of times and haven't been able to finish a whole meal by myself. The jade cucumber appetizer is too sweet for my taste, though, so avoid that if you're expecting something vinegary.
I got the popcorn chicken here as a small lunch on a Saturday afternoon. The chicken had a good savory flavor and I particularly enjoyed the breading.
One of the favorite places in Manhattan for a hearty bowl of beef noodle soup. Noodle has the right amount of chewiness and absorbs the right amount of soup flavor. The half meat half tendon version is particularly enjoyable. Beef is tender and tendon is well prepared. Soup is traditional Taiwanese flavor but with more umami added to it.
Stopped by for dinner around 6pm which was right before their dinner rush. The entire time I was there, they were quite busy with in person diners and filling online orders so there was not much service besides getting the menu, my food and the check. I ordered the beef noodle soup with a braised egg. The egg had a nice savory flavor and the beef chunks were seasoned and tender (about 6 pieces). It seemed like an endless bowl of noodles and I left feeling very full. The soup was quite light in taste. This is a solid spot to get a filling meal in Hell's Kitchen. Their bathroom was clean and had a bidet which was pretty unexpected.
I ordered from door dash and picked it up. It was ready in 15 minutes, all packed and ready to go. The cucumbers were tasty, the spicy beef noodle soup could’ve been a bit more flavorful, it has a good kick to it. I like how their to go Tupperware is nested so the noodles and soup were separated. I originally ordered for the popcorn chicken which was good but I was sad it didn’t have the fried basil or any greens in it. Overall 7/10
I really liked the food when I went to eat the restaurant. Today I ordered and I have to say the portions are smaller and the noodles were very soft and sticky. The tendon tasted a bit weird. Overall, the taste is pretty good. Wish they had Taiwanese sausage too!
Like many other reviews, this is quite an authentic spot to curb your cravings. Everything as seen in the photo was delicious! Great service. Plenty of seats and even a back room. The only thing was the bathroom was in terrible shape, and that's usually a tell-tale sign of the condition of the rest of the restaurant. You decide. 🤔
Beef: 3/5 (not the most tender, decent flavor) Tendon: 4/5 (very tender but small) Noodles: 4/5 (very good noodles) Soup: 3.5/5 (good soup) Portion: 3.5/5 (good amount of food) Price: 3.5/5 (18 after tax for a beef noodle soup but this is nyc midtown so it is what it is) Very prompt service. Very good for nyc.
Quaint little Taiwanese restaurant serving a much needed hot bowl of Braised beef noodles on a chilly night. Braised beef was flavourful but could have been more tender but the tendons were Braised to perfection and just melts in your mouth! The pop corn chicken was a tad sweet but was juicy and crunchy served over a sumptuous bowl of rice with a bit of salted vegetables on the side. Be sure to pay the extra dollar for the chilli oil which adds more flair and flavour to everything! A good place to visit and will definitely be back to try other things!
The Taiwanese fried pork was delicious! But the guy who took my order was very rude towards me in his responses when I tried asking him questions about the menu. To me it looked like he did not want to be there by his attitude and response. Overall the food was amazing and I would still go again. One bad experience isn’t enough for me to stop eating there.
good for a walk in lunch or dinner. Food is mid to average but nothing to recommend. I liked the beef noodle soup and the tomato beef noodle soup, the broth was flavorful ish but noodles were mid. big portions tho.
Nice place, good prices and good service, and not crowded when I was there despite it being dinner on a Saturday on restaurant row. But people with peanut allergies should be aware that there are peanuts in their braising liquid, so the beef noodle soup and all other braised items on the menu are off limits. The waiters were well informed and could show me which items on the menu didn’t have peanuts, but since this is the most common food allergy in the country I think it should be marked on the menu.
Summary - I have been here now about three or four times and honestly, I enjoy this place downstairs toothpaste good service. I keep trying different things in interest. Something are too sweet but the beef noodle soup is great. Overall, pretty happy all the time. Food – so I’ve had many different things here beef noodle soup spicy not spicy pork chops sausage all the small side, dishes, and pleasantly impressed. Overall with everything. The soup remains my favorite. However, the spicy is too spicy the pork chop and the sausage we both both solid however they were a little sweeter than I normally would like and I can’t wish there was sticky rice. Atmosphere – it’s very cute and kind of hidden. It’s downstairs almost like basement so it’s not the staff is super attentive. Service is super fast and I just keep going back cause I feel at home. It’s very homie.
I had the popcorn chicken and the sesame oil vermicelli noodle soup... The popcorn chicken was amazing with the hot sauce with it. The noodle soup tasted mostly the broth flavor and it was subtle and pretty good. All in all a decent place to get some good food.
Solid Taiwanese beef, with quick and good service. I'd recommend the noodle dishes, as the braised beef over rice was a little plain (although the meat was fall apart tender!) Also recommended is the soybean milk, which is like a hug on a cold day. Not the most spectacular Taiwanese food I've ever had, but it certainly hit the spot and the prices are extremely reasonable for the area.
Pretty good for casual food and walk-in. Service was friendly and the food came out relatively quickly. I think people usually order their noodle dishes. We tried the beef/tripe/tendon noodle soup, steamed dumplings, and bean sprouts. I wasn’t the biggest fan of the noodle soup but my friend finished it happily. The dumplings were good, and bean sprouts were alright. Not many veggie options.
Nice to have a warm bowl of noodles on a cold day. Cucumbers were refreshing and not spicy which is how I need them. I had the tomato beef noodle soup. It was good. The noodles were a nice chewy texture. My husband who likes spicy said the spicy beef noodle wasn’t spicy at all. I enjoyed the dumplings. They were oily but had good flavor.
When I came in I ordered the Braised Beef Noodle Soup. The soup was very flavorful and the noodles were perfect. I ordered take out and was surprised when it came out in only 5 minutes. The reason why I gave this dish 3/5 is because the braised beef (one of the main parts of the meal) was un chewable, the beef had a strange flavor, and there were only 5 pieces of beef. The beef has probably been freezer burnt considering it’s taste and the fact that the soup took 5 minutes. If there was only 1 problem with my dish I would give this a 4/5. The real problem is that I ordered a braised beef soup wanting some braised beef. So considering the lack, taste, and texture of the beef I give this place a 3/5.
Food was lacking a bit of flavor, and my beef was a bit tough, but I still left full for the night. My husband's meat (from a braised beef over rice dish) was overly seasoned with cinnamon, which left the taste a bit unbalanced. Wish we could've tried some of the appetizers instead- the pig ears, gua bao, and popcorn chicken all looked promising.
The braised beef in my noodle soup is quite small and fatty. And there are only handful in it. Where is the beef?! Also beef pancake/roll should change its name to cucumber pancake/roll. Beef should be the main character, not cucumber! Nevertheless the overall flavor is good.
Got take out for popcorn chicken and beef roll. Wirh the high price the food qualities are pretty bad. Would not visit again.
I ordered the chicken and broccoli rice. I can’t really complain. It’s a nice and light dish. Also quite reasonably priced. However, I felt the service fell a little short. The staff didn’t seem very welcoming and just seemed really cold. Didn’t even say thank you. Perhaps bring in a little Taiwaneses hospitality would be a good idea.
As a Taiwanese transplant I'm always on the hunt for quality authentic places to go to when I'm too lazy to make my own, and since I've read great reviews by strangers I was excited to try this place out. The pork ear was passable except for the fact that it tasted faintly of fridge, and the signature tofu was heated unevenly, presumably in the microwave because I could hear the beeps. Beef noodles (tomato broth) - the noodles were excellent, beef tender and juicy, but the broth could use a bit more seasoning. Bubble milk tea was lovely. Might not visit again until my other Taiwanese friends confirm that quality has improved.
Not super authentic food. Sauce tastes processed and the fried food is a bit too oily. Staff is nice though!
The place is quiet and clean. A few solo tables eating by themselves. It's not quite a take out place but not really dine in experience either. I didnt hear any Taiwanese speaking so Im wondering if this place is even authentic. I brought a friend to try out Taiwanese cuisine and we both were not impressed. We had eaten Taiwanese when they had a street fair a few years back. We loved the food and we were looking fwd to try this place. The gua bao is tiny and not as tasty as the ones we had at the street fair. The drinks are too sweet. Our entree orders were ok but we love the fresh noodles that it came with. The portion size is reasonable but no so pleasing for our stomach. The staff was kinda cold...barely spoke and not very welcoming. It wasnt busy at all so no reason why this experience should be disappointing.
Small, reasonably priced restaurant. Two rooms separated by the kitchen and bathroom. Food was hot and heavy. I did not care for it. Rather tasteless. Service s was adequate but cold. Zero personality. The one bathroom seemed to have a bidet. Place was very clean and looked pretty new. Not for me.
AVOID THIS PLACE! As tourists from Brazil, we visited this restaurant solely for takeout, but the experience was appalling. Despite being nearly empty, except for one couple dining in, we were greeted by an extremely rude manager who seemed to take pleasure in being hostile. What's worse, he barely spoke English or understood , yet didn't hesitate to belittle us. After trying to place a large order for 12 people, he continued to be rude and confrontational, prompting me to request a refund for two orders that had already been prepared. His behavior was unprofessional and embarrassing. I feel sorry for the owner, but until this place improves its customer service, I'd advise others to steer clear.
Order from this place before and thought was good so reordered again. But this is the worst tomato noodles I have ever had in my entire life. No tomato flavor at all also the beef in it are poor quality. Ordered a braised egg too and it tasted like left over food. Not fresh at all. So disappointed.
