Shafoot- cool and refreshing starter, and a food vegetarian option, soldi even though it was not personally the highlight for me. Fasha- Amazing and deeply flavored stew. Reminded me of line a Yemeni Ropa Vieja. Really good with the flatbread and grated tomato. Fasool Beans - great side dish for a group, nicely flavored and not overcooked beans. Both bread were good, although I would suggest the flatbread if you are only going to get one. Limeade was a great side dish too. Service was so friendly and very helpful with navigating the menu.
I was visiting ny and there isn’t much Yemenis at my state so this was a really exciting experience for my sisters and I. We loved everything, we came 2 weeks ago and it’s all I can think about from my nyc trip. Everything was perfect and the staff were so sweet and offered the soup for free. If you want GOOD authentic Yemeni food, you need to come here. I also have a very sensitive stomach so I usually feel icky after eating most food but this was one of the few times I felt so refreshed and was able to stuff my face ughh I really loved this restaurant
Amazing food and great service! The Lamb and chicken Haneeth was incredibly tender and flavorful, and the rice was perfectly spiced. The restaurant is clean, welcoming, and has a warm, authentic vibe. Easily one of the best Yemeni spots in Brooklyn. Highly recommend! Sahar was very hospitable and cared a lot about pleasing the customers.
The lamb haneeth at Yemenat was incredible — tender, juicy, and full of authentic flavor, with perfectly seasoned rice. While other Yemeni spots in NYC are truly good, this one really stands out. I also love how their branding and presentation blend traditional Yemeni charm with a modern, clean feel, making the experience more inviting. Can’t wait to try more!
Lunch at Yemenat in Bay Ridge, Brooklyn NYC. Lamb haneeth, unlimited free spiced tea, salad, and Lahm Sughar. Food came out quickly and tasted amazing Staff super friendly and attentive. Great with dietary restrictions. Can't wait to come back. Yemeni cuisine is my favorite middle eastern. Note: credit card surcharge.
I was in luck to have found Yemenat as Chef Akram Said was doing his residency there. The food was delicious! "Min Hanna" 👃🏻as the Yemenis say. Well seasoned, sharable portions, fast service! Everyone was accommodating and attentive. Place was too good, that I came for a second visit in the span of 3 days. The dish that is not to be missed out on is "Muva Fish"(Branzino). Delicious choices were, the Beef Fahsa, their bread and their rice, The Yemeni Kebab, the Shafoot, and the Aqdah Chicken. The dessert is not to be skipped. The "Areeka" bowl should be listed among the world's comfort foods. They also had cardamom gelato, which was phenomenal. I love a place that doesn't hold back on cardamom! This is the kind of place you would crave and wanna come back to for their food, the service and the vibe!
I visited this Yemeni restaurant in NYC and left absolutely blown away. The food was incredibly delicious — rich flavors, authentic spices, and portions that make you feel taken care of. The staff were warm, welcoming, and treated us like family. From the moment the bread hit the table to the last bite of dessert, everything was perfect.
Outstanding food. Really cozy place. Friendly service. Just ask for their recommendations and don’t over think it. One of my top 5 meals in 2.5 years in NYC.
Highly recommend place in Brooklyn area if you want to try something different. Isn’t a common food that you eat every single day, and is worth it to try. My friends and I went to this place for first time and we loved the dishes, specially the lamb with the broth, muva fish and shafoot, it comes with homemade bread (which is so good as well), Definitely I will come back again.
My wife and I went to Yemenat Restaurant and had an incredible experience. The food was amazing and the service was perfect. The Yemeni Authentic music was beautiful, added a lot to the vibes. Everyone was very polite and welcoming especially Sahar -our wonderful server- recommended turned out to be absolutely delicious. My wife especially loved the authentic salad, the fahsa, and the foul. The rashoush bread was outstanding, and the bint sahn dessert—fresh from the oven—was the highlight of our meal. To top it all off, the bill was even less than we expected. Highly recommended!
Love that this Michelin restaurant is in Bay Ridge! I have to admit, I tried Yemeni cuisine once and I thought the food was okay, so I never really sought it out after that. Recently, a friend said she wanted to go for her birthday, so that is how I ended up here. Because of my previous experience, my expectations were low, but this place blew me away. I only really review things that I consider life-changing. And this was just that. The place was tastefully remodeled (apparently they upgraded recently). The place was PACKED (thank God I made reservations in advance). The staff were really kind and attentive. I had the shredded lamb dish with bread. For me, it is the Yemeni version of Ropa Vieja, which I love, so the dish I chose really worked for me. The bread was fresh and soft and paired well with the dish. My friend had the fish. I am not a huge fan of fish though I did try it. It was good. The yogurt sauce with it didn't really speak to me or my friend, but she loves seafood and enjoyed that dish. The dessert was my favorite part. I forget the name, but it's bint el sahn? It's a pastry with honey, except they add a twist with some kind of cream sauce. It was perfectly flakey and just enough sweetness. We devoured it. Just like knife is the hit for Tanoreen, this dessert is the hit for Yemenat (in my opinion). I am so glad I was dragged here! I plan to introduce folks to this place. You won't regret it. Highly recommend!
Wow! Just wow. I absolutely LOVED everything — the food, the vibes, and the service. Everyone was so respectful and made sure we had everything we needed. I wish I took pictures, but I was too busy enjoying the food 😂. The wait was not long. It was totally worth it. I’ll definitely be coming back! There food taste just like the food i grew up eating in Yemen itself 🤍.
I recently visited Yemenat Restaurant all the way from Canada, and it was absolutely worth the trip! The unique and authentic Yemeni food here is simply outstanding. Every dish feels like a true taste of Yemen – from the perfectly spiced haneeth to the flavorful saltah, everything was delicious and prepared with care. The ambiance of the restaurant was warm and inviting, making it a great place to enjoy a hearty meal. The staff were friendly, attentive, and made me feel right at home, even though I was visiting from out of town. If you're looking for the best and most unique Yemeni food in New York, Yemenat is a must-visit. I’m already planning my next trip!
A very, very exciting new spot that’s quite different from Yemen Cafe. They have a lot more fish and seafood options, as well as other unique menus that you don’t see a lot in other Yemeni restaurants. Definitely get the Muva Fish (very well seasoned), the Fahsa with shrimp and salmon (THE BEST!), the Grilled Chicken (super juicy), Lamb Agdah (very tasty), and mix appetizers (we love the eggplant!). Also as a rice connoisseur I can say that their rice is just so much better and more fragrant than Yemeni Cafe. Even their free salad!! So fresh and generous! Still thinking about my meal here and already planning a return visit soon. Do not leave without their Adeni Chai, might I say that it’s also better than Qahwah House’s??? Yes, yes, just go folks!!
I had such a great time at Yemenat! Everyone was super nice and welcoming it really felt like home. The food was so tasty and fresh, full of real Yemeni flavor. The place has a cozy vibe and the staff are amazing. Definitely one of my favorite spots in New York!
No matter how big the table I’d been given, it was never enough. For this, I blame the rashoosh. Baked in a clay oven, brushed with clarified butter and speckled with black nigella seeds, rashoosh is a layered flatbread about the size of a medium pizza. If you want a fork you may have to ask for one, because most diners at Yemenat scoop up their meals with pieces of rashoosh pinched in the right hand. Every third item on the menu seems to be served with a steaming-hot wheel of it, and it can stack up like flapjacks at a pancake breakfast.
I had an amazing dining experience here. The food is outstanding. For seafood lovers one must order the Muva Fish which came out fresh and flavorful. The delicious baked bread is a must! Staff was friendly and attentive. They even offered me a cup of Adani Tea to top off my meal. Highly recommend and will definitely be returning.
Dinner at Yemenat was extraordinary. I eat Yemeni food often, but this was on another level. We ordered shafoot, hummus, lamb haneeth, muva fish, and areeka for dessert - each dish was executed to perfection. I cannot wait to go back with a large group to justify ordering the whole menu!
I finally made it to Yemenat after reading Pete Wells’ New York Times piece, and it completely lived up to the hype. I went for lunch and was warmly welcomed by Iman, who was incredibly friendly and helpful. She guided me through the menu and recommended the beef fahsa, which was absolutely phenomenal — rich, bubbling hot, deeply flavorful, and easily enough for two people. She also explained the two house-made hot sauces, both of which added great depth without overwhelming the dish. To drink, I had a fresh limeade with mint and milk — refreshing, creamy, and unlike anything I’ve had before. Iman also brought out a complimentary tea I really enjoyed, and since it was my first visit, the chef sent the Yemeni sundae for dessert — sweet, creamy, and just the perfect finish. The space is modern, clean, and relaxed with great music and a warm, homey vibe. I left completely full and incredibly impressed. One of the best meals I’ve had in a long time — I’ll definitely be back and bringing friends.
We've ordered delivery several times, and had lunch there. However, we finally had dinner in-person, for the first time. This place is almost perfection, in my opinion. There are two things I'd like to mention though. This is a matter of opinion, but the lighting is a bit bright for dinner, compared to most other restaurants. Second, it was quite cold out, and we could feel the cold breeze every time the door opened, even though we were one of the furthest tables from the door. This could easily be remedied with a curtain or something. Other than that, the food and service were awesome, and we can't wait for our next meal there.
Food met all expectations. I’ve had Yemeni food before but not as flavorful and fresh as this. The lamb broth, lamb haneeth with rice and chicken aqdah were delicious. The bread that came with the hummus was hot and so soft. We ended the meal with adeni tea and dessert. Everyone left with a full and happy stomach. Would come back for sure.
I have heard a lot about Yemanat on social media. We decided to give it a try and it did not disappoint. Everything was exceptional. The food was aamazing! We got the lamb, hummus with liver,, and that green dish as an appetizer. Which was all amazing. We tried the adani tea and it surpassed all thoses yemani coffee places. The other thing, i would like to point out was the service we went there with a toddler and she is a handful. The hosf was so nice! She made us comfortable and told us to not worry about the litte trouble our baby was making. The servers were very nice and helpful. Overall amazing place, exceptional flavors. Will be going back very very soon! Thank you!
The reviews are true that this restaurant has delicious and unique Yemeni food. I had the soup broth, a salad, the baked lamb which fell off the bone and melted in my mouth, and a cardamom ice cream dessert with caramel sauce, crushed cookies and coated nuts. All I can say is YUM! Definitely worth trying when you go to Bay Ridge. More than the usual middle eastern food. Eman the manager is a gem and directed me to such tasteful dishes. Thanks, Eman! ❤️

This place is bangin! the food here is what matters and it is really really spicy (both the hot and early kind), filling, and moderately priced. I'd go here if you're feeling a slightly more up scale dinner than what you can get at a fast casual spot. Our table ordered a hummus, which also came with a large, flat bread to dip and rip with (similar to a roti or naan) and i ordered a beef stew that came with seasoned rice. The hummus was excellent and we also ordered a hummus that came with sprinkled lamb. also excellent, especially with the bread. The beef stew was delicious and i had enough for leftovers the stew came in a small bowl that I would scoop out and put on the rice. together, the combo was delish. come here for some different food than typical American fare.
I was terribly hungry and didn't know what to have for lunch, so I decided to walk down Brooklyn's Fifth Avenue. As I walked along, I remembered Yemenat, I heard good things about the place, and went straight there. My first impression was the cleanliness of the windows. Those are the eyes of the inside! The rest, the photos say it all. I'm not an expert on Yemeni food, but what I ate made me want to come back.
We came here with our family of 12 people. We loved everything. The dishes were unique, the lamb melted in our mouths, and the fish was fresh and juicy. Despite the crowd, the staff handled everything smoothly. The bread deserves a special mention — it reminded us of home, the village, and childhood. Wishing you all the best and continued success!
It was such a refreshing visit to the restaurant that i cant stop myself to write these comments. Highly recommended for the food, the atmosphere and service. Must visit. The lady with the smile to warmly welcome you was the beginning and the yemeni sundae was a great end to our today's visit.
Yemenat, Brooklyn ⭐⭐⭐ ⭐ ⭐ I recently visited Yemenat in Brooklyn and tried a few of their dishes, including the Lamb Haneeth, Chicken Haneeth, and Hummus. Overall, the experience was very positive and worth sharing. Food: The food came out surprisingly fast—within about 5 minutes of placing the order. At first, I thought it might have been prepared ahead of time, but the flavor and freshness said otherwise. Both the Lamb Haneeth and Chicken Haneeth were tender, juicy, and well-seasoned, cooked to perfection with that authentic Yemeni flavor. The Hummus was smooth, creamy, and paired perfectly with the bread. The portions were generous, making it a great value for the price. Service & Atmosphere: When we entered, a staff member immediately greeted us, asked how many guests were in our party, and seated us right away. The ordering process was smooth, and the service felt efficient without being rushed. The interior of the restaurant is clean, well-kept, and inviting—an excellent spot for both lunch and dinner with family or friends. Location & Parking: The restaurant is in a convenient location. On Sundays, parking is plentiful and easy to find, but on weekdays you’ll need to use the meter. Price & Value: For the quality and the quantity of food, the prices are very reasonable. Each dish offers enough to satisfy a group, making it a good choice if you’re dining with others. Overall Experience: Yemenat is a restaurant I would recommend to anyone looking for authentic Yemeni cuisine in Brooklyn. While it’s not a place I would visit weekly, it’s definitely worth coming back to once in a while when you want a hearty, flavorful meal in a nice setting. The combination of quick service, delicious food, and fair prices makes it a spot that stands out.
The food is wonderful, amazing tasting, authentic, and extremely delicious. You'll notice there is no salt and pepper on the table because the chefs give you the food perfect the first time. I promise you won't leave disappointed with the quality. The soup, rice, and meat—everything is well cooked and seasoned. The yellow broth they serve with lime is amazing; you can drink it or dip the bread, rice, and meat in it. We also had the shredded beef stew which is perfect for dipping. The bread is fresh and delicious with everything. Don't be afraid to get messy here because that's the authentic way to eat. Just eat with your hands (and a fork sometimes, lmao) and just wash after. It doesn't make sense to eat this food without the bread and dipping it in everything. We finished with their signature dessert. It is shaped like a big donut but the dough is warm and flaky like a croissant. It comes with a cold cream sauce on top—the mix is so good you almost don't want to stop eating. The service is good, and it’s very comfortable at 3:30 when it isn't too busy. The only suggestion I have is that they need to add some coat hangers somewhere. Aside from that, it was a perfect meal!
Food was outstanding. Incredibly rich in flavor and I think I had 5 cups of the tea. We went during lunch on a Friday and it got busy, I recommend a reservation. Service was friendly but they forgot to wait on us, then they forgot to put in a dish and a drink. We never received the dish and had to flag them down for the drink. Hoping it’ll improve more!
Yemenat Cafe in Bay Ridge, Brooklyn, was absolutely amazing! The staff was incredibly attentive, making the experience feel warm and welcoming—just like being at home. The food was A+, easily the freshest Yemeni cuisine I’ve ever had. Every dish tasted like it was made from the heart, with tradition and care in every bite. A true gem I’ll definitely be returning to!
The food at Yemenat is absolutely amazing - a real gem in the neighborhood like no other. Every meal is a treat for the taste buds, full of fresh ingredients and great flavors. I’ve tried most of the menu, including the muva fish, chicken fahem, lamb haneeth, kebdah lamb liver, and my personal favorite, shafoot. From the bread and rice to the dessert sundae and tea, everything has been delicious. The team here is really kind and attentive. You can tell the owners put their heart and passion into what they do. I’ll definitely be back soon, and if you haven’t been yet, I highly recommend giving it a try!
Yemenat was an amazing experience! I went with my college friend for the first time and we both loved it! The atmosphere and ambience is very cozy, clean and aesthetically pleasing. The hostess was very hospitable and came to check on our table multiple times and explained each dish to us. She also offered us complementary tea which was delicious. When my friend and I asked the hostess if she could take a photo of us to remember the occasion, she kindly agreed. The food was incredible!! My favorites were the Beef Fahsa and the Hummus. I will be bringing my friends and family here. Cannot recommend enough!
One of my favorite restaurants in the city. I catered from here for an iftar and they helped organize a great meal for us. We were hosting close to 60 people and the portions, pricing, and food were all amazing. All my guests went out of their way to compliment the food and mentioned it was some of the best food they have had here in nyc. Service was great and personal to the point where the chef himself took care of me! I’m looking forward to eating here again soon
I had an amazing experience at Yemenat Restaurant! The food was absolutely delicious — especially the lamb haneeth, so tender and full of flavor. The portions were generous, and everything tasted authentic and fresh. The staff were super friendly and welcoming, they made me feel at home and even explained some of the traditional dishes. The place has a cozy vibe and smells incredible as soon as you walk in.
I don’t need to tell you that everything I ordered here was delicious but I will anyway! I had the shafoot, lime juice, lamb haneeth, and sabaya. Everything was amazing, but the sabaya was definitely the highlight. It completely blew me away! Im still thinking about it days later! Highly recommend this place!
I have been four times to Yemenat and this is truly the best Yemeni food I've had across California, DC, and NY. The quality is consistent, elaborate, and elegant. The Haneeth (both Lamb and Chicken) are masterful. If going for brunch, do not miss out on the Foule. Now I know they proudly claim they make authentic Yemeni food (and they absolutely do), but what's inspiring is their attempts at creating dishes rooted in Yemeni cuisine and incorporating elements from other cuisines. The Bent Al-Sahn dessert they just created is otherwordly. TRY IT! Course recommendation: start with Maraq (of course!). Then bring in the Shafoot. After that bring in the main course (I recommend the Haneeth) but you really can't go wrong with the other dishes. Eat the main course with a pomegranate or Zabeeb drink. Lastly, if you still have room, take a bite of Bent Al-Sahn.
I came to New York from Germany and had Yemenat at the very top of my list, and it did not disappoint! The food was absolutely delicious, traditional Yemeni dishes served in a modern and creative way. The highlight for me was (the Yemeni sundae) ice cream with nuts, caramel, and Yemeni spices, such a unique flavor and crunch, I’ve never had anything like it. From the moment I walked in, the staff were incredibly welcoming and made sure I felt at home. The atmosphere is great too, with traditional Yemeni music in the background that really adds to the experience. For anyone taking the subway, the restaurant is super accessible, just hop on the Yellow R train and get off at 77 St. Overall, amazing food, warm hospitality, and a vibe that makes you want to come back. Definitely a must visit in NYC!
My sister in law recommended this place because she fell in love with the food after one visit. The food is absolutely phenomenal. We tried Shafoot, Chips Adani, and Hummus as appetizers. The Shafoot has such a fresh herby unique taste, it was my favorite of the three apps. Not gonna lie, when we first got the Chips Adani, my first thought was “these are just fries with sauce”, but after trying it I wanted to drink the sauce. And of course you can’t go wrong with Hummus. I liked the green herb sauce and pomegranate seeds, it was a great way to make their hummus stand out. After delicious apps, we knew we HAD to try one of each protein for entrees. We had Muva Fish, Chicken Fahem, for the lamb we asked the server for their recommendation. We also got another dish but I can’t remember the name, but also amazing. All the food was sooooo good. I definitely recommend the Aseer Leem, everyone at our table agreed it was an amazing drink. I also tried the Adani tea, it’s perfect if you like spiced tea.
Best place for Arabic food in NY city. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Yemenat is one of the best spots for authentic Yemeni food! The rice was fragrant and perfectly cooked, both chicken and lamb were juicy and full of flavor. Portions are generous, and they also served with Salad. Leem Juice is a must , fresh and refreshing. They are offering complimentary tea, which really completes the experience after great meal. The Place very clean with comfortable seats and atmosphere The staff are very welcoming and friendly, passion about the work and the experience , thanks a lot for making the whole visit enjoyable. Definitely I’ll keep coming back to for delicious and authentic Yemeni and Arabic dishes!”
During my travels, I’ve enjoyed countless meals and visited many recommended (and not-so-recommended) spots. But by far, this has to be the best Mediterranean restaurant, and I must add—a proud Yamani cousin’s gem. Clean, friendly staff, and an award-winning menu—no wonder they made the Michelin recognition for 2025. Dare to find another Yamani cousin that comes close to this one. One thing that caught my attention: there were no salt and pepper shakers on the tables. Not that we needed them—it’s just something we’ve grown used to seeing at restaurants. When we asked, the staff politely offered to bring fresh salt and pepper grinders to the table. But with such a flawless recipe, there was nothing that needed fixing. Keep it up—absolutely outstanding!
Tried this Yemeni restaurant today and it was such a great experience! We had rice with lamb and fish, hummus, and salad – everything was fresh and full of flavor. The manager and waiter were so kind and welcoming, which made the visit even better. Definitely a place I’ll come back to 😍😍😍😍😍
Yemenat delivers an outstanding dining experience from start to finish. The food, service, atmosphere, and cleanliness were all exceptional, and everything we ordered was full of flavor and beautifully prepared. 🍽️ Food Quality Every dish was excellent and authentically prepared. We ordered: • Beef Fahsa • Lamb Haneeth • Hummus • Rashoosh (fresh Yemeni bread) Drinks: • Fresh pomegranate juice • Aseer Leem (mint lemon drink) The meats were tender and deeply flavorful. The bread was fresh and paired perfectly with the dishes. The drinks were refreshing and clearly made with care. Everything tasted fresh, balanced, and authentic. 👨🍳 Service Customer service was excellent. The staff was welcoming, attentive, and genuinely kind. Many staff members speak Arabic, which is a big plus in this neighborhood and very helpful for Arabic-speaking guests. Communication was smooth, respectful, and professional. 🏠 Atmosphere & Cleanliness The restaurant is beautifully designed, warm, and inviting. The dining area is clean, well organized, and comfortable. The bathroom was exceptionally clean, including no unpleasant odor, which always reflects strong attention to hygiene and detail. 🥗 Vegetarian Options There is a dedicated vegetarian section on the menu. Options like hummus, vegetable dishes, and sides are clearly listed and well prepared. Vegetarians will find good choices here. 🥘 Dietary Considerations The staff is knowledgeable about ingredients and helpful if you have dietary questions. Dishes are freshly prepared and customizable where possible. 🚗 Parking Parking can be somewhat difficult, as this is a busy area. Options include: • Paid street parking nearby Plan a little extra time if arriving during peak hours. 👶 Kid-Friendliness The restaurant is suitable for families. Spacious seating and a calm environment make it comfortable for children. ♿ Wheelchair Accessibility The restaurant is wheelchair accessible. There is sidewalk access that allows entry into the restaurant, and the interior layout is manageable for mobility needs. ✅ Final Recommendation Yemenat is one of the best Yemeni dining experiences I have had. Authentic food, outstanding service, a clean and welcoming environment, and thoughtful attention to detail make this place truly special. I would highly recommend Yemenat and will absolutely be returning.
oh wow this was maybe a top 10 meal all time. salad: really nice balanced salt and vinegar-y flavor with onion cutting through lamb: slow cooked is the way to go. falls off the bone tender and moist throughout and very flavorful even serve the lamb in a lamb soup of sorts you get your own bowl of the soup on the side bread: perfect bread that comes out warm and crispy hummus: not standout but good when paired with everything shakshuka: really deep flavor on this one with lots of onions not tomato soupy bent assahn: they comp’d us this dessert because of the service but this was maybe the best dessert I’ve ever had at a restaurant ordered for 2 and had little leftovers waitstaff seemed unorganized; they forgot to give us menus, forgot our water, and sent out our main dish before the appetizers. They did comp us with maybe the best dessert i’ve ever had though. All of that for $64 is ridiculous value
Stopped to pick up food for the second time and they didn’t not disappoint. Food always delicious and tasteful. Very generous portions which is also a plus. The roasted lamb with rice was cooked tender and perfect touch with spices . Roasted chicken was also tender and juicy. French fries were fresh and delicious with the adeni sauce. And their bread always so good! Worth the one hour drive all the time.
A wonderful Michelin Bib Gourmand Yemeni restaurant in Bayridge. The large shafoot makes great platform to enjoy bubbling beef fahsa and the other dishes. Muva whole branzino came out tend on top and crispy on the skin , Lamb haneeth a little tougher than I expected. The dishes came out fast and hot, waiter kept waters refilled and we all tried the complimentary hot beverage. A great delicious inexpensive spot to take your family to.
It was our first time trying a Yemeni restaurant, and we were very impressed. The food was incredibly flavorful, bold, and colorful. I especially loved the Hadrami rice. The Chicken Haneeth, a traditional Yemeni dish with tender, slow-cooked chicken marinated in aromatic spices, was excellent. I highly recommend making a reservation, as the restaurant is popular. We’ve visited twice on weekends, and both times it was full and crowded; otherwise, the wait time can be around an hour. The space and number of tables are limited. Portions are very generous — we couldn’t finish everything and took some food home. The pomegranate drink was also great. The only downside is if you’re seated near the entrance — every time the door opens, cold air comes in, which can be uncomfortable in winter. Installing a small vestibule or air curtain at the entrance would really help during winter.
The staff at Yemenat were so gracious with me and my friend! We were a walk-in on a very busy day and still managed to get a table after a very short wait. The ambiance was warm and lively. The food was something to write home about! Absolutely rich and delicious! I had the lamb haneeth and the beef fahsa. Talk about flavor! I wish my stomach could take it all in, but the portions were so generous. Just when I thought it couldn’t get any better? I got dessert: The bent assahan was out of this world! Light, flaky, buttery. My goodness. Thank you so much Yemenat for a remarkable meal.
One of the best restaurants we’ve tried in NY! So so recommended. The young waiter was kind, knowledgeable and professional. The kitchen delivers exquisite meals very quickly and you barely wait. The atmosphere is warm and welcoming. You have unlimited homemade hot chai, which is ideal during winter. We strongly recommend trying and supporting this place. We will come back!
The restaurant is located in the Bay Ridge section of Brooklyn. They prepare food from the country of Yemen which is a small country in the Middle East. The food is similar to other Mediterranean cuisine. I ordered the Maraq Yemeni soup which is low cost but is basically a plain, watery broth. The Aqdah chicken was prepared with strips of chicken similar to a casserole. The Fahsa beef was a stew with strips of beef. The food was accompanied by a complimentary large piece of bread. The bread was similar to a large pita bread but was hard to eat and chewy. I also tried the dessert which was a small mini pie. It consisted of water, sugar, peanuts, canola oil, nutmeg and cardamom. I was disappointed that with this large order of food there was no rice included. Friendly and helpful staff.
The food was good and fresh, we got haneeth, fahsa, marag, some hummus, ashar, chai adeni. The lady waiter was very nice. Table was a small for all the food even if we had we ordered just one entree. Felt like we had to eat everything crammed up. wish they gave us a bigger table would have made our experience so much better.
I had a wonderful 4-star experience at Yemenat! Both the service and atmosphere were absolute standouts, each earning a perfect 5-star rating. The food was also high quality with a solid 3-star rating. It is a fantastic local spot for a great visit in a perfect environment!
December 22, 2024. After seeing Christmas decorations in Dyker Heights on a freezing night, we went to this place as a group of 3. Without a reservation, we waited inside for 15 minutes for a table. Limited but clearly marked vegetarian options. The food is very tasty! 1. Shafooq - This Yemeni dish can be described in an Indian way very easily. It was like a thick dosai/oothappam (South Indian dish) drenched in buttermilk that is flavoured like a `mint chutney' (the one given along with North Indian tandoori starters), garnished with pomegranates. There were a lot of holes in the dosai as if to absorb more of the buttermilk. This was marked as an appetizer and was cold. It was delicious, but, I would've liked it better in room temperature. 2. Mushakal furn mix veggies - The waiter recommended this item when I asked for vegetarian options. In the picture displayed in the restaurant, it looked like a vegetable salad. But, it turned out to be a mélange of well-fried finely cut vegetables---lots of potato, small quantity of carrot, brinjal, capsicum etc.---which was so soft to chew and yummy. The downside was that it was extremely oily and visibly unhealthy. I ate this with a sesame-garnished naan which was also oily. 3. Areeka - This is a very filling dessert with a lot of carbs and mild sweetness. It is closer to an Indian dessert which is usually wholesome (sakkarai pongal for example) with traditional sweeteners (honey in this dish, jaggery in sakkarai pongal), than an European/American dessert that typically tends to be some variation of a cake with refined sugar as the sweetener. 4. There was complementary tea in a vessel in the corner that everyone can just go and get some. I drank two cups of it. It was dark, watery (no milk), doubtfully sweet, immensely flavourful in terms of spices used, reminiscent of a similar tea served in a South Indian wedding a few years ago. Overall, the tastes were very familiar and close to several Indian dishes and weren't very new to me, this was a a big plus point. Beyond these, my friends had a chicken with rice and a fish dish, and they liked both of them very much. There's not much vegetarian options/dishes left for visiting this place again, it's a good one-time visit to try out a different cuisine. The prices were also slightly on the higher side.
I saw the amazing reviews online and thought I needed to try this place before I left New York. Walked in and it’s small, but not too tiny. When we walked in, they had oud burning, and it was a really nice OUD. We ordered chicken and lamb, haneeth For dessert, we got Areeka With the mail, we had the traditional tea that’s complementary. The salad was a nice starter. The lamb and the chicken and rice were all really delicious. The dessert was not as good as I would’ve liked. It’s usually made with a nice thick, sweet cream, but this one was made with just whipped cream. It was a little dry. The waiters were really nice and polite. The only thing I would change is the Areeka. It’s one of my favorite things to order at a Yemini restaurant and it was definitely not up to par with the rest of the food we had that was amazing.
Yemanat serves some of the best Middle Eastern food I’ve had. The lamb is outstanding tender, juicy, and full of flavor, easily the highlight of the meal. The chicken and fresh bread were also delicious, with generous portions that are perfect for sharing. The rice with fried onions and nuts adds a great touch.
08/19/2025 I want to provide an update to my previous review. I went back to Yemenat and addressed the issue directly with the manager. After discussing it, we determined that the stomach upset I experienced was due to the type of vinegar used in the salad dressing, not the overall food preparation or safety. I truly appreciate how seriously the team took my concern and the professional way they handled it. On my return visit, I ordered their Fahsa, which was absolutely delicious and truly astonishing. I’m glad I gave Yemenat another chance and look forward to dining there again. ////////////// 07/04/2025 It wasn’t a happy 4th of July for me, credit goes to Yemenat 😤 Dinner that’s “ literally brought back the worst memories in Yemen “ I feel so bad writing this review as I was a big fan of Yemanat, even though their prices are way overpriced, but to pay more and get sick as a bonus was not what I expected.. , 8:30pm I ordered to go “ Sanani kabab, Burma with rice and nuts, and Areka for dessert “ Long story short, after eating the kabab and Burma, my wife and I ended up with bloated stomach and colicky stapping abdominal pain 😢. Don’t know if it was the tomato blend that came with the Kabab, or the sour white sauce which also came as a side sauce with it. This will be the end chapter of Yemanat for me .
Don’t get dessert, not sweet and tasted like breakfast mush, but everything else is outstanding. We went three days after it received a stellar review in the NYTimes, so they were overwhelmed and understaffed. The service suffered. I hope that is remedied. The owner was behind the cash register all night. He should have been more personable and helpful. Greeting guests would have gone a long way to make us feel better when we waited 30 minutes for water and another 30 before we called the server over to ask to see the dessert menu. You won’t need dessert because you will be thoroughly stuffed on the most delicious Middle Eastern food I have ever had. I cannot wait to go back. There were seven of us, so we tried many things.
Let me start off with the main dish which was lamb haneeth. It was absolutely delicious and the lamb was so tender and juicy. The rice was so fluffy and flavorful. It’s a good serving for two people. We also got the hummus with the flatbread. Although the flatbread was crispy and tasty, the hummus was disappointing. It was very thick and lacked flavor. The adeni chai was perfect as well.
To be honest, the food wasn’t as good as the presentation of the food. We got the kebab Sanani , it was just like oven made meatballs, we tried the Mushakkal Furn, and it wasn’t even cooked, a bunch of veggies stacked together in a pretty way. The Fahsah had a sweet flavor in it. And the only thing we enjoyed was the lamb Haneeth
I came here a few hours ago after hearing great things and had high expectations. Unfortunately, my experience was very disappointing. I ordered the chicken haneeth; while the salad was fine, the rice was extremely cold and crunchy, as if it hadn’t been cooked properly. The chicken itself was also cold and undercooked. I tried a few bites but couldn’t eat any more. The kitchen needs to take more responsibility for what they send out. We’re paying for a good experience, not to risk getting poisoned. This was not the experience I was expecting,
I CAME HERE TO EAT LIKE SIX MONTHS AGO AND THE FOOD WAS AMAZING. IT WAS SO GOOD AUTHENTIC YEMENI FOOD. I CAME BACK LAST WEEK AND I ORDERED FOOD WITH MY FRIEND. THE FOOD WAS SO BAD. I IMMEDIATELY FELT NAUSEOUS AFTER EATING. I WAS SHOCKED THAT THIS IS YEMENAT RESTAURANT I DON’T KNOW WHAT HAPPENED. MAYBE THEY CHANGED THE CHEF OR SOMETHING BUT THEIR AREKA IS SO BAD AS YOU CAN SEE THE PICTURE BELOW TOO MUCH BUTTER THEIR HANEED SO BAD KABAB TO SALTY I DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS PLACE TO BE HONEST YOU WILL REGRET EATING HERE.
⭐️⭐️ | 😕 Not Satisfied In my experience, I visited the restaurant to purchase Bint Al-Sahn for takeout. Upon arrival, I ordered several pieces and asked for them to be placed in a container to go, but I was informed that the item was available for dine-in only. I had previously ordered the same item through a delivery app, however the staff stated that takeout was not available. The interaction felt unwelcoming. I hope the restaurant can improve communication and clearly clarify its takeout policy for customers in the future.
