We were here last night for my birthday dinner, and now I want to rave about this place to everyone. Not only is the space beautifully designed, but the food and service were impeccable. Every member of staff was courteous and warm, and Chef Yuu was so lovely and gracious. The sommelier even gave us a little extra port to go with my complimentary slice of birthday cake. I highly recommend this place for any special occasion—it’s a real treat!
Probably one of the best meals of my life. I had high expectations and almost every dish surpassed it. My experience was a lot like that food critic from Ratatouille. This was an especially welcome moment of respite for my friends after a recent tragedy to feel really taken care of. Can't recommend it enough
1. This was everything we wanted it to be. 2. The hype is worthwhile. 3. Do NOT pregame for this meal. The sommelier is the most generous pourer I have ever encountered in my life. 4. Allow more time than you need to to get here. We were 15 minutes late due to traffic and we planned on being 30 minutes early. We were so embarrassed. They waited for us, but the first few courses were rushed -- our fault. 5. Every single course was a home run. Every single course. 6. Book through Chase dining. 7. Again, do NOT drink alcohol before you get there if you are ordering the wine pairing. I want this sommelier for every meal I have, forever. 8. Again, everyone is awesome and it's everything you want it to be.
Ok, yes, I got sucked in through the Youtube feature of Restaurant Yuu and watched it from start to finish. When i got a rez, i booked a flight, yet I'm still at a loss of words on this review. I came in with high expectations, and they were all exceeded. The food was amazing, and the entire team took the time to explain each of the ingredients. The wine pairing was on point and elevated the entire experience. Through and through, it was an awesome meal, and the food was spectacular. If you're wondering about the duck wellington, it's fantastic. Book it, enjoy it. You're welcome.
@restaurant_yuunyc . . One of the best restaurant experiences I’ve ever had. Without realizing it, the entire experience was nearly 3 hours. It was entertaining throughout. I love watching cooking shows and if you know me, I also love to cook as well… . It was like a show, not so much a competition. You get to see your meal cooked and prepped right in front of your eyes… every dish was presented to you and described in detail what the dish you were about to indulge in… . I won’t go into detail of the menu items, there won’t be enough room for the 15 course meal… although mine was 16 with the addition of the caviar… . Everything was so elevated and delicious. So much flavor and textures.. I can see why @yuushimano got a @michelinguide star!! Well deserved!!! . The staff was exceptional, your glass of water was always full!! . I couldn’t have asked for a better bday meal, and getting me the best seat in the house
Grateful to have such a fun, unique restaurant at this caliber in NYC. Not the same old Michelin tricks but truly expressive and unique in Chef Yuu’s and his creative team’s vision. It’s exciting to see how last year’s dinner has evolved and the fun collaboration he’s been hosting. Also, big shout out to head Somm Akio flexing his creative genius in both wine and sake pairings. A true fine dining gem of NYC.
Everything about this meal was perfection. Absolutely stunning dishes, with the highest quality ingredients. The service is so attentive and perfectly coordinated across all guests. Probably one of the most perfect meals I’ve ever experienced.
Went today and had one of the best meals of my life. Along with the best customer service I’ve ever experienced. I cannot thank the staff enough for providing such memorable food and experience. I got the half of the wine and sake pairing, and look forward to coming back. Everything was worth it. Thank you.
We went for our anniversary and had an amazing experience. The wine pairing and food were both fantastic. This was a memorable meal, would definitely go again.
I absolutely love this restaurant. Chef Yuu, along with the other chefs and staff, is very friendly. It’s hard to find a place in NY where you can enjoy classic French cuisine. This restaurant offers a wonderful experience with a touch of Japanese delicacy and precision, along with unique Japanese ingredients. I also discovered the excellence of wine pairings here; the synergy between the food and wine makes everything even more delicious. The final dessert is outstanding as well. I can’t wait to go back!
The food was great and the assistance was amazing. They familiarize the courses with you and tell you definitively what you're eating and how it's made and you can see how your food is being made. The whole spot is incredibly wonderful the music is very tone-setting. Around the end, the connoisseur expert even gave us something to bring back home and walked us out the entrance.😘😘👍👍
The French cuisine was absolutely exquisite. Each dish showcased the delicate and intricate flavors unique to a Japanese chef, beautifully plated like treasures in a jewelry box. It was an experience where dining felt as captivating as enjoying a musical performance. The atmosphere of the restaurant was equally unique. A long counter table took center stage, and at the start of the meal, a curtain covering the kitchen was drawn back, revealing the chefs and signaling the beginning of the dining experience.
One of the best tasting menu meals I’ve had in quite some time. My friend and I had a wonderful experience. Portions were just perfect. 16 courses and even the bread course was amazing - the softest bread yet with great crust. The lamb and duck Wellington was the perfect conclusion to the savory course. The pear dessert had my friend and I asking where did they source this incredible pear in the middle of winter?? Don’t hesitate, book yourself a reservation and enjoy!
I've visited several times, even before they received their Michelin star. I’m thrilled to find such authentic French cuisine in Greenpoint, Brooklyn! Every course, from the amuse-bouche to dessert, is absolutely delicious, and I also enjoy the wine pairings they offer. Previously, the portions were quite large, and I often had to request smaller portions partway through, which was a bit disappointing. However, recently, while the number of courses hasn’t changed, they’ve improved the balance between the amuse-bouche and main dishes. Now, I can enjoy the full portions along with everyone else until the very end. I’ll definitely be back!
They offer a delightful fusion of French and Japanese culinary techniques, resulting in dishes that are not only exquisite but also incredibly delicate. The flavors are outstanding, and they consistently use seasonal ingredients, which why I would love to visit there again soon. The wine pairings are Good exceptional, and the attention to detail in both service and the presentation of dishes creates a beautiful atmosphere. While the tasting menu may not be cheap for everyone, it's undoubtedly a worthwhile dining experience that offers great value. I will def go back!
By far one of the best dining experiences I have had, the food was not only unique and delicious, the staff were also incredibly friendly and attentive. Every dish I have was outstanding, but I would like to highlight the Unagi dish being so well thought out and flavorful and the Madai dish for being so well put together. There is no doubt we will be back to see what Chef Yuu will put together in the future.
I went here for my birthday. It was an amazing experience. All the dishes were delicious and beautiful. The service was impeccable. I loved that they have a half wine paring option as I generally feel a full wine pairing is too much alcohol - the pairing themselves were very on point too. The desserts and pastries were delicious - the melon dessert in particular was so unique and tasty. All in all, a great experience and highly recommended. I’m pretty sure they will eventually get a Michelin star(s).
Excellent experience, excellent food, excellent service - exceeds expectations. I really loved the presentation of the food both before and after preparation, Chef Yuu has a great taste in the selection of seasonal ingredients and putting them together to make delights to the taste buds. The menu price is definitely worth it compared with a lot of other Michelin two restaurants in New York. Keep up with the great work!
The ambiance is elegant and refined. The space, with its modern interior, creates a beautiful setting for a special occasion.
The food was truly excellent! We were originally fans of Mifune, and Restaurant Yuu is even better. There were so many inspiring dishes that tasted amazing. There was so much variety across so many dishes (14+), and you could tell every detail was meticulously crafted. The space and atmosphere is beautiful. The staff and service was also extremely attentive. I came in on crutches, and they were very accommodating of my injury. I would recommend this restaurant to anyone!
My favorite restaurant of 2024! I was so pleasantly surprised when I first came here in October. I'm so happy I found this place after randomly browsing on Youtube and seeing a feature on their canard dish. To say it was delicious is an understatement. Maybe RICH is the correct word, in every sense of the word. Everything at Yuu is fantastic from the dinnerware to the presentation of the foods. Most importantly, the heart and soul of the restaurant- the staff. Everyone from Yuu-san to Annie and the sommelier are knowledgeable, friendly, and true professionals. I sing the praises of the restaurant to everyone I come across and I will continue to do so! Here's to many happy returns in 2025!
Superb. I am rarely impressed with most of any menu from a restaurant, so I was pleasantly surprised to have my expectations exceeded when we ate at Restaurant Yuu. It was very memorable, with the presentation-focused and performance aspect of the dinner and the attentiveness to detail. I very much appreciated that a whole section of the kitchen was open and intended to be viewed, and they specifically showcased certain aspects of the meal being prepared, such as the lobster being taken apart and also the grand reveal of the Canard pastry main course. The presentation was beautiful in the dineware they chose and were well-suited to the theme and artistic nature of the meal. The service was very good, and the staff were friendly and accommodating. The counter style of the restaurant and overall ambiance are very clean, contemporary, and professional. The personality of the restaurant fits well within the Greenpoint neighborhood. And most importantly, the food was very enjoyable. I loved how innovative some of the dishes were in their flavors and combinations. The European influence is so interestingly mixed with the Japanese elements, the flavors are bold yet still delicately considered, a true mixture of cultures, techniques and experiences. I'm excited to bring others here and also try other seasonal menus in the future.
Incredible. From start to finish..... incredible. The attention to details, food, service and even the wine selection... incredible. The owner/ executive chef pays attention to details. He goes out of his way to make the customers feel welcome. Will be back for more! Thank you.
It was incredible, we had dinner on the night of the 10th, it was too special for our friend since it was her birthday, every detail, every attention, everything was incredible on the part of the entire team, I am amazed to find places with so much quality in NYC, they all deserve a 10 because they were uniquely genuine, amazing, the dinner was 100 out of 10 and everything that accompanied it, the place is very cozy, it makes you feel at home, I hope to return soon, thank you very much for the good evening, all the recognition is due.!!!!!
Just experienced the new menu at Restaurant Yuu! 🍴✨ A perfect balance of seafood and meat 🐟🥩, breathtaking presentation 🎨, and caviar piled so high it almost couldn’t fit in my mouth 💎😍. During the main course, uplifting music filled the room 🎶, while every pairing drink was something truly special 🍷✨. Delicious dishes, exceptional drinks, and a theatrical touch… it was truly a total work of art. 🎭💫
We've been to Restaurant Yuu 3 times since last year. The dishes are very delicate and delicious, the combo of ingredients and sauce are just genius - especially the appetizers. You can tell Chef Yuu has been actively innovating the menu, so every time we went we got to taste something new! Wine pairing is also very much on point. Environment is perfect as well. Very spacious place and I absolutely adore after dinner part when each party is led to the lounge area and enjoy tea and snacks. This certainly adds an intimate touch to the whole experience.
We had a very pleasant evening with my son at this restaurant. The setting is elegant yet relaxed, with a beautiful counter reminiscent of an omakase bar, allowing you to admire the precision and artistry of the staff at work. The menu strikes a perfect balance between revisited classics—such as the duck pie—and refined dishes showcasing the chef’s technique. My two favorites were the grilled unagi and the delicately steamed fish, each paired with richly textured sauces that revealed both depth and the chef's background. Desserts were light and refreshing, a perfect conclusion to the meal. The menu is thoughtfully concise, allowing you to savor each dish without feeling overwhelmed. A special mention goes to the sommelier, who curated an excellent selection of wines by the glass. We particularly enjoyed two Burgundy wines, standing apart from the usual big names. All in all, a highly recommended dining experience—elegant atmosphere, precise cooking, and a sense of refined yet approachable hospitality. Merci Chef!
What an unforgettable dinning experience here at Restaurant Yuu. The creative fusion/French food here is wonderfully presented and amazingly delicious! Chef Yuu and his great team makes some very original and super delicious gastronomic surprises. The 3 course amuse bouche already has my palate interested. The optional caviar, a huge chunk of it, is juicy and tasteful. Then the uni/shirako risotto combo brings a pleasant surprise and complicated texture and taste. The main dishes are mackeral, venison, duck (done Wellington - style with a cool presentation from the chef) and pork (very tender and flavorful). Then the 2 desserts are light and refreshing. After we are done dining, our friendly hostess Annie sits us at the couch near the dinning counter and presents some additional finishing sweets and ginger tea. The entire dining experience and pace here are streamlined, smooth, swift and well organized. Last but not least, the impeccable service, the bright and uplifting setting and decor, the particular selection of unique Japanese dinerware, all of which makes the whole dining experience feel more like appreciating an art rather than simply eating food. I will definitely be back for more and bringing everyone that I know to eat here.
I had a wonderful dinner last night with someone very special. As the evening began, the curtain of the open kitchen rose, and it felt like watching a Broadway musical, with the chefs moving dynamically on stage. The champagne and wine, carefully selected by a top-level sommelier, paired perfectly with the exquisite dishes. The Japanese owner-chef, a rare presence in New York, presented both creative cuisine and refined traditional French dishes. This is truly the best Michelin-starred restaurant to bring someone important to.
I had an incredibly wonderful experience at this restaurant! The food was absolutely delicious, and every bite was a burst of flavor. The service was flawless, with attentive staff who went above and beyond to ensure our dining pleasure. The overall experience was worth every penny, and I highly recommend giving this place a try. It's definitely deserving of its price, and you won't be disappointed!
Unforgettable $100pp 4-course dessert tasting menu by Executive Pastry Chef Masaki Takahashi with thoughtful tea pairings for each course by Sommelier Akio Matsumoto. Service Manager Annie Wu and the entire Restaurant Yuu team were exceptionally friendly and accommodating. Restaurant Yuu surpasses all expectations and stands out even among other Michelin-starred establishments with its omotenashi service philosophy and imaginative dishes.
The food was great and the service was amazing!!!! They introduce the courses to you and tell you exactly what youre eating and how its made and you can see how your food is being made. The whole place is very clean the music is very tone setting. At the end the chef even gave us something to take home and walked us out the door.
We had high expectations before our visit to Chef Yuu’s newly open restaurant. It’s overall delicate and the portion was more than enough. ✔️A5 Wagyu Sea Urchin Wagyu beef and uni melted in mouth. It’s flavorful and appetizing with a little spice. ✔️ Vichyssoise This might be the best Vichyssoise we have ever had. It’s extremely smooth and not greasy at all. ✔️Poireaux Vinaigrette It’s one of the most beautiful dishes among 19 courses tonight. The leek was refreshing with decent sauce. ✔️Duck Duck Wellington is one of the most signature dishes at Restaurant Yuu. Its cooked perfectly and delicious with mushroom & Foie Gras. ✔️Neclarine The soufflé was soft and fluffy with rich Almond ice cream. I personally don’t like the peach compote but it’s still a impressive ending of this meal.
Amazing restaurant, food, and service!! Came here for my husband’s birthday. Decided on the short menu as we wanted to stay low key. We sat at the bar, just the 2 of us and we felt so special in our intimate setting. We are both chefs that come from high end restaurants and highly recommend this restaurant…the love and passion that goes into serving the best food and giving amazing service is so apparent. Thank you all for making this day special…❤️
Firstly, this is undoubtedly the finest French-Japanese restaurant I’ve experienced. While it is on the pricier side, the sophisticated decor and unique atmosphere make it well worth it. The food is absolutely stunning, each dish a true work of art. However, the number of courses can be overwhelming. I think reducing it to around seven or eight courses would make for a more memorable experience, as it’s difficult to fully appreciate and remember each dish when there are so many. Since I don’t take photos of my food, it can be challenging to recall every detail. That said, a few dishes stood out, particularly the lamb steak and the first appetizer, a trio of one-bite wonders. The mille-feuille is my favorite dessert here. Thank you—I will definitely be returning.
One of the best meals I had in 2023, worthy of 2 stars. I was a big fan of Chef Yuu's French Japanese cuisine at Mifune, and it's wonderful to see his new stage here. Tableside presentations, premium ingredients and nice pairings. Stunning dining room and surprising for Greenpoint.
Absolutely loved Restaurant Yuu! Went for my Mom and Dad's anniversary and the attention to detail was spectacular. My dad who is not typically a tasting menu person, thoroughly enjoyed the meal with its' asian sensibilities, but new flavor profiles. Favorites of the night have to be the sunchoke risotto with unagi & foie gras, the caviar supplement, the lamb, & of course the canard. After the meal, the kitchen was gracious enough to bring my parents out a small anniversary cake and allowed us to take a photo with Chef Yuu! If you're also a big foodie, you'll see @madebymusashi and other chefs diligently at work in the open kitchen which is always a treat. Take your loved ones here to spoil them and their taste buds!!
Like many of the reviewers here, we needed a good reason to pay Restaurant Yuu a visit. For us, it was our anniversary. Have been reading and watching experiences all over social media and decide that this was the place to celebrate our special day. Service: Super attentive and friendly (our cups were never empty) Presentation: Modern and clean aesthetic (there’s also a lounge area behind us where we took after meal pictures and had complementary tea with confectioneries) Food: Amazing use of Japanese ingredients with French techniques. Absolutely delicious! (Highlights for us was the surf clam and mussel!) Believe the hype, this should be the standard for Michelin star restaurants. And in my opinion the next two stars are not that far of a stretch for Restaurant Yuu. Thank you to all the staff and chefs for making this night a special one for us!!! (P.S thanks for taking pictures with us chef Yuu and Musashi, fanboying from watch videos on YouTube and Instagram!)
I have to say, for $250pp, this is easily the best value you'll find for an upscale dinner in NYC. Let's break down this adventure: 1) Consommé: We kicked things off with a beef and lobster consommé that was so rich, it's like they distilled the very essence of luxury and poured it into a bowl. 2) Ikura: Next up, we rode the waves of flavor with the ikura. It was like a flavor explosion in our mouths, and we were the happy victims. 3) Mussel: Then came the mussel, wrapped in a shiso leaf tempura blanket, with pickled fennel and mussel, and a zingy ume gelée. Just yum. 4) Foie Gras: The foie gras mousse was like a fluffy cloud of decadence, spiked with 12-year Yamazaki whiskey and served with honey crisp apple and red miso. It was so good, it should be illegal. Seriously, someone call the flavor police. 5) Shima-Aji: I'm not normally a mackerel fan, but I liked this striped mackerel and its sexydance of flavors, with onion and marinated olives. 6) Pissaladière: A twist on the classic flatbread. My one complaint was that the olive flavor was too strong and not well-balanced with the mackerel and onions. 7) Oyster and Wagyu Tartare: This dish was like a fancy party in our mouths. A5 Wagyu and Nisqually oyster mingled with sunchoke chip and cauliflower and oyster emulsion sauce. We felt like we were eating pure luxury on a spoon. 8) Arctic Char: A partial dud. The ingredients were on point and the char was fresh, but they forgot to season the sauce or something because every bite was....bland. I think someone in the back forgot the salt. What should've been an easy win ended up being the culinary equivalent of crickets during an awkward silence. 9) Abalone Risotto: Creamy, dreamy perfection, with koshihikari rice, kombu dashi, bamboo shoots, and nori. It was like a warm hug from the ocean. 10) Langoustine: Langoustine is probably my favorite seafood, but it's been pretty hard to find recently. This Norwegian langoustine was perfectly complemented with crème fraîche, mussel juice, and shiso oil--simple and flavorful, the way it should be. 11) Asparagus: The only true dud. Why would you batter and fry such a beautiful, thick stalk of white asparagus? I also suspect the same person who seasoned the char seasoned this dish--as in DIDN'T season it--as it was very, very bland. 12) Housemade Bread: I don't normally go crazy for bread, but I could've eaten a whole loaf of this. 13) Monkfish or Halibut: We got both, of course. I liked the earthy halibut more, but the rich monkfish would definitely appeal to some. 14) Veal or Squab: Pick both if you can. Feast on red meat perfection. 15) Canard: The climax of the night, and like all good climaxes, this one leaves you shaking with aftershocks and radiating with afterglow. The dry-aged duck breast, accompanied by minced duck leg and drizzled with a black pepper cognac and foie gras reduction sauce, was pure poetry on a plate. And let's not forget the duck innards salad, a delightful surprise that added a crunchy contrast to the tender meat. 16) Pear and Yuzu: Tasty and refreshing, like all palate cleansers should be. 17) Matcha and Strawberry: Don't worry if you're reading this and worried that there's only one dessert listed on the menu. First, this dessert is good. It's classic Japanese flavors and nothing is too sweet. 18) (Not Listed) Petit Fours: We got a caramel macaron, a marshmallow whose flavor I forget, and an orange dark chocolate roll, along with a nice hot cup of homemade mint tea. Enjoy these in the back chairs while they clear the space for the next seating. 19) (Not Listed) Gift Bag: You'll likely get two financiers of different flavors to take home, and you'll likely cry a bit with each moist bite. I knew Yuu was the real deal when we got their limited edition strawberry pistachio cake last Christmas, and I'm glad the rest of their cooking lives up to that potential, despite a couple of duds. Do yourself a favor. Stop waffling. Book your table and thank me later.
Chef Yuu Shimano opened his restaurant in May 2023, and received his first Michelin Star in November 2023! Yup, he really is THAT talented! They have around 18 counter seats for dining. We first visited Restaurant Yuu in March of 2024. When it was time to start cooking, they dimmed the light for a second to get everyone’s attention, then they opened the curtain to reveal the beautiful kitchen and all the chefs. It was like a beginning of a theatre. The menu is 15-couse Omakase only. The first four courses were amuse bouche: Ikura, Mussel, and Foie Gras on an artistic display. Then a hot soup was delivered immediately after, so we can have them together. Next was Shima-Aji, then Pissaladière, and the seventh course was Oyster and Wagyu Tartare. Every thing thus far tasted like heaven. Every bite was exceptional! We received a surprise from Chef Yuu, their gorgeous caviar dish. A generous amount of caviar with sour cream on brioche. It was as amazing as it looks! Back to the course, number eight was Arctic Char, Abalone Risotto, Langoustine, Egg and Truffle with their homemade bread & butter. The food heaven continues, with every dish delivering amazing flavors. A couple of the courses had a choice of dishes, and we chose a different ones so that we can taste them all. We got Monkfish, Cod, Veal, and Lamb. Also, their signature dish, Canard, with loads of shaved truffles. After all the savory dishes were done, I could not pick a favorite dish, as each and every dish was so fantastic! Then two desserts to finish off the course. Pear & Yuzu, and Matcha & Strawberry. They were both incredible! Once you are done, you can move over to the lounge area, and you receive complimentary hot tea and some petit fours. And, you even gets some desserts to take home with! How amazing is this? We had such a great time, we went back for more in June. The menu was mostly different, so we got to try so many different dishes, all amazing as expected. We will be sure to return again for more incredible dishes!!!
One of the best restaurants/wine pairings I’ve had in a long time. Every dish we tried was like a flavor explosion in our mouths. Our favorites? The succulent duck, the flavorful clams, and the indulgent abalone risotto were absolute winners. But what really stood out was Akio, the sommelier. He's not just good at what he does; he's fantastic. Akio helped us pick the perfect wines to go with our meal, and his enthusiasm was contagious. Thanks to him, our dinner went from great to unforgettable. In short, if you're in the mood for a top-notch meal and outstanding service, Restaurant Yuu and sommelier Akio have got you covered.
Dining at Restaurant Yuu feels a bit like stepping into an art gallery where the canvases happen to be edible—and occasionally perplexing. I went with friends, and while we didn’t all agree on every bite, we were unanimously awed by the experience. The evening unfolds in acts. First, you’re presented with raw ingredients, each displayed like a still life: jewel-toned vegetables, gleaming seafood, marbled meat so pristine it could be under glass. Then, as if by magic—or meticulous choreography—they reappear transformed, reimagined, and plated with the precision of a Kyoto calligrapher. Some of the flavor combinations danced on the edge of the unexpected—citrus where you didn’t expect citrus, bitterness where you wanted sweetness. Not every dish was a personal hit, but each one made you think, made you look, and sparked conversation. And isn’t that half the point? The service was flawless. Attentive without hovering, warm without pretense. Each course was delivered with quiet confidence and just enough context to make you appreciate the technique, the sourcing, the whimsy. A few bites were less “mmm” and more “huh,” but what Yuu offers isn’t a greatest-hits playlist—it’s a live concert, full of artistry, risk, and bravado. Unforgettable? Absolutely. Delicious? Mostly. Worth it? Without question. Yuu is a meal to marvel at, to talk about, and maybe even to puzzle over on the ride home—and those are the ones that tend to stick.
I had a great time dining at this restaurant. It was named the Best New Restaurant in America by Robb Report magazine so I had to go to check it out for myself. Besides, this was my parents' anniversary so this was a perfect opportunity to take them out to a nice dinner. The service was impeccable, and the food was great in terms of plating, presentation and flavor. The restaurant offers wine pairing and non-alcoholic pairing, and also very good selection of wines from various regions. Oh, and I have to say that 2 cakes made by Takahashi Masaki given to us when we were leaving rhe restaurant were delicious. I can definitely recommend this restaurant.
It was my second visit. I truly enjoyed the delicious food and had a good time with my friends. My favorite is the eel and foie gras risotto. Its unique combination matched well, and I enjoyed the dish's creativity. We also ordered the wine and sake pairing this time. The lineup was very satisfying, and the food tasted even better. Although I visited only one month later, I noticed several menu items had already been replaced. I felt their enthusiasm for constantly pursuing evolution and offering seasonal cuisine. I don't visit Brooklyn often, but every time I go to Restaurant Yuu, I feel it is worth the trip. Look forward to my next visit!
Dining at a Michelin-starred restaurant is always a special occasion, and Restaurant Yuu exceeded even the loftiest expectations. This gastronomic gem perfectly blends artistry and innovation, offering an unforgettable experience. From the moment you walk in, the ambiance sets the tone—elegant, refined, yet welcoming. The service is impeccable; every staff member seems to anticipate your needs before you do, creating an atmosphere of effortless luxury. The meal begins with an amuse-bouche that feels like a work of art, and each dish on the tasting menu is a symphony of flavors, textures, and colors. Dining here is not just a meal—it’s an immersive journey into the highest echelon of culinary excellence. For anyone seeking an unforgettable dining experience, Restaurant Yuu is not just recommended—it’s essential.
First of all, the environment, It’s all over the counter experience. The environment and style are very high-end. Secondly, the food is beautifully presented and the taste is very delicious. Thirdly, the service is perfect, the staff are all very friendly and polite! Before I came here, I also saw some bad reviews on the Internet, but they have accepted everyone's opinions and made some changes to the menu. It can be seen that the whole team is very hardworking. As far as my experience, I am very satisfied, especially the chef’s specialty Duck Wellington, which made me truly unforgettable. Other dishes are also delicious, not like the people who said a month ago, I think restaurant Yuu have made a lot of improvement! I love this place , Chef Yuu is very cute, at the end he took photo together with us and gave us some little gifts to bring home and walk us out and say goodbye. Will definitely come back again!! And hope restaurant Yuu can get Michelin Star in the near future!
This is our special spot, where we've been going for our wedding anniversary like clockwork every year for the past 3 years. Chef Yuu's cuisine is always exceptional and as pleasing aesthetically as it is to the palate. He's also super friendly and always remembers us and talks to us in French. The dishes are spectacular, and I always learn a new kind of flavor every time. This most recent dinner we discovered the Amadai fish which must be the most tasteful fish I have ever tried. And of course the duck pithivier never disappoints. Only surprise is they don't have a wine list which is pretty uncommon especially for a restaurant if this caliber. Until next year, we'll definitely be back!
Chef Yuu personally walks out each of his guests. I can’t think of any other restaurant or chef that does that. He leads by action, cares for his team members, and personalizes greetings, occasions, and goodbyes. His attentiveness to detail of individuals and personalization keeps me coming back. The combination of French technique with subtle and elegant Japanese forward flavors is so brilliant. The dessert’s acidity was a perfect complement to the main duck pie and fish courses. maybe can work on tiny minor details, such as dusting of cobwebs on ceiling and overhead lights. I did have to ask the main server what one of the ingredients was as it wasn’t stated, and a napkin that I received had a food stain on it. But I am saying this b/c I really want this place to get to 2 Michelin stars! It ultimately was Chef Yuu’s aura and energy and obvious passion for his cooking techniques and presentation that made up for that. He works extremely hard.
Restaurant Yuu is where Japanese omakase meets French cuisine in the most thoughtful and refined way. This was truly a one-of-a-kind dining experience — every course felt intentional, balanced, and beautifully executed. Chef Yuu is an artist. The precision, creativity, and harmony of flavors were on another level. What made the evening even more special was the unique collaboration with a chef from Edinbane Lodge from the Isle of Skye in Scotland — such a rare and inspired partnership that added depth and character to the experience. We celebrated our 15th wedding anniversary here, and we couldn’t have chosen a better place for such a meaningful night. The atmosphere, the storytelling through food, and the overall care put into the experience made it unforgettable. A truly exceptional restaurant.
Yuu in Williamsburg delivers an excellent dining experience blending French technique with subtle Japanese influence. The service was absolutely top-notch: attentive, polished, and perfectly paced. The atmosphere is breezy and calm, with very little noise. Seating is aligned so you’re not distracted by other guests, and facing the open kitchen adds a wonderful sense of theater — it truly feels like part of the experience. The tasting menu is excellent, with around ten courses that feel thoughtfully curated. The crab and the sweetbread were standouts and among my favorite dishes of the night. The salade de homard was very good, though it mixed quite a few savory elements — it might even benefit from being split into two separate dishes. The grouper was cooked to perfection, as was the pie, with an impressively thin, delicate crust. We’re not big dessert people, but both desserts were surprisingly great — light, fresh, and well balanced. I took the wine pairing, which was not my favorite but more from a taste than quality perspective. Pairing is expensive but they serve high-end wines which I was happy to discover. The meal ends in a separate lounge area, where you relax on a couch with a tisane and mignardises, which I found especially pleasant and thoughtful. Overall, a fantastic experience from start to finish. I will definitely be going back.
An unforgettable dining experience in Brooklyn. My husband and I agreed this was one of our favorite meals and we eat out a lot! The tasting menu flows effortlessly from one course to the next, each dish thoughtfully presented and full of subtle surprises. The service is attentive in a way that feels natural, and the atmosphere manages to be elegant while still completely comfortable. People will rave about the food, and rightfully so, but what truly sets Restaurant Yuu apart is the personal touch. After dinner, we were invited to relax in the lounge for tea and additional desserts, which made the night feel even more special. We were not rushed out like many other restaurants. The chef even stepped outside into the freezing cold just to thank us for coming. That level of care is something you don’t forget.
A perfect balance of Japanese and French sensibility. Each dish was elegant, thoughtful, and beautifully composed. The wine pairing elevated the experience without overpowering it. I recommend sitting at the counter to fully appreciate the choreography of the kitchen. Definitely going back soon!
An incredible dining experience in Brooklyn. The tasting menu feels like a theatrical performance — beautifully choreographed from start to finish. The French-Japanese fusion dishes are refined, balanced, and full of surprises. Service is attentive, the atmosphere is elegant yet relaxed, and the location is very convenient by subway (but parking is nearly impossible). The duck pie is a stunning presentation, though the other dishes impressed me more in flavor. Perfect for a special occasion — they even offer a small cake if noted for a celebration. Would definitely return to try a new menu.
If you’re looking for a dining experience that feels less like a meal and more like a masterclass in performance art, Restaurant Yuu is it. We spent our anniversary here for the nine-course tasting menu, and "perfection" is the only word that fits. The evening felt like a beautifully choreographed show. Each dish came with its own story, meticulously crafted right in front of us. It’s rare to find a place that balances such high-level elegance with a genuine, romantic warmth, but Yuu nails it. Sophisticated, intimate and worth every penny for a special occasion. It is easily one of the most romantic, unique food experiences in Brooklyn.
This was the best meal my wife and I have ever had. Every aspect of service was thoughtful and executed perfectly. Our glasses were never less than half full, flatware was changed before every course, and our menu was even personalized to wish us a happy anniversary. Each course was a perfectly balanced combination of flavors that delighted the palate. Having a front row seat to all of the hard work and artistry behind each dish was a delight. I can not recommend Restaurant Yuu highly enough.
Visited the Wine & Sake Bar and it exceeded expectations. I came to try their new bar service and ordered the Boeuf Bourguignon. It was rich, balanced, and deeply satisfying. Other dishes were exceptional as well. The à la carte menu seems like the chef’s selection of the day, which makes every visit feel unique. I’m already thinking this could become a new after-work ritual...
What an incredible night!!! Every course was a surprise. Thoughtful, creative, and full of flavor!!! The team made us feel SUPER welcomed, and the flow of the evening was perfect. From the live kitchen to the beautiful tea finish, everything was just so well done. Truly can't wait to come back.
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ A hidden side of Yuu, just as refined. Tried the Wine & Sake Bar for the first time and was impressed by how relaxed yet thoughtfully curated the experience was. The wine selection was beautiful, and the small plates carried the same finesse as the full course. It’s a perfect option when you're looking for something lighter but still special.
Watching Chef Yuu at work was mesmerizing! His precision, calm energy, and attention to detail set the tone for the entire experience. Every dish carried a sense of purpose and personality. You can feel the deep skill behind it all, but nothing ever feels overdone. A true artist leading an incredible team.
What a great experience where every dish is a thought provoker, in a good way! Came here for a special event and the chef in charge was new for the week (worked here but not normally the head chef). I loved the menu he put together and the story about each dish. The staff really put in the effort to ensure you understood what you were eating and the story behind it. The interior was beautiful and they even gave us a little surprise to take home. It was a special evening that I don’t think I’ll ever forgot. Also, don’t sleep on their sake bottle options. We shared a bottle of sparkling sake which was delicious and surprisingly went well with all the dishes. Definitely make a reservation beforehand!
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ One of the best dining experiences I've had in New York. The counter seating made it feel intimate, and watching the team work together was like a quiet performance. The duck pie was a highlight, shared like a celebration. I’ll definitely return.
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ A live performance in motion. The chefs prepare everything in front of you with quiet precision and perfect timing. Watching the kitchen work in such harmony was a highlight on its own. The team’s coordination was seamless... It felt like a performance as much as a meal.
Every moment felt considered. The space is calm and beautifully designed, and every dish was exceptional. There's a sense of quiet luxury throughout, from the ambiance to the pacing. We reserved the 8:30 seating after work, and it turned an ordinary weekday into something unforgettable!
This was the best tasting menu we’ve ever been to. Chef Yuu and staff were absolutely incredible from The moment we walked in the door. All the food was amazing. 👌🏼 Thank you, Chef Yuu!!! Your friends from Texas!
Everything was seamless from start to finish. The kitchen is fully open, so you can watch the chefs work in silence and precision. Each dish was beautifully presented, and the flavors were layered but never overwhelming. Truly a special experience.
Came with a party of 4 for a birthday celebration. The food did not disappoint — the dishes were inventive, excellently prepared (you can tell that these are chefs at the top of their game), with Japanesque-subtleties that make you ponder the flavours and textures in every bite. Excellent beverage pairing (for me, a must at any top restaurant) with some of the most amazing pours I’ve had during a meal. Somm was great and the service staff were professional throughout. This place is incredible and well deserving of its star (and stars to come). I will be coming again during my next visit to NYC. Thank you Yuu!!
Tucked in the charming Greenpoint my partner surprised me for a anniversary celebration. The staff congratulated us the moment we walked in which was thoughtful. There’re a couple of sofas across from the check in counter and main dining room. The dining room are comprised of bar tables so you sit next to each other facing the open kitchen. My seat was kind of near the corner so I didn’t have a full view of the kitchen but I saw the chefs working on their crafts one dish at a time. There were a few appetizers (including the caviar toast!) followed by Sawara with yogurt sauce (most innovative unique amazing fish!), uni risotto packed with umami, melt in your mouth Wagyu steak with foie gras and shaved truffles, best slice of bread with homemade butter, and a grapefruit sorbet followed by a chocolate cake. After the feast they transfer you to the couch area where you enjoy a cup of tea with some assortment of sweets and a mini chocolate cake. Chef Yuu, the other chefs and all staff were very friendly. Hope to be back again, wish they had a lunch menu!

Amazing food, amazing service. The appetizers were especially delicious and flavorful. I wasn’t a huge fan of the desserts, but still they are very delicious.
Fourth time here. I don’t remember that they served so much food before. (Perhaps more food is because they hiked the price by 20%.) This time I was so stuffed I had to skip one course and ask for a take-out container. Everything started well, especially the amuse bouche, until the Unagi (eel). It was doused with too much and too heavy a creamy foam. Immediately after this course I felt so stuffed. The palate cleanser of Crown Melon in the martini glass was very refreshing, and revived me a bit for the desserts. But even here with the palate cleanser, I had to ask them to stop and go easy on the creamy foam they put on it. Just too heavy-handed with the creams all throughout the courses. And there were a couple of plating missteps, resulting in slight imperfections in the visual presentation (by the new personnel in the staff.) The Master Chef had to come in and tried to salvage the situation as best as he can. (Yes, I saw that. That’s the thing about an open kitchen.) I think this probably might be my final time dining here.
The alcoholic pairing blew me away. The food, not so much. I can recommend Restaurant Yuu only if you love wine. For $180 you get to try 12 wine and sake with wildly distinct characters. Most of the bottles were priced above $85, with some being in the $250-300 range. Usually wine pairings are pretty bad value because only one or two stand out. The pairing here felt fully worth the money. Almost everything tasted amazing. Frankly, the drinks far outclassed the food in complexity of flavor and aroma. (Edit: I recently learned that the sommelier is Akio Matsumoto, who previously worked as head sommelier at Tokyo’s 3 Michelin starred L’effervescence, and is considered one of the best sommeliers in Japan. It makes total sense now. Wow.) The food was much more about aesthetics than taste. Half of the food arrived lukewarm, perhaps from too much tweezer work. It was frustrating. Things were either not hot enough or not cold enough. There were glaring execution mistakes. It often felt like they were adding more and more components for quantity’s sake, but it did not translate to deeper flavors. All it did was make plating take forever so the food came close to room temp. The truly delicious dishes (asparagus, bread, sawara, squab, signature pithivier) were the ones with the simplest presentations, merely sliced and plated with sauce, that arrived piping hot. Though, looking back, the second half of the meal was really strong. It’s just that I sat through the first half hoping the food will get better at some point (which it did). In short, the drink pairing felt worth the $180, but it’s hard to justify $250 for the tasting menu when half the dishes were executed sloppily.
Good experience overall but a bit overpriced tbh. (Price is already on par with 3 Michelin star restaurants). At $300 pp in Brooklyn I was expecting impeccable service and to be blown away by innovative dishes, but I was a bit disappointed. When introducing each dish, staff seemed a bit nervous like they were reciting rather than carrying on a conversation. For one of the dishes that we needed to use hands, the hand towel was the disposable kind that comes in a plastic wrapper. The flow of the dishes felt a bit rushed. Regarding the ambience/decor, there were two huge white beams in the middle of the room that really didn’t fit with the dark industrial look of the rest of the space. The beams were looked dirty too. Maybe better to get a texture paint job. The dishes were good but didn’t really stand out compared to other Michelin restaurants at this price. The duck pie was a bit heavy and it falls apart easily because there are too many layers. The spinach layer felt out of place, is it supposed to balance the other rich flavors and make the dish a bit healthier? The highlight of the course was dessert. Great balance of flavors and use of unique ingredients!!

Second visit to Yuu Very disappointing! The first time I tasted it was pretty good! Not sure why I visited again for the second time! The summer menu is disappointing! A bit salty! Made me drink more than five glasses of water! Thanks to the 20%tip service for saving me the chance of feeling thirsty! Then the air conditioner water dripped on me three times! So disgusting 🤢 I hope the store owner will pay attention to this air-conditioning pipe problem... so that people will not come back again!
The food was just ok, nothing was impressive. A few courses came out underwhelming, such as the green bean and the sesame bread. The duck was the most memorable and was indeed very flavory, but a bit salty. I actually liked the desserts much better than the rest. Overall a bit disappointed at this price point. Service was good, I liked the part about moving guests to the sofa section. But their waiters seemed a bit green to me.
For Bistro Yuu dinner - Not a michelin worthy meal. Below average incredibly salty food, so-so service, great space. Sure it was cheaper than usual at $95pp, but you can get an incredible michelin starred meal elsewhere in nyc for that. In more detail (more critical as this is a michelin starred restaurant): - Starting with the good - beautiful place & plates - Greeting host was cold and unfriendly, no eye contact - For one of the amuse, was served a chunk of foie gras instead of mousse for mine, not sure why - Cold appetizer was disgusting, returned. Cold, super salty onion soup base + some gel + bad uni = foul taste - Can barely hear explanation of food when served, not much care. Also, clear favouritism given to those who speak Japanese. - No clean up of my table in between courses - other ppl’s were getting cleaned now and then, mine was left with crumbs all over which I tried to clean myself. - Foie gras appetizer is just a huge cold chunk of foie gras. Huge excessive version of the amuse I got. Clearly no thought put into this dish. - Mains were good, but again, very salty. The lamb on the couscous side was very dry. - Mille feuille dessert came out basically frozen. Impossible to cut due to the thick pastry layer and frozen hard cream layer (like cold butter). Tasted better by the end of the dish, once the cream had thawed - made more sense. But by then the icecream would have completely melted. - Throughout the meal we saw at least 3 different flies flying around, with one of the big ones actually sitting & getting stuck on the dessert. Unsanitary. Overall, disappointed. Food which should have been the highlight was the most disappointing. I understand chef Yuu wasn’t there, hence the cheaper price, but if this is the standard at this place, will never pay full price for a meal here.
Unfortunately I had a very unpleasant experience. My son had been 3 times in a month and had both the bar seating and the counter seating. It would have been nice to have had a back rest on the stool for the bar seating. This was not supposed to be a rushed experience and it was uncomfortable perched on a stool, while watching the counter seating directly next to us in comfortable counter chairs. The experience is also important. The female server had a horrible attitude. Clearly new and untrained. The restaurant is famous for the duck. The way it is prepared. The chef had created a special menu for my son as he had been multiple times which did not have the duck. That's thoughtful but this was my first time. After being told rudely by the female server to ' respect' the chef I was finally allowed to have a small slice of the duck. Bazar. Further her tone was so loud I kindly asked her to lower it while she was reprimanding me. The food was ok. Sadly nothing special. The sommelier an utter gentleman. Thank you. However the worst part was whilst having the dessert the staff started to bring out all the garbage directly in front of the bar where we were eating. Why not wait for us to all leave as this was the final seating and only 9pm? Very disappointing.
While the atmosphere was impeccable and the service so fine, I didn’t buy the food story. The French and Japanese blend took the awkward parts of French cooking and added them to the less-liked sides of Japanese cooking. The food was too lavish, too salty, with a lot of winter vegetables like peas, green beans, broccoli. The meat had other meat stuffed into it. It was just a strange food journey, and I have to also say I vomited this morning. I did feel love and an attempt at precision being put into the food, and a lot of attention, and there were a few dishes I liked: the strawberries and vanilla ice cream desert was innovative and nostalgic. The sea food risotto was delicious. But the rest were kind of a shame and just felt the whole experience and my own budget could have been better spent at a better-experienced Michelin chef’s restaurant. I believe this chef has a lot of growth to do! But I did appreciate the hard work.
Below than average quality and does not deserve a Michelin star. A lot of the courses taste quite bland and the service is also no good. The pace of the menu is too fast. They had two seatings every night at 6pm and 8:30pm, which is absolutely not long enough to serve a 13-course menu. We were guided to a lounge area at 8pm and the staff was cleaning the table just a few steps away, which shouldn’t happen for a restaurant charging such a price. The menu is served too fast, and consecutive courses often have entirely different or opposite flavors. Often time the taste from the previous course was still strong in my mouth while I’m obligated to finish the next one. The signature duck pie is very average / below average. I can’t imagine that they are selling the black truffle supplement with the course, since the sauces are so strong that cover the taste of all other ingredients. This is absolutely not a course that you can serve with truffle. At the end when we leave, there is no server guiding us out. First time I’ve seen this for a Michelin star restaurant.
Bad food, Bad sanitation, Bad reservation service. Not even fusion. Only showing some poor performance. Can’t even make a clear description of the food. Chefs talks above the food, passing the food around to show off, can’t imagine the sanitation of the food. Imagine spending serval hundreds by having low quality of food. Especially bad truffle.
We had dessert tasting menu. The dessert was okay, nothing special. You can get better soufflé at other places, or you can maker better soufflé than what was offered at the restaurant. The service was extremely bad. They don’t seem happy at work. The chefs treated Japanese clients differently. No one cared to introduce the food to us. I was a customer since the restaurant has opened and witnessed the service has got worse. I don’t think the food and service deserves a michelin star.
A truly awful restaurant. During the meal, the servers just stood behind us, staring. From the fourth course onward, the plates were dirty and hadn’t been wiped. Every time they brought out a new course, they placed fresh utensils on the grime. Absolutely disgusting. The two-and-a-half-hour duration was unreasonable, as they had an evening session to prepare for, so the pace was rushed. One course finished, and the next one was immediately served—no time to catch a breath. The servers only announced the dish names, and the chef, who might as well have been mute, came to the table without saying a word. The seating was so cramped that it felt like a busy marketplace, and we could only stare straight ahead. When we shared feedback with a Chinese waitress, she responded with a sour expression and said, "Then don't come next time." An absurdly disappointing restaurant. 4o
They waited till two days before our reservation (made 6 weeks in advance) to read our reservation's note that I had allergy to dairy. Ultimately, the said we were better off canceling our reservation since they couldn't accommodate. That left us with very little time to find a nice replacement. We were very disappointed and not impressed by the restaurant's management.
