After 66 years of serving delicious food they have NOT lost their touch. Check out our video review @TripoutwithSadieandRandThom
I have been going to Cavaretta's for 44 years, and I'm only 51. The sandwiches, the hot food, and the crew are equally AMAZING! I'm in there usually once a week, for a sandwich or to pick up bread. I can't recommend this place enough. Please be kind to the crew, always, especially on busy days. The level of service they provide is top notch! So that few extra minutes of waiting is worth it!
The best of the best authentic Italian food for the very best price around. Been going here since I was 10. I’m now 57. 🥰
Hidden Gem One of the best delis if not best in SFV
This place was fantastic for the kid from New Jersey discovering in 1978. Still fantastic in 2026. Thank you very much.
I really love this place. It has authentic Italian food and me being Sicilian Italian I give it 2 👍 the people who work there are so awesome. So if you never been here before this place if a must try
It is a wonderful Italian deli. Great sandwiches, hot and cold, fabulous Lasagna, meatballs, imported foods, pastries and drinks.
This place is fantastic! I have driven by it for decades not even knowing of its existence. Then I got a Groupon alert on it, did some research, and now I am hooked. My girlfriend and I stopped in on a busy Saturday afternoon. There were about 8 orders in front of us, but we were out within 20 minutes. Well worth the wait. We ordered the large Italian sandwich, which we split, a large dill pickle, a Carrot Cake, and a lasagna to heat up later for dinner. There was plenty of food, and the whole thing was just $34. A bargain. The lasagna was delicious and enough for us both, come dinner time. I highly recommend this place. It has that old-world charm and if you close your eyes and smell, you feel like you are somewhere in Sicily.
Been hearing about this place for years. Service and food were all top notch. Tons of products for sale too. ❤️ their Lasagne, Italian Sub, Meatball Sub, Sausage & Peppers sub, Marinated Musbrooms, Caprese Salad, Cannoli. Sausage & Peppers could've used more Peppers (there was only one slice).
4.8? .. with over 800 reviews? Really.. ? Yup. We found this place randomly on Google Maps after some mountain biking in the area and we are so happy we did. Great food, great service and great vibe. I love that you don’t have to get a large.. you can get a small and add meat by the $.. PERFECT for when you want the protein but not all the bread. Our sandwiches were perfect. We will DEFINITELY be going back the next time we ride in the area.
We've been going to Cavarettas for over 40 yrs. The sandwiches are fantastic & filling. Through the years, we've catered many parties with a variety of filled circle & 6 foot sandwiches, different types of salads, homemade lasagna, & desserts. The personnel are always friendly and helpful. Parking is a little tight at times & on weekends there is usually a lineup of people waiting to make an order. All you have to do is take a ticket when you get there. Or, you can always call your order in ahead of going there & it will be waiting for you at your requested time. It's well worth the wait.
Old school Italian deli that I found by mistake!!! I've lived in the area almost 7 years and I have no idea how I didn't know about this place! This Italian deli has all kinds of traditional Italian cookies, pastas, canned goods, and more imported from Italy. I ordered the famous Italian sub. It was really good. My only gripe, as an Italian from the east coast, when you order a large, you expect a 16" sub. Even at Jersey Mike's large, which they call GIANT is a 16". When I order a large, I'm typically feeding 2 mouths. I'd have to buy 2 large subs here to feed 2 mouths for almost $30 to equal 1 large sub, which is crazy. So, factoring that basic math it's a bit pricey for an old school Italian sub. Staff was very friendly. And they have some basic Italian pastries like candles, rainbow cookies, biscotti, black and white cookies etc. I tried one of their cannolis, I can tell from just looking at them that the filling looks a but strange as far as consistency. Cannoli cream is usually pretty thick. This looked more like an icing consistency. But it definitely tasted better than it looked. It tasted like a cannoli. I'd love to know what they use to make the cream. Marscapone? Ricotta? If you're looking for a pretty authentic Italian deli, def give them a try. They have a very small dine in area and more seating outside. And parking in the rear.
It’s outstanding. The only place I go for a real cold cut sandwich. They’ll make you anything you want, but I recommend trusting their process at least once on the Italian. The prepared section is fantastic I’ve had the pasta and potato salads and they’re all very good. They also have a bunch of freshly made options like ravioli, stuffed shells, and meatballs to bring home for an easy meal. Lastly they have tons of imported treats and pantry items from Italy to shop while you wait for your order. Parking is easy in back or plenty of meters out front. Staff is friendly and efficient and they package up everything perfectly.
Great Italian Deli, 100% authentic Italian products!! I got Turkey, Provolone cheese, bread, much more, and let me tell you. It was amazing!! Highly recommended, sometimes difficult to find parking always busy, some products pricing than others, but is worthy. Super friendly staff!! Is a must!!
Best Meatball Sub in the valley and more! Atmosphere: This is an italian deli through and through, big bonus is all the old dodgers memorabilia everywhere, bobbleheads, signs awesome! Food: Meatball Sub - I dare say this is the best meatball sub anywhere. The soft fresh bread and incredibly juicy and tasty meatballs and the perfectly tangy sauce. Add some pepperoncini's and this is a meatball sub that can't be beat. Cannolis - Fresh made both large and small sizes a must eat. Cookies - All kinds of cookies and cakes all are fresh and all are delicious Macaroni salad - very good, a bit on the sweet side I could see people going either way on this but I love it. Big menu, You can easily find anything you like here. Sauce Tip: Extra Italian on regular sandwich or Sauce on the meatball Drinks: Every canned or bottled drink you could think of. tons of fridges fully stocked Price: Very affordable, the meatball comes in at $9.95 for a small, more then enough just add a pack of chips. Parking: They have a lot in the back entrance with 5 or 6 spots. Meters in the front and side street. Go a couple of feet towards the neighborhood and avoid the meters for free. Service: Extremely friendly staff. They are ALWAYS busy but they get to you quick. The number system is tried and true and works very well here. Easily the best place for a deli style sandwich in the Valley. puts the rest of the options to shame.
60+ Year old Italian Deli, obviously they are doing something right. Where do I start. I've been visiting this local spot for around 25 years now. I actually drive 45+ minutes from SCV to stock up on my favorite items. Awesome Deli Sandwiches, Check! Great Selection of Italian market items, Check! Fresh Breads, Check! Italian Wine Selection, Check!, and probably one of my favorite most ridiculously good in house made Lasagna's, that they make from scratch daily. The sign in the deli says it best. "If you can't smell it we don't have it" Also their pastry/desert counter is very good, try the éclair, or cream puffs, but don't forget the cannoli!!!!! Call ahead and order via phone if you know your going and it can reduce your wait time. Lunch time can get pretty busy.
Solid Italian Deli in the Valley. Some outside seating spots/benches and a few tables inside. Good Italian and other speciality items from Spain and Italia for sale off the shelf. Deli has all the best meats. The basic Italian Sub is always my go to, however, everything is excellent. Great lasagna, and homemade sauce(s) to take home or eat in. If you are in the Mid-Valley area CID is the place. Prices are great, KFC is on the corner DO NOT GO THERE, and get fresh food for your tummy at Cavaretta's instead.
Grab a number ticket and wait for your number to be called. This is despite no line at all when I came in. Kind of weird. Once I got a number ticket (after the employee fixed the jammed number ticket machine), the person behind the counter called the number. Looking around, no one else is there waiting. Obviously I was that next customer because I was the only one there waiting! :D I ordered the small meatball and cheese sub for $11.95. The meatballs were huge and bursting out of the bread! The meatballs here are basically twice the size of Subway meatballs. Good value indeed. Parking can be a bit difficult. There are only a couple of free parking spots in the back that are accessible from the alley. At the front, it's just street parking with parking meters. There is very limited seating indoors. There are outside seating and tables but not advisable when it's really hot outside.
Ice Cream Delight, But Everything Else Fell Flat I had heard glowing reviews about Cavaretta's Italian Deli, so I decided to give it a try. Unfortunately, my visit left me more disappointed than delighted. Sandwich Letdown I ordered the Corned Beef & Pastrami Sandwich with the works, expecting a hearty, flavorful bite. Instead, I waited over 30 minutes for a sandwich that was dry, bland, and overwhelmingly bready. There were no bread options, just a plain white Italian loaf that lacked character and taste. The meat was sparse, the condiments nearly nonexistent, and the overall balance was off. It felt like eating a loaf with a hint of deli. Cookie Confusion I also ordered half a pound of Italian Wedding Cookies, but was mistakenly given sprinkle cookies instead. To make matters worse, they tasted stale, at least two days past their prime. This mix-up and lack of freshness added to the frustration. Spumoni Redemption The one saving grace was the Spumoni Ice Cream, prepackaged from Brothers' Company. It was rich, flavorful, and exactly what I hoped for. If you're stopping by, this might be the only item worth grabbing. Timing & Setup I visited around 4:30 PM, and it seemed like the food had been sitting out all day. Perhaps an earlier visit would yield better results. Also, the store layout is inefficient; servers constantly run up and down, and into one another in the prep line, which slows everything down. A streamlined setup, like what chains such as Subway use, could drastically improve service speed and consistency. Final Thoughts Cavaretta’s has potential, but my experience was marred by poor execution and stale offerings. If you go, call ahead and aim for an earlier time slot. And definitely grab the Spumoni.
