The food is always amazing here! The meats and fish are never overcooked & just melt in your mouth. They have a huge wine list and excellent deserts. (The bread pudding with raspberry & apricot sauces is my favorite.) Sitting outside on the patio is my favorite. It's perfect for a romantic evening with your partner or a night out with friends, drinking wine & sharing deserts after dinner.
Awesome spot. Pizzas are delicious and extremely friendly staff and service. Highly recommend lunch before your wine tasting
Came here with my fiance for her birthday, and they made it feel special. The food was great, especially the calamari appetizer, the pasta eustica, and the berry gelato. As good as the food was the service was even better-some of the best and most attentive service I've ever had in a restaurant, not overbearing but always there within moments when we needed anything or just to check in. Thank you for a wonderful evening!
Ive always Wanted To Try this Place But Finances did not Allow. Ive Heard Great Things about it. So On 7/29/21 I called for Reservation. When I got there I sat in Outdoor in Covered patio. My Server Came Up Asked What I would Like after He told Me the Specials. I Ordered Oven Roasted Pork Loin Medallions - Mashed sweet potatoes, mushroom sauce, winter greens. This was wonderful Tender The Sauce was perfect The Sweet Potatoes are My Favorite. My Server Ramon I think his Name was Very Attentive. What Really Surprised Me The Hostess Remembered Me from Bahama Billys, Sorry I Forgot her Name. Thats a Few Decades ago. I will Return. Thanks For Great Food and Service
Fantastic lunch. Reservations only available to sit outside but they had tables inside for us late comers. Once our eyes adjusted to the dark interior could see a full menu with lots of salads, sandwiches, pizza and other starters. Had a grilled artichoke which was served with pickled peppers and mayo for dipping. Really good. Opted for a smoked salmon pizza. It was thin crust with creme fraiche, topped with smoked salmon, capers and some red onion. It was awesome! Never had it before but will try to make it at home now.
Very enjoyable outdoor atmosphere, while dining in the beautiful, warm sunshine. All of our meals were delicious. Bread served beforehand was so good, too! Pricey, so can't go often, but will definitely go back on special occasions.
What's not wonderful about eating outside? Pasta with veg was really huge and satisfying! I usually don't love veg dishes, but this was well-seasoned and good. We also enjoyed fish of the day with buttery delicious sauce and lamb, which was perfectly cooked. Really good value.
I love this place. Every time my family goes to Carmel, we make a special trip to the valley to eat here. The food is amazing. We usually only go for lunch pizzas, but some of my family have gotten the specials and they looked spectacular. I was told they were better than mine, which we still debate. The only reason it wasn't perfect was because I had a slightly icky appetizer plate, and the waiter forgot my wine. It was okay though, because it wasn't on the bill and there were a lot of places to have wine nearby. I didn't say anything because I was lost in my pizza! I'm sure they would've fixed it if I complained, but I couldn't. I was too busy eating!! Even though, the wine list was impressive. If you are ever in Carmel Valley, this is a MUST TRY place. The servings are large, the people are great, and they have inside and outside tables. I will say that the tables are a bit small. If you have a big party, make sure you have enough room. The barhrooms were clean, well appointed, and very on theme. It seemed that a lot of people that were eating there were residents of the area, which speaks to how amazing it is.
We've been coming here for 20 years during our annual summer stay in Carmel Valley. Restaurant offers rustic/bistro style French cuine. Staff are all well trained and friendly. The owner is the chef. Patio is the best place to enjoy a meal as you can enjoy the vista of Carmel Valley hills. Cafe Rustica is one of our favourite restaurants on the Monterey Peninsula.
One of the best dinners my wife and I had in quite a while. The food was excellent, the wine was excellent, but what really stood out was this fantastic staff! We sat at the bar and Max took great care of us! His recommendations were great as well as his service. We highly recommend this gem in Carmel Valley!
Picturesque setting, check. Charming and comfy establishment, check. Delicious food, check check. Excellent service, big check! We arrived late, past their lunch serving, but they were so accommodating and squeezed us in while staff were preparing for dinner service. We'll be back for more!
I am surprised they don’t have a Michelin star, top three restaurants I have ever been to. Everything is taken fresh right out of the garden and every dish is to die for. If you are anywhere nearby you have to go!!
What an amazing place! The food was absolutely delicious - every single bite was perfect. Our server was funny, and smart and made great recommendations. The space was warm and welcoming. I couldn't believe what a gem it is, hidden away in Carmel Valley Village.
This is a charming place in Carmel that you should take the time and visit. The food is well prepared and delicious. In our party we had Marinated And Grilled Lamb Filets which was delicious and was served with a generous amount of lamb. I had the Wood Oven Baked Rigatoni which I loved. The table nect to us had ordered various personal sized pizza's which looked really good. They offer a decent sized selection of wines by the glass or bottle. Bottles run from $40 to $170. Glasses probably average $15 or so.
Saturday, February 24th was our first visit to Cafe Rustica. Why have we never been before? It is a gem. The weather was spectacular, which only added to our perfect experience and day. We were a party of 6, celebrating two birthdays. The special of the day was Sand Dabs. 5 of the 6 of us ordered the Sand Dabs. Perfectly prepared (with a side of German Potato salad). They were delicious. Butterscotch pudding and a root beer float was dessert. Believe me, there was hardly any room for more! Our server was Derek, who was very accommodating, friendly while being very professional. High marks all around. And your dogs will be very welcome, along with treats supplied by Derek! Don't wait.
My husband brought me here for a birthday lunch, and it was gorgeous. Ensuring was pretty much perfect. We greatly enjoyed our food (lightly floured and pan fried sole with mashed red potatoes and a massive salad). The chive cream sauce is a sauce I intend to try to duplicate. We also had two glasses each of the French sparkling rose on the menu and apple galette for dessert. Phenomenal. Will certainly return! If it’s good weather (today was), then I highly recommend outdoor seating.
My wife and I enjoyed a relaxed lunch at Cafe Rustica, seated outside on a beautiful day. We shared a bottle of Justin Cabernet and started with a small loaf of bread served with olive oil and balsamic. For an appetizer, we ordered the Crispy Calamari with chili aioli. The calamari was tender—not chewy—and the chili aioli was an excellent dip. For our main, we shared a Margherita pizza with a thin crust, traditional sauce, fresh mozzarella, basil, and tomatoes. It was well executed and easy to share. For dessert, we split the Fresh Lemon Pudding Cake, which came with sliced strawberries, whipped cream, and a strawberry drizzle. It was very unique and delicious, and a standout way to end the meal. Service was excellent—Thomas took great care of us—and the atmosphere was warm and inviting. Cafe Rustica is a very quaint spot, nestled in Carmel Valley about 12 miles east of Highway 1, and well worth the drive. After lunch, my wife and I took a leisurely stroll through Carmel Valley, wondering why we hadn’t discovered this area sooner. Our walk formed a relaxed circuit along both sides of Carmel Valley Road, passing numerous wine-tasting rooms, restaurants, and beautiful scenery. We stopped often to take photos of the tasting locations, the mature oak trees, and even a majestic hawk perched on a fence. The overall setting and atmosphere were wonderful, and it’s easy to imagine returning specifically for wine tasting—or even staying at one of the nearby resorts. Carmel Valley left a strong impression and is well worth spending time exploring.
Went on a weekend to have lunch to celebrate my Mom’s birthday. My parents have been here multiple times & love it! Great atmosphere, great food, & friendly staff. We sat outside as it was a nice sunny day. I ordered the butternut squash ravioli, very flavorful & I enjoyed every bite. Well done chef! They even brought out a nice dessert for my Mom and sang Happy Birthday to her. Lovely staff & great food! My whole family was happy and enjoyed their meal. Thank you! :)
During our first visit to Carmel Valley, we dined at Café Rustica and immediately understood why this charming, cozy spot is a local favorite. From the moment we walked in, the staff made us feel incredibly welcome. One of the unique highlights is the open kitchen—watching the chefs at work adds a memorable, personal touch to the experience. The food is exceptional. Portions are generous, and every dish we’ve tried has been rich in flavor and beautifully presented. My personal favorites are the lamb and duck—some of the best I’ve ever had. But what truly stands out is the service. We once introduced close family friends to Café Rustica, and they loved it so much they planned to celebrate their anniversary there. Wanting to surprise them, I called ahead to reserve a table and arrange a bottle of champagne. Despite the distance and short notice, the staff made it happen seamlessly, even processing the payment over the phone. That thoughtful gesture made their evening unforgettable—and cemented our loyalty to this gem. Now, every time we’re in the area, a dinner at Café Rustica is a must. It’s not just the food—it’s the care and hospitality that keep bringing us back.
What a lovely dining experience in Carmel Valley! Café Rustica has attentive staff, inspired, simple food, and generous portions. We sat outside in a group of 9 and enjoyed starters, drinks, wood fired pizza, and entrees followed by desserts and coffee. The terrace was so pleasant, and everything was delicious.
We visited on a chilly, rainy day and were disappointed we had to sit outside because inside was full, however it was very well sheltered from the elements and the heat lamps were working. The staff was extremely friendly, attentive, and service was prompt. My wife had Hungarian goulash and gave it a thumbs up. I had the Chile Verde special and it was excellent, just the right amount of spicy. Prices reasonable for the area.
Cafe Rustica in Carmel Valley is a delightful experience! 🌟 The service is exceptional, creating a warm and inviting atmosphere. The food not only tantalizes the taste buds but is also presented beautifully, adding an artistic touch to the dining experience. Highly recommend for a memorable culinary journey! 👌
We all really enjoyed our meals and experience. The Sea Bass special was my favorite out of everything we ordered. Also loved the calamari appetizer and Cesar salad.
Very good food! We drove from Monterey on a recommendation - so glad we went. Visiting from CO! Serving staff delightful as well!! ❤️
True jewel in Carmel Valley. Humble and honest food that is cooked with love. The staff is super friendly and the food exceeds all expectations. True wood fired pizza delivered in seconds after being taken out. Fresh clams and pasta. Will return every time I drive by Carmel.
Classic and Consistent. Cafe Rustica is one of the best restaurants on the Peninsula.
Absolutely stunning food, with an amazing atmosphere and an unique but very cool waiter.
Easy to find a table on a busy Sunday...Delicious food even when catering to a food allergy. Peaceful and quaint setting. Reasonably priced for the generous portion.
I could eat here everyday. Fresh, flavorful, great portions, great service. Loved it!

If you are in the Carmel Valley and want a delightful meal, Cafe Rustica is an amazing choice. We ate there for lunch before a local area wine tasting. The setting is quaint and lovely. The menu seems to be thoughfully crafted with delicious options like an egg salad sandwich and tomato basil soup. We sat outside in at a comfortable table with citrus trees around us. Our group of 5 throroughly loved our meal, the service and the experience.

It was amazing 👌😍😲 lt was too cold when I got there but then I saw fire and it warmed me up it was perfect 👌🤔😊 and I had pasta and Pepsi and I didn't want anything else
This was my first time here. I've heard very nice things about the restaurant. I dined with a friend. When we arrived, we were told there was no seating inside but that we could find outside next to a heater. No problem. (About halfway through our meal, the hostess came over and apologized and said that she could seat us inside since some reservations were canceled. We politely declined since that would mean moving ourselves and our food). We started by splitting the Red Leaf Lettuce salad. It was delicious. Just the right amount of dressing and crunch. My friend ordered the Butternut Squash ravioli and shared a bit with me. It was okay...very sweet. We both agreed we probably won't order that next time. I ordered the rib eye. I asked for medium well because when I order medium ANYWHERE, it's always undercooked for my taste. I noticed immediately it wasn't medium well, but where I was cutting, it was cooked enough that I could deal with it. The sauce was delicious. As I got further into the steak, it was medium rare. I just couldn't. The server took it back without an issue. When she brought it back, the outside of the steak was charred and the inside was still bloody. I was not going to send it back, so I ate the green beans and the potatoes, which were both delicious and perfectly cooked. The server came by and asked if the steak was better, and I showed her that it was not. I told her to bring me a box and I would cook it at home to my liking but that everything else was yummy. When she brought the bill, she also brought out a bread pudding and said she felt bad about the steak. I usually speak up more, but I let it go--it wasn't her fault. For $47, though, the steak should have been cooked perfectly. Cafe Rustica has a better reputation than this, and I was disappointed for my first time. I gave four stars because the servers, bussers, and hostess were very nice, and the flavors were delicious. The outside area had enough heaters that I wasn't cold and our food didn't get cold. They just need to make sure to cook the steaks correctly.
We ate dinner here while on vacation. Overall the food and atmosphere were fantastic! The service was a little curt, but that added something to the experience in a way and didn't bother us too much. My wife had the seafood special and loved it. The sides were also amazing. However, the ribeye was smothered in sauce and ended up being mostly fat and grissle and was hard to eat. I have had a lot of fantastic ribeyes for less money. This one was not worth the price.
We had a really solid meal. Good atmosphere and service. Wish they had a full bar. Bear and wine only. Maybe stick with the pizza.
Rustic is an apt description of this charming spot in the Carmel Valley Village. Of course, it blends in nicely with other buildings in town. The patio is as good as it gets. Pizza, pasta and a local wine. What could be better?

Mediocre food. I recommend. Calling and making a reservation. The gentleman serving water was on point.
We love this restaurant but today they seemed a little “off.” Called one week in advance for lunch (asking for outside dining) and when we arrived there was plenty of outside seats available yet the hostess seated us at a table in the breezeway. We dined for 90 minutes and not once were the two or three 4-tops were occupied, which the hostess told us were reserved. Also, when I made reservations I told the person we were celebrating 33 years of marriage. No one made mention of it during our visit….NO, we didn’t expect a free dessert….how about “congratulations on your special day and thank you for dining with us.” Yes, we will return hoping for a better experience next time.

We left the restaurant tonight feeling underwhelmed and sort of annoyed. The escargot was nice, my wife enjoyed her lamb filet main, my rib eye was surprisingly tough-which I would have mentioned to the server had she come to the table to ask how everything was. In fairness, it's a small restaurant and they had some large groups in-those groups seemed to be their focus. It happens, it's not the end of the world, but for the price, I think it's reasonable to expect more. Also mildly annoying when other servers told their guests about specials, offered bread, etc., but none of that for us. All in all, seems to be a hot spot in town-and we enjoyed the ambiance-maybe it just wasn't our day.
Wanted to love it. Bread looked and tasted like mass production bread…white and crust less…and such an easy thing to get right. Pasta was overcooked and bland, pizza wasn’t flavorful. Staff was slow but nice and the crème brûlée was solid, but not enough overall to try again

On our first visit my daughter's food did not arrive, turns out they forgot the order. So she had to wait while everyone else had their main course. Also disappointed with the food on two separate visits here. The ribeye steak was not tender nor flavorful. Worse of all, on our second visit one of the waiters was rude to my wife. She misunderstood what the waiter was saying and she said that we have more friends about to join us, then the waiter angrily shot back at her! So we will give them a break and try other.options in the village.
We've eaten here over the years and each year we try it again only to be disappointed. The "wood fire" pizza was disappointing. It came out within 5 min. It was cold and tasted like it had sat around all afternoon instead of freshly made. Returned it to get a warmer one but it just was not great. The calamari was generic.
