This is just a road side diner with great omelets and hamburgers. Their hash browns and rolls would grace the menu of more expensive restraunts. It haa a nice out door patio. The place has more character than any other diner in thw area.
Always love Toro Place Cafe. Live in Hollister & always stop at Toro on the way home when we are in Monterey. Best hamburgers anywhere, best service, friendly staff & reasonable price. Can't beat it.
Took a while to get seated and served outdoors. We would pick a week day next time instead of Sunday at 9:30. The staff was attentive but very busy. Whatever they get paid it isn't enough.
Stopped in for a pandemic to go breakfast. My recent to go experiences have really been hit or miss.Toro Park Cafe was definately a hit !! I so appreciated seeing the smiling eyes through the mask's and all of the extra details to insure customers have a good experience and feel safe. Josue and his team truly have this new process dialed in!! Oh...and the food and mimosas are Always Yummy!!
It's a great place right off the highway. I really didn't expect much but I was pleasantly surprised. The food tasted fresh and delicious.
The Chilaquiles and cinnamon buns were delicious, and the outside seating was gorgeous. A wonderful spot with wonderful food that makes for a wonderful experience
Great burgers and amazing banana walnut cake! Not always available and off the menu so we're even more glad we got to taste it! :)
I Love, Love, Love this sweet cafe. Have the Juicy Lucy..
We went for breakfast 3 times while we were in town. The food was delicious every time and service was amazing! This cute little cafe is a great downhome place to visit!
My brother and I ate breakfast. Very nice omelet selection.excellent food. Friendly and efficient service. Highly recommend if you're heading to or leaving Monterey area in Hwy 68.
It is one of my favorite places to eat and spend time with my family. Not just the food but the owner is so awsome always there greeting his customers making sure everything is ok and a plus has the restrooms real clean love Toro Cafe well recommended
Delicious food, great staff, and cute place to eat. The food is all made from scratch and you will never be disappointed!
A really nice little café tucked away along the side of the road. The food was really good & the place had a nice friendly atmosphere. My first time there was really good & I'll definitely be back again.
I had a double bacon cheeseburger 🍔 and fries the patties were just right in size and in flavor and the pattie wasn't burned and it wasn't under cooked the fries were perfect nice and crispy on the outside but soft on the inside.
Toro Place Cafe is a great place for a great hamburger at a nice price and good people. Parking can be difficult and please be careful pulling off of and back onto Highway 68.
Good breakfast options if you can make it before they stop serving it. Lunch is also good but I recommend their breakfast more. Inside seating is limited but their staff are very attentive and welcoming.
Sometimes the small things make an experience. The potato salad here was delicious (possibly the best I've had), and it was a refreshing change of pace to see it as a side option in place of fries.
Excellent country view, food and feeling. It's our to go list for breakfast from now on.
Wow this place is a gem. Lovely family-owned restaurant where you can get a taste of the Vaquero lifestyle. Staff is kind, kitchen is fast, and food is perfect. Get the farmer’s omelette.
Had the chicken fried steak and eggs, hash browns and a biscuit. Perfect breakfast! I had to waddle out, but I'll be back.
Great roadside restaurant off 68. It's one of the closets restaurants to Laguna Seca. It has a nice selection of dishes to choose from. We have gone several times for lunch. The food is generally always pretty satisfying. Sometimes it could use a little more seasoning on some dishes. But all in all we leave happy. The place gets very busy at time and the waitresses can get bogged down so just bare with them. The always treat us right and are very welcoming. Highly recommend this place.
There should be a requirement for all customers to order the cinnamon roll - so good!
We've driven past this restaurant hundreds of times saying we need to eat there. We finally stopped. I had the chorizo scramble which was delicious. The hash browns were how you want them to be. My wife had the chile Verde special which was excellent. It was busy so we got the last table which was in the entrance way by the front door. The manager told a charming story that a couple that has been married many years had their first date at that table and come back every year for their anniversary. The table was private in its own way and you're close to your partner so maybe the story is true! We'll be back.
This is a fantastic place to eat! It's like having a great homemade meal. The portions are large & filling! It's that little tucked away place that locals love to eat at! The service is fast, everyone is polite & courteous!
Toro Place Cafe is a unique setting serving good food. The breakfast has generous servings and is available until 11 AM. We had a nice lunch picking from a good variety selections. They have a large following so go for a little later breakfast or lunch to avoid a wait.
Great service, good food, plus it is served fast. Cool building it would be great to sit outside on warm day. Large menu of burgers. Lots of hot and cold sandwiches plus a good salad selection. No parking but worth a stop.
It was one of the best burgers I've had in a long time. I got the double western. it was great! The staff was nice and provided top-notch service.
Casual coffee shop off busy highway 68. Cinnemon rolls and extensive breakfast and lunch choices. Fun vibe and good service. Comfortable outdoor patio.
Parking at noon on a Wednesday was awful but worth it. My linguica on a toasted roll w grill onions and peppers was amazing. Potato salad was good after adding a little Mayo and s&p.
Best breakfast in the Monterey area! Beautiful drive, super old school diner vibe (previous gas station that still has the old pumps), great service and the TASTIEST breakfast - Especially the biscuits!! I always make the drive out there for breakfast when visiting friends are in town.
Really good biscuits and gravy, Castroville omelette was full of fresh veggies, and the salsa had amazing flavor and fesh ingredients. It's small on the inside, limited tables, but cute/quaint. Plenty of outdoor tables in a garden setting. Attentive staff made the whole experience perfect.
Tasty food, cute spot, and lovely service! Can’t wait to go back!
Nice little cafe. We had the Ruben sandwiches. Very tasty! Friendly staff. Rustic old building. Had a nice charm to the whole thing. Perfect little out of the way stop for some tasty eats.
Absolutely wonderful place to stop, it wasn't too busy so I had my order within 15 minutes. Everything tasted fantastic and I found the atmosphere very welcoming.
The staff are fabulous we’ve come here 2 days in a row for breakfast while visiting from seattle. The environment is like being in your own family! The staff is amazing and so sweet too!
Comfort food done simply but tasty. This is a local hang out. I love the BBQ Pulled Pork sandwich. It comes with American cheese, but ask for cheddar and it takes a step up.
We’ve been coming here for years because the food and service are the best. Josue and his crew always make sure our coffee cups are full and the biscuits and cinnamon rolls are incomparable!
Early morning breakfast was awesome. Had the special of skirt steak and eggs. It's so seldom that anyplace gets my eggs just right plus get my hash browns perfect that I can't remember the last time. They were perfect. The marinated skirt steak was very tender and much more than expected for size. As a plus the people there are friendly and easy to talk to or not if you choose. Set us up for a great day. Go there if you ever have a chance. Oh one more important thing for me is how clean the bathrooms are! It says a lot on how clean the kitchen is kept. Spotless.
It's my favorite weekend brunch spot. The staff is fantastic and the food is so freaking good! It's always busy, so plan time to wait a minute. But that's the real sign of great food.
A wild west remnant near Laguna Seca Raceway serving home made breakfast and lunch.
I love this little place. It's always busy for a reason. Their french fries are outstanding, and honestly, I've never once ordered any meal that wasn't excellent. I love the Sierra Melt. Kid's menu is nice & inexpensive, and the staff is lovely. Parking is tough, but that's expected at a popular hole-in-the-wall sort of place.
My husband and family go here a few times a month for either breakfast or lunch. Wonderful, relaxed atmosphere & good food. Their chili verde is sooo good. (They usually only have it on Fridays though.) And their freshly made biscuits and huge cinnamon rolls are amazing!! My kids particularly enjoy their milk shakes. They give back to the community every year by hosting a toy-drive event too. Love the owner & staff!!
Love it here! They even have a pup menu! Definitely suggest eating here!
Absolutely loved everything!!! The atmosphere was beautiful! The servers were so sweat and catering to everyone. The food was some of the best I've had! The cinnamon rolls were to die for!!!
I been eating here since the 90s, delicious food specially the omelettes and the freshly baked goods. Staff is always friendly. I only wish I lived near by to be there everyday.
First time experience: Customer service was spot on. Friendly owner and employees. Food was delicious! Went for breakfast and ordered chilaquiles for a very picky Mexican mom, just being honest here, and she loved them. Very homey atmosphere, perfect for family quality time. The place was clean and orderly, would definitely recommend and would personally go again.
This is the best place ever. We saw their sign, decided to stop and this was one of the best ever decisions we made. A super cute place, we sat outside in their little Courtyard and had the most delicious breakfast on our trip. You must stop, everything was hot, service was great and friendly, portions were a good size, take a look at the pics of our breakfasts. Make sure you stop, you will be very happy you did! 😊
Paw Paw and Kitty approve 🤗 it was a nice lunch after a hard half days work. Very friendly inviting and felt like home. Good BBq style comfort food. Hot and fresh. Good cooks great service.
Great place. Josue is great!!! He was very nice and made us feel very welcome. I highly recommend for the chill atmosphere, good food, great service!! Bilingual en español tambien!!
Best breakfast place around! The Toro plate was amazing. Potatoes were perfectly cooked and everything is home made including their delicious biscuits and lemonade. We didn't realize that our server was the owner till we saw his name tag. Josue was always smiling and on top of things as was his crew.
Great no-nonsense food served by two delightful waitresses. I’m happy we stopped at this out-of-the-way roadside eatery. Excellent food.
Fantastic food and service. Great atmosphere. Very welcoming.
Toro Place Cafe: Salinas Hwy. (Breakfast over @ 11:30am no exceptions): excellent chil verde. Nice and chunky. Chunks of chili as well. 1st time I saw that. The biscuits and gravy are good too. Fresh biscuit. 2/1/2026. I would recommend and I will be back next time I head to Monterey. They are hustling and bustling. The food is all that matters at the end.
We stopped by for lunch on a Saturday and we were thrilled with our order. I had the grilled chicken club and spouse had the mushroom burger. 🍔 We enjoyed the patio dining and the food was terrific! If you are on Hwy 68 the Toro Cafe is a must stop!
Food was good. Pricey but close to Laguna Seca for a quick lunch. Fast service and great staff

Always a go-to spot when in town. Cinnamon rolls and Huevos Rancheros are amazing. You really cant go wrong with this local gem.
Service was quick, loved the decor and atmosphere, and the food was delicious. Parking might be an issue but it's worth it. Especially for the cinnamon roll
This is a must for breakfast and their lunches are great too! We moved out of state years ago, but every year when we come home for the holidays, we ALWAYS stop in at least once. Friendly and welcoming staff and environment , coffee is always hot and fresh, food is fresh and made to order. It’s very nostalgic for me, lots of memories. Love everything about this place! Until next year!

attended meeting with coworkers during mid-day. Lots of service staff available. Good quality food and drinks. Quieter in mid-afternoon than after happy hour starts. various size separate rooms for groups.
Nice, Historic Cafe. Good food, affordable prices. Nice staff. My only gripe is that they are only open for breakfast and lunch, which makes it difficult to find time to visit. It's kind of a tiny spot, and very busy on weekends, but definitely worth the wait if you have the time...
Food= great! Service=lacking! Empty coffee and water cups, needed utensils etc, we had to wave down server several times to get ATTENTION. Might as well being a self-service restaurant
Toro Cafe is very popular. I have never had a poor quality lunch. Had my favorite baconburger with all the trimmings. Their seasoned fries are very good too. Parking is tough at lunch time so go early or around 1 p.m.
Local, cute, great food, outdoor patio, a middle turn lane was finally added, so people dont wreck trying to get here. It's on hwy 68, north/east side of the road, it's a converted gas station, so you'll see the old pumps in front, if no parking visible, drive around back...there is an entrance there as well..enjoy..how ever the service is really slow..perhaps understaffed, it took 20 minutes to get a coffee , they have a counter to sit at inside, I am sure the service is great inside
This place is incredible. Went there when it was packed and still got a seat right away. The food will blow your mind. They make this burger on sourdough sliced bread that is so good.
Convenient location right off 68! A heads up it gets busy on weekends, especially when there are events happening at Toro Park. On those days, the parking can be tough. It's a cute, small restaurant. Not always fast or attentive service. Discount for those paying with cash. (As is happening everywhere, they're raising prices of everything, in particular of breakfast/egg dishes.)
Friendly and welcoming. Interesting decor in an old gas station. Sat outside next to a fountain on a covered, dog-friendly patio. Good omelette, very hot and plated well. My partner had crab and avocado Benedict which was good. Good coffee and quick refills. Relatively busy, but we sat and were served quickly. Would recommend for a decent breakfast spot.
Standard American cafe. Lean Reuben sandwich. There was nothing over the top about the meal. The staff was nice but the waitress was impersonal. Not that I needed any ‘how u doing sugar?’ Patronage. She had a mouth full of food when I entered the front door where there was a strange bar she stood behind and a separate register off to the right with another attendant. They rocked and rolled through orders serving folks efficiently. The outside patio looked nice and casual. Definitely an above average maintained diner with clean restrooms. It just felt out of place with such a busy Highway by the front door and weird parking by many folks. Something tells me that this whole area had a different vibe during John Steinbeck’s era. I should have checked out that museum in Salinas.
Had a patty melt and it was a scoche above average. Nothing to knock your shoes off or write to mom about but you can do worse.

Great tasting, home style, comforting meals served here. Can sit outside on covered patio or indoors. Parking is tricky, and be very careful getting off of, or back onto, highway 68. Worth going. Not fancy, casual dress, very comfortable.

I have not been to Toro cafe for a long time and I remember it being so delicious. Our waitress may have had a bad day not sure but she was unmotivated I was expecting a wonderful experience but its was not. She really set the tone I could have eaten at Denny's and had better service.
Waitress was abrupt, barely glanced at me(grey-haired senior woman), but had a friendly smile and greeting for my younger male friend. Hash browns were not the least bit crisp. I had bacon, eggs, hash browns, toast & coffee. It was “meh”. The best part of breakfast was the coffee, and prompt refills. My friend had a breakfast entree under $20, I believe. All in all, I regret the $10 tip, and the meal was definitely not worth $52 plus $10 tip. First and last time eating here.
We stopped in for a great breakfast today. The service was fast and the food was incredible. The holiday decor and atmosphere was a 4 star, however their lack of adequate heating was a real turn-off. They apparently don’t have central heating and tried using a small fireplace by one table. The remainder of the restaurant was so cold I couldn’t wait to leave. I have never been to a restaurant that was so unbearably cold!
Overall, good food. Be aware there is an added charge for sharing meals. Was a little disappointed that our waitress( a little older) didn’t let us know that they were out of country potatoes and took it upon herself to replace them with hash browns without asking. The restaurant is a bit crowded, but the food is definitely worth it.

Decent tasting reuben and potato salad but left feeling unsatiated by the meal.
The reuben sandwich and potato salad tasted good, but I didn't leave feeling satiated by my lunch.
The service is always friendly and great! But the food arrives cold and unacceptable. When communication regarding the cold food is given the response is “I’ll tell the cook.” Obviously the cook’s not getting the message. Cold food sucks.
Well we come here all the time and as busy as they get service is usually great. However one waitress cant seem to lose her attitude enough to just do her job. Horrible service today. Not a fan of the never seen before waitress...... 👎
On the afternoon of 7/21/2022 my 8 year old daughter and I stopped by the café to eat but first, she needed to use the restroom. I asked and after the classic "look up and down" we were directed to walk across Highway 68 (for safety we drove) to a restroom in the park. After she relived herself, we decided not to dine at Toro Place Café. I was truly surprised that a child was not allowed use a restroom. I could let my mind wander as to why this happened but what's the point. It turned out to be a good learning experience for my daughter as I was able to explain that you never spend your money with people who do not have common decency.
We always had a very good experience at the restaurant, but unfortunately today our experience was just horrendous. First of all my coffee was lukewarm. Then when my breakfast came, the potatoes were actually cold; not even warm. When told the waitresses, she took my plate and brought back after placing it microwave!!! It took another exactly 20 minutes before my wife plate arrived. By this time I was done with my all meat omelette. We also asked the potatoes to be done will, but unfortunately they were not done. We were very dissatisfied and disappointed. Hope the management take some measure to modify this situation.
I've been dragged to this place so many times and I can't figure out why this county loves it. While the building is historical and cool, the food is awful. The service is worse. The owner is odd, looming silently over tables while patrons eat. I've heard horrible arguments where the owner verbally abused and threatened his staff. It's not a comfortable place to eat and the food isn't even mid so why subject yourself to this, let alone pay for it. The biscuits are the only thing good here but you have to make sure Lety made them. Lety is awesome!
Got sausage for breakfast the center looked like it was a little pink my gut confirmed for two days after it was indeed undercooked
Tried going here three times for take out. All failed. First time they left me standing by the counter ignoring customers. Second time they had their open sign lit up and door open but they say they closed for a special event hours ago. They have this bad habit making it look open with an open door and lit light, leaving the hours open online, but closing shop. Third time they said they don't do lunch until later like noon.
I had very high expectations for this restaurant, since everyone always talks about them. I am sad to say it was one of the worst experiences. I am not a fan of The Wild Plum Cafe, but Toro Place took my number one spot on my worst experience list. I'm not that hard to please either. We walked in and it took at least 15 or more minutes for anyone to even acknowledge us. A simple we will be right with you would have been fine. After putting our names on the list we waited about 30 minutes, which is fine. Then we finally got called to the table and the waitress sat us down, literally threw the menus on the table, and walked away. Then it took another 15 minutes for someone to get our drink order and they disappeared for at least another 20 minutes. Finally the waiter came to take our order. He was very rude. He literally said, "What can I get you? (took the order, then...) Okay, next, next lets go!". He had the nerve to literally rush us after we were sitting there for ever just to order in time for breakfast to be "closed". He did not even ask if we had any questions about the menu. There we are waiting another 30 minutes for the food to come out and he brings us each our toast order, with no butter, and before our food. The food didn't come out for another 10 minutes. By that time my toast was cold and he did not want to bring out fresh toast. The excuse was we are "closed" for breakfast. I gave him a dirty look, but I just accepted his stupid comment and put jam on my cold toast. My omelette was pretty good, but my potatoes were on the verge of being raw still. After eating our food we walked up to the counter to pay and the lady was literally just standing there doing nothing and didn't acknowledge that I was clearly standing there to pay or had a potential question. I just stood there for a few minutes and finally mentioned that I needed to pay and she gave me a death stare. I paid and I usually never not tip, but that day was horrible. I sadly will never return.
I had heard great things and seen photos and reviews of this place online so I was really excited to try it. It was very disappointing and it did not meet up to my expectations. Food was ok but very greasy. They stop serving breakfast fairly early at 11:30am so if you are not an early riser or have things to do and don't make it here before then, they make it a point you cannot order breakfast. The service was bad. When we walked in a lady in a rude tone said we are not serving breakfast. They must get late crowds a lot, however there is still a nice way to say things and approach people, especially if you are in a customer service oriented business. We said we were ok to have lunch no worries, but already felt they didn't want our business and were shooing us away. Then she said to sit where ever we wanted but we had never been there before so didn't know where to sit. She did not mention indoor/outdoor seating, etc. We saw outdoor seating and squeezed through the front counters to the back patio area. The outdoor area is quaint/nice but very outdated. There is clearly old decor from Xmas that looks like it's been there for ages and no one cares to take it down or update the place. I feel like this explains the whole place- it's like they don't put love into the business, no love into the food. The coffee was weak so that was also a let down and there was a cat hanging out in the patio area and I got cat hair in my coffee and I am allergic. The server was just very rude/cold which made us uncomfortable. We wanted to support local businesses and like this place but it just wasn't a good experience we decided we will not be back. I feel that if you are in a customer service position you definitely need to be more welcoming, warm. It's like she didn't want our business. It was strange since I did see her being nice to some of the other customers. This is unfortunate. I did not want to give such a bad review but we felt something had to be said.
Maybe it’s just a burgers but do not get the sourdough it is drenched sorry pardon me it is drowned in huge amounts of oil. I can genuinely feel my heartbeat just racing. The meat tasted like high school package meat. Sorry to say this but is it it is an all Caucasian community so if you are a color or have any taste in your life please do not go here.

I tried to get a table here a few weeks ago on a Saturday morning. It was busy as expected and I was standing right in front of the register waiting to be greeted and put on a waiting list. I waited for 15 minutes and I didn’t even get an acknowledgment from the staff. They walked past me multiple times and avoided eye contact. I used to be a server and I understand things get overwhelming but it only takes a second to greet a guest and let them know someone will be with them soon. I felt like a ghost and looking around the room I wondered if my ethnicity was why I was ignored. Horrible first impression and I won’t return. There’s so many other good breakfast spots around.
My first experience here at the toro cafe. All I can say is that I experienced terrible customer service, the food was not the best and not to mention we were seated in the worst seat of the restaurant! Right next to the disposal area. Honestly a shame since this will be my first and last experience coming here.
This is the first time I have ever felt motivated to review a restaurant. Food was bad, hair in potato salad, staff is rude.
No service. Everyone around us received their utensils and menus when seated. We did not. Two tables that were seated after us received their utensils and drinks in a reasonable time. Orders from those parties were placed as well. Finally, when we recieved menus, we were told firmly that we had two minutes to order from the breakfast selections. Okay. The crab benedict sauce was great. Maybe a tablespoon on crab on the Englsih muffins. Avocado was very good. The fruit cup was delish. We got the sense we were not welcomed to be there.
I have been here in the past and I had a great experience, but today my daughter and her friend went in for brunch and had a horrible experience. Walked in with coffee from the shop next door and was told next time to not come in with outside drinks, asked for waters and water was never brought to them. They felt they were being rude while they noticed they were being kind to all the other customers but them. Shocked to hear this as I have been here before. Disappointed.
I wanted to like this place but service was extremely poor, staff ignored us took a long time to order, get drinks and silverware as other tables were getting great service. Took a long time to even pay are bill for such small portions on the crab Benedict. Or to have staff tell us we had 2 minutes to order breakfast before they switched to lunch as another table whi showed up 15 minutes after we did and no mention to them the breakfast menu was over. Better places with better service to eat unless you like being ignored.

We were very dissatisfied and disappointed. Hope the management take some measure to modify this situation.
