Weekend trip to the Catskills for wedding planning, looking for a couple of nice dinners. Found Casa Susanna listed many times for great NY eats and its didn’t disappoint. The masa program here is turning out some incredible tortillas and tamales. Recommend all of the masa dishes. The smoked lamb barbacoa is incredible and the pork belly tamal is ridiculous. Both just melt in your mouth. The interior is warm and comfortable. Eat in the lobby area if it’s winter, you’ll have your meal basically by the fireplace. And the service is top notch, Chef Hernandez served and explained many of the dishes himself, he seems such a friendly person. Overall, this is the best Mexican food I’ve had in NY to date and also one of the best restaurants in NY, regardless of cuisine. Just a great experience, wish this pace was closer to home!
First time for dinner tonight. Beautoful artistic presentation with even more amazing flavor. one of the most flavorful meals I’ve ever had. We tried the Smoked lamb barbacoa, beef tongue, and Tamal Tonto (heirloom yellow corn), Pork Belly, Fermented Mole Negro, Crema, Pickled Habanero Red Onions .. As well as the Tlacoyo (heirloom blue corn), Feta Cheese, Sweet Potato, Salsa Negra and the Beef tartare. .. honestly everything blew our minds. nice portions. we had to try the chocolate gelato with puffed rice and hazelnut milk ice chips which was to die for . the service was personable, kind and attentive . cant wait to come back soon. Thanks Casa Susanna!!
We went here for Valentine’s Day brunch and fell in love with the flavorful delicious Mexican food. We had great service and the atmosphere was cozy. Gluten free options are available and heirloom corn tortillas are also made in house.
Delicious all around! The flavors were so unique but blended well together. We especially loved the tlacoyo. The service was also 10/10.
Amazing food! One of the best Mexican meals we've had on the east coast. Be an adventurous eater, lots of interesting flavor combinations. If it's still on the menu make sure you get the pork belly and the tetela. If anywhere in the area for a weekend or a trip, a must do dinner.
Totally loved this place, incredible food, incredible service our server went out of their way to make us feel so special! They even made us an opossum themed Molote in honor of our celebration and obsession of opossums! Love love loved our meal here!
Casa Susanna is a must when traveling to Hudson or the Catskills. Some of the best modern yet homey Mexican food around. We dined here for both dinner and brunch during our trip from NYC and cannot wait to go back again. Everything we ordered was perfect, especially the masa, beef tartare, mushrooms, duck, and breakfast tacos. The team was so helpful and walked us through the menu, answering any questions along the way. The cocktails and NA drinks were great as well. Special mention to Zen, Sally, and Micah for taking such good care of us. We’ll be back soon!!!
If this isn't the Hudson Valley's/Catskills' closest thing to Michelin standards, I don't know what is. In an area where increasing tourism enables restaurants to get away with a lot (A LOT), Casa Susanna's authentic commitment to creativity, culture, quality, and service stand out. You've never cared about masa or vegetables as much as you will here. They change their menu often, and even when a dish falls short in your subjective opinion, your respect for it doesn't skip a beat. They care way more about their own standards for cuisine than making money, and it shows. Casa Susanna is always the number 1 on any list of local restaurants I recommend to people. Bravo, you are exceptional.
What an absolutely top notch, unique and incredible Mexican restaurant and bar. This is absolutely a step above. The food is inventive and made with such attention to detail and care, while remaining accessible. Both the bar and restaurant areas are warm and inviting. And the drinks are inventive and at the level of a high end cocktail bar. Hands down one of the best restaurants in the Hudson Valley
Very cute and cozy restaurant, part of the Camptown Hotel. The food was excellent and good portions, though it is quite expensive. We had to wait for our table despite having a reservation, but the staff were very hospitable and friendly and waited on us while we waited for the table. The area seems quite remote, with not many, if any, attractions or shops close by. I would go again for the food but not for the town. I do recommend going at least once though.
Get the Masa. I repeat, get the Masa. Dear Chef, I’ll be dreaming of the Tetela… Sam, thank you again for the great service and taking care of my girlfriend on her birthday! The drinks are amazingly yumski, the wine too, and the vibe is cool (in the bar). Great music, great hangs, don’t ever change. Unless it’s for the better, but that’ll be hard to do. Thank you !
Casa Susanna is a really interesting place — stylish, thoughtful, and unlike most restaurants in the area. The setting has a warm, mid-century Catskills feel, and the atmosphere strikes a great balance between relaxed and refined. The food shows real creativity and intention — clearly the work of a team that takes their craft seriously. Not every dish hit perfectly for me, but the overall experience was excellent. Service was attentive, the cocktails inventive, and the whole evening felt special without being pretentious. All in all, Casa Susanna earns a solid four stars from me — polished, distinctive, and worth the trip to Leeds.
Visited Catskills for my birthday and I HAD to come here. Mainly to support a Latin modern restaurant. You have to make a reservation in advance. The ambiance and aesthetic of it gives me camp pulp fiction vibes. It was pretty late when we got here so we couldn’t see anything outside of the window which added to the vibe. We started off with mocktails, The Spice girl (deep red), which had a hibiscus pomegranate undertone. The real star was the Face Plant (green), which was more of a lime coconut flavor. Not at all overwhelming and very refreshing. They did their thing with that one! My friend and I both ordered the lamb which was good and it came with warm tortillas. The appetizers are creative. I decided to go with the Pistachio tamal for dessert per my servers recommendation and it was 🤌🏼💋. I loved it! It was steamed and not too sweet and melted in my mouth. Go here if you want to be bougie lol
I came here for my birthday a year or so ago and I’m literally going back next week because of how amazing it was. The food was so delicious, fresh, and you can tell everything is homemade. Such a unique restaurant, beautiful atmosphere, and overall just so good. If you’re ever in the area or want to take the trip from nyc, it’s so worth it.
The food can only be described as magical. Honestly one of the best Mexican food meals I've ever had. I highly recommend going back over and over again to try all of their offerings as they change through the year. Hard to pick favorites, we had the duck breast black shallot mole the squash blossom and can't stop dreaming about those dishes. I wish I could swim in the black shallot mole.
Rustic appeal, excellent service, food is well executed and tasty. Normal portions, very flavourful, and houghtfully prepared. The scallops-fresh were a hit. Lamb barbacoa was moist and tasty. Complements to the chef! Would I come again? Yes. Better than most restaurants in the vicinity.
Had an incredible meal here while spending a long weekend in the Hudson area. The masa were absolutely standouts, and anyone eating here is doing themselves a disservice by not having them. Also shoutout to the service - our waiter was attentive and knowledgeable about the whole menu, giving us some great recommendations and making sure our experience was special. An absolute must for anyone dining in the area.
Above and beyond. Food, drinks, desert, vibe, presentation, decor and service. All above and beyond. I’m still on a high from how awesome this experience was. I think we ordered one of everything. Exciting. Adventurous. Classic. My tastebuds were ecstatic. The interior and overall build was such a pleasure to hang in. Can’t wait to go back.
What a joy to find this place! We were expecting a very good meal, but we definitely weren't planning on being blown away by every single thing we ordered! Not sure how to describe the cuisine here--maybe "upscale modern Oaxacan"?--but just know that you are in good hands and every dish will be an absolute winner. We loved every minute and every bite!
My partner and I have been wanting to check out Casa Susanna for a while and I’m so glad we finally did. I was curious if it would live up to the hype and it definitely did. The food is so fresh and flavorful, the cocktails are delicious and the service and vibe are wonderful. We will definitely be back many times! Thank you again!
Came here for an early dinner on a Saturday night. We had a reservation and arrived early. They didn’t let us come in but were told we could wait at one of the tables outside. They didn’t make us feel welcome or even bring us water to drink outside while we were waiting, so the customer service initially seemed lacking . Once we were able to go in, everyone was nice and hospitable. The drinks were strong and delicious. The food was very interesting and flavorful. We had the rib eye, asian pear dish that is perfectly sweet with a dash of spice which I loved, bok choy, pork belly, endive salad, a dish with beans and cheese, and maybe a couple of other things. Pretty pricey but good. The steak had a lot of fat on it but was still enjoyable. All in all, a fun dinner out and I’m glad we came to check it out!
The rave reviews are a bit off base, in our opinion. The ambiance is cute, we sat in the “lobby area” where there was a fireplace and a few other tables. Our waiter was lovely, knowledgeable and polite. The menu, however, was overly complicated, we needed almost everything to be explained to us before we could even begin considering what to order. The cocktails we selected were enjoyable. To start we had the pear and pickled vegetable dishes (good, but nothing extraordinary) and the mushroom masa, which was tasty, though we realized we don’t love corn used in the way it was. The steak for two that we ordered had good taste at first, though was tough to cut (was it the knife? The steak itself?) and very fatty. The broccoli was tasty. We decided to skip dessert.
The bad first - we ordered the “most popular ordered dish” which was the lamb barbacoa….. the most bland lamb I’ve ever had. And needed more than just salt and pepper. And I’m not one of these people that loves salt, but it tasted like lamb braised in water. That’s it. And for $40, it should be seasoned to perfection. The drinks were simply ok. Nothing out of the ordinary and $20 for a drink? Then they should be a little more creative. Now the good. The Masa appetizers were 10/10. Would order every single one of them again. Also got the tamal tonto which was a corn meal with pork belly on top. Good experience, but one of those spots I would recommend but not return to.
