At Sal's Pizza, we're thrilled to share our passion for serving up delicious pies that bring people together. Located in the heart of Chapel Hill, our cozy spot is a favorite among locals and visitors alike. We've heard it from our customers - our food is on point! From perfectly seasoned sausage subs to mouthwatering meatball subs with just the right amount of sauce and flavor, every bite is a delight. Our team takes pride in ensuring that every order is crafted with love, and we're grateful for kind service like Steph's, who made sure our slices were delivered safely on chilly November days.
Sal's Pizza is a local favorite known for its generous portions and friendly service. Customers rave about the pasta dishes, especially the penne alla vodka, and the extensive menu. Some report inconsistent quality and occasional order errors.
Tip: The menu is extensive, so look it up online beforehand. If ordering pizza with toppings, double-check your order to ensure accuracy.
I went to go vote by the nearby senior center and I was thirsty from walking. I went in to get a bottle of water and the cashier gave it to me (for free). Thanks so much!
We had driven past here many times and never stopped. Now i'm regretting it. What a pleasant surprise. I had the meatball sub and added a few mushrooms and a few olives on it, and It was fantastic. The meatballs were seasoned perfectly and the sauce, O Yes! The sandwich was not soggy, because just the right amount of sauce was used. You gotta love the amount of cheese they put on. Hubby had the sausage and peppers, and it looked amazing. Very generous on sausage, and peppers. The fries were perfectly browned and just the right amount of crisp. Cute place and good service. We will definitely be back for the pizza.
I showed a bit early for my order and waited out front for it. Steph was kind enough to walk my slices out in chilly November weather. Great food A+ service!
Went on the way to Charolette I got Lasagna my wife got Spaghetti. Both came with salad. Food was freshly cooked. They have a big menu of pizza and pasta. Friendly Can dine inside and also have tables outside. If you like fresh hot and good taste I would go
Sal's pizza was pretty good! We had the Caprese Pizza which was delicious. The only complaints I have are that there was a little too much dough and not enough cheese. I would come back again though and try their other pizzas.
Have had Sal's twice: once with some friends for dinner and another for lunch. My friends & I loved the pasta dishes, good portions & flavor. The pizza was also quite good. No soggy bottom issue as some have mentioned, maybe I got lucky? Maybe it's a preference for some folks who like crusts being more firm? My pizza had a nice crunch to it. Wait time was reasonable and service was good. Would order again.
Saw Sal's when going to my doctor. Looked them up online to see what things they had on the menu. The Caprese pizza caught my eye. I asked for extra cheese and got it! The ingredients are very fresh and you can taste the goodness. The crust is very good... I don't normally eat crust, but I did on this pizza. It's a little more expensive than I would normally pay, but once in a while for a good pizza, I will splurge. The inside is small, but there are several booths if you want to eat inside. There is also outside seating. The service was good and it didn't take long for my order to be ready.
I've ordered the same meal from this place several times but this time the penne pasta was very dry even though I ordered beef with it and it had no cheese at all on it I also usually get some type of bread with the meal but didn't receive it I will not be going back to this place again
Not sure what is going on here. Posting this for owners awareness, mostly. The last two times we have ordered from here our order has been incorrect, even though it was clearly placed and read back correctly. We only ever order one or two pizzas with two toppings each, it's not hard to get it right. Last time my husband arrived to pick it up at the time they said it would be ready and waited nearly 30 minutes extra. When he peeked at it before bringing it home he realized it was completely incorrect. When he mentioned it was incorrect to the staff, another customer nearby said to him "Well, welcome to Sal's." Seems like this is a common theme here. In addition, the pizza here is expensive. Like NYC expensive. $35 for a medium with two toppings is insane. If you understand before going that you will be getting an overpriced pizza likely made incorrectly than you will likely not be disappointed. Management, you need to step it up especially if you want to keep charging the people that much for bread and cheese.
Oh boy, this isn't easy. Sal's is one of the very first Chapel Hill eateries I had when moving here 11 years ago. I lived right next to the family. They even babysat my kid. His favorite food in CH for years was Sal's. It's still his favorite Pizza, unless were going full five-star Napoli. For Halloween I asked him to choose the family dinner and he instantly said Sal's. Because of time crunch we went with Sal's "preferred" online order/delivery service "Slice." I ordered online, paid for it ($$$), then got the delivery estimate window of 28-45 min. Doable for the win. Then we subsequently got an update of a drastically later delivery window, cutting into the holiday plans to wait for our dinner. I considered cancelling because it definitely disrupted our nights plans. The way I was directed for of altering the order or tracking delivery (I try to meet them out front since it's a big complex) was to download the Slice app, and no. I'm not being forced to do that. So we waited until well after the end of the delivery window with no more contact and just had to leave for the night, without dinner, to go celebrate Halloween. Later that night I got texts about trying to contact me to help deliver the food, but I was far off and that ship had long since sailed. I contacted my bank to try to get my money back. When I did see the texts and could reply, I responded to them, but they came back that they didn't know who I was trying to get ahold of and if it was in regards to an Uber trip then contact them with my original phone number???Getting home many hours later I find my security doorbell shows a neighbor coming to my door with a mis-delivered pizza three hours after it had been picked up by the driver. It was left at my door, smashed and cold. And that, only thanks to a neighbor. It went right to the dumpster. I get that online ordering and delivery services are not the actual business themselves, but they steered me to this partner business and one, or both of them, failed utterly. I'll still say that Sal's pizza is super good and staff have been decent since the owner change years ago. Prices aren't cheap, my large pizza came out to well over $5 a slice before tip and delivery. For a whole pie. It's going to be hard to go back for a while.
Second time in two orders they have gotten it wrong. First time was not so bad but they did not understand how to put toppings on only half of a pizza even though it was made clear. This time I ordered a vegan pizza with two specific toppings and they repeated that order back to me. Stated 25-30min wait. I arrived 25 minutes after ordering and was told it would be another 15 minutes of wait time. Pizza came out 40 minutes after ordering and was incorrect. Apparently there is a vegetarian pizza on the menu (with a lot of vegetables) and whoever was making pizzas decided to make that, since in her eyes vegan=vegetarian. They confirmed that they used vegan cheese so I accepted the pizza as I did not want to wait 40 more minutes for another one. The last time this happened I had asked to speak to a manager to offer feedback and was told one would call me but one never did. Management, if you read this please work to run a tighter ship at your homestead location. Even one of the guys who was waiting for his pizza after hearing me talk to myself about not wanting to have them remake of pizza said, "welcome to Sal's" as if to suggest this was the norm. The food is tasty, even if it's a little expensive, but estimates for when food it should be ready need to be more accurate. As well, whoever is making pizzas does not seem to be understanding clearly offered instructions by the customer and the employee taking the order. I rarely see an adult beyond what looks to be a young worker there so I do believe there could be higher levels of quality control from somebody actually in the organization's management.
First time order the Chicago style deep dish pizza with half topping is meat lover and the other half is deluxe toppings. Not quite what I expected. It’s toooo much cheese on it not enough topping. Didn’t really like it. One of my kids did not like it at all. So I kinda had to eat the other slice which got me kinda sick. About two years ago they made better pizza. They still at the same plaza just changed little bigger nicer location.
CAUSED ALLERGIC REACTION, DISGUSTING ATTITUDE. DO NOT order from here! They put regular mozzarella on my child's pizza when I ordered non-dairy cheese due to their dairy allergy. We have ordered many times from Sal's pizza and overlooked the fact that it is greasy af for everyone else's order so that my kid could have pizza with vegan cheese. When I called to ask about it I was told it was my problem and my fault and that they don't even write down the order, so it couldn't possibly be their error. The girl that works there is extremely rude and purposefully hung up on me several times when I was trying to tell them what happened. Thank God for the quick response from Chapel Hill Fire and EMS, and the UNC Pediatric ER and Children's Hospital, as my child had to be admitted for observation. Thankfully, they will be ok. All of this is due to THEIR negligence. I will NEVER forget how rudely I was treated by those people at Sal's. I won't miss eating their food anyway - it's greasy, the portions are small, it's expensive, and they can't manage to put the correct ingredients together, even when it is specified that there is an allergy. No refund, just denials and asinine, immature behavior. There are so many better options in Chapel Hill! Edit: Bring it.
We ordered pizza last night for the first time since they opened back up. We ordered $36 of pizza, wings, and mozzarella sticks, and gave a good cash tip. When we opened our pizza it had been clearly mishandled and all the cheese and toppings were in the corner of the box, all of the food was cold and the pizza was under cooked. I am really bummed as this has always been one of my favorite pizza places. We wont be ordering again, or suggesting to anyone. This is not a good way to re-open a business. Mind you they didn't even have a mile to drive for delivering
