The Pig is known for its North Carolina-style BBQ, especially the pulled pork which is tender and pairs well with the vinegar-based BBQ sauce. Hushpuppies and coleslaw are also popular. Some customers have noted a unique taste in the hushpuppies, possibly due to shared cooking oil.

Tip: The pulled pork is a must-try, especially if you're new to North Carolina BBQ. Be aware that the hushpuppies might have a slight fishy taste.

The place is nice. It wasn’t what I was expecting when thinking of BBQ, but it’s amazing. The people are nice and the food is fire! The portions are good for price. I originally thought the price was a bit much, but when getting the portion it makes sense.
First time here and first time trying “North Carolina” bbq. I had the pulled pork, hush puppies, and fried okra. The pork was excellent and definitely a different flavor than KC or Memphis style bbq. It was a bit tangier, which I liked. I did try the bbq sauce, found found that the pork was tender and flavorful enough I didn’t need the extra sauce. The hushpuppies . . . I’ve never seen them like this (I’m used to the round ones), but these ones tasted better than others I’ve had. I also really enjoyed the fried okra (the okra wasn’t mushy; I could still tell it was okra). The mound of sliced pickles they give you is also unique. They’ve got a dill flavor, but with some added sweetness that I didn’t hate. Would definitely go back and try some of their other options.
This was a recommendation from the book Where Chef’s Eat and WOW we were not disappointed. Dare I say, that portion of pulled pork was perfect. No notes. The fried okra? Divine. Perfectly crisp and seasoned. And if you’re a fan of pickles, this is your place. Pickles are served as a side. Like, a pile of sweet, crisp pickles (see photos). Food is affordable and portions are generous!
Every bite of it was good. The bbq sandwich was tangy, the hush puppies were thin and crispy, and the mac and cheese was hot and flavorful. This was the sandwich and two sides— each of the sides were big enough to share.
05/26/25 update- We came back to try their Viet-inspired menu including the crispy pig ears, viet pork cheek sandwich, and bbq banh mi tacos. Everything was delicious! The pork cheek was tender and succulent. The pig ears were addictively crispy. The bbq tacos had a viet nuoc cham sauce and salsa verde on it, which gave it umami complexity that is hard to describe but enjoyable. They also a freezer with their house-made meat products like bacon and ham. The bbq plate hits the spot. I get their sandwiches for takeout. So far, the bbq sandwich, Reuben, and Carolina cubano have been excellent!
No frills BBQ. You come for the meat, period. I got the pulled pork platter with pickles and coleslaw, and asked for the collard greens in place of the hush puppies. Loved everything except for the coleslaw. The flavors were fine, but I couldn’t get past the minced texture. I felt like I was eating pre-chewed coleslaw. 😂 But I wouldn’t hesitate to come back here. The meat was tender and delicious, with no fat or gristle. Hubby had the pulled pork sandwich (he said the minced coleslaw was fine in the sandwich, by the way), and a side of the beet and blue salad, all of which he enjoyed.
Our search for authentic Carolina bbq has come to a delicious end. Southern bbq can overly be too sweet, not well balanced. The Pig gives you smokiness , acidity, sweetness, saltiness that I crave in a well rounded meal. Simultaneously eating the fatty pork with the delicious pickles really was satisfying. The pork plate is my go to. Some of their best fixings are the sprouts and shrooms and fried okra ( best I’ve ever had).
We tried the salad - wow, great vinaigrette! BBQ sandwich tasty( red sauce). Brisket to die for. Oh wait, the pickles killed it too. Natural fries topped off a nice dinner on the patio. Oh and craft beer on tap. Make this your stop when going to CH from the north. We'll be back!
We enjoyed the dining environment (you find your seats yourself and put your dishes away afterwards. It feels pretty relaxed for us). The food is great too! (We got catfish plate, and bbq pork sandwich). Will go again.
My experience at the pig was nothing short of spectacular. Chicken was tasty and juicy and the hush puppies were nice. However, the star of the show was the Mac and cheese, absolutely delicious. Definitely pop by for some delicious bbq for a fair price.
Great Bbq place with international accents. The brisket po boy and Elote were great.
The Pig in Chapel Hill, NC. Frankly, I think this restaurant has a terrible name. It sounds like a place for swine lovers. I wonder how long they have been in business. I'm not a fan of pork at all. Pork without some rice wine and ginger to get rid of the stink is just gross, unless you char it so much that you can't taste anything else. And don't get me started on the fat. I know lard used to be a luxury in China back then, but now I say bring on the beef.
Above average to very good food. Ordered BLT, Tongue Tacos and the Hogdog all proteins were amazing. Got dank nugs ,potato salad ,baked beans and fried okra. Probably best fried okra I’ve ever eaten.
I think the pig is the best barbecue in Chapel Hill. I generally get the pulled pork plate. Top notch. Their fried green tomatoes are possibly the best I've ever had. Hush puppies are great. The coleslaw is great. My wife loves the pickles, but not my thing. The collard greens can be great but sometimes are a bit salty. Stick with the Brussels sprouts instead. I just can't say enough good things about the pig. I eat here more than any restaurant in Chapel Hill.
Good selection. Good food. Reasonable prices. Friendly gal at the counter. The BBQ sandwich is as good as I've had since moving to NC. The sweet sauce is very good. The "industrial strength" hot sauce is Texas Pete's, i.e. flavored vinegar; nothing Texan or hot about it.
This was my first visit and I can't wait to go back! The BLT was perfection. Sampled the potato salad, macaroni and cheese, fries, hush puppies and the home made pickles were the best thing I never knew I was missing.
Outdoor seating is best ambience but there is indoor as well. Great brisket, ribs, okra... I don't even like hush puppies usually but these, sweet, light, delicious
Fried green tomatoes, fried okra, and fried squash, oh my! I can feel myself getting fatter, but it was worth it. The food here is the best. Casual dining at it's most casual, be prepared to DIY at this place. Go up and put in your own order, grab your own drinks and silverware, and clean up after yourself when you are done. Luckily they don't have you cooking your own food too, because whoever they have doing that certainly knows what they are doing! It can get a bit pricey, so if you looking for BBQ on a budget this might not be the place to go, but if you are willing to splurge a bit, I assure you it is worth every penny.
Went here for lunch before work. And was not disappointed. I tried the hush puppies and bbq sammie. Then next time the bbq sammie and fried pigs ears salad. The pigs ear salad is amazing. My first time ordering it. But I will keep doing it when I see it on their menu. Also try the banana pudding. They had 3 flavors one being girl scout cookies ( thin mint ). So they are very creative in the kitchen.
This is the local BBQ place you want to go to when you visit Chapel Hill. It was recommended by my hotel staff and they were accurate in their description. It's not a chain restaurant, it just serves great BBQ. I ordered the ribs dinner and could barely eat half of the meal thanks to big boy portion size. Seveal choices of local brew and craft beers were available and I was able to taste teat until I found one I liked. Highly recommend.
Authentic southern BBQ! The portions are huge, and the sides are great. The apple cider vinegar pickles are like candy. Try the brisket! We get a pound of brisket to go and enjoy it in lunches. My fiance loves the hot, fresh hush puppies, but I prefer the slaw.
Dropped by after walking in the park across the street. The cashier recommended the pastrami Reuben which they smoked there. It was excellent; even made with Russian dressing and not Thousand Island. Best Reuben I've had in NC in years! I'll be back to try more of their menu.
Best BBQ in the area. There is a better known BBQ joint not far from here, but they have never lived up to the hype. The Pig has no hype but great food. They smoke their own cheese from the BBQ pit and use it to make mac n cheese! The pork is cooked hot enough to give it a good flavorful crust that is mixed into to the pulled pork. It's best to bring a friend and split a sides plate so that you can try a few with your meat.
Wow. This was the best dine-in experience I have had in a while. I got the beef brisket plate and it was perfectly cooked, and the flavoring was amazing. For sides I recommend switching out the slaw for Mac and cheese because the Mac and cheese is just fabulous. The pickles were also extremely fresh and my overall experience with the workers was excellent. 10/10
Do you love pastrami? The Pig makes the best pastrami I’ve had in the triangle. It’s smoky, tender, and delicious. Makes a great pastrami sandwich or Ruben. My favorite indulgence there, though, is the pimento cheese fries with bacon. Their pickles are also excellent. And of course all kind of bbq.
The pulled pork sandwich was delicious. The is salads for vegan tastes and a pickles veggie tray that is fantastic.
We had Brisket, Pulled Pork, Mac & Cheese, Baked Beans, and Potato salad at a Birthday party yesterday. Everything was Excellent! Meats were moist and flavorful; veggies absolutely delicious!
Our first time trying North Carolina BBQ and it was fantastic. There is plenty of parking. Location is easy to find. You order at the counter and your food is brought out to you. The specials are on the board. There are laminated menus for everything else. We tried the BBQ sandwich and the BBQ tempeh with hush puppies and pimento cheese fries. Everything was excellent. The food arrives very quickly. The vinegar works so well with the food. The pimento cheese fries are crispy, cheesy and tender all at the same time. The pickles were the biggest hit at our table- crunchy, sweet, very, very tasty! The service is excellent. Everything self serve is well marked, clean, well-stocked. And the staff are very, very attentive. Definitely check The Pig out! :)
Great food! They offer gluten-free bread for sandwiches, and most of their meats (aside from the bologna, which is shared fryer) are gluten-free. Tastes great. Good portions. Friendly vibe, great staff. Not a long wait, just a somewhat small establishment, so everyone hears everyone else's conversations. The good thing about the size though, is that you get to eat with your eyes. Would love to eat here again!
My girlfriend and I were pleasantly surprised. The restaurant is perfect if you want to order your food, sit down , have minimal interaction and eat excellent BBQ. Their brisket was melt in your mouth, the cole slaw was very good (not too mayo), homemade pickles were incredible, hush puppies were the best I’ve ever had (very crispy but moist on the inside), and their nachos were unreal. I went to The Pit in Durham, and that was more expensive and just not as good as The Pig. I highly suggest you come here and give it a try.
Good Carolina BBQ, good vegetarian fish sandwiches, very casual. A bit of outdoor seating, but nothing special. Caution: during school days at noon this place is sometimes full of teenagers! Edit; there's better outdoor seating now. I like the pickle plate if you like trying fun pickles things.
Very nice staff. Great food. Loved the mac&cheese and baked beans. The BBQ meat seemed more like that served in the mountains but you have a choice of the red smoky sauce or the vinegar sauce typical of this area. The Pig is the place to go for good eating and welcoming and friendly staff.
I should eat here again. Tried the pork sandwich and brisket plate. Flavors of meats and sides were good, if a bit muted. I liked it but am comparing the brisket to Texas where I lived the last 20 years and am just developing a taste for pulled pork with east Carolina vinegar based sauce.
I've eaten at The Pig many times over the years and I've always enjoyed the food. I mostly eat the pulled pork BBQ, which I've found to be the best in the local area. I've also tried the catfish, which was excellent, a few of their sandwiches, including a fried balogna sandwhich, which was surprisingly really good too. So for me the food been consistently great, the service always friendly and the restaurant a comfortable place to enjoy a meal and relax.
We ended up here by happy accident. The food was excellent. I especially enjoyed the fried okra and fresh pickles. Some of the best BBQ and sides I've had in a long time. Highly recommend!
First time trying this restaurant and we will return. Food was excellent. Seasoned exceptionally well. Now believe this will be our go to for BBQ when going to Duke for doctors appointments. Highly recommend.
The Pig catered our post-wedding lunch and they were wonderful! So easy to work with, communicative, very affordable, and -- most importantly -- delicious! We had many out-of-town guests who had never had NC BBQ, and they couldn't stop raving about it! I'm a vegetarian, and I love their tempeh BBQ. Plus, their sides are incredible -- we got mac and cheese, baked beans, coleslaw, and grits. I highly recommend The Pig for your event!
Delicious food and friendly service! Definitely will be returning
Had the BLT and it was very tasty. The pickle plate was also a crowd pleaser. Will definitely be back.
Salad was fantastic and customer service a rare treat. We had the beet n blue salad and it was so big, we barely could close the lid on the large take out container. Fresh greens, plentiful pecans and the balsamic dressing was delicious. I wanted to drink the dressing! My husband enjoyed the bbq sandwich very much but I have to say, Trey was the wonderful surprise of the evening. He was so pleasant, knowledgeable about their offerings and eager to please. We will be going back often. We ate in but took the salad home as it was so darn huge. Good bang for your buck.
This is a place we dreamt of going to. Their pulled pork sandwich is to die for. Yes, they do put a coleslaw on it, and it doesn't look appetizing, BUT try it. It was really good on the sandwich. The pickles were so good. I am not a fan of the bread and butter in the store because they are too sweet. Not these, the perfect ratio between sweet and sour. The hush puppies OMG, perfect consistency and came out warm. The atmosphere had great music and you could still talk to the people you came with. Please try this place....you won't be sorry.
Best food in Chapel Hill! Found this place when visiting my brother in the area and was shocked to find such a gem. Ordered the beef brisket and it was absolutely amazing. Also has great vegetarian options that my friend loved. The servers are also super nice and sweet!
Stopped by here for the first time after having driven by several times. I’ve been looking for a place that serves really good smoked brisket and let me tell you, this place did NOT disappoint! The service was excellent and the food came out fast. The inside is cozy, and there is plenty of outside seating too. But good lord, the brisket was to die for! It was perfectly smoked and well seasoned, fatty and tender with a nice bark. The house made pickles complimented the meat so well. The mac n cheese bites were crispy, well seasoned, and creamy cheesy on the inside. The hush puppies were like little crunchy nuggets of joy. And the housemade banana pudding was literally so good it made me cry. It was honestly the perfect comfort meal after a really long week. We will 100% be back!
The BEST Italian Grinder, ever!! My coworker turned me on to the place when I ate the BEST ribs at his BBQ, last year!! I had forgotten about this place until he said he was bringing some ribs to the office party next week!! I couldn't wait!! Yes, I bought half rack ribs for dinner tonight and had half sandwich and added chips for lunch!! Now, the sandwich isn't on the menu but it's on the board inside restaurant!! Absolutely, mouthwatering delicious and flavorful!! 😁👍
Gotta be NC bbq. Pulled pork sandwich with coleslaw and vinegar sauce will have you questioning the laws of physics... and any other laws you are accustomed to. I could eat here 7 days a week but they closed Sunday. Good atmosphere and better food. If you from any corner of NC you'll appreciate this place.
Delicious, not pretentious, and friendly neighborhood bbq joint. The pimento cheese fries are to die for, and the fried green tomatoes are the best in town. Their pickles are addictive so watch out! So far everything we've tried has been spectacular. Especially if you hit it on a day when cheese grits and/or the pastrami are on special. Pictured are pork tongue tacos, catfish plate, and cheese fries.
Cute decor, great food! I got the large smoked, glazed, grilled chicken with slaw, hush puppies, fries and sliced vinegar cucumbers for $15. It was all delicious. Definitely want to try the pork, ribs, fried catfish and fried green tomatoes. Right off Weaver Dairy Rd, Chapel Hill/Carrboro. Open M-Sat 11-9. Mmm, mmm, good.
Truly artisan local food experience, Amazing food (especially if you are a pork enthusiast) and a good selection of beer on tap
The Pig catered our wedding welcome party and we could not have been happier with their service. Tamika was super responsive when planning everything, the delivery was prompt, and the food was delicious. One of the best parts was that they were able to accomodate all dietary restrictions (gluten free and vegan). I highly recommend them for your catering needs!
We ordered the pulled pork plate and today's special which was chorizo tacos. Everything was really good, especially the pickles that came with a pulled pork plate.
The Pig has got delicious cheese fries, and the small size is enough for two. I often have a taco or two for lunch, they offer several varieties. Each of them are delicious. If they have banana pudding on the menu grab it because it sells out really quick
Had a to go order right before close. Y’all the cheese fries were amazing (they do not look like the photo online they are a million times better!) Staff was super friendly. I will be back!
Friends have told me about The Pig - so today I decided to go for it. I ordered takeout pulled pork and hush puppies. The pulled pork was great, while some of the hush puppies tasted like catfish... You don't use the same dipping batter or frying oil for both, do you?? I think someone did today....The four stars is for the pork!
The hush puppies are good! I had the beef brisket platter with yellow coleslaw, and potato salad. It’s self-serve and they interesting items on the menu. They have Louisiana, Texas and Vietnamese-inspired items.
As someone that has had NC BBQ from all over the state, I feel I am fairly qualified to make judgements. This is decent Q. It had a nice, mild smokey flavor. From the taste, I would guess it was hickory smoked, which is essential for NC Q. My problem with The Pig's Q is that it contained a fair amount of pieces of fat, skin and gristle. Maybe some folks like this in their Q, but I detest it. If you look at the picture with some material on the left side of the plate, that is the waste I pulled out. The collards were decent, but lacked seasoning, somewhat bland. I asked for vinegar but was told all they had was malt vinegar. I don't know of anyone that puts malt vinegar on collards. I loved the pickles. Overall, I will be returning. I'll just have to take some time to remove the unwanted "extras" mixed in with the pork.
I love BBQ, so really wanted to check this out. The sides , Mac and Cheese and fries, weren't great.. they were out of bannana pudding, the hush puppies were Burnt and yet I give them 4 stars. Why? The BBQ was delicious and the staff was friendly. The BBQ was a pleasant flavor, fine chopped and a little vinegary. I'd try them again, all places half off nights and good BBQ is worth a second shot.
A great hidden BBQ gem. If you are in the area this place is worth a stop. Amazing homemade sides and stellar BBQ will greet you. I had the pork cheek banh mi sandwich which included some of the best sweet hot pickles I have ever had in my life. V got the pulled pork BBQ that was perfection. Word of warning re: the portions they are just crazy big. Sharing one order with sides is probably the smart move.
The Pig has really good BBQ. I recently went there and had the fried catfish, which was also good. I noticed they changed how they make their hush puppies—BIG improvement. One of the things I like best is that The Pig has a really nice NC beer selection. It's easy to get in and out of The Pig and continue on your day.
I've driven by this place for over a year and just went in for the first time recently. The prices are about what you would expect in chapel Hill, the meats are great. I had the bologna and brisket both were amazing. Their hush puppies are a strange funnlecake shape but they taste great, like a crunchy outside and a soft savory inside. I didn't like their pickled appetizer as much as the meats, was a little sweet which could just be I wasn't expecting it. The store is much smaller inside than expected but NC weather is usually nice enough that if the place ever got busy you could sit outside comfortably. The staff was very friendly and the atmosphere was very relaxed. I'll probably go again if I'm looking for good BBQ.
Fried green tomatoes were delicious. I also like the vinegar based sauce. I would have given them 5 stars if they had ribs I mean come on. No BBQ restaurant should run out of ribs.
I have been here a couple of times now. I really like the main dishes. I had the Korean bbq today and it was spectacular. The pickles that came with it are a bit sweet for my taste but not horrible. The pickled watermelon rinds (had to try them) were delicious. There was definitely jalapeno in there but it was a highlight, not the main flavor. I had the hush puppies a couple of years ago and hated them. Based upon the bbq, I'd give it a 5. Based upon the sides, a 3. They have a small selection of craft drafts, which rotates. There's always something for your taste. They have wine selections as well but I cannot speak to them. The server was very personable and pleasant and the food was prompt and delivered with a smile.
Tried the pulled pork platter. Got additional brisket and a side of fried okra. Everything was good but not exceptional. The hush puppies and coleslaw were very unique and were my favorite parts of the meal. The pulled pork was tender and moist and went very well with the vinegar bbq sauce, however, the brisket was not good. Perhaps just a bad day. The fried okra was prepared well but had some sort of spice dusting added that I did not care for.
The food is adequate but no flavor. The best thing on my BBQ Plate was the homemade pickles. The worst hush puppies I have ever had as they were shaped like curly fries and were hard as bricks. Had to throw them away but ate the BBQ and pickles. I'll have to stick to City Barbeque and The Blue Note Grill.
Stopped in for a quick lunch, food was ready within a few minutes. I ordered a BBQ sandwich and sides but in confusion ended up with the BBQ platter. Plenty of food, BBQ was cooked just right, the hush puppies were tiny, shriveled tasteless strips which was disappointing as I happen to really like hush puppies, the side I went with was collards and they were in some sort of unpleasant hot sauce that I just didn't like, nor did the others in my party. Staff was friendly, atmosphere was open and suiting for what it was, a BBQ joint. At the end of the meal, the real question is would I return.. Maybe. Basically paid $14 for some BBQ and a Coke, had the hush puppies and collards been better I would have been ok with the price.
Meat was dry, too overcooked. The slaw needs improvement. The menu could use some tweaking with more barbecue related items, dinner combos, sandwich, etc
While the food was excellent and the ingredients were fresh, it was too expensive. I paid almost $50 (including tip) for a sandwich and BBQ plate at lunchtime only to find out that I had to get my own drink and bus my own table when finished. Cashier was unexcited to be there as he was on his phone most of the time. Atmosphere was that of a 1970's lunch counter with no frills at all and several dirty tables.
No idea why this place has such high reviews. Small strip mall order at the counter. Pork bbq was coarse cut, large pieces of gristle. Hush puppies were made through some sort of strainer that shaped them like really large noodles. Not my fave - considering it’s in NC I had much higher expectations. Best bbq I had here was in ashboro….
The BBQ itself was good as was the cider vinegar sauce, but I was underwhelmed by the rest. .. The fried green tomatoes were coated in breadcrumbs that tasted like Italian breadcrumbs. They were greasy and tough. I could barely cut them with a knife. The hushpuppies are not round so they soak up more grease to batter. they are like long like french fries. There were cold and tough. They taste like squiggles of grease. The slaw obviously has a lot of mustard or tumeric to make it that yellow.
Cleanliness 3/5. Flies were pretty rampant within the restaurant. Even for winter, which was odd. Tables were brushed off to the floor. So the tables were wiped clean (however "clean" you can consuder one rag on multiple tables to be), but now you were tramping around in peoples leftover crumbs on the floor. Sauce dispensers oily, or sticky and needed to be cleaned. Bottles of bleach, boxes of styrofoam plates, boxes of napkins all crowded around drink fountains which left a cluttered, messy look to the area. Fountain heads need to be cleaned pretty badly. + Price 2/5. Prices would be more reasonable if they included CHOICE. By that I mean you get their home made pickles and mustard based coleslaw for free. Whether you want them or not with your meal. But for ONE SCOOP of side of something YOU might want (baked beans, fries, mac n cheese etc) it'll cost an addistional $3.50. For half a rack of mediocre ribs (6 measley bones) and one side, my meal was over $20. No drink included...and the ribs WERE BURNT! + Quality 4/5. For the most part, the food is diverse from tasting the same as other items on the menu. The smoky taste added to the mac n cheese is give or take to some but personally I loved it. The rosemary on the fried green tomatoes threw me off. + Service 4/5. The mexican guys working in the back and preparimg the food need to use better language. Just because I'm not mexican, doesn't mean I don't speak Spanish (which I do).
I don't like barbecue but I went with a group of people. I ordered a BLT. I didn't even like the taste of the bacon. I ate it because I was hungry not because it was good. I absolutely love salty things! This bacon was too salty for me. The staff couldn't have been more pleasant! It was a pleasant environment in which to eat with friends. It seemed that all of my friends enjoyed their food. They all ate BBQ
I'll start by saying the employeeswere great. Very friendly and welcoming. The food-meh. I love some good BBQ but this wasn't it. My nachos were bland with a side of hair. The cheese on top looked like it had been poured from a can. Not fresh at all. I personally wouldn't return, but maybe give it a try.
There is far better BBQ to be found in the triangle. We got brisket, pulled pork, and ribs. Pretty much everything was cold & dried out, and this was at peak dinner time on Friday evening. The brisket was particularly bad. Portions were small. Pulled pork was alright. But the worst part of it was the shiitake mushroom sandwich which caused food poisoning. Wouldn’t eat here again.
Ordered the BBQ pulled pork platter as well as the catfish platter and a side of collard greens and macaroni and cheese..I had high expectations from the reviews.. I was disappointed to say the least …the young man whom took my order was very nice and helpful,he’s the reason for 1 of the stars ..So BBQ-Burnt hard pieces throughout, very dry Coleslaw-Unique color and texture very bitter Catfish-NO FLAVOR,fried in OLD OIL Hush puppies-I wouldn’t call them hushpuppies just fried weird pieces they throw on top Collards greens-decent add a little hot sauce, reason for other star Macaroni and cheese-very bland, mediocre at best… Price..HIGH,doesn’t match quality of food.
Mediocre and underwhelmed. Limp greasy fries on a plate of oil, catfish tasted like old grease and breading fell off my sandwich. Husband's BBQ plate was only ok. Place was empty on A Saturday at 6
Recently I had lunch at the Pig and got the veggie plate consisting of potato salad, fried green tomatoes and collard greens. The greens were good. The fried green tomatoes had so much thyme on them that I could barely eat them and the green tomato was tough, you had to saw it with your knife, plus it had a vinegary taste. It was awful. I mentioned to one of the workers what were the spices on the tomatoes and she told me thyme and a couple of others and I said they were so overpowering. She said I'm sorry you didn't like them. That was it. I didn't even mention the lumpy potato salad. The lumps were as big as silver dollars, you had to cut them up and they were hard and taste was bland. The staff is unenthused but they do what they need to do, although you bus your table and get your beverage. Pretty let down as my first visit there was pretty good, live and learn.
Very inconsistent quality of food I have noticed. The food is really good when it tastes fresh but it seems like thats only about half the time that I order. the mac and cheese especially is so good when fresh but tonight it tastes like we are reheating leftovers.
Went here for some BBQ with my friends not fully expecting what we were getting in to. I am someone who will clean my plate even if the food isn't necessarily enjoyable but I could not finish my plate there. Upon leaving me and my friends all had stomach aches over food that was relatively mid. Find BBQ somewhere else.
We brought guests here for dinner; there were 7 of us. None of the food was fresh--- except the hushpuppies. It was all clearly deteriorated from being too old and had an unpleasant taste, texture and/or odor in one way or another. All of the various smoked meats: Brisket and Pork were clearly deteriorated from being too many days old--the unpleasant spoiled taste, dried out texture, and unpleasant odor reflected this--simply awful-- In a normal household they would have been thrown out. The Mac and Cheese was so deteriorated, it was mushed together and consolidated in one unrecognizable big chunk. Even the texture and taste of the pickles were age deteriorated, not crisp or remotely fresh. Very disappointing and I would not recommend coming here unless you just want hushpuppies......
The Pig used to have great food....house cured meat and pickles. The food was clean tasting it was great to have a place that made most of their cured meat. We used to happily recommend it to others. Our last trip there was just sad...food was way too salty. So salty that we couldn't eat half of it....even the salad dressing was overly salted. We ordered the ribs (menu says the sauce comes on the side), but they came slathered with it. Ribs were tender, but sauce was too overpowering and full of molasses. The fried chicken was crispy, but overly seasoned too. Pickles were just ok...usually they're exceptional. Pickled beets were edible. Mac and cheese was no good either. The smoked cheese they used was overpowering, sauce was grainy and pasta was beyond overcooked. The only good thing about the meal were the collard greens. They were clean tasting with a nice spice to them. We ended up composting most of our $60 dinner. Sorry to say we won't be going back.
The brisket was so tough, grey and overcooked and they tried to mask it with the sauce. I was not impressed it was like trying to eat beef jerky. For the price of the brisket plate I would expect way better.
