The Portage

All the appetizers were really good, duck fat fries were phenomenal. One vegetarian entree, hummus and falafel plate, was also really good. Good beer selection but could use a few more local options. Great service. I would definitely visit this place again if they offered a few more veggie options.

Absolutely loved the food and the atmosphere. There were so many great sounding menu items that we ordered a variety of them and split them. We got the Top Sirloin, the Pan Seared Market Fish, and the Crispy Berkshire Pork Loin. All dishes were cooked to perfection. The Top Sirloin was cooked to a perfect medium rare and was incredibly tender. We were lucky enough to sit on the patio and were honored to have a gentleman by the name of Casey wait our table. Casey was very knowledgeable when it came to questions about the menu and was very entertaining. This restaurant is a MUST TRY!! Can't wait to get back to Chicago so I can have another bite to eat at this cozy restaurant again!

I've been here a few times and it's awesome. I've been to every good restaurant in Chicago, most in New York, a number in Paris, etc., and Portage holds it own. The place is hard for me to get since I live in the North Suburbs but everytime I go there I wonder why I don't go more often. The service is the best, the food is excellent American/French comfort food and the overall quality is superior. The owner stops by to see how things were. That's right the owner! Does anyone harken back to the days when they actually used to stop by the table? If you want pretentious this isn't for you. I don't usually write reviews but this place is worth the effort.

Very classy place and very classy food. Excellent service. We have only been 5 times and the servers still know are names. Even though it's very fancy, it's comfortable.

In good conscience I can't give this place more than 3 stars the food was good but the portions were extremely small with regards to the price they charge the drinks are expensive everything was overpriced so I can't really give this place my thumbs up but the food was good so I have to give it 3 stars
