Stopped by to try their AYCE Lunch special. For $29.99, you can order most of the items from their regular menu. Some are half the regular portion but it's AYCE so ask and get 2 orders if you want the same size. Everything was delicious, but we were mainly there for the nigiri. Every piece of fish was fresh and was a generous size (for typical nigiri). Our waitress (aah, I forgot to ask for her name) was attentive, and despite being the only one serving a full room, made sure to check on us often. The sushi chef, Ken, did an excellent job on every roll/nigiri we ordered. What really impressed me, though, was an interaction I observed of him and another guest who had a unique communication style. Ken was very kind and patient and didn't treat this guest differently. As a teacher, I teach my students how to communicate in general settings, but I know that not everyone will be patient or understanding of everyone's differences. I will definitely be back, not only for the food but the awesome service that they provide.
Decent little spot if you are craving sushi in Otay Ranch. Very fresh (very important) at least for me when it comes to told and sashimi. Can definitely do better on their beer selection; but their prices on beer make up for the lack of options.
Been here a couple of times for lunch and it’s not busy at all. The waitress is very friendly and the sushi tastes great. One of the better sushi restaurants in Otay Ranch. I’ll take anything with spicy tuna or salmon with lemon slices ion top. They do have some unique sushi roll names. I think one is called the Jessica Alba roll.
Love this place. They have great service, awesome sushi and the food presentation is amazing (even the mochi). In the photos are the ring of fire roll (jalapeño on top) and samurai roll. Both rolls were delicious, also had their hot green tea which was really good!
Sushi is amazing, and all you can eat for only $30 a person is stellar. 👌🏻
A bit pricier than places in Kearny Mesa but it was great quality and I saved gas $$ so whatever. Great taste.

Visited for the first time on 7.20.24. Simple decor. Clean. We tried the calamari, a cucumber roll, splcy crunchy tuna roll and a salmon skin roll. The calamari was some of the best anywhere. The sushi rolls were generous portions - some of the largest We've ever had. We could not finish them. An example is the cucumber roll with pieces twice as large as most other places. The prices were reasonable and a good value. The service was great. We will be back. The only criticism is that the Wasabi was not very spicy. They did offer some other sauces but we declined. Next time we will try some.
Moved my family here from Hawai'i about a year and a half ago. I grew up eating Hawaiian, Japanese, Chinese, and Filipino food because Hawaii's a great mix of these different cultures. My wife and I decided to give kaiyo sushi a try since we live nearby and was pleasantly surprised with the quality of their ingredients and service of this place. Their sushi stands out from the rest in this area because the sushi is fresh (which is very important), sized appropriately, and isn't overly flashy or salty. To top it off, their service is great and made us feel very welcomed. This is a good place to bring your family for lunch on a weekend or a chill, low-key dinner. Parking can be tough during peak hours because it's a small parking lot and is shared with other nearby restaurants. If you decide to come here during peak hours (dinner), try parking by Wells Fargo or find parking as you work your way towards Vons which will only be a short walk. Don't forget they do takeout too.
It’s a pretty solid sushi spot. The rolls are super yummy and the food is fresh.
We love Kaiyo sushi, it always hits the spot. We haven't eaten there, just take out. My family's favorite rolls are the Baked Salmon and the Jessica Alba. They also like the monkey balls. It's always fresh and consistent.
Great little sushi place in Otay with lots of flavors and a great AYCE option. Service was pretty quick for only having one server. We got our rolls pretty quick and was able to order the next round . Portions were a bit small but for AYCE I just doubled up. really great taste and lovely little storefront. Walking distance from the appartments and with Tea Next door not a bad date night.
This hole-in-the-wall was BY FAR the best sushi and service! The food was delicious - all you can eat sushi, cream cheese wontons, spicy edemame. The service was great, hardly waited for food and they were busy with to-go orders most of the time. Will be back for more!

Sushi isn't too bad. Service was pretty slow though. I think they are still figuring things out since they are still new. Prices are reasonable. It's nice having more sushi options in this area.
2024 update: increasing rating because wait times have improved again with more accurate eta’s for take out orders. Prices are what they are, inflation has hit everywhere. Still the best selection with the most rolls that appeal to my family’s tastes. 2023 update: lowered at this time because of increased prices coupled with longer wait times 2021 review, 5 stars: This has become our go to spot for sushi in East Chula Vista! The Hot Lips roll and baked mussels (no longer available) are our foundation, and then we add something else new each time (the samurai we tried on Sunday was super good!) I'm surprised they don't know us by now, but service is generally good. Ultimately the value is what brought us here and when looking for a place near home, there isn't really a close second.
It's one of those places that you check off what you want, which seems slower imo, but otherwise the Sushi was good for the decent pricing. It's a nice environment since there's big windows. (Try their Jalapeno poppers if you go, I've never had ones like theirs)

Long wait times. Place was dirty. Probably understaffed. The food was good tho.

It's good overall for this area. Only thing I think would take them into 4.5-5 star review was if they worked on flavoring the rice. It's too plain. I get it, steamed rice but you can flavor it to give it a better experience. The fries oysters were delicious though

Made me sick! I'm the only one that was vomiting the next day and I was the only one who ate the sushi the evening before. It was our first time eating from here and it took me awhile to look over the menu because of all of the choices. Most places will try to help if they see you're having trouble deciding or ask if it's your first time eating sushi and make a recommendation based on your palette. Truthfully, I am quite indecisive on my own and was hoping for a little push, but nothing. I sat right at the front by the register where the cashier was standing. I asked what was the most popular sushi, but eventually ordered the Jessica Alba. When I opened it up the tuna had hints of brown. I don't live far and went straight home so it didn't sit long at all. I threw away the last two pieces to eliminate some risk, but still ended up puking. I knew better and shouldn't have eaten it, but I was so hungry. The lemon pieces on top looked pre-stored and not fresh. The seaweed salad was big, but basic for $7.50. I cut some fresh lemon and orange slices to give it something cause it was giving grocery store. The takoyaki had some hard-chewy octo pieces that I pulled out of my mouth to discard and the inside elements weren't the best in my personal experience. I'm used to the melt in your mouth takoyaki with drizzles and garnish on top to happy it up, but this wasn't that. It came with a dipping sauce that didn't help with anything flavor wise. I won't say I'll never go back because I wanted to try the soups. If I do try some and they aren't hitting either then yeah it's a wrap.
Presentation- ugly, no effort Food itself - gross, poor quality Ordered maki plate. Tuna was discolored brown ish . Rolls were very haphazard and some drenched in a sweet sauce like maple syrup , to the point of being disgustingly sweet and inedible . There seems to be some type of ‘tempura’ in one, it has a fried coating yet is raw inside . Red flag 1: no business on a weekend, I was one of the only customers there Red flag 2: workers are bored and chatting behind counter and scrolling on their phones I feel a little sick , and threw away half my food. Tried to give this place a chance since it was a local small business, but it’s clear they’re not trying very hard to win their customers. Avoid this, and other sushi restaurants in the otay ranch area because they all suck.
Great food. Have ordered several times before w no issues until today Horrible / unprofessional service. (See pictures of texts from manager Kevin attached.) Ordered a Philadelphia roll and Hawaiian roll. Received a Philadelphia and what seems like a basic crab roll. I waited a long time in person. I gave my order twice Since they forgot about ringing me up the first time. I got home saw the wrong roll. I called and was on hold on and off with the girl from the front. She was talking to Kevin the manager. I even texted them the photo and told them I received the wrong roll. They offered a credit and I said I wanted a refund. I don’t want to go back after someone gave me the wrong order / lack of services. Kevin refused to refund and then continued to message me by text unprofessionally. I’ve never heard of managers texting customers to tell them they’re trying to get free food. His words exact are “you ain’t getting no refund”. “You ain’t gonna get it” - and so forth. I’ve now disputed for lack of services - just know if you don’t get the correct order and don’t want to go back, they won’t refund just credit you. And probably harass you by text. I feel sorry for the owner. The food is great but Kevin is def a lost cause for their place.

Horrible service!!! Save your money there are better places. I was the only left inside the resturaunt waiting for my order to go. They told me it was just another 5-10 mins. Well they finished and wrapped my order placed it on the counter but never called my name. Meanwhile they had multiple customers go in and out for to go orders. 30 mins later the lady at the counter walked over to me (the only person in the resturaunt), asked my name and said oh your order is here and its ready. I took it and left. As I drove back I got more upset and decided to call to talk to a manager. The young lady said there was none and there was nothing she could do. She then asked if I was the Uber eats guy and that I was missing a salmon roll and could come back to get it. I said that was not me and I explained that I was upset that I had to get cold food. She said it was because an order got mixed up and that was why I got cold food. She said I can drive back and return the food for a refund. I said it was not my fault that an order got mixed up and now I have to waste my time and gas money to drive back. She said that they can have someone drive over to my place to pick up the food. I was upset and did not like that offer. I said, in a polite yet firm manner, that you are nice person and I understand what you are saying but I dont appreciate that offer and that is why I want to talk to a manager. She got upset and started raising her voice at me saying she was nice and doesnt deserve to be talked to that way. I repeated that I said you were nice but wanted to talk to a manager. She just went off and said that these were the only things she was told to offer. She the said that the manager would be in tomorrow but also started talking over me and interupting me saying uh huh watever and hung up on me. I just wanted to talk to a manager that could handle the situation in a more responsible and respectful manner. Teens these days are too sensitive. I was never rude or mean and never raised my voice. She just couldnt handle the fact that I didnt like her offers and decided to raise her voice and hang up on me. If a manager can reach out to me and help resolve what happened. Sigh : ( What a night!
