I had some time to burn the other day while running an errand. I went strolling around the downtown area and as I was heading back via side streets I smelt amazing burgers and grilled food. A couple minutes later I saw a small place with an open sign in the side window, picnic tables, and a steady stream of people going in and out. As I got closer I heard the music, the great smell increased and I decided I had to stop and grab lunch. Such a cool little cozy resturant, a handful of tables, very welcoming staff, and great food! I chose the Philly Cheese Steak sandwich and ate outside. Quick service, great pricing, and I cant wait to go back for a burger.
Fantastic local hamburger joint! The burgers were top-notch, the fries were near perfect, but I won't get the onion rings, again. Next time - the Frito Pie! If you're near here and looking for a burger, try this place!
Old time hamburger joint feel. Great burgers and fries. Ladies super nice. Love the basic menu, keeps it simple.
Best hamburgers homemade hamburgers. I’ve had in a long time. The atmosphere was the wonderful. Highly recommend this outfit.
I really enjoyed picking up a truly excellent burger at this restaurant. The staff, food and other customers made my stop a great experience. The only problem was that I should have ordered a 2nd burger!
1:01 p.m. It was 97 degrees outside when we parked on a nearby bridge and started walking toward Morris Neal’s. The hot air carried the smell of the creek below, thick and earthy, with a faint tint of sewage that clung to the back of your throat. The dumpster nearby rattled as the wind pushed burger wrappers out into the open, sending them tumbling across the concrete in the slow shuffle of the Texas summer. On the side of the building, a small AC window unit hummed and dripped into the sidewalk, the runoff tracing little dark spots into the concrete. It sat right next to a walk-up order window, the kind of setup that makes you imagine summer afternoons with people leaning in for their burgers and fries. My friends had chosen this place the day before and had been talking it up like they were about to let me in on a local secret. I walked in and was amazed at how small the place was. I felt I was transported back in time. The menu was short, simple, confident. No distractions, no gimmicks. Just burgers, fries, and the unshakable belief that this is all you need. It was empty when we first entered. But quickly, the small room flooded with hungry regulars. People shifting in their seats. Orders flying. The receipt machine was acting like it wanted the afternoon off, spitting and stalling, and you could tell the staff was getting frustrated but still moving with the rhythm of people who have done this long enough to know it always gets fixed somehow. Built near a creek, the building leaned just enough for your balance to notice when you stood along the west wall, like you were on the Titanic’s deck mid-tip, waiting for the lifeboats. As we waited, I noticed the man at the next table. Slowly, sweat stains began to bloom under his armpits. I couldn’t tell if it was from the heat or from the anxious anticipation of his burger. Maybe both. The names on the orders turned into a show of their own. My friend Stevan became “Steven” like always. Blaine became “Plaine” even after spelling it out to the cashier. I didn’t bother explaining mine. I just said “Pedro.” It’s not my name, but it’s easier than watching someone try to wrestle with it letter by letter. I started getting anxious as the minutes ticked by. 1:10. 1:20. 1:30. Finally, at 1:35, my burger arrived. I took my first bite and instantly understood why my friends had brought me here. Juicy, perfectly seasoned, with a bun that had just the right toast. The kind of burger you don’t just eat — you remember. On my way out, the heat slapped me in the face and brought me back to reality. The AC unit kept dripping into the sidewalk like nothing had changed. Somewhere in town there was probably another burger place with a longer menu, straighter floors, and a receipt machine that worked every time. But none of them could do this. Praise the Burger.
Never been disappointed with the food from MN. It can take a while to get to you since it's all made to order, but it's well worth the wait. Adding the awning to the outdoor seating was a great touch up to the environment of the whole place and makes dining in much more accessible given the small size of the establishment. I don't get the opportunity to eat here often, so anytime I do I make a point to stop by. Well worth a visit for lunch or early dinner if you're not pressed for time.
Lunch in Cleburne Tx. Got the double cheeseburger without the bun and sweet potato fries. You order at a counter like a fast food joint. The inside seating is pretty limited so we sat outside. It was pretty hot outside but we had no other option. Staff were friendly and cheerful. Took a bit for our food to come out but it was 11:40 am and it was full inside. Burger was very good as was the sweet potato fries. Plastic baskets reminiscent of DQ, plastic utensils and drinks in cans. Were it not for the heat I would have easily eaten the whole thing but it was too hot and humid to have much of an appetite. Portion size was good and I enjoyed my lunch
Good hamburgers. Small dining area. Maybe 8 tables. Cozy sitting area. There is also room outside with a view of the courthouse clock tower and that’s where we sat. I had the slim Jim burger with fries and iced tea. The wife had the Junior Jim burger with onion rings and iced tea. These burgers are not too larger so bigger appetites might want to order the double. This is a local hangout and is usually crowded during lunch. Our bill before tip was $23.98 for the two combo’s.
Just had one of the best burgers ever. Morris Neal Handy Hamburgers in Cleburne Texas. Thx John Bass for letting me in on this tastey place to eat. I got the Double Jumbo Cheeseburger and added Bacon to it. Cooked to perfection. Then had a slice of one of the most moist carrot cakes I have ever eatin. I WILL DEFINITELY be back. Thx @morrisnealhandyhamburgers #morrisnealhandyhamburgers yall made my tummy happy.
Really great burgers. Opened in 1933. They weren't cheap and neither was their food. Value for the money was fair. Great food. Great service. The ladies that work there and prepare the food are a hoot and a lot of fun to talk to. They have a great group of employees that show they really care about what they do and how they do it.
If you like old-fashioned home cooked hamburgers this is The place to go. The hamburgers are big and reasonable prices. They are made to order at your liking. So you know it is hot and fresh.the location is kind of hidden in downtown so it might be a little hard to find at first. Prices for hamburgers range from $4-$10. Even the junior burgers are reasonable size. The only down fall is, its little inside and sitting space is limited. They do have a picnic table outside as well.
Relaxing spot to get away from work for lunch. 1950s music coupled with the southern sweetness of the hostesses makes the atmosphere nostalgic and refreshing. If you visit frequently they will remember your name and order. Although not gourmet, it’s certainly a respectable establishment. ProTips: 1. Order in advance if you visit at 12:30 this place gets popping. 2. Choose how you want your meat cooked because sometimes the grill folks can get too excited. 3. If you like ketchup or ranch with your hamburger and fries consider bringing your favorite packs with you to use. Fair price for the quantity and they offer online coupons. In my opinion this place is a solid choice for convenience, experience, hospitality, and tradition but not necessarily for quality. Worth visiting, I do go monthly to support this well intentioned historical small buisness.
Burger was good. Fries when we finally got them were horrible. Staff was not great. The girl that took the order was efficient but the people in the kitchen were not firing on all cylinders. It used to be a fun and quick place to grab lunch. Now is very slow.
They were out of things I ordered. The food was very greasy, fries were soggy after just coming out . I would rather have crispy fries. Burger was mediocre. The place is nice. The service was nice. But i didn't find it to be worth the nearly 30$ for 2 people. The taste was there. It made me little sad because it has great reviews. Maybe just off day.
I would go higher but I ordered the regular jim burger and the patty was very small...did not come close to filling out the bun. Looked like the wrong patty on both burgers we ordered. Have never had that happen here before. Came here again on 9-13-25. Saw all the other burgers going out to other tables look incredible. Got mine and it was flat. And missing meat again....no idea.
I guess if you like brown bagging in your car or sitting next to boomers outside in the Cleburne square than this is the place for ya But… for the dry patties to skimpy portions, def not worth price point Grumps Burgers in town got more to offer tbh Btw get the reg size onion rings Larg order only came with five rings sheesh
I've tried a few times and always a different item. The staff is great, friendly and the place is very clean and inviting. The problem...the time to get our order was about 20 mins. Had a 2 hot dogs amd two fries, the dog was good, fries were just warm. Then a few days later we tried Philly sandwich, they took almost 25 mins to get. They were on Texas toast and we live 2 miles, got home and the sandwiches were a wet mess. Bread was soaking in butter and the meat filling. I had about 2 bites, fries again were juat warm. We had to ask about time amd they said it just takes a while. I just don't understand why it takes soooo long. I would get the Philly but tell them to put the bread on the side. It's a city favorite but 20 mins for a, order at the counter for 2 hot dogs and fries. Very disappointing.
Im not a complainer and we love Morris Neals always have, but the last 2 times have not been good. I decided that last visit might have been because the they were really busy and that's ok no complaints. This time our Jumbo Burgers were awful, the meat on mine was so small that when I cut it in half it was literally 2 bites. The meat fell apart was dry and just not what is expected from y'all. My husband was burnt and dry so he didn't eat his at all. We will be back but hope next time its like it was in the Past. The Best Burger in Town right now can only give 2 stars. Sorry Guys
