Mariscos El Capitan is a popular seafood spot known for fresh, delicious food and a lively atmosphere with live music. Many recommend the "cucarachas". Some find the music too loud, especially after 6pm. Service is generally excellent.

My sister suggested this spot to me, she said it has some great mariscos. She was right the good was excellent. She took her friend with us. The fish ceviche, the negra modelos chavela, and fish tacos I had were the best! I tried the aguachilles Verde my sister has and it was excellent. Can't wait to come back here!
Excellent the food was amazing if you like Mexican style seafood they have the right flavors I give a 10! They also have sushi yummy and fresh squeezed lemonade!
I finally found a great restaurant, great prices, food and quick service. Highly recommend this place.
Great food and great family friendly atmosphere
This is the best mariscos restaurant in the valley they have the best camarones also their service is amazing top quality and the music is lit definitely recommend you to stop by and try out some camarones also its a good place to go to spend time with your family and hear music and have a very good meal so yeah i give it a 10/10 very good food
SO authentic SO good. Feels special and food was SO good special fresh authentic. Awesome experience. A must if you are in Coachella Valley.
So fun. I'm a white boy & had a great time w my predominantly Hispanic motorcycle crew. Live music, fresh food, good drinks & very reasonable prices. Will come back. 4sure.
Good food and environment. If you like live music, go during the weekends in the evening, creates a fun evening!
I love this place! It was a bit overwhelming by the music but it has great food! I would recomend before you go to do a reservation if more than 3 people are attending they also have a bar right next to the seating area if you like alcohol. I personally love their "El quesito roll" which is like a sushi roll but Sinaloa style... I also enjoy their "caldo siete mares" but if you dont like sea food I recommend a loaded quesadilla with steak, quesibirria, tacos or birria
First of all, great service! Food was delicious and had good portions. Very good covid 19 measures with outdoor dining and all staff wearing masks. P.S. Don't sit too close to the speakers they get loud.
Wowza! Very comfortable environment delicious food, huge portions! The service was fun for us because she spoke to us in Spanish! But it all worked out fine had a fun lunch date with my husband!
Great Food, Great Service!!! The only down fall is that on evening hours there's somtimes live music that it's so load you won't be able to communicate adequately. If you can get passed that then you're Golden enjoy!
I loved everything I had here! The drinks were so delicious and the food packed a punch! The Taco gobernador was crunchy and cheesy and yum! The stuffed jalapeños were my favorites! I will be going back tomorrow!
Great experience. Arrived at noon, not too busy. Quick and courteous service. Enjoyed the Agua Chile (Green). Will visit again to try other items on the menu.
Great food really really great beans. Large portions easily split between 2 people. Definitely worth a trip in.
Great service friendly people good food i will go back
Love the food , the cucarachas are my favorite , service has always been great ! Just go early because once the Banda arrives it can be an overwhelmingly loud .
This is a great place to visit if you are interested in both, amazing delicious Sushi and Seafood dishes! I rated a 3 on ambiance because the band was way too loud and no chance to have a group conversation. However, I highly recommended if you are celebrating a birthday party 🎉 🥳
Loved their food. Definitely coming back!
We had an amazing time here!! The food was amazingly good and very well presented! The staff was amazing and very friendly! The dining area is very clean and tidy. Our waitress Annel was very kind and gave us a 10/10 experience and made the evening a night we will remember !
The bench setting for everyone is not very good, but the food made up for the bad ambiance. Had the grilled octopus its a must try dish, whole fish was great, we were a party of 6.we ordered drinks and at the end had 3 rounds of quality tequila. Price for the meal was over $600.00
Always a pleasant time when we eat here. Seafood is always fresh. Only thing I didn't like so far is the shrimp cocktail. The juice tastes different, but other than that, everything else is all good. They even have a banda playing Wednesday through Sunday evenings.
I am from WA state and i come to eat here every time we’re in Palm Springs. I’ve been here 5 different times and the food has always been amazing! The staff is really friendly and the live music is great! I look forward to coming here every time!
Lunch was very good, even Linda really liked it and she's not an over-the-top seafood fanatic like myself. We will most definitely frequent Mariscos again. Thanks for a superb meal!
First time here for me and I will say that I am stuffed! I had the bacon wrapped chilies, breaded fish tacos, and a Cadillac margarita. All was very delicious and our server was amazing! Only con was that if you came for conversation, you may have to elevate your voice so others can hear you. Highly recommend this place for some great food and variety.
We have been there several times. Each time was a wonderful service and great food. Their menu is large.
Grat service! We were there for a birthday so it was a big party and they sat us down right away, gave us chips and salsa, took our orders quickly even with the live band playing, and checked on us constantly. We also had a cake and they helped keep it refrigerated and even got the band to sing happy birthday when they brought it out! Great experience and great food!:)
I HIGHLY RECOMMEND EL CAPITAN! Came here for father's day and had a great time with my family. Hands down the best Seafood restaurant in the surrounding cities. You cannot taste pictures but can get a really good idea of what your going to get. Staff was very nice, waitress was on top of her game for a party of 15, and you can't beat the live music and atmosphere! Hope this review helps you make your choice... ENJOY!!!
As soon as we arrived the service was impeccable. The seafood is fresh with so many delicious options. David was the best bartender, he was super attentive and gave us great recommendations. The music and vibe made for great atmosphere. I will definitely come back here again every time I visit the area!
I recently visited El Capitan and had an amazing dining experience from start to finish. We ordered the Parrillada Número Uno and the Chiles Calibre 50, and everything was absolutely delicious. The Parrillada Número Uno was the standout dish — it was loaded with a generous variety of seafood, including grilled fish fillets, Culichi shrimp, chipotle shrimp, devilish shrimp, and octopus in garlic sauce. Every item was flavorful, well-prepared, and cooked perfectly. We also tried the Chiles Calibre 50, which consisted of six yellow chilies stuffed with shrimp and topped with melted cheese. They were rich, savory, and incredibly satisfying — a must-order if you enjoy bold flavors. Portion sizes were very generous, both with the food and the drinks, making it great for sharing. The restaurant itself was nice-sized, very clean, and had a welcoming atmosphere. Our server was friendly, helpful, and attentive, which made the experience even better. Overall, El Capitan is a fantastic spot for quality seafood, great service, and a comfortable dining environment. I’ll definitely be coming back and highly recommend it to anyone looking for a great meal.
Great food services, good prices. Awesome atmosphere with live music on the weekends.
If you haven't tried the "cucarachas" at Marisco's El Capitan, head there now but don't go during the lunch hour because it's always crowded! Super fresh seafood with an extensive menu. Food and service were superb and I gave it a 3 for atmosphere because the sports bar scene is not my favorite. Every table in the restaurant had a plate of cucarachas which are head-on butterflied shrimp with an amazingly delicious spice blend. One order easily feeds 2-3 people.
Fantastic spot recommended by multiple friends. Got there on 12:30 on a Sunday in July, so we waited 30-40 minutes for a table for 2. The hostess thanked us for waiting and we got a booth. Margarita was great, cantarito could have used more citrus. The oyster shooters were delicious. The shot glass is frozen so loosen the oyster with your fork. Shrimp cocktail was banging. The house marisco sauce was perfect and our friendly server, David, recommended putting crema on the tostadas provided. Great selection of sauces on every table. La Jefa had the Tacos Ensenada made with grilled cheese tortillas, one fish and one shrimp. She loved both, but the fish was #1. I had the Capi-Piña- fish, shrimp and octopus in a mild, pineapple cream sauce. No room for dessert!
This place is definitely a vibe, the staff will get a rush of customers and still smile and do their best. They have live music towards the evening, which gives this spot an extra popularity at dinner hours. If you don't like loud music while you're eating, I wouldn't recommend coming here on the weekends at evening time. The food is delightful, the ambiance is great!
Great restaurant, great food, great service one of my favorite Marisco restaurants around. I recommend the Nido Marino, oyster shots, Marlin and Gobernado Tacos. Plus anything else you order from here will be good and fresh. They have great bands play Friday and Saturday evenings. But I wouldn't go on those days unless you want you ears blown out. Your ears will be ringing for a good half hour after leaving. Great if that's your kind of thing.. I prefer to keep my hearing intact.
Great tasting seafood!!!! There was a live band which was amazing! They can be a little loud for the small restaurant which can make conversation a little difficult. They have great specials!!
The food is great but I personally thought that the weekend music was overpowering to the point where I couldn't hear the person next to me. If you enjoy that type of stuff though, this is your place.
Service was great. Food came out fast. Its very loud when the music is playing. If you dont mind it's a good place.
Banda is really good and food is well done. They shoved as many tables and chairs in as possible, but the servers HUSTLE so it makes up for it.
I like the food here but the waitress was rude telling me the cost of my lobster after ordering I was offended because I know it was a racial slur. Also the fish was super salty they didnt even offer to change it I gave it. I want to always eat from there as well as recommended but I refuse
I'm torn because I want to give this place 5 stars, the food is fantastic. The service needs to step it up a notch though... It just takes to long to get food to the table. Best bet is to preorder your lunch if you want to be in and out fast.
Food was great , fast service and atmospher was great , just waitress wasn't so friendly , kinda had an actitude in way but I will come back again
Impressive from the moment you walk in. Relaxed, elegant, and well-run
The price reflects the great quality of the food. This is my second time and it's getting better every time so far. I'm taking off one star because I made the mistake of coming on Thursday night. Oh boy live music so loud I couldn't talk or hear the waitress. The volume was unnecessarily high for such a small place
My buddy said this place is better than Tkb that's my favorite sandwich place in Indio, CA , I said no way is better, I had to go see for myself and it's no where near tkb, I love mariscos especially on record hitting temperatures, but my shrimp cocktail was basic nothing special, shrimp wasn't that great, my boss had bacon wrapped shrimp, they double wrapped it, to make the shrimp look bigger, he said it was too salty, other buddy said his aguachiles were on point. The never ending chips and salsa were both fresh tostada with a good crunch, sauce was just out the fridge tasting good and spicy, I would go again and just order agua chiles, jamaica and horchata were good too.
Food was good..at least my cocktail de camaron.uper loaded...Hubby wasn't impressed with the mango sushi...and the carne asada taco was greasy for my hubby's taste...the service was slow...both waitresses didnt bothered to ask if we needed refills on our drinks..
The second time at this place , first time was not so good , I had an octopus taco and I would go back for that , the cucarachas were pretty good , I'm only giving three stars this time , the place was really dirty outside which is not acceptable, prices are high but I guess is the norm now ., someone told me is a hit and miss place , I will try the octopus taco one more time (that was reasonable for what you get)
Recommendation. If Google says you are open until 9pm and I arrive at 8:10pm but it takes you 10 minutes to notify me that kitchen is closed and cannot serve me then you should have someone making sure to let people know quickly to all customers entering after 8pm. Or , simply put up a sign and change your hours of operation so you don't get visitors after 8pm. I drove 20 minutes to get to your place , if I lived around the corner I wouldn't mind. ..... just a kind suggestion.
I liked the food I mean the food was great, but it took absolutely FOREVER to actually get the food me and my family ordered. It already took a long time to get the drinks but it took longer to get the food. It really seemed like they were trying to fill us up on just a bunch of chips and sauce.
The food is good if you eat there, but do not order to go because they just give you the half of it and charge you the same. (THAT'S SUCH OF DESAPOINMENT BECAUSE WHEN IS BUSY YOU DO NOT WANT TO WAIT THERE) ATMOSPHERE IS GOOD THE PROBLEM IS WHEN THE BAND ARRIVES THEY GET EXITED THAT THEIR MUSIC IS SO LOUD THAT IS UNCOMFORTABLE.
Today I came to have a great dinner with my family but I had a not so good experience. Everything was good in the beginning but when we got our waitress that was not attentive with us and was a bit a slower than usual with our food and drinks because my brother order a second michelada and it took more than 10 minutes for our waitress FRAN to bring it to us and I notice that other people got their drinks before us even thought we order first and it showed that he was not attentive as much with us than other tables. Me and my family love this restaurant, we have come here multiple times and the waitress have been very nice and attentive with us and our table did not have issues like today before, it was our first to deal with this kind of service from our waitress. Thank you for your time.
They have a good variety of fresh and cooked seafood, good flavors and a full bar, the only thing I dont like is that the music is way too loud, impossible to have a conversation unless you're screaming, if you want to avoid this go early before 3pm, also the tables are too small, the majority of the plates are big and its very uncomfortable to eat at a tiny table. Other than that most of the food is great!
Service was so bad on a busy Sunday evening... we ordered our dinner about 9:20 pm my family got their food about 10 pm... everyone got their food... oh your shrimps are still cooking ... it won't be much longer 15 min past ... advised the manager were is my food.. im starving and upset... nothing was done... still waiting! finally at 10:30 my food arrived by then everyone had finished their dinner ... by they time I wanted to leave... I asked for my bill it took her 15 min... while server prefer to concentrate on other tables... finally I walked up to the counter to get my bill I get over charger with food I did not order.... waited another 15 min... to get my bill ... and still charged a gratuity 😠 I told the manager I'm not paying for that .. working in the same industry you obviously observe everything... but never again will have dinner on a busy night... the service is no good... SERVER HILDA MANAGER CYNTHIA MANAGER DOES NOT KNOW WHO TO HANDLE COMPLAINTS.... PERDER TO ATTEND TABLES WHILE THE SERVERS RUIN PEOPLE NIGHT....
For some reason bad service today, I entered the restaurant I was not greated I sat waited to be seated and was never acknowledged so we exited. I think they know they got it good so let's ignore a few customers
We Sat down then we were approached by a cartoonist that asked to draw our two kids. I figured he worked off donations since price wasn't initially discussed. After drawing one picture (5min) he proceeded to charge us $30. I instantly felt scammed. The server tried really hard but he was obviously new to serving and i believe that there was a language barrier. My husband asked for iced tea and he was given raspberry iced tea, so he asked for a regular iced tea. He then brought a regular iced tea with sugar he put inside. The idea was to have a drink without sugar. We dismissed this as a mistake a new server might make. I received a raw uncooked shrimp on my meal. I complained to the supervisor who was named vanessa. She was very nice and very pleasant. Although she promised to discounted the meal and did not. We had been there for over two hours already so we didn't feel like waiting any longer since it was already past our kids bed time. Today my stomach is killing me from the food. It is unfortunate that we can never go back considering the restaurant had alot of potential to be good. I asked for the owner to call me today. I look forward to the call. Update...owner called and was not apologetic about our experience. She offered nothing to come back, which is really owner/management etiquette 101. I can see how the experience was what it was because everything trickles down from the top. I will never even give it a second look as I drive by or ever recommend this restaurant. Good riddance.
This place is loud, overpriced, and the food was nothing to write home about. I told the waitress that I didn't like the sushi roll that I ordered and her response was "what don't you like about it?" It was nasty, that's what I didn't like about it. Still had to pay for something I didn't eat. We won't be back.
I tried to buy sushi for takeout and some girl that has been working there for only two months said they don’t do take out only for certain sushi which is pretty dumb I’ve been a loyal customer to them always ordered the same thing for take out still waited on the phone for a long period of time then told me to wait while she answered another call other then that I hope they go back to doing all sushi take out since i always get the culichi roll or carne asada roll since I’m allergic to shrimp hope better customer service next time and all sushi’s back for takeout since you can’t even place an order online
Be prepared to not get your food for a long time. This is my third time hear the food is good but the time it take to get it is just too long 45 minutes to an hour and a half is too long. I understand if the returant is full but the place was half empty cooks are just messing around and don't care about it. Onece thay actually started on my meal it was done in five minutes. Very disappointing
I ordered and paid for 1 clam and it was open and charged for 2. My food had 90% Veggie and 10% shrimp. When asked for lemon water, I got an attitude. I will never return and don't recommend this place
Worst shrimp taco I ever hade it was cold and tasteless shrimp ceviche was so bad I didn't eat it!!! Take so long to bring appetizer and food !! It wasn't even bizy !! Bad service worst food !! And so expensive!! Never going to eat there again and I will pass tmycomwnts to all ppl!!!they making ppl and it's not Mexican sea food!! Tapatio is waaaay better
They always mess up my fish and they don't even clean it and I had to wait one hour to get cause they forgot to turn on the oven, and my daughter's burrito tasted like I bought it from McDonald's. Never going back.
Food isn't good for the price the waiting time is exaggerated crazy sushi horrible it warm kinda feel like it's pre-made and the heated up in a microwave so it can be more soft but u can tell the rice wast fresh but please who ever is reading this always make sure to check your bill they will over change you very disappointed with this place regarding the server seemed nice not bad but for the amount they change I expect my food to be good and fresh.
They did it again. Over charge !!!! Please double check your bill... They have done it twice to us. First time I let it slide but again!!!! My bill was 187& gave our waiter 80 cash and the rest on my card.... She charged me 132$ on my card....like really!!!! Food is amazing but will never come back!!! Our service was slow.
Waiting time is ridiculous. We went during our lunch hour, and waiting pretty much the entire time. There were 5 waiters kept checking in every 10min each of them, no refills given. By the time the food was out we had to take it to go. We were not even allowed to take the drinks unless they charged us. You can tell the food was ready long before we left, the tacos were cold, and the cheese on one of the sushi's was so cold it look like a thick blanket of yellow gunk...Not enough condiments, no forks or napkins. Mind you there were only 3 tables before us and all looked like they have been waiting there for a long time as well.
I am very disappointed at this place. Such great food, but poor service. Second time my take out order was incomplete. Spent nearly $100 and they didnt give me 2 items on my order. Go back to the restaurant to pick up the items. Lady behind the counter hands me the bag, says nothing and turns away towards the kitchen. We as customers try to support our local businesses, but horrible service pushes us away. Again, the food here is amazing. Sevice needs to be addressed. Zero stars!!
Prices on the menu are not updated. I was being charged over $50. When I told the manager about it she said the prices went up, yet it didn't show in the menu, nor was I told of new prices when ordering my food. I told the manager I was going to pay what it showed in the menu specialy since the plate I ordered was $34.99 on the menu and she said the new price was $64.99(parrillada capitan)But she was very rude and told me that I had to pay the new prices. Also I was being charged a $23.24 gratuity . My family and I were regulars at this restaurant. Yesterday was the last time we ate there. Never going back!
Had a very bad experience. Service was ok could of been way better. We ordered a fried fish after 1 hour waitress comes to Our table to say it was going to take a while if we wanted to cancel it... we canceled left the restaurant disappointed and hungry..
Waiting for 15 minutes there were 10 tables with customers and not even water was offered to me. It was recommended by a friend, but never got serviced at the end decided to go to a better serviced reataurant. Coco's culiacan wich served sea food and other plates as well!
Open times is a lie. My boyfriend and his coworkers are still in there for god knows how much longer and it’s always the same every Wednesday and Thursday. While I’m waiting for him to come back he’s at this place just listening to theirs music. They really need to update their open hours.
I placed an order over the phone and was told it'll be 30-40 minutes before it's ready. I completely understand that Friday's are very busy and I am a patient person. After about 30 minutes I arrive to pick up my order. I wait in line for about 7-10 minutes being ignored while they help everyone around me. That's fine. They were there before me. One of the girls notices I'm still standing in front of the counter waiting and starts to service me. I tell her I'm there to pick up an order. I wait about another 10 minutes as they look for my order. Turns out the paper with my order was never given to the cooks. My order was never made. They tell me they didn't make it and apologize and ask if I would still like my order. But the wait would be 30-40 mimutes..... I agree with everyone here. The food is amazing. THE SERVICE IS HORRIBLE!!
Had a fried mojarra, it was great. Ordered a side of beans and that killed it. Caned beans 🤮 Couldn't take the nasty taste out my mouth!! Server was pretty entertained talking to others and not attending us. We needed refills, then he forgot to put in my fish taco order 🤦♂️ I could go on, but to keep this short I would really suggest better customer service. "It was not busy by the way" Bad experience for my first and last time.
Horrible service called to do an order and said there too busy cant take orders!! Wth?
Jamaica was bad , waitress was bad, she never stop to ask if we were good, never offer water or anything, the worse service ever . Mango margarita didn’t even have alcohol, every plate is around $40 I ordered tostada was super spicy 🌶️ she didn’t even bring water . Or stop by we have to call her .
