I’m originally from Miami and finding this spot in my new city is amazing. A true, authentic Cuban gem! Great service and food. Home away from home.
One of my favorites latin restaurants and definitely my favorite Cuban restaurant in the Carolinas. As soon as you step into this place is like you are a bit back in time in Cuba with their colorful and unique decoration. The service is excellent and they have a variety of cocktails and drinks that are simply delicious. The food is not only well decorated making it visually elegant, but it taste out of this world. They brought they taste of the Caribbean to the Concord area and that is something we should all appreciate and support.
The place is very lively on Saturdays, the staff are very friendly and pleasant. The food was good, I got the Cuban sandwich with French fries. Overall I had a good experience.
The best Cuban restaurant in the Charlotte area. Family-oriented. Amazing live music. Excellent customer service. Food is delicious. Great Atmosphere. It truly feels like you are eating with family.
Terrific restaurant in the heart of downtown Concord. Friendly people with good food & drinks plus live music. Our server Bryan made excellent recommendations, including the Ropa Vieja which was outstanding, as were the Camarones al Ajillo. We don't get to Concord often but will be sure to return to Havana Carolina when we do!
A wonderful place for authentic Cuban food in Downtown Concord! Every time we eat at Havana, we enjoy bubbly servers like Tiffany and amazing dishes for every mood. The authentic drinks are always spot on! Good for lunch or dinner! Maybe, just maybe, you’ll catch some live Havana tunes! ❤️❤️🎶🎶
we were in from WNC for a night…this place is amazing…I even ordered togo items mid meal…i was genuinely sad finishing the meal “don’t be sad that it’s over, be grateful it happened”…thanks Havana!!
Havana Carolina is one of the best restaurants in the country. The authentic Cuban vibe, lively music, and flawless service made the night unforgettable. The Taste of Cuba sampler was phenomenal—a true flavor experience that felt like family cooking. Phenomenal drinks, Cuban coffee, and a live singer made this top-tier culinary destination an absolute must-visit.
If you want authentic and traditional Cuban foods or feel like you visited Miami, then this is a great spot to go. Live music on Friday’s (and I believe Saturday’s). The food was traditional Cuban fare and delicious as can be. We live an hour away, and it is worth the drive. I highly recommend you try it. But, if this is your first time visiting, there is no street facing signage, the restaurant is at the far end of a little mini mall that is almost invisible because there is absolutely no signage, just an address.
The food (especially the rice) was absolutely mind blowing! Atmosphere was cozy and the service was amazing! If you ever stop by, ask for Bryan to be your server! He’s so friendly and was awesome to have as a server!
The decor is fabulous and authentic. We were greeted by a very friendly young lady who was very excited about the food and drinks offered. We enjoyed a margarita and Presidente beer, along with Cubano and Roast Pork sandwiches. Both were very good. Located in downtown Concord, this is a new hidden gem for us! Well done!🙌
Amazing place! We went for my birthday and the staff is amazing! They made great recommendations and the flavors were top notch!
This was our 2nd time at Havana. We would go more often, but it's not that close to us. We like to go there on special occasions . There is major road construction at the front entrance, so I would recommend to park and enter from the back. Either way, I assure you, it will be well worth it. Small, very cozy dining area that can be intimate, yet enough room for larger parties of 8 or more. Tastefully decorated as Cuba. The service was excellent, she was very friendly and suggested a few entrees. We started with a sampling platter, which was delicious. It gave you a taste of several Cuban dishes, we liked them all so it did help with our ordering. I had the slow roasted pork, and my husband had the red snapper. Both were delicious . We had no room for dessert, but there were many options to choose from. The restaurant is losing business due to the construction, which is very sad. Hopefully they can keep it going till construction is done, and thrive then Well worth the hassle of getting there.
Had a great experience at Havana Carolina Restaurant & Bar. My server David was excellent super attentive and had great recommendations. I tried the empanadas and the Cubana sandwich, and both were presented well, good portions, and tasted amazing. The atmosphere was comfortable, the staff was friendly, and the food came out quick. Definitely worth checking out
This place was a bit out of the way for Mooresville and a bit hard to find but the food was excellent. The drinks did take a while to get to the table but they were good. The food could have been a bit warmer for a party of 5 people they tried to serve us at the same time but the temp was off on a dishes but still delicious. We will go back soon. Parking was free across the way in a parking lot.
This place was really nice. The service was really great. All of the staff was super polite, friendly, and willing to walking through the menu. About half the items we choose we're suggestions from our server. The appetizers the Chicken Empanadas (which my wife ended up ordering two to go) we're really good. I had the Plantain Chips and they were nice a crispy. Both our entrees where really good. Both Garden dishes (the sandwich and baskets) could be a little dry on their own, but added a little hot sauce did the trick for me. They have a ton of hot sauce options by the way. Our desert was fantastic. I don't think it was on the menu yet, but it was kind of like a Churro with Ice Cream on top. We will definitely be back!
My husband and I enjoyed Cuban sandwiches. I got fries for my side and he got fried plantains. The portions were ample and the food was delicious! The presentation was so pretty. I almost didn’t want to mess it up! We both have plenty to take home for another meal. Our service was over the top, as well! I highly recommend this place if you’re in Concord I’m looking for excellent Cuban food.
This place is worth the 1 1/2 hr drive! We ordered the two samplers. Now we know exactly what we want when we go back. This food was exceptional! The tamale was the best we've had. The pulled pork, there are no words, so delicious! The staff was very friendly. The only thing I didn't like was there are no prices listed. I told my family that I want to go back for my birthday. Not sure I can wait until May.
A Cuban cuisine that is amazing! My family and I are Cuban and we absolutely loved the food. We ordered the Tesoro Cubano, which carried a sample of a lot of different dishes and everything was astonishing authentic and rich in flavor. Downed with Natural Mango Smoothies. We will definitely be returning, and bringing friends and family. A hidden jewel that deserves to be found! Ask for Niurka the manager and tell her you want a taste of Cuba In North Carolina!
Drove 40 minutes to celebrate my son's birthday and it was worth it. For a Saturday night, it was busy but not overwhelming. Place was decorated for Halloween and the staff was also in costumes. Live music was entertaining. Our waitress Ana was pleasant. Service was quick and food was absolutely delicious. New experience for us and it was fantastic.
I love authentic Cuban food and this restaurant serves some of the best I’ve ever had. Besides the ambiance being so intimate and peaceful, the food and drinks are AMAZING and the staff is A1. The server made great recommendations, checked on us regularly without us feeling bombarded and even informed us that on Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays they have music and it gets packed, so reservations are recommended. I recommend the skirt steak and Ron Zombie for a drink! ❤️ This place
8yrs coming to Havana Carolina and still amazing. The food, the staff, the ambiance always on point. We are from Puerto Rico nd coming to this place always takes us back home. They take care of every detail. Highly recommended!
Amazing food, great flavors, and excellent service. Portions are generous, and everything was very well prepared. This was my second visit, and it definitely won’t be the last.
Tried Havana Carolina for the first time today & was very impressed! Aryoly was our server & she was so sweet; explained the menu, her favorites as well as most popular dishes. I had the spinach chicken dish, it was delicious! Would highly recommend! (Location is inside the Union Street Square)
Aryoly was our server and she was fantastic. Very polite and professional. We got there just after the lunch service. This is a Cuban restaurant and the food was delicious. I had the fried pork chunks and it was perfect. The Cubans and Mexicans prepare this dish differently. We will definitely be back.
I stopped to have lunch at the Havana Carolina restaurant and bar in Concord. What a treat that was. It’s tucked away off the main street in the little mall like area. It’s nicely decorated, and made me feel like I was James Bond in Die Another Day - although Halle Berry was nowhere to be seen. I had the Pollo Campesino (see picture) With beans and rice and green plantains. I had Cuban coffee to go with it. It was absolutely delicious. The service was fast and friendly. I highly recommend going there when you can.
first Time visiting here, We were greeted and seated immediately they explained the menu to us, and the food was delicious We noticed they have conga and bongos so we asked and sure enough they have a band on Saturdays Looking forward to coming again next time for the band and food of course👍🏽👍🏽
Such a great place! The food and drinks were delicious and everyone who worked here is so kind. Our server Bryan was awesome, highly recommend making a stop to Havana Carolina.
We have been wanting to go for a while now and finally had the chance today. We had to drive a good 25 minutes from Uptown Charlotte but wait every single mile! This place is a hidden gem in the heart of Concord. The food is extremely delicious and on point. The croquetas are perfect especially with the side of the cilantro sauce. The Ropa Vieja was some right and the final slam dunk, the cuban coffee, left us wanting more. We will be back, soon!
We stumbled into this lovely restaurant in search of dinner before a concert at the Davis Theater. We did not have a reservation but they quickly found us a table which we greatly appreciated. Our server was so friendly and happily suggested a couple of authentic dishes. I had the lechon with rice, beans & maduros. It was absolutely delicious and the fresh Cuban bread was heavenly. Huge portions, reasonable prices, friendly service & darling atmosphere. If you’re looking for a great dining experience in downtown Concord, don’t sleep on Havana Carolina. There is live music on Saturdays!
As a Cuban, walking into this restaurant felt like walking back into my abuela’s house! The ropa vieja was perfectly seasoned and shredded just right, tender, rich, flavorful. Desserts are immaculate. Staff was also amazing and attentive! I will definitely be coming back here on a regular basis! :)
I am from Miami, very familiar with authentic Cuban food! I have recently relocated to the area and decided to give this place a try. I can honestly say the food is the Real Deal! The tostones stuffed with pork and beef were amazing. We also ordered the steak and Cuban sandwiches which tasted great! Good quality food and nice presentation. The restaurant is inside a shopping strip, with parking nearby. The manager, Niurka and the waitress Aryoly were very friendly and welcoming. They have live Cuban music on Friday and Saturday evening which I will be back for! There’s also a small bar area. We will be back! 😍
Aryoly was the consummate hostess for this fabulous meal. She greets you with a smile and helpful ideas on what to try for your lunch. The food here is fresh, delicious and beautiful. If you have not tried this, come and do it!! She said there is live music on the weekends too! I am glad they are open Monday and have an atmosphere that will recharge you for the day. The tamale was my favorite, it is handmade and served wrapped in the husk, please try it.
A beautiful little spot downtown concord right on the main street. The restaurant is located in a building, and easy to get it. The inside is small but decorative. The food and service are outstanding. Drink specials and daily food specials. Music and dancing on Fri/sat nights. The Cuban sandwich was very standard but very good. The Cuban bread was authentic. Both entries came out together and hot. Will definitely be visiting again and ordering other Cuban fare.
We had a wonderful server who helped my husband and I select our meals. I had th Ropa Vieja, and my husband had the Lechon Asado. Both were very delicious and we highly recommend. They came with black beans and rice. The presentation of the plates were fancy.
I stopped by Havana 33 just planning to take a quick look, but I’m so glad I stayed! I was greeted by Niurka, who has the kind of energy that instantly makes you feel welcome. She convinced me to sit down and try one of the drinks she crafted—and WOW. I’m so glad I trusted her recommendation because it was absolutely delicious. She’s not only incredibly friendly but truly talented at what she does. The atmosphere was vibrant, the service was excellent, and Niurka made the whole experience unforgettable. I’ll definitely be back—and I’ll be asking for her again! 👏🍹💃
We tried this place out after wanting to find a really good Cuban sandwich and this place did not disappoint! The tostones were delicious as well. Our server was extremely helpful answering our questions and I wish I could remember his name. I’m sure he’s a great representation of Havana Carolina overall, so thank you! *I forgot to take pics of the food but the decor was very lovely, too!
We visited this restaurant for the first time this past Saturday. It was to celebrate my mother in laws 76th birthday. Thanks to Instagram as I never knew you all existed. I was able to quickly book a reservation online using Open Table which made it super easy and convenient. I would suggest for the future in the confirmation email that is sent maybe some directions on where one should park and that the restaurant is located inside of another building. We've never been before and had a hard time actually parking as the road was completely closed due to some severe construction. If not for the reservation and the special occasion, we might've gone elsewhere. Thankfully we did not! Bryan was our server and he was absolutely amazing! Great energy and super sweet! We started off with some appetizers. Their Tesoros Cubanos and Bolas De Yuca were oh so tasty! For our main meal, I ordered their Lechon Asado w/ Congri Rice & Maduros. My husband ordered the Lechon Asado w/ Congri Rice & Yuca Frita. My mother in law ordered the Masas De Cerdo Fritas w/ Congri Rice & a salad. My older daughter ordered the Masas De Cerdo Fritas w/ Congri Rice & Tostones. My youngest daughter ordered the Vaca Frita w/ Congri Rice & Tostones. The food was absolutely delicious! We stopped ourselves from eating it all to ensure we left room for dessert. The staff graciously played music and came out singing and dancing with a birthday Flan for my mother in law. She was pleasantly surprised and so happy. My husband ordered their Rice Pudding. My oldest and I shared their Tres Leche which was the best we've had since living in NJ. My youngest ordered their Churros w/ Chocolate Sauce on the side. We truly had the best time and everyone was so kind and attentive. We will absolutely come back and request Bryan again!
Food was delicious! We ordered the fried whole snapper but they were small, so we ended up ordering 2 of them. Drinks were good too. I recommend the guava colada. Service was decent. Staff are friendly. We will definitely come back!
The food was delicious today. We had been here before and noticed a good improvement in the flavor of the dishes. The black beans and rice were delicious as well as the yuca. We also noticed an improvement in the service. The prices are a bit high but overall very good restaurant for an authentic Cuban meal.
This was the first time here for me, my wife and our 2 friends that joined us. I took my wife here for her birthday and I have to say that we were extremely pleased by not only the food, music, atmosphere, but our waitress, Michelle was one of the most attentive people I have ever had the pleasure of encountering. She made sure that our table was satisfied to the fullest from the food, our regular drinks and of course our alcoholic ones as well. She was such a pleasure. My wife and I hope that we get her again. I would highly recommend this restaurant to anyone who loves really good food, music and a pleasant atmosphere all around. As you can see...our tab was a little high but so well worth it and she earned every bit of her tip.
First time dining at Havana Carolina; the food was excellent and authentic. Being from Miami I can say this definitely hits home. Service was also impeccable and hospitable. I had the pleasure of meeting and conversing with the owner, she was very welcoming. Our server April was very personable and professional. Can’t wait to visit again!
I have been wanting to try this restaurant for years and today I finally did! Havana Carolina is located in downtown Concord off of Union Street. My suggestion is to park behind the building where there is a parking lot off of Church Street versus Union Street. When entering through the front door you have to walk to the back to locate the restaurant. Havana Carolina has backdrop for a quick photo op! You know the girls love a good picture! When we walked in we were greeted by Bryan and seated immediately. It was pretty quiet when we first got there. The restaurant is decorated like a typical cuban cafe. Because this was my first time visiting I was overwhelmed by the menu but Bryan made suggestions and recommendations. We started with an appetizer that had a little of everything on it. The appetizer really is sufficient for two people, but both my friend and myself were famous so we also ordered entrées. I ordered the Cuban sandwich and my friend ordered the steak sandwich. I also had two Mojitos, which were made perfectly by Niurka. Although the drink was pretty, I was so glad that it was not too sweet. Niurka and Bryan showed excitement to have customers and both provided excellent customer service. You know sometimes you visit restaurants and the employees seem like they’re mad that you’re there- I didn’t get that feel here. The food was delicious. To add insult to injury I also ordered Tres Leche’s and it was so good sweet and moist. What I like most about my visit to this restaurant was the customer service sadly, customer service has gone downhill tremendously since the pandemic and it felt good to have someone who communicated well who is happy and funny. Tomorrow is Thursday and they are having specials on Mojitos. I may pop back in.
The first time I tried Cuban food was in Florida, this had me feeling like I was back in Miami. The food was great, the service was awesome. We sat at the bar and the waitress was very attentive. We were dancing and really enjoyed the music. Every Saturday 6-9, they have live music.
My family was visiting from Savannah. They are big fans of Cuban food, and this place did not disappoint! Everyone's food was delicious and our server, Bryan really made the experience fun. He was able to describe items on the menu and made excellent suggestions. I highly recommend this restaurant
My wife is half Cuban so we decided to have lunch at Havana carolina for the first time. When I tell you the food was great and flavorful. My wife was also impressed especially with how much knowledge and background story they had about where she is from. The atmosphere and customer service was also great. We would recommend this restaurant to anyone who would like the Havana experience. The drinks were also great not to string just right. This was definitely a great cultural lesson.
I am a Cuban born, Miami raised Charlotte transplant - so please trust me when I tell you that I have tried almost every Cuban restaurant in NC and none of them holds a candle to this gem. Our whole family absolutely adored this place - the flavors were authentic, the quality was excellent, the ambience was amazing, and the service was spectacular. 1000/10 recommend
Food was amazing. Staff was even better than amazing. Helpful in every way you can imagine. My only regret is that I not know about how great this restaurant was sooner!
We had a great experience tonight. The atmosphere is so welcoming. The staff made my family and I feel at home as soon as we walked in. Our server, David was amazing. Very attentive. The food is sooo delicious too. We left feeling happy and full.
We chose to dine at Havana Carolina last night for a quick bite and drink. We left totally satisfied, the food was on point but the staff was even better. Niurka and Brenda were so warm friendly and inviting, we found ourselves already planning our next visit and meal. A true gem in Downtown Concord.
Food, service, and Atmosphere were all 10 out of 10. We're a big family from Miami and it gave us flashbacks of some restaurants we use to eat at. We made reservations on a Saturday so there was a Live band/singer which also added to the atmosphere 🎶. I'd definitely go there again, staff was very helpful and festive. Can't go wrong with the Picadillo con arroz y frijoles y maduros 😋
Havana Carolina is a must-visit for authentic Cuban cuisine in Concord. I tried the beef empanadas—crispy and packed with flavor—and the churrasco steak, which was tender and juicy with rice and beans. Great atmosphere and friendly service! If you’re craving Cuban food near Charlotte, start with the empanadas. Highly recommend!
One of my friends with the best taste recommened this spot some time.We had plans to visit another place and this fantastic gem came to mind. My husband and I shared the tour of Cuba. It was the absolute best meal we've had out anywhere for the longest time. The service was also excellent. I recommend it all! Stop thinking about it. Just go, trust me. Dont forget desert and the COFFEE! Live music on Saturdays
An impromptu night for dinner turned into an amazing experience. I’d never had Cuban before, and always wanted to try. I had no idea what to order, but the waiter explained it and answered all of my questions with ease and assurance. The food was amazing! Atmosphere exciting. And the service was beyond phenomenal. I can’t wait to come back and have it again!
Absolutely delicious food. I recommend the Tesoros Cubanos as a sample appetizer. Both the Ropa Vieja and Vaca Frita were phenomenal. I had the flan for dessert and was pleasantly surprised, it was thick and almost had a cheesecake texture. Heavily recommend this restaurant for people looking for authentic Cuban food, and for those new to Cuban food. Additionally, Aryoly was an excellent waitress. She did a wonderful job taking care of us. She was ready to answer any questions we had and our glasses were never empty.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Absolutely Outstanding — One of the Best in the Nation! Havana Carolina is easily one of the best restaurants I’ve ever been to — not just in North Carolina, but anywhere in the country. The moment we walked in, the atmosphere hit us with pure energy: lively music, warm smiles, and an authentic Cuban vibe that made the whole night unforgettable. We ordered the Taste of Cuba sampler, and it was hands-down one of the best dining deals we’ve ever had. Every bite felt like home — the flavors reminded me of my family’s cooking growing up. From the tender pork and perfectly seasoned beef to the plantains and yuca, it was a flavor experience that hit every note. The drinks and Cuban coffee were phenomenal — honestly some of the best we’ve ever had eating out. The service was just as exceptional. The entire team worked together seamlessly, attentive without being overbearing, and genuinely seemed to enjoy creating a great experience for their guests. To top it all off, the live singer came by our table and jammed with us — that moment alone turned an already amazing dinner into something truly special. If you’re anywhere near Concord, Havana Carolina is an absolute must. Great food, great people, great energy — this place sets the bar high for what a dining experience should be.
I recently visited Havana Carolina in Concord and had a wonderful experience. The moment you walk in, the tropical décor, warm lighting, and subtle Cuban music make you feel like you’ve stepped into a little corner of Havana. The best of all was//: * The **cocktails**, especially the mojitos, were refreshing and well balanced. * **Service** was friendly and attentive; our server gave helpful suggestions and checked in without being overbearing. * There’s a **cozy, festive vibe**, particularly on Friday/Saturday nights with live music. It makes for a fun dinner atmosphere. **A few minor notes:** * The restaurant can get busy on weekends, so reservations or arriving early is wise. * It’s a bit tucked back in a building without prominent street signage, so the entrance was slightly tricky to spot. * Parking is somewhat limited—plan for that ahead of time. All in all, Havana Carolina is a gem for Cuban cuisine in the area. I’ll definitely be returning to try more of their menu and enjoy the ambiance.
We had the best experience at Havana Carolina in Concord, NC! Niurka, the manager, was so welcoming and made us feel right at home. The entire restaurant has such a warm, friendly, and inviting environment, it truly feels like family. I ordered the palomia steak with congri and maduros, and every bite tasted like it came straight from abuela’s kitchen. The tostones appetizer was absolutely incredible and set the tone for the whole meal. The rest of our party ordered the Cuban sandwich, and they loved it just as much. Perfectly prepared and full of flavor. From start to finish, everything was delicious, authentic, and cooked with so much care. I highly recommend Havana Carolina if you’re looking for authentic Cuban food, amazing hospitality, and a welcoming atmosphere. We’ll definitely be back!
Food was amazing, I had the Tesoros Cubano, which is listed as an appetizer it has a little bit of everything. My favorite were empanadas and the tamales. Paired with their cilantro sauce is amazing. Atmosphere is such a cute cuban café, relaxing but vibrant at the same time. I had 2 drinks a mango mojito an a cuban hurricane. Cuban hurricane was on the sweeter side however you could most definitely taste the alcohol. The mango mojito on the hand, is and has been the best mojito ive had. Exactly what a mojito should taste prefect balance of mint and sweetness. The bartender knows exactly what their doing. 10/10
Celebrated a birthday lunch with my husband at Havana Carolina. It was an impromptu decision and the best Decision . We have discovered a gem in Concord, nc. Great atmosphere, music, food and an excellent service from Alejandro. I was celebrated with my favorite dessert ever, flan… and I must say it was the best I’ve had and I e had many. We will be going back regularly and taking friends and family. Like to try the live band on a Saturday evening.
Great atmosphere and great service. Our waiter was awesome. The pallomila steak was great and so was the tostones were amazing. The congri was a little over cooked. Since i’m from South Florida it’s hard to compare Cuban food from what we get in Miami. I was more used to a more citrus flavor on the steak but the steak here did have good flavor and was cooked perfectly. so i did enjoy it. The restaurant is very nice and clean and all the staff were very friendly. To me customer service is more important and that they nailed. would come again if i’m up this way in future.
Came for dinner for the first time and enjoyed the food. Ordered the lechon and chicken dishes with a mojito for a drink. The chicken to vegetable ratio was a little off. Would have appreciated more chicken for the price. The plating of the lechon also was off with the lechon being in a bowl. Nothing to ruin the overall dinner though. The atmosphere was nice but loud. They had a live band which is cool but made it hard to converse.
Good Cuban food, if in the area we will return. The boiled yucca was one of my favorite it’s was flavorful and fork tender, the mojo on top made the dish. The black beans were seasoned to perfection, you can eat them alone. We also tried the vegetarian tostones and the yucca balls. The tostones were a little stale the precooked a sat for a while. Lots of seating, live music some nights
Cute little place and they have live music on certain nights. Being from South Florida, we're particular about Cuban food. We found this food to be average at best. Bryan, our server, was great and the staff, very friendly. Our favorite thing was the tostones cups with lechon inside and a touch of cheese on top.
I wanted to love this place. Great vibes, great service. Unfortunately, the price and the food fell short. I ordered the spinach stuffed chicken and while the flavor was good, it was so very dry and overcooked, and the same with my husbands chicken. $23ish for two overcooked chicken tenders, small side salad and a plantain is pretty crazy imo. I will probably not return.
Food was excellent. Atmosphere was very pleasant. Service was off tonight, we were forgotten. Server was more into another and the conversation. We had to pleed for water and wait long after being served for Server to return to the table. I don't believe this is the norm yet it leaves a terrible first impression. Server is very pleasant when present. Always remember your patrons, all of them. The food is still superior.
I’ve been coming to this Cuban restaurant for years, and it used to be one of my favorites. The atmosphere is charming, the venue is small and tucked away (almost a hidden gem), and I always loved the live music on Saturdays. The first few times I visited, the food was flavorful, and the whole experience felt authentic and enjoyable. Unfortunately, over the years, the quality has gone downhill. On my most recent visit, the food was disappointing — the beans were plain, and the dishes overall lacked the flavor I remembered. I even brought a friend who is particular about food and restaurants, and he was surprised I had recommended the place given how poorly the food was prepared. The cocktails were another letdown — very light on alcohol, to the point where my friend had to ask for extra (and was willing to pay more) just to get a proper drink. On top of that, the pricing doesn’t match the experience. For the type of venue, location, and quality, the menu feels overpriced. They’re not in South End Charlotte or a high-demand area, yet the cost is more in line with upscale city restaurants. Adjusting their prices to better reflect the quality and setting would make more sense. I don’t know if the chef has changed or if recipes have been altered, but the consistency and taste simply aren’t what they used to be. Sadly, after this last visit, I don’t think I’ll be returning.
I’ve been a customer for years, but the quality and service have gone downhill. They often close early without notice—leaving customers locked out with orders already placed and paid for. My most recent order (pork chunks with congri and plantains) was missing the plantains, came with only three small pieces of pork for $24, and the onions looked and tasted old. In the past, the same meal came with 5–6 pieces of pork. It’s clear they just handed me leftovers instead of a proper meal. Between the poor service, reduced portions, and declining food quality, I won’t be returning.
