This is a low stress, low key place that works hard to make you feel welcomed. Staff are friendly and very patient. The food is excellent. Please know, the portions are HUGE and everything could be shared. Our favorites were the chicken lettuce bowls and their wings. However, everything we tried was excellent. BTW, the Coconut Margarita is the bomb! Plus they have an exceptional beer selection. If you're on the island, give this place a change
Went for lunch on a weekday, found excellent parking, plenty of choice tables available. The waitress was Johnny on the Spot during our entire visit even it's an Olympic Gold Medal match on that she was clearly interested in, real "duty first" service. Everything came out hot and fresh. None of us were prepared for for portions being so massive. The leftovers could have been a complete second meal if we knew it would have survived the afternoon in the shipyard spoiling in the car. Most definitely a place I'll tell team members about as we rotate through this project. ⭐
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ My wife and I went to Nicky Rotten’s Bar & Grill on Coronado Island on Friday night, and it was absolutely fantastic. The restaurant itself was clean, vibrant, and had an amazing atmosphere—plus a beautiful view looking back toward downtown San Diego from Coronado. My wife ordered one of their classic American smash burgers, and she said it was hands-down the best hamburger she’s ever had. I went with the baby back ribs, and the bourbon barbecue sauce was outstanding—perfectly tangy and sweet, and incredibly flavorful. Even the fries deserve a shoutout: fresh, hot, and seriously delicious. The service was wonderful from start to finish, making the whole experience even better. Great food, great service, great views—Nicky Rotten’s is a must-visit when you’re on Coronado. We’ll definitely be back!
I'm absolutely obsessed with this place! It's filled with so many happy memories and brings back a flood of good times. The wings are mouth-watering, and their creative burgers and sandwiches are seriously delicious. Whether I'm catching a game or meeting up with friends and family, this spot is my top choice. The atmosphere is electric, and the views of the San Diego skyline are stunning. Don't miss the new happy hour menu and craft cocktails they're awesome! Highly recommend!
Restaurant Name quickly became my favorite spot in Coronado! I visited for the first time because they honor the Valor app, which gave me an amazing 50% off. From the moment we arrived, our waitress Amanda was incredibly helpful and knowledgeable. She knew the menu inside and out, gave excellent recommendations, and checked on us frequently throughout the meal. Amanda was also very patient while I figured out how to use the Valor app, making the whole experience smooth and enjoyable. This kind of attentive and friendly service is exactly why I want to come back regularly with my family and friends. Highly recommend!
Food is pretty good, their burgers are MASSIVE. It's not possible to eat the entire layer in a single bite, even compressed. The burger is really amazing. Their chicken salad is okay, not worth $20. Plenty of seating, but service is slow. They seem to be understaffed. Their mocktails are also amazing.
Wow! This place was amazing. Great food, great service, and an amazing view of the harbor. We are definitely coming back. And we did. We still feel the same way. The fried cob fish was absolutely delicious. Also, the onion rings were nice and crunchy. The hamburger was cooked to perfection and very tasty.
Portion size was great. Wonderful for sharing. Service was okay. Wish they offered more gluten free options rather than just a salad or lettuce wrap a burger.
They have some of the best food I've tried in San Diego so far. They had a few hiccups when it came to service but they corrected the mistakes and kept a great attitude the entire time. Austin greeted us and got us seats with great views. Our server Jessica was working hard and kept checking on us. The manager Joe made sure everything ended up on a high note. I would highly recommend a visit.
Indoor and outdoor seating. Open air throughout the indoor. Very casual and at ease setting. Staff was friendly. Parking and prices are typical of Coronado, low and high respectively. Food was good with generous servings and inviting presentations. Burger and salad prices ranged between $17- $20+. Corner location and close to the ferry landing.
I previously enjoyed some wings and fries here about 6 years ago. They were AWESOME! So, after completing some customer discovery I decided to reward myself and try their classic burger and fries--they DID NOT disappoint, AT ALL! It appears that ownership may have changed, I certainly hope their food and service do not. Sidebar: I went around 1:30 P.M. on a weekday. There seemed to be a regular bar crowd enjoying their time there but it seems to be a place that can get extremely noisy so plan to focus on the food and not the conversation if you go in the evening. This establishment does not charge a "Hardship Surcharge."
It appears the experiences at this restaurant according to the reviews are somewhat bipolar, either 5 or 2 stars. Something is 'off' - I don't know if ownership or management reads these but ... it seems this place is dying, damn near at death's door. The burger I had was good tasting, however, the menu selection was almost embarrassing, the epitome of 'basic'. Saturday evening at 7:00 PM there were just 8 patrons total in a dining room that seats easily 70+, not counting outside or the bar... on a Saturday evening!! That place should have been hopping. If I were the owner, this would be a massive concern for me. The server was a sweetheart, truly she was, and perhaps was somewhat new due to her unfamiliarity of the menu. 13 minutes to get 3 glasses of wine with only 8 patrons present - the server apologized saying they had to go upstairs to get it a new bottle ... mmm, okay... Not sure if there's an electrical glitch in their lighting system, but the overheads were flickering and flashing all dinner. UFC was on all the TVs and was blaring loud, which was magnified by such an empty dining room - was difficult to have conversation. Anyway, reading the other comments, it seems there may have been an ownership change, or a menu change recently - I'm not quite sure but guys, the menu is very basic.
I have been here a few times over the years, and it’s been a fun time. But recently it seems like they have made some questionable changes. It is more expensive for the same food. Secondly, they got rid of the Guinness and other beers on tap. Three-all vegetarian food is now limited to a salad and a very unappetising falafel wrap. But what annoyed me the most is that I left an 18% tip for what was very minimalist and slow service, and they hid the fact that the 20% was already added on. This meal for 5 and a toddler cost over $230, which for the experience and food quality is insane! Also, I have never seen this place so quiet, and now I see why as we won’t be back.
Trust the reviews here. I didn’t think it was that bad so thought I’d try it myself. The server was nice, but took 15 minutes before my order was taken. I then waited 30 minutes for a smash burger. The server stopped by a couple of times to apologize, I don’t blame her for how slow the food came out, but when it finally did, the fries were literally room temperature and the burger was just awful. The bread was already soggy and it was warm, not even hot. The caramelized onions was only a couple of pieces at the center (it was the only picture I took at that point because I was so disappointed that I couldn’t taste it the first few bites). Atmosphere was nice, there was a game playing so the crowd was loud and rowdy which was fun to see and hear.
OMG - they must have changed hands and WOW!! The menu was SLASHED! The food is the same price, but worse than fast food. I ordered the chicken sandwich and it was tasteless. My companion ordered the burger (that he says was fine) and he got TWICE as many fries as I did... what the heck, guys. I pointed it out to the waitress, who ordered me more (no cost)... but WHY would that happen!? Stop coming to Nicky's until they do better!!
I’m really frustrated with my experience here. The burger was good with upgrade garlic fries per bartender recommendation, and the service was fine, but $60 with tip for a burger (cheese removed) and one drink is absolutely ridiculous. As a local, I was excited to try this place, but I left feeling ripped off. This was my first visit, and likely be my last.
Went to watch a game, last night. All door were 9pen and freezing inside. Waited to be serviced what a long wait. Food was good. Service sucked. Poor appifere. Not a lot of people. There are way better places to go for good burgers
I rarely complain about food, but this has to be the worst food I’ve had in a restaurant. I ordered the nachos with chicken and they were absolutely the worst nachos I have ever had. It’s just nachos how can it be so bad? Then I had the Cobb salad with shrimp and it was the saltiest fried shrimp you can possibly imagine it was disgusting. I had heard about this place for so long and it was my first time coming here. The service was great and the drinks were good, but the food is absolutely horrible. If you’re thinking about coming here, just come for the drinks only.
I have a theory that the new ownership is going to wait out all the review bombing of the restaurant because no place on the island is going to go out of business. Eventually, people will forget how amazing this place used to be and accept the massive downgrade and it will become the norm. Service was great and staff was friendly. Food was horribly overpriced, underwhelming and was 1/10th the quality it used to be. 2 cups of water and a plate of nachos was $28. The nachos used to be cheaper, and I will attach photos to compare new and old. (Note that yes we ate some of the nachos before taking the picture) The downgrade to the nachos happened to every single food item I saw in the restaurant. Just a huge bummer honestly. No need to come here, it's going to become a typical tourist trap now.
