Vaca is a Spanish restaurant known for its high-quality meats and tapas. Many reviewers rave about the flavors transporting them to Spain. Some found the food underwhelming for the price, and a few noted inconsistencies in food quality.
Tip: Great spot for celebrating a special occasion or treating yourself. Consider sitting on the outback patio for a quieter experience.

This is easily one of the premier destinations for authentic paella in the United States. I highly recommend the seafood paella, though the Spanish octopus and seared scallops are equally exceptional. Whatever you do, do not skip the Basque cheesecake; it is truly the finest I have ever had. The patio offers a remarkably cozy and romantic atmosphere, perfect for a special evening. While the service is attentive and professional, please keep in mind that the paella is prepared to order and requires a bit of patience—it is well worth the wait.
Vaca is easily one of my favorite spots in Costa Mesa. The tapas are flavorful and fun to share - every dish hits. The steak was incredible, can even pick it out yourself. Perfectly cooked, super tender, and full of flavor. Great vibe, great service. If you’re into tapas and quality meat, this place is a must.
Wow... simply wow. The service of the waiters are the old school traditional one, if you're used to eat outside often, you know what I'm talking about. Responsive, fast, attentive and straightforward. The food is absolutely delicious, I'm still dreaming about the cheese boars (if you go, don't even think about it, just order it). I wish they would've had more space inside but not a problem at all, we had such a good time that I can't complain about anything. It's worth to mention the parking is accessible and the area is beautiful, very secure and nice for a walk after dinner at night.
I've been to many highly rated restaurants but found Vaca to have the most EXCELLENT service. We never had to call our server for anything. Glasses were refilled before we realized it was low, food came out as it should, and details were attended to immediately. It made dinner even more delicious.
Had a fantastic experience at Vaca. Everything on their menu is delicious. Our server, Joel was absolutely amazing with his service and recommendations. We will definitely be back!
One of the best restaurants in OC. I come here regularly and always leave with a smile on my face. The food is fabulous and will delight your taste buds, but their bartenders are unmatched!!! No matter what your poison is, they will give you a cocktail that will blow your mind. I’d put up their craft against any in the industry. Rene, Rae and Zoe are the wonder trio! They are AMAZING!!! Can’t say enough about the service, their attitude and their professionalism. And their manager, Donnie, will always take care of you. You can’t go wrong here.
Fantastic food!!! I had been to Broadway, Amar's other restaurant in Laguna, which has been one of my favorites for a while now but I had not yet been to Vaca. Was so excited to visit and they exceeded expectations! Every dish was incredibly well done and there wasn't part that wasn't amazing. The gin and tonic is to DIE for. Stephanie and her team did an outstanding job and I will be visiting again and again. Definitely check it out.
Amazing food. Pretty small interior, but you can see their spanish jamon and aged meats. They have a great selection of drinks - especially gin. The food was very tasty. We had a variety of appetizers and the paella. I would recommend the stuffed squid appetizers, the shishito peppers, and the vegetable and seafood paellas. It's a pricy place, but the quality is excellent.
Great selection of tapas that are mostly very close to what you'd get in Spain. Excellent bar and a nice selection of wines. Service was casual but understandable as the place was PACKED. Good was delicious. We did tapas only but would definitely go back for paella. (Photo of sea urchin scrambled eggs. )
Great atmosphere, fantastic service, and the food is about as good as it gets in the area around South coast. I strongly recommend the Beetlejuice drink (mezcal tequila), the Brussel sprouts, meatballs (I forget the Spanish name... The picture I posted with the cucumbers - you can't really see the meatballs but they're there). Everything we tried was amazing. STRONGLY recommend this place. And if you stay at the westin it's about 50 steps from the front door.
The service was amazing, it seemed that there was always someone attending to us but I never felt rushed. The food was delicious, everything was perfectly cooked. The scallops had a perfect sear and they melted in my mouth. Everything was super flavorful and we'll balanced. My personal favorite was the paella. If I had any issue it was the the slightly noisy environment, that is kind of expected in a popular and busy restaurant with many hard surfaces. I wouldn't let that deter me from returning here to enjoy this amazing food.
One of my favorite restaurants. Tapas are too good to choose between, so eventually, I have tried all of them from multiple sittings. Paella is rich and authentic. The meat selections on the charcuterie board are especially good, and it’s the perfect size. The pisco sour reminds me of my time in Peru. Everything is high end authentic. A bit of a weird location, but a nice patio and mood lighting in the interior.
Awesome! Had some A5-10 Wagyu and it was unbelievable. Really nice selection of meats to pick from. When you want steak that is a step above Maestro's, Flemings, Ruth's Chris or Morton's, go here. The presentation and service are not quite the same, but then again... The Meat! Awesome place for carnivores.
Great assortment of tapas and the steaks are mouth watering. If you like gin, they have a variety of gin and tonics, my favorite was The Libra. Otherwise the have a wide variety of Spanish influenced cocktails. Thank you Vaca for making our dinner before the show enjoyable yet efficient! We will be back to sit and enjoy the ambiance at a future date!
This place is truly amazing!! We ordered 5 dishes, and every single dish was perfect. Fried Artichoke was a bit oily for my taste but still it was tasty. Cheese cake was perfection! Small enough to finish. New York strip was perfection!! I’d totally come back.
My friend and I recently visited the bar and had a wonderful time. Our server was incredibly knowledgeable about gin, and she helped us to choose a variety of different gin drinks to try. We learned a lot about different gins and how they taste. The atmosphere at the bar is lively and fun, and it's a great place to meet up with friends or go for a date night.
We were planning to go from San Diego to see Mullein Rouge. And while there to have dinner with the friends afterword. My husband chooses Vaca Restaurant, but were unable to make the reservation for 4… due to the unavailability. However! The hostess, that my husband talked too suggested to stop by after the show, and if they would have availability, she will sit us up. So, we came. There was a bar-table available, and she sat us up. Attention! She remembers the week-old conversation with my husband! Impressive! We have to give more than 5 stars for everything! Delicious food, nice presentation, great atmosphere, 10 stars to the staff and server!!! It is defiantly exceeded our expectations!
Vaca is a breath of fresh air around Orange County. They create beautiful, unique sharable dishes. Come and order a bunch and let everyone have a bite of each. Most of their plates are tapas style, so only a few bites, but they are wonderful. There are a few larger dish options but I feel like Vaca is at its best when you bring a group and have fun with all their smaller sharing plates.
I cannot tell you how much I loved my experience here. My husband and I came for our anniversary and were able to enjoy a slow paced dinner with amazing drinks and even more amazing food. If you like good quality food, I highly recommend this place. We tried a lot of things from Spanish octopus to foie gras (my personal favorite) but everything was meticulous and delicious. They have a house cocktail called the Vaca Tonic. If you try nothing else, that drink is a must try.
Absolutely incredible.....The best seafood Paella ever! It is better than you can get it in Spain.
Vaca in Costa Mesa offers an extraordinary dining experience with its vibrant Spanish cuisine. The ambiance is warm and inviting, perfect for both casual and special occasions. Highlights of the meal included: Coctails all 4 were amazing. • Tapas: The Scallops , Tuna Tataki, Gem Salad were standout dishes, bursting with flavor. • Main Course: The Paella de pescado, rich with Large Shrimp , Clams and fish was a generous portion that delighted the palate. • Dessert: Cheesecake and Tres Leches cake moist and melted in mouth , provided a sweet finish to an unforgettable meal. Overall, Vaca is a must-visit for tapas lovers and fans of Spanish cuisine
My fiance and I came here to celebrate our new jobs and we were blown away. The food was unbelievable, I think this is the best steak I've ever had in my life. Getting to pick your own steak from the case is a real treat. We also got a couple of tapas which were delicious. She got the Paella, which was a huge portion and absolutely loaded with all kinds of meats. The rice was cooked to perfection. Service was great, ambiance is lovely, I think my only complaint was our table was pretty small and wobbly, not ideal given the price of the meal, but a minor gripe at most. If you're celebrating or trying to impress someone, this is the place to go. We'll absolutely come back for sure. I may go try and find another job just so I've got an excuse to back 😂
I've been here more than two handfuls of times and is one of my favorite restaurants so I have to give 5 stars. However, the service seems to be lacking recently as I've noticed new server faces and prices including valet have increased. I usually if not exclusively come here for celebrations, anniversaries, birthdays, and the like. I've tried almost everything except the cured meats because I can't ever resist the tapas and paellas. My favorite thing is the tapas with the foie gras sauce, I'd have just the sauce as a gravy for thanksgiving if I could. The cocktails are also amazing. I recently visited Spain so the paellas at Vaca are just ok by comparison but highly recommended trying nonetheless. I typically order 5 tapas and drinks or 3 tapas and a paella. I feel the ideal experience is for 2 people as my last experience with 4 wasn't quite the same as I'm used to. Overall this place is great and I definitely recommended making reservations on Resy.
Fantastic food and outstanding service from Joel, Marco, Cesar, Larry, and the rest of the team—we’re regulars for a reason. The wine selection is top-notch, so we always enjoy a bottle with dinner. What really stands out, beyond the food and service, is hearing from the staff that the owners treat them well. Knowing that makes us want to keep coming back to support such a great business.
First time here & similar style entrance like the other steakhouses in Costa Mesa. I chose to park in the structure across the street since Vaca validates otherwise its valet. The bar & wine racks are impressive as you enter. Dining area is very simple, but fits well with the theme. Due to COVID-19 the indoor area is spread out & fewer tables, but it creates a beautiful atmosphere. Definitely call in your reservation if you want to sit inside. The staff very helpful from the minute we walked in until we left. The recommendations from our waiter were spot on & he recommended to order the paella first since it's a 30 minute process. The tapas are small, but were perfect as we waited on the main course. The paella can easily feed 3 adults plus we ordered prime skirt steak which was the perfect size to share as well. For desert we kept it simple with the homemade ice cream. The flavors vary & you get 3 scoops. Perfect to share. Overall price was fair as compared to other similar restaurants in the area. Remember to ask your server for a validation before you leave. Also use your tickets at the automated gate not the pay station!
My hubby surprised me to this place for my birthday recently and I have to say the food & service at this place is beyond superb! Our waiter suggested the best wine that went perfectly with the food we had. We also had our hand at the Iberico ham that melted in our mouth (highly recommend that)! The tapas were paired beautifully with other ingredients that I would’ve never thought meshed well together & I was able to taste every single thing in each plate. Nothing was overbearing or overly seasoned. My only vice is the churros we had. They were a bit too thick for my liking and were undercooked in the middle, but this doesn’t stop me from giving this place 5 stars. Thank you for the lovely experience & amazing dishes!!
5 Stars for service. The crew was really nice and attentive; the place, ambience and decor are top notch. We had tapas, so I have yet to try their steak. The three tapas I really liked and would recommend are, the eggplant, the grilled beef tongue and the patatas bravas. The cocktails were on point!. Some suggestions would be have larger tables (too little space for privacy for an upscale restaurant) and maybe some music matching the Spanish theme.
When it comes about Spanish food in Orange County, there’s no question that chef Amar Santana knows about it. We liked the atmosphere there. A good place to chill out. The bar table corner looked cool as well. We started with the oxtail tapas which was absolutely delicious and full of flavours. The platter was super outstanding. Pata Negra ham, Serrano ham adding some wonderful chorizo de Pamplona is a perfect platter. Pork belly melted in our month! It’s a must try! Paella was good but missing a little more azfran. Something to work on. Wine selection was good. Dessert was good too! Worth a visit!
Jay was an amazing assistant server, the food was great but his service made all the difference. He was very personable and made sure we were fully taken care of. Also the bacon wrapped dates blew my mind.
This is the best meal I've had in a long time, and that is saying something because I used to live in Chicago and have been to some great restaurants. We were lucky enough to walk in on a Saturday night and only have a short wait to get 2 seats at the bar. The bartender was very attentive to us even though she was so busy. Both cocktails I had were interesting and delicious, along with being beautiful. The tapas style made it easy to order just a of couple things at a time and enjoy them before moving on to something new. Everything we ate was amazing, but my favorite was the bone marrow with beef cheek. The meal wasn't cheap but was worth every penny.
Quintessential and chic Spanish spot with all the greatest tapas hits (patatas bravas, gambas al ajillo, pulpo) plus some nice original twists (braised oxtail, a nice list of veggie dishes). Solid G&T list, wines galore. And beautiful large format beef. Get a bunch of stuff to share, throw it in the middle of the table, and wonder why you haven't been back to Spain in a couple years. Pricey but worth it for a big night out with friends or family.
Had an absolutely wonderful time as Vaca. The food was great and flavorful. The vegetable paella is totally worth it! Also, I’m a vegetarian and I have to say I left feeling like the menu genuinely had something for those who don’t eat meat instead of having items that seem like an after thought. Will be coming back here again and again.
This place is fantastic. Exactly what I’m looking for to score some delicious, authentic tapas. From the pan con tomate to the gambas, it had everything I was looking for and it all tasted fantastic. They seem to really push a wide variety of alcohol and cocktails, but didn’t offer quite as much Spanish wine as I would expect. In the end, it’s a bit of a Spanish/Steak/Craft Cocktail spot that I’m sure most will love. Shoot, I’d buy tickets to a show nearby just to have an excuse to sneak in to Vaca for a bite. It is an upscale place with prices to match. Space indoors is a bit narrow, I expect it can be quite loud when busy. Res recommended.
Food was excellent, great fresh ingredients and amazing flavors. The look and feel of the place matches the lever of service provided by the staff. A MUST if you are in the OC area
My family and I popped in after seeing The Nutcracker and had a great dinner. The food was wonderful, the service was spot on, and everyone we encountered was warm and friendly. Our server Joel was awesome. The flan may be the best I’ve had.
O. M. G. The flavors of the jamon iberico took me all the way to Madrid! It was perfect. The cava and gambas al ajillo were great too. Would definitely go back when visiting the OC in California.
I visited Vaca to celebrate a friend’s birthday, and the moment we walked in, we were amazed by the impressive display of aged meats and the dishes being prepared right in the kitchen. Once seated, our server greeted us warmly, and as each dish arrived, we couldn’t help but be impressed. The quality, the flavors everything was exceptional. I’ll definitely be returning again. Highly recommended!
I highly recommend trying out Vaca for Spanish tapas and more! Great spot for celebrating a special occasion or treating yourself. The staff were accommodating, kind, and attentive. The interior was inviting, with moody lighting and fantastic decor. Dining here is a premium experience, and the prices reflect that, but it was so worth the treat. We checked in for our dinner reservations and were seated promptly at a large table on the patio, with warmers and a view of the giant Christmas tree outside. The drink menu offers crafted drinks, Spanish wines, zero-proof cocktails, and more! I had the Georgia on My Mind that had a zero-proof whiskey base—very satisfying. We ordered a bunch of tapas (small plates), a couple of entrees, and sides to share among our table. Some tapa items were so good that I wanted a plate all to myself. A few menu highlights we enjoyed. - Gambas Al Ajillo (sauteed shrimp) - Rabo de Toro (oxtail) was very tender and flavorful. - Carpaccio was so good! I wish I had one order to myself. - Croqueta de Paella was so tasty. - Jamón Serrano Fermin with three cheeses was presented as a charcuterie board with the famous jamón. - Paella Valencia is a seafood paella that we all enjoyed. - Prime Ribeye was delicious, and most of the cut was cooked perfectly (medium rare), yet a few spots were more raw and chewy--still a good choice if you like steak. - Patatas Bravas was delightful with crispy potatoes and a savory sauce - Churros con Chocolates is a classic dessert. - Basque Cheesecake was the perfect ending. Overall, we had a blast, and most of what we ordered was excellent. We also saw Chef Amar Santana (chef/owner) talking with a few guests, but we didn't get a chance to chat with him this time. It was still a treat to see he's around. Other notes: - Valet parking is available for $12 - Self-parking is available at a nearby parking structure or across the street at the South Coast Plaza parking lots.
Wonderful servers and the most delicious food. We had braised oxtail which was so tender amd full of flavor. The duck prosciutto was rich, delicte, and a delughtful bite. It had such a luxurious mouthfeel from the layer of cured fat. YUM!! We also had the octopus, which was very tender though it could have used a tad more flavor.
This restaurant transported my wife and I back to Spain, it was phenomenal. Everything smelled so good, we tore into it before we got half ravaged pictures, but we did have the presence of mind to get really good pictures of the sangria. I would happily purchase their bravas sauce by the jar. We tried both the red and white sangria, while our server said the red was more popular, we liked the white more. Next time we will try the rose so we can pick a favorite. We’ll be back, driving to Costa Mesa is way cheaper than flying to Spain.
Who knew one of Orange County's best meals would be found in a business park? Hands down: Vaca served up one of the best steaks around. In fact, the quality and flavor was as good as - if not better than - the meals on my recent trip to Argentina. I went with the skirt steak, which was served with both the house steak sauce and a creamy chimichurri. I also got an order to the roasted broccolini. Both were ridiculously good, and I can't to try more items on the next trip!
Vaca Spanish Restaurant offers a delightful culinary experience, highlighted by its commitment to high-quality meats and diverse menu options. The meat selections are impressive, showcasing tender cuts cooked to perfection, each dish seasoned exquisitely to enhance its natural flavors. The desserts are nothing short of fantastic. The ambiance is warm and inviting, making it an ideal spot for both casual dinners and special occasions. Overall, Vaca is a gem for anyone craving authentic Spanish cuisine.
Party of 6 went for dinner on a Wednesday evening in July. We had an outdoor reservation and were seated quickly upon arrival. We started with a bunch of tapas, and they were all pretty good. I especially liked the lamb meatballs. Then, we had a steak and a seafood paella to share, followed by churros. Food was okay, some of the steak was real good. Service was a bit slow, but friendly. Came to around 120 per head including tips and taxes. Had a bottle of red wine for the table as well.
Tapas spot close to the Sergestrom Theater. Came here for a pre-show dinner at 5pm and made a reservation online in advance. It’s a short walk away from the theater, so it’s a good spot when you’re trying to catch a show. Note that the paella does take about 40 minutes to cook, so budget your time accordingly. My family of four shared the following: Bikini sandwich - Simple, but I liked this a lot. Croquettes - standard dish; I was neutral about it Alcachofa (Artichokes) - nicely fried and the aioli was good Lubinda (sea bass) - my mom wanted this one; the sauce is good and it’s a healthy option Mollejas (veal sweetbreads) - this was all my dad but he really enjoyed it Jamon Serrano and Sheep’s Milk quesos - these came together on a charcuterie board with pickles and marmalades. Paella de carne - very rich and lots of meat. It may be too heavy for some Beef marrow - also very rich - my sister enjoyed it a lot. Churros for dessert - this comes in three and a chocolate sauce on the side. We had leftover paella but unfortunately had to throw it away since Sergestrom doesn’t allow outside food. Otherwise, this was an enjoyable meal.
50 day aged beef is delicious and recommend, if you can spare the change, the Kobe is really, really good. I loved the potatoes, a bit spicy for the wife, but I liked them. Their house mixed drinks are very delicious. My only worry is the space. Not the place for a more secluded dinner but quite nice inside.
My anticipation for dining at Vaca was high, but regrettably, it didn't meet my expectations. While the hostess was attentive and polite, and our server kind (though a bit overzealous with appetizer suggestions), the narrow, close-quartered seating felt a bit confined. The food, though good, coupled with a lengthy wait for its arrival and a presentation that felt overly staged rather than distinctive, was disappointing. The overall ambiance, a mix of chatter and music, made it difficult to fully enjoy conversation. I would recommend Vaca if you're looking for a casual place to dine and have time to spare.
Came here from a recommendation and had a very pleasant evening. My husband and I agreed it was a high 3 out of 5, so we rounded up to 4. We ordered embutidos to start with jamòn serrano fermìn, ibèrico chorizo, and 3 cheeses (manchengo, mahon aged 12 mo, and caña de cabra). All of these items were delicious and the accompaniments were also delightful. From the tapas we ordered pulpo a la gallega, piquillos rellenos, and panza de cerdo. The pulpo a la gallega was incredibly tender and delicious and probably my favorite dish. The piquillos rellenos we also delicious, but I think my husband enjoyed them more than I did. I'm not sure I was too fond of the cheese it was stuffed with, so that is my personal preference and not a mark as to the quality of the food. The panza de cerdo was probably the most disappointing. Unfortunately, this was far over-cooked. The meat was horribly dry and chewy and the sauce did very little too remedy the texture. We abandoned it after each having a small piece. Since we were celebrating my birthday, I received a special almond cake that's off the menu. Additionally, we ordered the tres leches and churros for dessert. (We wanted to try them all and our eyes were definitely bigger than our stomachs). The almond cake was absolutely delicious. It was a small, dense cake that was not too sweet, but balanced perfectly. The tres leches was very well made and the fruit accompaniments were fresh and went well with the cake. The churros were churros. They were delicious and made fresh, but nothing too special about them. The dining area was a bit cramped. We felt like all the tables were practically on top of each other. The restaurant is pretty small, so it makes sense they were making do with the room they had, but it was a little uncomfortable and the table next to us did start to get very loud as the drinks came out.
Cocktails were great and tapas were great. Prime dry aged ribeye steak wasn’t that great and certainly not worth the price ($150 for 2.5 lbs where the bone was half the weight and the bone was so charred that you couldn’t eat the meat). Servers were solid and ambiance was good. Would come back for tapas and drinks.
We went to this restaurant on a recommendation from a family member. We rounded up to a 4 out of 5 but I think it was closer to 3.5 due to the flavor of the food and the atmosphere. The drinks were pretty delicious I must say. I had a royal tea which has gin and Brandy and it was absolutely amazing. The presentation was also really nice with a circular ice cube that had a flower inside of it. I also had a margarita which was very tasty as well. So the drinks were definitely on point. As far as the food, to me it was just a little disappointing for the price point they are at. We did have an appetizer of choosing three cheeses. All three cheeses didn't seem to have a lot of flavor and we're very similar to each other as well so pretty disappointing there. I had ordered the scallops and wagyu meatballs as well as a rare 8 oz filet. All of the food was cooked very well to my liking, however all three dishes lacked flavor and I had to add salt and pepper to all of them which was a little disappointing again considering the price point of all of them. The steak alone was 60 dollars and was just not seasoned at all. Even the sauces that food was laying on just didn't have flavor and tasted very bland. I will say every tapas dish did a good job of incorporating different textures which was really nice, just wish they had some flavor as well. The service was very well. Our waitress was extremely nice and was on top of everything. They brought us everything in a timely manner which was actually faster than we had thought. The food also came out very hot and seem to taste very fresh as well which was really nice to see. I do think the atmosphere was a little off as all the tables were very tight and very close to each other, just made it hard to get out sometimes to go to the bathroom or anything like that cuz you had to move the entire table and once they started filling up it got pretty loud and you just felt really close to the table next to you especially if they were talking loud or anything like that. Overall we did enjoy our experience, we were just a disappointed with the food or the lack of flavor on the food. I would definitely go back for drinks as they were unique and the bar had some really cool features and choices of drink there.
Definitely enjoyed the food! The service however, was not so hot. Friendly people, but they were sure slow. Tapas are always a good idea because you get to try a variety of food. I think we pretty much had most of the menu. We thought the Brussels sprouts, aged steak and paella were the stand out items. Please pass on the churros, I wish someone would have warned me. I can’t wait to go again and try the rest!
Sat in the patio for dinner. It was cold in October, in spite of the heat lamps they turned on for us. Bring a jacket! We tried various tapas and their seafood paella. Everything was tasty. I'm not familiar with Spanish cuisine so I'm no expert but we were happy with the food. 3 tapas and the paella was too much for 2 people. Service was very attentive. Birthday girl got a complimentary small almond cake and a scoop of strawberry ice cream.
I loved their service. Our waitress came from time to time checking if everyone was happy. My water glass was always refilled in time (and yes, I drank a lot). Food... We ordered erizos con huevos (sea urchin scramble eggs), carpaccio de carne (beef carpaccio), hueso al norno (bone marrow), calamares (calamari steak), and also paella de mariscos (seafood paella). They were delicious in general and nicely presented. We loved the beef carpaccio (especially for the well balanced truffle-yuzu aioli) and bone marrow the most. Flavor of sea urchin was somehow lost (it was more egg-forward) and we thought it a bit too salty for us. Calamari was great, really crispy and lightly breaded. However, it was a bit pricey for such a some portion (around 6-8 pieces). Seafood paella was good, but there was too much green onions masking other more subtle flavors. We enjoyed dining there and will be back to try other dishes.
Beautiful restaurant, definitely enjoy the eye candies when you walk through the restaurant, from the lighting to the awesome display of their dry aged meat case..... Services is attentive and very friendly. Food, tapas got all the Spanish essential and were very good. You cannot get more Spanish than their Paella Valencia, perfectly balance favor and well prepared.
Ordered the filet mignon, broccolini, and chicken croquetas with a glass of wine. Food was just average, nothing spectacular. All of this was $117 which I think was way expensive for what it was. The filet was very good but the rest was just basic. The service was ok, nothing too crazy. I had really high expectations and it was just average. I had a hard time trying to find the entrance since I was coming from the theatre went around the patio.
We had Rabo de toro 10000⭐️. Flavor is rich and complex from the wine reduction. Meat (oxtail) is fork tender!! Highly recommend getting this one. Chicken croquettes 3 ⭐️. Burnt. Not as good as other places' croquettes. Too much pollo, too little bechamel (the bechamel wasn't creamy either) Pulpo 3⭐️. Also not as good as how other spanish restaurants make it. Theirs aren't grilled. Bikini sandwiches 5 ⭐️👍 Paella valenciana 3/5⭐️ Cocktails 5/5 ⭐️ Would go back to try their other stuff.
I wanted to love this place and had high expectations based on the reviews. We came for a date night and I found the restaurant underwhelming in terms of food and vibes. Service was great, but for a place that takes such pride in its meat the steak was a bit underwhelming especially for the price. The tapas we tried were also just lacking a bit in texture and flavor.
We had a 6:30 PM patio reservation and were seated promptly. However, while waiting inside, there was an overwhelming smell of meat, which wasn’t pleasant—better ventilation would definitely help. Service was good, and we ordered two drinks, two steaks, Brussels sprouts, spicy potatoes, and crispy fried artichokes. The steaks took quite a while to arrive, and despite requesting medium well, mine ended up a bit dry. The Brussels sprouts were the best side dish, and the spicy potatoes were tasty too, but the artichokes were overly greasy. The steak quality wasn’t the best I’ve had. The outdoor seating area was well-heated, but the metal chairs were uncomfortable with no cushions. By the end of the meal, my lower back and tailbone were sore—I highly recommend switching to more comfortable seating.
The food is amazing. Best Tapas ever. Better than Spain. Slice ham and lamb and the cheeses were without comparison. I don’t know any restaurant that offers such quality. The steaks were great. Had skirt steak, prime rib and ny strip. All were cooked perfectly. The sauces that came with were nice compliments. The fridge showing off the dry aging and being able to pick which you want was a nice presentation as well. The capuccino I had was also somehow really good. To spend close to $1000 and get lackluster service, worse than you’d get at a Dennys, is inexcusable. My party is not high maintenance by any means. My complaint is the lack of attention we received. Only once did someone come to refill our waters, no one came to ask if we wanted more drinks the entire 2.5 hours we were seated. Only once dessert was brought out did the waiter bother to ask if we wanted another bottle of water. My biggest gripe is the lame optional “3% surcharge because the cost of business has gone up” they put on the bill. Just raise your prices instead of playing games.
I came here for my mom and niece birthday. The food was ok. Alot of the seafood we ordered had a little fishy taste. So you are sensitive to fishy seafood I wouldn't recommend ordering anything with seafood. But the dry aged steak was delicious Cooked to perfection. Tons of flavor. Patio seating is nice. Get a view of the hotels and landscape. Parking is either structure which they validate or valet.
TL;DR terrible (weird / intentionally unhelpful) service, but good food and drinks. Would not return. Came here last night for a girls night, just me and my friend. Was looking for a place with good food, drinks, and vibe. There were no tables available, so we sat at the bar. The bartender/server was intentionally unhelpful. We each wanted to order one of their specialty gin and tonics from, but usually these are pretty sweet because places overdo the tonic, so we typically ask for half soda half tonic. The bartender rep replies “we don’t modified drinks” with no further explanation. Bars that don’t modify drinks exist but are unusual. So my girlfriend asks if it’s premade, to which the bartender replies no, again with no further explanation. We all look at each other awkwardly. Then she proceeds to tell the bartender why we ask for a half soda (because usually these drinks are very sweet), to which the bartender replies “they’re not sweet to me”, again with no further explanation. interactions like this go on for the whole night. I considered just getting up and leaving because the service was so subpar and intentionally unhelpful. The food was actually good—expensive but good. We got the octopus and bone marrow. The host was very sweet, but unfortunately, you only get to interact with her for a minute. They provide validation for the parking structure.
Bad service and really weird food, we have waiting for those steak and rice for nearly an hour, but the rice is overcooked which taste really sour and weird. The steak is okay but not good as its price. We are coming to celebrate the graduation, but the server is really rude which directly drop the plate on our table, really bad experience.
As much as I was REALLY looking forward to this, it left little to be desired. I’m from Spain so I went in knowing it wasn’t going to be as good as one of my grandma’s home cooked meals but from that to what I had was far from impressive. We ordered- croquetas de pollo, gambas al ajillo, pan con tomate, papas bravas, and jamon Serrano. The croquetas were ok. They weren’t super flavorful but were breaded and fried well. I was surprised they weren’t served with a sauce of some kind because in Spain we always eat them with mayo or something to dip them in. I had them with alioli since they didn’t have mayo and that made them a little better. The gambas al ajillo didn’t have a very strong garlic flavor the way they should. They were good but didn’t bring any flavors of Spain to my mouth. The pan con tomate was the furthest thing from typical Spanish flavors out of everything we ordered. It’s such a simple dish I’m not sure why they’d change it. Typically it’s bread with a clove of garlic rubbed on it, a drizzle of olive oil, topped with freshly grated tomato (yes like on a cheese grater to slice it and make it frothy), and a pinch of salt. Here they bathe the bread in garlic-infused oil, bake it to a crisp, top it with a tomato paste-like pure and add a pinch of rock salt. The flavor was unpalatable. One of my favorite simple dishes and the first time I didn’t like it. The sauce of the papas bravas was on point! I’ve never had papas bravas with alioli but the flavors worked very well together. The potatoes however were tiny grease bombs. The potatoes are supposed to be large cubes so when they’re fried they’re crispy on the outside but soft and moist on the inside. These were very small, fried too heavily and so greasy I couldn’t have more than a few forks because I knew I’d regret it later. There wasn’t much that could go wrong with jamon Serrano. It was good and served on a pig shaped board with crackers, pickles and some sort of cauliflower mix. My mom also mentioned how odd it was that they didn’t have bread available because in Spain, pan is a huge part of any meal. It was nice to try some place new. But it’s not someplace I’d go back to unless I were having just cocktails. It has a great ambiance and vibe inside. The best thing on the table was my mock-tail. They have 2 house specialty mock-tails and I had the ginger infused one (Sanskrit). Although it was 1/2 a glass of shaved ice, what was in there was very tasty. Overall friendly staff, cute outdoor patio seating with heat lamps, and nice atmosphere gets it a 2*.
Decent food - we got paella de carne and it burnt At the bottom . The appetizer such as pulpo ala gallega / patatas bravas / espartagos verde are tasty and flavorful Not so good service, why? We reserved a table and came on time but still have to wait for our table ( they have 2 empty tables at the time) what’s the point of reservation when we have to wait in line still? Even the tables were ready but we didn’t get any notifications, until we came in and asked the hostess , then we got seated. They were just either completely ignored our presence or forgot about us standing there waiting for our table
Only thing worse than overpriced food is if it tastes bad as well. The fried rice was undercooked with clumpy and hard rice. The octopus had no texture, and half of the portion was boiled potatoes. Very disappointing experience.
Very underwhelming experience. The steak was average, not great quality meat with no real flavor, and the side dishes were basic and uninspired. The staff was unfriendly and unwelcoming, which made the atmosphere uncomfortable. Overall, not worth a return.
Was very excited for these tapas but unfortunately a majority of them were just not what we expected, especially for the price they are charging. They often seemed incomplete and unbalanced. For example, the uni scrambled egg had the smallest piece of uni and some cheap salmon roe with just decent tasting scrambled eggs underneath, not worth the price at all. Some dishes like the lamb meatballs and bikini sandwhich were great but too many misses to make up for the few hits.
Really disappointed with the 50+ day aged prime rib steak. Medium rare as recommended by chef, the steak was tough to eat. Two sauces were provided but they were not great and didn't help much to improve the flavorless steak. Salt and pepper would have been fine but wouldn't be able to make it less tough to eat. My co worker and i felt let down with our dinner overall. The two side dishes, pork belly and bone marrow, were not good enough to compensate our disappointment with the $80 piece of steak.
The service was good- waiter was nice and recommended good drinks. The atmosphere was very meh. Most importantly, the food was super underwhelming and leaning towards bad. We had: Oxtail- the meat was tender but the sauce was a strange sticky, teriyaki looking sauce that was much too heavy. It was also a crazy price for the tiny portion ($28). Patatas Bravas: the sauce was good- that is all. Paella de carne: the rice was WAY too wet for this to be a proper paella. Again, everything felt sticky, heavy, and lacked flavor. I do not expect authentic Spanish food, as it is almost impossible to find in CA but even if you pretend like this restaurant is it's own spin on Spanish food- it's not good. I've had better food at a swap meet.
It was my second time to eat here. We ordered some appetizers and seafood paella. For appetizers,I was disappointed about chicken cream deep fried things and Uni miso toast. The chicken thing was just dry minced meet inside and I didn't feel any cream. I wonder if it was a mistake. I tried to ask my server but he was not friendly and give me cold attitude. I asked " is it that we ordered chicken cream? " And he just said " yes". I couldn't even feel comfortable to ask what I wanted ask. I wish he asked me kindly like, "Is there anything wrong with your food? " Or something like that. But I felt by his attitude that he didn't want get any questions from me . About Uni toast things, it looked fancy but no flavor. Just normal scrumble egg and uni. Also the server said they didn't have the big shrimp so they will change. My next seat customer got the same seafood paella with big shrimp. But our was very small. But the paella's price was same as usual even it came with small shrimp. I didn't have energy to complain so I didn't mention. I've just decided not to come back this restaurant anymore.
Very disappointing experience. The food was overpriced and mediocre in quality, with portions that were extremely small for the price. I just came back from Spain where I had authentic Jamón Ibérico, and what they served here was a poor imitation - very mediocre and shockingly expensive for what it was. The service was slow and unhelpful, and the atmosphere didn’t make up for the overall lack of value. For what they charge, I expect much better. Not even close to a real Spanish restaurant. Definitely NOT recommended.
I enjoyed their dried aged beef, it was a real highlight. However, the service left much to be desired. We were seated at the bar, and our water was never refilled, all while dealing with a long wait. Additionally, an automatic fee (marketed as an optional service or support charge) was added to the check on top of the tip.
The food was genuinely disappointing. All the appetizers and paellas arrived hot on the outside, but were cold inside. It was difficult to tell whether the seafood was thoroughly cooked or not—maybe we were unintentionally eating sushi? The Brussels sprouts tasted okay, but were much too salty. Overall, I wouldn’t recommend dining here unless you’re comfortable eating food that is only “half well done.”
We've dined at Vaca several times, but this was our first visit with our one-year-old. We were very disappointed to find they do not have any high chairs. The waiter confirmed it's "company policy." Managing a toddler without a high chair in a restaurant was incredibly difficult and made for a terrible experience. For a restaurant at this level, it's shocking that they don't accommodate young families. Other restaurants at same price range offers and even In-N-Out has high chairs! The food is okay, but the policy makes it clear they are not welcoming to parents with small children. We won't be back.
