UPDATE! Our second visit. Invited friends and they loved it just as much. Have to go back for a third time and try the other menu items. Two orders at the same table, and Kayla (sp) took care of our 7 person party, flawlessly. She did not hover over us, nor was she absent. The food is phenomenal! The plates, the presentation and the timing were excellent. From twelve years of age to sixty years old, we all found something delicious to eat (and bring home!). Dining area is beautiful and light inside. Aromas are subtle and pleasant. We were seated in-between lunch and supper, so we were the only diners there for the most part. A little uncomfortable for us, but that is not on TAVI. First time we were there, there was the chatter from other diners, employees with various plates and delicious smells passing by our table. The oven was in constant use. We had; Mezze for five, which consists of Baba Ghanoush, Ikra, Moussaka, Smoked Labneh, and Heirloom Tomatoes (orange), Sujuk, Fattoush (with shrimp), Israeli salad, Falafel, Shakshuka, Lamb burger (beautiful just to look at) Both of our visits have been on a Sunday. It was easy and safe to park. Casual dress. There are very few restaurants that I want to visit more than a time or two. Tavi is a little less than an hour away, yet we have no second thoughts about returning. Bravo! ~~~~ FIRST VISIT. Exceeded our expectations. Delicious food. We filled up on the mezze and the calamari. Had little room for entrees. Ordered the Kvaroy Salmon, and a lamb dish arayes. Great service from Kaylin.
Wow! Tavi did NOT disappoint. The food was tremendous and our server Michael was awesome. When folks start filling the restaurant it gets loud, and I’d imagine for some people it might be a lot…but that’s something I liked about it — feeling part of a vibrant space with delicious food! Check it out! Try everything! I was so busy enjoying I didn’t take pics of everything we tried!
First time visiting TAVI Restaurant. Nice and cozy and great for the whole family atmosphere. The food was great with a fresh made taste. Service was on point. Será was very knowledgeable of the menu and what she suggested; It was where I put my eyes on. Fry Chicken on hummus was fantastic with southern tasty flavor 😋. I'll recommend it, and I'm coming back for sure to taste the other part of the menu that it looks very inviting 😋
Phenomenal meal from start to finish! Our server, Michael was fantastic! We went early, which was good because it’s a very small place and I think it would get very loud the more crowded it was. We started with the fried chicken hummus and crawfish flatbread and also got the filet special as an entree. Everything was delicious! Highly recommend!
Everything about our dining experience here was phenomenal. Mark provided the best service we’ve had in a very long time. He was fun and friendly and definitely made our dining experience one to remember. The food is top tier. Every fish we had was cooked to perfection, if you love an authentic Mediterranean meal this is the place for you.
Had a wonderful experience at our two trips to Tavi. We were happily served by Miss Tessa, who I think is the best and most knowledgeable server we have ever had. Honestly the best service. The food was delicious and due to Tessa’s help I was able to jump out of my comfort zone and try amazing food. Will definitely be coming back.
This is my newly found favorite place. Oh my goodness!!!! It was so delicious it almost brought me to tears. The flavors were so incredible. I had the chicken mezze bowl, the Israeli salad, Muhammad’s, and the most amazing Baba Ganoush I have ever had. I also ordered a cocktail, Savana it was soooo good. I am so glad I found this place. Kayla was our server and was equally amazing. You have to try it all!!!! Bring a friend and split everything!
It was a great dining experience. The food was amazing. Definitely will go back!! The service was outstanding. the waitress check on us several times ! She had great recommendations.
My absolute favorite restaurant on the North Shore. This Restaurant not only has incredible food, but also a staff that goes above and beyond to ensure that patrons get the best experience. My wife and I have been here a few times and will continue to go back.
My family and I really enjoyed eating here. The food and staff were great. And we will be back.
It was a great restaurant. Food was really good, the chicken hummus was my favorite. Johnnie made the best old fashioned i’ve ever had. Will definitely be back.
The food was very good and so was the service
Our favorite restaurant on the northshore. Consistently excellent service, atmosphere and the best food!!
I can’t say enough good about this restaurant. The food is phenomenal, you can tell a talented chef is running the kitchen. The food is professionally prepared, fresh, and bursting with flavor.
Had dinner here on the their first night open and this place was running like a well oiled machine. You would have never known that it was their first night open. Everything tasted just like Shaya’s. This is a great addition to the northshore. .
Went for a wine pairing dinner, and it was exquisite. Most pairings we've been to the food portions are very small. That was not the case here, and the food was phenomenal. Can't wait to try the regular menu.
A gem for Covington! We'll definitely be returning. The fried chicken hummus is fabulous, the caramelized onions and interesting blend of spices added the perfect amount sweetness. I had the lamb shank, super tender, falling off the bone, on a bed of saffron rice, really enjoyed that! My wife had a nice salmon, finished perfectly with a crispy glaze and couscous with corn, of course i had to have a couple of bites of that! My daughter had the shrimp kebab, with a couscous quite different than my wife's, but very good. The place has a cool vibe, it's been packed the last couple of weekends so I'd recommend reserving a table, we did luck up and get a table but I wouldn't assume to be able to as word gets out.
Tavi feels like a second home to my husband and I. We are moving and I cried as we left for the last time. The staff is amazing, the food is excellent, the ambiance is warm. Thank you for the memories. Maggie and Tim.
Everything we had was delicious! The staff was so attentive. Everything we had was so fresh and delicious. The sponge cake was such a surprise by how complex it was. It was rich and delicious and enough for three people to share!
Diamond, the hostess, made sure we had a perfect table for our party of 3. One of our group is in a wheelchair. She was so welcoming and helpful. Our waitress, Rebecca, was also very helpful and attentive and made our visit a lovely experience. The food was delicious. We ordered a variety of dishes and each one was so good especially the flatbreads and hummus. I never rate a restaurant as excellent unless they exceed my expectations. Tavi did just that.
Attended a bridal party small group dinner here, my first visit. I was totally blown away. The atmo is quaint, cozy, inviting.. the staff are professionals and very skilled. The food was completely incredible. I’ve already made several recommendations to friends/family to put Tavi on their radar.. I’ll be back for sure.
Tavi in downtown Covington, La. was my choice for my birthday lunch recently. I've eaten at their other well established restaurant, Shaya on Magazine Street in New Orleans and it was delicious. You will find some of the same staples of Shaya's menu here also. This is Lebanese influenced food at its best. I asked my server if someone's Mama was back there preparing all this amazing food. The flavors were so yummy. Executive Chef Fariz Choumali is knocking it out of the park! Tavi did not disappoint. Service was warm and attentive but not intrusive. The Tahini brussel sprouts were fantastic. We ordered the chicken leg and thigh with rice and a Sujuk flatbread as our main course. The menu has small plates, hummus, sandwiches and roasted meats. In a word, Wow. The entire meal is one I would love to repeat (and we plan to!). The atmosphere is similar to Shaya. Bright, modern and inviting. Make a reservation online if you want to be sure to have a table waiting. Dress is casual. Highly recommend this one!
Tavi is a favorite restaurant of mine especially as someone with Celiac Disease! They are very inclusive whether you are vegan, gf etc and they have a separate fryer! I am a huge fan of the falafel, fried chicken hummus, mushroom hummus and halloumi. If you are celiac, you will feel incredibly safe at Tavi and have the most delicious meal! Also, they are SUPER pet friendly and our little Pekingese sits with us in the dining room every time!
The crispy haloumi with apricot and apple was delicious. The wild mushroom sage butter hummus as well as the cauliflower and caramelized onion hummus were stunners. The falafel was very basic and super dry. The salmon with pearl couscous was very tasty with a nice crispiness to it. The acoustics were terrible and the service did not match the price point average. The waiter didn't give suggestions, he re-used my cocktail glass which had the same squeezed lime wedge. When asked for a fresh lime, he brought me an empty glass with a day old maraschino stained lime wedge stuck to it. Grabbing glasses by the rim, not doing quality checks, etc. was detracting. The fresh bread from the brick oven was nice and hot! The elevated Palestinian take is interesting and something Covington desperately needs. Something different and new and quality! They're off to a great start and I can't wait to go back for dessert next time! Was nice to see a it open on a Sunday night on an otherwise darkened street.
Beautiful restaurant with amazing food, and an even better staff. Our server was great, and did a wonderful job with out table. Steven the GM was very kind, and we had a great conversation with him. The food was top notch. This place is a must if you are in the area.
I usually don’t take the time to write reviews but I had to do it this time. The lamb shank was extraordinary! Definitely my new favorite meal. We were celebrating our anniversary and the service team made it extra special. Can’t wait to go back!
Without a doubt one of the best meals I’ve had in quite a while. We were thoroughly impressed; I kept wondering when we might reach a peak (spoiler: it was the chicken leg & thigh— the mezze, friend chicken hummus, koftas, and halloumi beforehand were just that good)! Polished it off with the fantastic date cinnamon babka. I’m already dreaming of when I’ll be back! Michael and the back staff were extremely attentive and everything went smoothly. A very comfortable experience.
Delicious food in a light and airy atmosphere. Three of us shared two appetizers (the meza and the mushroom hummus) and three small plates (lamb kabob, Israel salad, and ?) And two desserts (babka and mousse). Everything tasted like it was made with love and was spiced perfectly. I had the delicious sazarac, and my friend loved her spritz.
Dinner tonight at the bar was fantastic! Johnny was very attentive and anticipated our every need. Great atmosphere! mushroom hummus was delightful as was the lamb kabob! my wife and I will be back.
Food was amazing (truly delicious) but the lavender lemon martini was UNFORGETTABLE! I normally don’t write reviews but I’ve never been more blown away by a beverage!
Shared all the small plates plus mushroom hummus (honestly the best dish). We’ve been to Shaya before so we expected and got similar experience. Only thing I’d critique on was the falafel which seemed a little dry and bland. Everything else was excellent.
Come for the lamb. Stay for the fried chicken hummus! I was visiting from out of town and a friend recommended this place and it was amazing!
Loved the food! Unique flavors and variety. I will absolutely go again!
Incredible food! We ordered half of the menu and loved everything! Prices were very reasonable. I'm looking forward to my next trip back already. Don't skip the lamb ragu!
Gave this place a second shot, and it didn’t disappoint the second time around. We ordered a bunch of plates to share. All were very good. The shrimp dumplings, halloumi, bbq shrimp, Brussels, and crispy skin chicken were all enjoyed. The cook on the chicken was absolutely perfect. I liked the harissa flavorings on the dumplings as well. Our waitress was attentive and knowledgeable about the menu.
I've been a couple of times, and the care and effort are clear in every dish. You could make a meal off the starters easily, and there are tons of vegetarian friendly options, which my girlfriend appreciated. Will be back!
We came here for an art show and found delicious Mediterranean food in a nice atmosphere. Bradley was an outstanding server.
Delicious. Get all the hummus. And lab burger was incredible. Excellent food, good cocktails.
It was our first time dining at this restaurant and definitely not our last! EVERYTHING from the white, airy, tranquil aesthetics, to the impeccable and delicious cuisine and the friendly hospitality and service set the tone for my fiancé and I after a long day. Mr. Mark, our server, put the icing on our cake with his friendly service and amiable conversation. And the food - the flavors, seasonings, and presentation left me wanting so much more if I had a bigger tummy! Can’t wait to patronize this wonderful establishment again AND try the new French bistro being built adjacent to Tavi!
Had the wondeful fried chicken hummus and lamb kabob skewers. Very good!
Went here with a table of 6 and had a lovely time. A perfect blend of quality food, stylish decor (look at that outdoor patio!!), and relaxed yet attentive service. We ordered a few things from each section of the menu and shared among ourselves. The pita was fresh and perfect, hummus tasty, entrees a decent portion for multiple mouths. The cocktails were fun and balanced. Everything was played stylishly and looked and tasted great. I highly recommend coming here and ordering as much as you want--you cannot go wrong!
One of our favorite restaurants in downtown Covington. Food is excellent, prices are reasonable, service and atmosphere are always great.
We ate family style. Our server was wonderful explaining the dishes. I was in Europe in September. It authentically reminded me of there. The kefta was the best I ever tasted. The cauliflower hummus was exceptional. I'll be back.
Went back to try for a second time after the atmosphere was terrible but food was great. The first time we went, it was so loud you couldn't have a conversation with the person sitting next to you. They must have consulted with a engineer or someone who knows what their doing, because what used to be a loud obnoxious dining experience has turned into a very nice place to be! Great job Tavi!. Food is top notch, you seriously wont pick something bad on the menu. Would like to try one of their experience night with the set menu one time!
We just had an excellent dinner here for our anniversary! Not only was the food amazing, but the service was great as well. Despite being busy on a Saturday they still found a way to squeeze us in and took care of us straightaway.
Fresh pita bread, olive oil and hummus. Refreshing mocktails, friendly service. Wonderful entrees. What's not to adore?
OMG! What a gem! The food is awesome and the portions are generous. The lady at the entrance could smile a little though :-). We had the meze platter (4 or 5 for $25) and frankly that along with the freshly naked pita bread and seasoned olive oil would have been enough. I had the wagyu brisket sandwich and it was great. This was a phenomenal lunch. Please try the restaurant, take your time and savour this fantastic food. You won't be disappointed.
The food, service and happy hour deals are top notch and the cocktails are perfectly balanced. Hummus and cocktails are half-off from 12-5 if I remember correctly. I will definitely be back. My one suggestion is to open up outdoor seating because, as many people have noted in previous reviews, indoors is pretty loud. Also, I just prefer to sit outside on pretty days. Thank you to the staff at Tavi for a wonderful lunch experience.
Such a nice establishment tucked away in downtown Covington. My wife and I stopped in for lunch, and between the appetizer and a couple of shareable, we were stuffed and happy. We had the wild mushroom hummus, the falafel plate and the BBQ shrimp. All were delicious. I told my wife I need that Falafel plate on the regular. The staff was super friendly and so kind. From the front door to the kitchen, great people.
First off, the staff at Tavi were excellent. Our server guided us through the menu, making excellent suggestions. The Fried Chicken Hummus was outstanding, as was every dish we ordered. Israeli Salad, Sujuk Cheese roll, Lamb Kofta Kebab, Roasted Brussels Sprouts. Fresh made Pita with Smoked Labneh and Fava Beans. Chef Patrick and his staff executed well. If you're in Covington, do not miss the opportunity to dine with the incredible people of Tavi, you will not be disappointed.
Tavi is definitely a unique culinary experience. The menu itself is eclectic: it is difficult to tell the ethnic origin of any particular dish other than it is middle-eastern. The spices and garnishments were uncommon, but not so uncommon to be too exotic for a normal palette. All of the dishes came out quick and were well prepared. Our server recommended the fried chicken hummus as it was their best selling dish. Without a doubt, it was a good recommendation. The only negative comment that I have, and this is a negative comment about most restaurants today, is that iced tea was off. It wasn't a flavored ice tea. It just wasn't the traditional southern iced tea. On the other hand, the Moroccan hot mint tea was a worthy replacement. I couldn't help but notice that this place only had a 4.3 rating on Google. After taking the time to read the negative reviews, one can only conclude that the reviews say more about the person leaving the review than the restaurant. The one-star reviews were about minor and petty issues thus suggesting overly demanding and entitled reviewers. No one should want customers like that.
Due to special dietary vegan needs, chef Louis was super amazing he catered to our needs and provided us a wonderful experience. He personalized and checked on the whole group to ensure everyone was happy. Thank you Chef Louis!
My first time will most certainly not be my last time coming here! Everything was a 10/10. And believe the hype around the fried chicken hummus. I just left about 2 hours ago and I already can’t stop thinking about it!
Very good food and excellent service. The Mezze appetizer components were all excellent. A great way to start a meal and experience a wide array Israeli sides. I had the Israeli Salad and added grilled chicken. The salad was good, but I thought that the ratio of cucumbers to tomatoes was off. It was nearly entirely cucumbers. However, everything was very fresh and well plated. The chicken was hot and delicious. The interior was bright, clean, and pleasant. Definitely recommended.
Thank you to the wonderful lady who is the manager. The boss lady. Thank you very much. You saved the experience. The waitress with the sparkling eye shadow was our server. We did not get her name. The kabobs were delicious. The Brussels sprouts is a story. The eggplant with tomatoes and eggs is a story. 3 of us went to dine. Not busy at the arrival time. We arrived. Greeted by a waitress with eye shadow that sparkled. She kept rushing our table yo see if we were ready. Back up. This is all new to us. We gave to read the menu. Like a l8st person getting thru a Rand McNally map. 2 items came out. A runner did it. The 25 minutes later, we were missing one persobs food . HELLO! I got up. I met the great boss lady. Thank you. Our waitress forgot us. Two of us had items returned while we had to wait for the forgotten item. The waitress never at aby time cane to see us. Console us. Nothing. Later. Way later, all items returned. All tasty. The first batch of roasted sprouts would have bern great. The second try was not roasted. It all tasted good. The manager would not allow us yo pay. We insisted. Strongly. We were treated yo our beverages and meal. We thank you. The chef and manager myst get to the bottom of this poor service. Thank you for the comp.
Second day open. Everything went smoothly, and I was impressed with their efficiency despite how crowded it was. They had a full house at lunch, but they were able to find a table for us. Hubby called his lamb sandwich “very flavorful.” He said the flatbread was excellent and I agree. Hubby said “I’ve never had hummus that I’ve liked more than that,” and I agree. Very fresh, delicious with the mint (we had fried chicken hummus). I had the chicken sandwich, which was great. Kind of an Israeli version of the Popeye’s sandwich. I had the orange blossom gelato which was delicious, it had some sort of strawlike or hairlike (per hubby) material on top, which was a cotton candy-ish sweet topping that melted in your mouth. Hubby said the king cake was good by itself because he’s not a fan of caramel sauce, and he really liked the almond gelato served with it. I tried it, and I loved the caramel sauce and felt the gelato balanced the sweetness. Overall, a great meal and we will be back! Service was great!
Food was delicious. However, restaurant was incredibly loud and the noise took away from the overall experience. Glad they are doing well, but would figure out some noise dampening.
*EDITED: I'll move it up to 4 stars because the Manager called me and apologized then offered several options to make up for our disappointing experience. The food was indeed delicious. If the food wasn't excellent, I would think twice about going back. We were met at the door by a sour faced Hostess. After being seated, we called over the person who appeared to be the manager to mention said sour face and was given the excuse that she wasn't feeling well. He obviously said something to her bc she mean mugged us for the rest of the night. Had to ask the waitress twice to bring more pita. Very selfish with the pita. Two pieces for four people when we ordered the Mezze and two hummus plates is ridiculous. Had to wait quite a while for waitress to notice that my cocktail was done. I booked online and in the comments section I noted that we were there for a birthday celebration. Nothing was done. When I asked the manager if they read the Comment section on reservations he said, "Yes. Why did we miss something?" After explaining that they had, I received a very dismissive, "Sorry" with no desire to make up for it in anyway. Food = Excellent Service = Lacking
The hostess acted like we were inconveniencing her by being there. No smile or welcome. Took a while to get a server. He also acted inconvenienced. The food was mediocre this time. First time we came it was great. Definitely not the same quality.
The restaurant is beautiful, but the 2 top tables are small and too close together. It was an issue when we sat down, when the table behind us got up, when the next table sat down and when we got up. These weren’t big people at any of the tables. The food was excellent, like at Shaya. The cocktails were also very good. Service was only ok.
Best baba ganoush I’ve ever had. Small plates were spectacular, service was good and the variety of dishes was excellent. Fried chicken hummus was unreal! And prices are reasonable particularly for the small plates.
As a big fan of Saba and Shaya, I was thrilled to have Tavi open up here on the North Shore. We started with the wild mushroom hummus and crispy halloumi. The hummus was smooth and very flavorful, and the puffy bread is hot, fresh, and perfectly spongy to soak it up. The halloumi was small but full of interesting and unexpected flavors. The apricot and apple were a nice foil to the salty cheese. The Israeli salad was fresh and bright, nothing complicated. The falafel was a little well done, but I enjoyed it with the cabbage and tahini. We also had the salmon, which was perfectly cooked and buttery. Their cocktail menu is fun and unique. The only reason I took off a star is because it is extremely noisy inside. Like, EXTREMELY noisy. I'm hoping they can do something about that because I am dying to go back and try some desserts.
Live Tavi. But please for all things holy stop serving martinis with dirty Sue olive juice it’s disgusting. A bunch of us locals cant order them anymore there. Use regular olive juice for the dirt please.
The food was delicious, and so were the drinks. We had a small group the ate in the tapas style. Highly recommend to any one in the area.
I really want to give this place 5stars. The service was good, just a tad slow with refills and attention. The food was excellent, except for the falafel, and that's key. The atmosphere was nice, just a tad plain. The biggest negative was letting someone into the restaurant with no shoes on. That's a big issue for me, and I can't give 5stars because of it.
Hubs and I invited a friend of ours to have lunch with us and we chose Tavi as neither of us have eaten here. The decor and atmosphere are great. Hubs ordered Lamb Kabob small plate, our friend ordered the Brussels Sprout small plate and I ordered Shaksuka entree. I got a glass of Spanish Champagne and our friend ordered the Tavi Spritz, we both enjoyed our drinks. My hubs food and friend's food came out, mine did not. About 10-15 minutes passed and my food had not come out. Hubs got up to find out what happened to my food. The GM came to the table and informed us that my meal was put in as a second course and not a main course which caused the delay. Hubs and our friend said they would not eat their food until mine was at the table as it wasn't proper and they felt bad. The GM asked to take their food and serve it with mine and they agreed to do so. The server never came by to explain the situation and/or apologize for the mix-up. All of our food finally came out and it all tasted good. We hope to return one day but hope to get a different server next time.
Tavi has made changes to their menu!!!! We had the Louisiana Shrimp dumplings and they were amazing!!! Their hummus is always outstanding. Our bartender never smiled, was not remotely engaging nor attentive. It felt as though we were an inconvenience. We are huge fans of Tavi, but last nights service was quite disappointing.
Salmon and Israeli couscous the best thing on the menu. Then they stopped serving it. But it still appears on website menu. Why? To quote my son: "How do you have an Israeli restaurant with no Israeli couscous?"
Opened 3 weeks ago. Nice atmosphere. Chicken on the hummus was very good, as well as the fresh pita. Texture on the hummus was weird, pastie like. Maybe it's supposed to be like that and I've just never had it that way. Salmon and couscous was bland and forgettable. Hard to drop 50 bucks on lunch and receive meh. Will try again.
I found the food mediocre and over-priced. The bread was doughy and undercooked and everything we ate had some form of bread in it. The sign of a good waiter is to make suggestions Such as "You might try the such and such as those all have bread". We ordered non alcoholic drinks and they came out of a can for $8. The atmosphere was nice and our waiter very polite and attentive, but I will go to Shaya's in New Orleans. Better food.
My wife and I went on a Friday during lunch. We decided to try Tavi since we have already been to Shaya in New Orleans multiple times to see how it would compare. As far as the food goes, I would say it was great. My complaint was the pita bread. They said they were backed up and didn’t have enough pita. We basically had to wait long periods to have more pita brought to the table. Problem with that is, all of the food we ordered requires pita to eat it. The service was not that great either. For the amount of money it costs to eat here, I was not impressed.
I ordered (for pickup) two “shared plate” items from the menu, two hummus plates. I paid the surcharge of additional money for “extra pita” for both. I was shocked to see that each hummus comes with one pita only and “extra pita” meant just one more pita. I called to make sure I hadn’t had a mistake in my order and I had not. I am beseeching management to rethink this ratio of hummus to pita as it gives the feeling that Tavi is stingy and corporate. I used Tavi for a graduation event (catering) and the generosity at that time 1.5 years ago made me think that they would be a long time favorite. Things have really changed. sadly.
Food and service was great, but when my bill came they charged me more than the menu price for an item (x2). When I brought it to the server’s attention and she escalated it to the manager, she refused to honor the menu price which I find ridiculous and dishonest. This rubbed me the wrong way after an honestly pleasurable experience. Sad it ended this way.
I ordered as a takeout meal two Mezzi bowls. When I returned home I found out that the meal that was supposed to be served in a bowl was packed into a plate. All the individual items were now one glob of food. I would strongly recommend that a take out bowl and not a plate be used for this dish. I also recommend that any old wilted greens not be part of the dish.
Would be better if they stopped pretending like “Israeli” food is something that actually exists instead of it being mostly recipes that they stole from existing cultures.
Service was terrible. Food was cold. Very disappointing from one of our favorite restaurants. Won’t be back.
Few positive: Good Flat bread, good olive oil, nice inside. Negatives: rap/pop sound music and very low so no middle eastern beautiful music, Moussaka was nothing resembling Moussaka, wife and I sat next to a loud big group with a whole restaurant to sit, service very slow…asked for check and server took a large groups order, refilled drinks, went to bar then came back to pick up payment….he was nice though….just not quick or knowledgeable about speed of service. Maybe try again…couldn’t stay.
The chicken/humas was very good. Outside of that I can't recommend anything else. It appears the waitstaff is either not trained at all or very poorly trained. Wish it I could recommend as we enjoyed Shaya, but it seemed like a lack of care and effort was the major issue.
A disappointment. I ate here almost a year ago and I remember it being some of the best Middle Eastern food that I've ever had. Especially the hummus. Tonight's dinner did not compare at all. The service was fine but the food was both under flavored and under salted. The mushroom hummus was a particular disappointment. The mezze were "ok". The pita bread was fantastic as before but it seemed that they were constantly running low on it. The bathrooms were a disgusting mess. That's inexcusable considering the price point of the restaurant. Probably will not return. Maybe for lunch, but I'm not sure. Currently do not recommend.
So dissapointed and it is soooo loud I can't even think right. My meal was swimming in oil so I will strike this one off my list. I do have to say they did accommodate me when I did not want some on the meal that came with it. I hope this restaurant gets better with time. We will see
Why are the lights so bright!!! I even asked them to make a better ambiance. It fell on deaf ears. The bald manager did nothing after he was asked... lights high equals no ambiance
The waittress seemed apologetic about the food when we first sat down. After we tasted it, we understood. The babaganoosh tasted like burnt straw, the skirt steak was covered in a rancid sauce and the crispy chicken wasn't crispy. A terrible waste of money. Overpriced and barely edible.
I got there at 7:45 on a Sunday - Mother's day - when their posted hours were till 9p. When i walked in, a waitperson saw me and said "can i help you?", which took me aback - that's how you greet someone who clearly doesn't belong in a space (like if some obviously homeless person had stumbled in; i may be many things, but clearly homeless is not one of them). Ok, that's weird. When I told him I was there to eat, he said "I'll get someone to help you." Honestly, That was so off-putting that I almost left at that point - and I should have. A minute later, someone resembling the mgr or owner came from the back and told me without preamble that it was mother's day, that they had been rushed at lunch, and that they had decided to close at 7;30. He said he was "out of food and out of patience", he wished me a good night, and immediately disappeared back into the kitchen. Well, ok. I've been told. I have no idea how the food was, and now I have no interest in ever finding out, cuz I won't come back.
Tonight was my second time coming to Tavi. The first time was back in August, the food was delicious. I got the shrimp dumplings and the salmon. The service was very slow, but I didn’t bother saying anything because they were quite busy. After waiting an unnecessary amount of time for our waitress to take our entree orders, she made an unusual comment saying “I was expecting you to just order appetizers.” We only ordered a plate of hummus and shrimp dumplings, which made me think that she might have said that because we were younger. I found it very unprofessional, especially considering the fact that it was an “upscale” restaurant, and our total came out to $150… I let it go because of how amazing the food was. Tonight I came with my friends, after recommending it because of how great my food was previously. The service was extremely slow, our waitress Kayla (who I’m almost positive was my waitress the last time) had zero personality and didn’t pay us much attention. We received two pieces of pita for a table of four, and waited 15 minutes for more. I ordered the same thing I did the last time. It lacked flavor, was lukewarm, and did not come with sauce like it did the last time. I asked Kayla if they had changed the salmon, and she told me no. I explained to her that the last time I came the entire dish was in a sauce (which I have a picture of), and that this one lacked the same flavor. All she said was “I’m sorry about that,” and walked away. I wasn’t expecting a refund, but I was expecting for at least some more courtesy considering I am a returning customer and was dissatisfied with my food. I’ve never had service this bad at any restaurant, especially one with a pricey menu. Good service is a necessity when it comes to a restaurant like this, and Kayla did not display that in any way.
