The steak was tender and juicy. The potato was big and they offered all the sour cream and cheese you could ask for. However, I felt like the steak could have been seasoned better, if any at all. I would and will go back....oh yeah, i forgot to mention it's B.Y.O.B!

This is a bare bone no frill steakhouse. The steak was cooked well.... could use just a little seasoning. The sweet potato was really good. And the price is really good.

Great spot if you're looking for a "simple" steak, potatoes, and salad. I walked in 20 minutes till closing, and my food was fresh like they had just opened. The cook all the way down to the cashier was helpful, friendly, and just wonderful all around. I love to see smiles on faces that are preparing my food! My steak wasn't seasoned to my liking, but nothing a little salt and pepper couldn't fix. I did notice that they advertise steak/wedge fries, but I received crinkle cut. Still good.

After seeing this written up recently in the Dallas Observer as all time old school favorites we had to go!!! As a first timer, it's a little confusing when you enter. This is a buffet and the menu is here there & everywhere so you don't really know where to look. You get a greeting but no direction or help with this process. You grab a tray, utensils and place your order. They tell you to go fix your salad but we had no clue where the salad was as only "fixins" were on the buffet line! Come to find out, the salads were in a small reach in fridge behind us that we did not see. Strange. Also strange was that they charge a dollar for a boiled egg for said salad. You pay at the end where they give you your drink. There is another reach in fridge with desserts but it too is located behind you and we might have picked one up but we didn't notice it until we had already paid. Your meal comes standard with a baked potato and buttered toast. You can order other sides but we went with the flow. Husband got a NY Strip which was rather thin but he said cooked perfectly. I had the shrimp/catfish combo which was 4 fried shrimp and 1 piece of catfish served with tarter sauce and some red condiment that I did not eat so I'm not sure if it was cocktail sauce or ketchup. Our potatoes came with butter only. You take your tray and seat yourself wherever you can sit. As a restaurant person, I notice things others might not such as nobody asked if we needed anything the entire time we ate. There is not such thing as table service here. No drink refills or anything like that. We both said the place reminded us of our childhood (60s or 70s old school). We found it to be nostalgic and interesting and the food was good for what it was.

Decent menu and the food is very good for the price. Steak is cooked to perfection and the potato tastes great. For what you get, the price is excellent. Service is decent. I will be coming back..

This is my honest opinion.. If you were to quantify and price less the rolls and butter...Charco Broiler is better than Texas Road house.. I've passed this place in Dallas for 2 decades and this was my first time coming in.. The decor is old ! It's probably looked the same since it opened with the update of a flat screen TV in the back. You walk up to a cafeteria style counter place your steak order and find a table. I picked the 10oz ribeye comes with baked potato, and salad. The salad was in a fridge already placed inside bowls stacked on lunch trays. You pick up whatever additions you want including dressing at the counter. The steak was delicious. Prime USDA cut of beef. The potato comes out with butter only. You have to let the attendant know what additions you'd like. Sour Cream comes in packets, bacon bits are imitation. They aren't shy about giving condiments. Overall.. I love the place. I highly recommend if you're looking for a no frills old school steakhouse. It seems like the locals love it also. I came just before 5pm on a Sunday and the line was almost out the door when I left.

Pleasant restaurant that's been here for decades. Despite that, I had never been! Was surprised it was so big! We arrived and ordered from the menu. Prices were decent, especially when comparing to prices at other places you can get a steak. I got steak, steamed broccoli, and a salad. The first person we interacted with didn't explain that the steaks came with a salad or baked potato, so the cashier explained to us. The ingredients in the salad bar were fresh and delicious. Can't complain! The steak and broccoli were good, nothing to write home about. Overall, the food was good, not great but good. Enough to fill up on, so I'd come here again.

I got a steak and two sides from here and the food was honestly subpar. The service and atmosphere was lovely and welcoming, but unfortunately will not be retuning due to the flavorless food. Upset I wasted my money.

The wait at the door wasn't bad at all. You get a basic salad with some toppings. No tomatoes was annoying. My hubs got the NY strip and I got the ribeye special. Plus strawberry and German chocolate cake. Our steaks were cooked just as ordered. The baked potatoes were fluffy and hot. My chocolate cake was moist and really good. The strawberry cake was really good too. Overall we will definitely go back. The whole area is so vibrant and fun. Music everywhere. People walking window shopping. I have always love this part of "the cliff" and it just gets better and better. This place has been there since the 60's. As my kids would say "back in the 19s mom!" Lol. Great value for our dinner. We will be back!

I ordered a rare steak and shrimp to go and I was expecting grilled shrimp because that’s what was reflected in the photo. I received a well done, unseasoned steak and fried shrimp. It was absolutely disgusting. The best part was the potato. I was literally standing there while they were still making the order so I’m not sure why they didn’t ask me about the shrimp if they weren’t sure. Very disappointing, I was truly looking forward to this local staple.
